Heya
I really felt compelled to join this group to give support to those of you just starting or struggling.
This past summer I had a goal to gain 12 pounds in about a month and a half. I was terrified. I liked being thin, and was just too lazy to put in the effort to look healthy. But I knew it was necessary for my own well-being. I got a trainer, who I trusted COMPLETELY, and I did it!
I am 5 10 and 120 pounds, yes I could still gain a few, but I am happiest, healthiest, and strongest I have ever been.
It IS scary, but as long as you are active(lifting weights -NOT CARDIO) then you will gain MUSCLE, and look overall healthier.
You will be aboslutly miserable with the amoint of food you have to eat-six times a day or more of big meals and shakes, but it IS worth it, YOU are worth it! GOOD LUCK and have fun stuffing your face with things that are wonderful for your body!!
Hi to everyone. I have always been thin but i think its getting out of hand now. I get sick alot and dont really eat much . Im 23 and am 5'5 i have right around 95 to 100 since i was like 15. I cant gain weight at all. I can never find clothes to fit am very bony and am always sick. Ive decided to try my hardest to gain some weight by keeping track of my calories i think i barely get 1000 a day if that. So i joined this group to get advice from others goin through the same thing. My husband is in the army and away from me so im a bit depressed so that doesnt help my eating. Im also very picky and dont have a big appetite. So im a new army wife and i want to get healthy , feel better, and gain weight most of all.

Im not only looking at my BMI, i also want to feel proud of my body which currently i dont, so yeah thats prety much me.
Name’s MJ ... Hi!
I am 5'7, 130 pounds ... and is desperately in need of 20 more pounds. My weight has finally stabilized. It fluctuated for several years after having my daughter almost 11 years ago … (124-127 pounds). Before I had her, I was about 140 pounds and loving it. Got pregnant ... went down to about 117 pounds after my first trimester (I was really sick) … gave birth at 150 pounds. My weight dropped tremendously after having my daughter, landing me in a size ZERO less than a month later. Before I had my daughter I was a sized 5-6. I’ve been struggling since.
I have a very slender/muscular physic. At a 130 pounds, I’m currently wearing a size 3-4 ... I’m trying to get back into a size 5-6 or 7-8. That is why I’ve decided to make it happen. I know it's going to be hard but I’m very excited. I did all of my research the first week... making sure I do this right. Second week I tried eating more than just once a day (lol). To accomplish that, I incorporated a little exercise to help increase my appetite.
Today is the first day of my true weight gaining process ... here is my plan based on my research...
Daily Caloric Intake 2600 (20 X 130(weight))
· protein - 25%
· carbohydrate - 55%
· fat - 20%
Training (beginner's weight lifting) - Workout Plan - 3 days split (30 minutes)
· Monday - Workout 1 - (Pecs, Delt, Triceps)
· Wednesday - Workout 2 - (Glutes, Quads, Hams, Calves)
· Friday - Workout 3 - (Lats, Traps, Biceps, Forearms)
I am very please to say that today was a great success … I went to the gym, did my exercise and my daily intake was 2621 calories. YEAH!!!!
Hi everyone, i'm Loredana....
I am dreadfully trying to gain some weight...been very slim all my life rarely going over 100 lb...My goal is to really be at a healthy BMI of 18.5, always been short of that # (I’ve gone through the over eating, the fatty eating, the junk food binge, stopped smoking (theory that you gain lots after quitting) no success).... all I need to gain is 10-15 lb.... why is it so hard?
For the last 3 years I’ve been on a mission to becoming healthy.... I eat well and am very active.... This is where Calorie Count came in handy; I like the fact that I can be aware of the calorie intake and make sure that I don't actually burn more than I should or eat more if needed...?!?
Anyway....with all the information i've acumulated over the years and all the suggestions on weight gain i still cannot get myself to reach my goal..... what's next?!?
Hi everybody. My name is Carlos and I'm from Puerto Rico. I've always been skinny all my life since I was about 10 years old. I'm 21 and I weigh 119 lbs. In the summer I joined the gym to start gaining weight, also I started drinking protein shakes and went from 113 to 123 lbs. in 2 months. I lost 5 pounds since august and want to gain 22 pounds or so. I found calorie count searching the web and I hope it works. Right now I'm in college doing my BA in Accounting. Love the beach, the mall, movies and most importantly music.
hey all, my names patrick and im a 19 year old personal trainer from Australia, up until now ive been your stereotypical lanky nerd. Since becoming a pt ive gone from weighing 140lbs to 172lbs on a medicore diet and a hardcore training regime. Now, armed with all the nutritional ammunition i need (with many rounds coming from the calorie count website) i can finially turn that "mediocre" diet into one that will get me 220lbs. I'm currently working on a 14 day 3000 calories a day diet that i will post up on the teen area of the forum under weight management. I will also post up a 16 week training schedule so that you can use whats going through your body and turn it into muscle.

