Hello Everyone!

I'm Elizabeth, 5'3", currently at 92 lbs.  Even though I've been thin all my life, this is the least I've weighed since high school (I'm 51 years old!)  After having major surgery in 2007, I haven't been able to get back the 15-20 lbs I lost during/after the ordeal.  Then, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and gall stones.  This leaves very little that I can eat to gain back the weight! (I can have little to no fat.)

I joined this site and group today as I hope to be able to use the calorie counting as a tool to help me put on weight slowly eating the few foods I can still eat!  I'm actually quite excited about this endeavor - according to the planning tool, I should be able to reach my goal weight by June 1!

I'm very much into healthy eating and would love to discuss these things with other like-minded weight-gaining hopefuls. Laughing

Hi all,

My name is Kevin and I'm glad to have found this group, as everything on this site seems geared towards weight loss.  I'm a 37 yo male, 6'-1" and weigh 155 lbs.  I've been at this weight since high school.  The most I've ever weighed is about 160, but I'm typically around 155.  My goal is 175.  I just started my diet about 10 days ago and so far it's working pretty well.  I'm best at keeping to it during the work week, as it is easy to grab snacks throughout the day.  Weekends are really tought though, as I don't carry food and snacks with me when I'm out and about.  I've found that "snacking" 5-6 times throughout the day is easiest and doesn't make me sick of eating.  I constantly feel full, which is a weird sensation for me.  I'm trying to limit my cardio, but I am a rather active person, and lift 2-3 times a week.  Hopefully this diet will show results.  According to the calculations, I should be eating about 3,200 calories a day and so far (cross the fingers) I've done a pretty decent job of hitting that goal, though I've reverted to using a protein supplement already.  My "ideal" numbers for each of my 6 'meals' a day are approximately:  75g Carbs, 42g Protein, and 9g Fat.

Hello everyone!

My name is Nadya, i'm a 20 year old university student. I'm 5'0 and i weigh 99 lbs (on