Hi everyone, my name is Jovany and I'm 24. I've always been skinny, but the most I ever weighed was 140 while in Iraq and lost it all. I now weigh 125 and want to weigh 150. I'm 5'7" and want to feel better about myself. Sorry I didn't write much, this all feels funny.....
Hey I'm Patricio Amauri Sheridinho, Im 19 years old and I am fascinated with working out, and nutritition. I like to interact with others to hear about there theories on lifting weights and what different foods do for you, nice to meet ya'll
I just turned 30 and I'm the exact same weight as I was my senior year of high school- 105 lbs. People continue to mistake me for being a teenager. I'm petite and small-framed, but I feel my healthiest at 115-125 lbs. After boot camp in 1999, I weighed 133 lbs., the most I've ever weighed, so I know it's possible! My goal on this site is to learn how to eat healthy, gain healthy weight, and keep it on! I'm wanting to try new foods and new ways to prepare the 'basics'. ![]()
Hi everybody! My name is Wendy...I'm 37 years old...and I want to gain 30 lbs. I've always been a thin person...but due to some illnesses have went from a normal weight of 115-120 to 90! I'm 5'7"...so...pretty scary. It is so hard for me to gain...I try and try...and try. I joined this site a few days back and have been keeping a daily food log in order to ensure that I eat no less than 2,613 calories a day. I'm hoping to look like myself again by class reunion time (June)...and yes...have my breasts back...please![]()
Hi my name is Candis and Im 26 I am 5'3 and weigh 105. My history with weight is I have never had any. I have 3 children and at 9 months with each of them i never weighed more than 125. I was actually 112 with my first one. I eat constiantly I am actually eating right now LOL, but I can never gain a thing but can lose it in a day. I just joined Calorie Count in search for help. A year ago I was at my perfect weight of 120lbs. I want to be there again. I joined this group because it was the only one of 3 groups that actually people in it that wanted to gain weight. I have 3 boys and I am a SAHM. I am married and have been for 5 years. I have 2 dogs and I love to draw. I just pray and hope that someone can help me in my pursuit for a healthy weight.
Hi,
Hmm.. I'm Kat. I'm 24, and from Washington DC. I've never been especially underweight, but I have a hard time gaining weight... I intentionally tried to for the past four months in preparation for jaw surgery and I think I managed to gain three pounds. I joined this group because I just had reconstructive surgery on both jaws and I've dropped about 20 pounds in the last two weeks. I have had massive difficulty recovering my ability to swallow and open my mouth enough to eat correctly, so my diet options are limited at the moment. I'm hoping to find some ideas besides drinking lots of Ensure-Plus.
I joined calorie-count about a year and a half ago while I was living in Germany in order to keep track of my diet because I wasn't sure I was eating enough food with nutritional value.
Something interesting... well, this isn't exactly interesting, but I've never really enjoyed eating because I had so many problems with my jaws & teeth as a kid. I'm hoping that since my teeth are finally (almost!) fixed I can stop picking my meals based on how easy it is to chew them.
Hello:
I am new to this website. I have read alot of the postings and am starting to feel a little bit of encouragement. I am very underweight. I am 29 years old, 5'6 and weight approx 90-95lbs. The heaviest I have ever been is 100lbs. That is partly due to genetics.
In the past year I have lost 10lbs, and I never really realized it until my friends noticed it and thought I was sick. I am tired of being cold all the time, wearing XSmall clothing and wearing size "0" jeans and dress pants. As well as people telling me I do not eat enough, however I do eat.
My New Year's resolution is to gain back that 10lbs plus another 5lbs to start. I have no idea how I am going to do that, but I would like to try. I have printed out some of the recipes posted on the site and will try those forsure, however the problem I have is that I live alone and am not a good cook. I will need some support and I hope by reading everyone's posts I can get my butt into gear and start looking good again. So, please I would love to hear about some more recipes.
Thank you:)
Hello
My name is Chad and I too am in the process of trying to gain weight or at least maintain it. First a little bit about me. I sit in a cube all day so not much activity on that end but I have two dogs one loves to play ball constantly and the other is a big baby.
Like others I too have had health issues starting at age 15 when I weighed 127 lbs (the most ever) then I had an unsuccessful transplant and spent 3 months in the hospital and dropped to 98 lbs. In between my first and second transplant I was able to gain some back to about 110 lbs and now I weigh about 114 lbs and I am possibly waiting on a third transplant. So I am trying to gain some weight incase something happens like it did with the first surgery. That and so I don't looks so sickly as some people have told me. I also don't have genetics on my side because I am only 5'5.
Some of the problems I have run into is that I can work out for two months and gain muscle but then I will get sick (due to medications I am on I have a weaken immune system) and be sick for a week or two and then my muscle mass is back to where I started from in the beginning. Also consuming enough calories is hard for me to do with all the re-routing they have done to me some days I can eat like a horse other days I take a few bites and say forget it. Plus I want to eat healthy food and not just junk.
So any thoughts, suggestions or comments shoot them at me. Or any questions. Oh yeah come the end of February I will also be becoming a dad for the first time so I'll have to work that into my schedule.
Hello everyone, the name's Kim; I'm from Arkansas. I'm 5'11 and weigh around 100lbs. Unfortunately, I have struggled with being underweight my entire life. I didn't even reach the 100lb mark until I turned 18 - this resulted in health issues. I was pregnant in 2007 and reached the 150 mark in my 3rd trimester. After having my son, I lost 30+ lbs within 2 weeks. I was SO upset about this, but there wasn't anything I could do. Since then, I have steadily kept my weight between 100 and 110. I think I reached 115 during my husband's deployment, but it didn't last long.
I've just started the Calorie Count. I'm wondering how I'm going to manage to keep up with my daily intake, but I'm bound and determined to do it. I've been horrible with eating tons of junk food, hoping to gain a lb or 2 - unfortunately, as we all, this hasn't worked at all. I have tried everything - hopefully, this works. I decided to join this group because we all need as much help and support as those trying to lose weight. It's nice to know that I'm not the only person out there dealing with this issue.
I can't wait to meet all of you and get this weight gain going!
I am 21 years old, 5'8" and 115.5 lbs, and live in Seattle. About a year ago I was working in a very toxic office (socially and environmentally) and due to the high level of stress I simply couldn't eat. It made me feel more sick. I dropped from ~125 lbs to 107 lbs at my lowest weigh-in.
Prior to all that, I was a healthy ~125 lb newlywed. My husband watched me go from a healthy weight to frighteningly thin. My weight unfortunately has a significant impact on our relationship. He threatened to leave me at one point because of it.
So I have been trying on my own to gain weight over the past year, but have not been very successful. I'm up to 115.5 lbs now, but my goal is 125-130 lbs. I'm taking an exercise pole class once a week and working out in the gym too, to try and build muscle. I joined CC because I need to know just how many calories I'm consuming (apparently not enough). I have a high metabolism, but I also dislike the sensation of being full, so I usually stop eating before then. I eat a lot of fats (a CBC showed very low lipids), protein, and carbs, not enough fruits/veggies, and very little junk food.
I'm really hoping that I'll be able to get information from this group that can help me gain the weight I need. I am sick of people asking me if I eat enough, commenting on my weight, etc. Even my in-laws who have never seen me in person comment on my body- it's part of why I've never met them! I just want to have my body back... It's been over a year since I've seen it.
Hi,
I have always been skinny (93 pounds and 5 ft 3in.). I am a Ph.D. student in engineering and I sometimes forget/skip eating when I am busy with research. I like eating home-made meals, which are mostly healthy. I cook but not frequently. When I do cook, I cook various meals and freeze in portions for later. I never followed a diet and I do not know if I am capable of doing so. I joined the group to see what other people are doing to gain weight.
Angie
Sup,
My name is Lewis and I am naturally skinny. I am 6ft 4in and 166 lbs and also have a high metabolism and asthma. I have always been skinny/tall and I am not very active. It's not that I'm lazy I just hate wasting time. I think I'm skinny becuase I don't eat the "right" foods or get sick of certain foods and becuase I think I have a high metabolism.
I just joined the site yesterday becuase I want to gain not maintain weight. Like I previously stated I am 166lbs and want to be a helathy 195lbs by Sept...if possible. To gain that weight it states that I need 3500 cal per day. But, I am finding this hard to do. Yeserday I only ate 2,361 cal, 92 fat, 318 carbs and 59 protein.
I have also just started eating smoothies that contain no fat yogurt, french vanilla frozen yogurt, fresh strawberries, bananas, blueberries, pecans, omega-3 vanilla soy milk and omega-3 strawberry/kiwi juice. Is this at all good for me or i this more a weight loss technique?
In conclusion, Im skinny and want to be a healthy weight. I want to eat good/different food and not waste my time. Thanks for your help,
Hey, I'm Manny.
I've always been petite. I was in ballet for 12 years, marching band for 3 years after that, and then a few years of college... I enjoy staying active. Last year I got a little too wrapped up in staying active in school and ended up wearing myself out. I felt sick most of the time, and I was always exhausted. After months of receiving no answers from my doctor as to why I was always tired and wasn't getting better--and after I was misdiagnosed with a heart condition--I finally found a great hospital physician who told me that it's not uncommon to just work yourself into the ground like I had. I'm on the road to recovery now, but during the months I was sick, I went from 105 lbs. down to 89. Very, very scary.
My friends have always told me that I need to gain weight, and I agreed with them. Now, I REALLY need to gain weight.
I just happened to Google "Gaining Weight," and a link to this site popped up. I really hope it helps... it helps just knowing that there are other people in the world who share my dilemma.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
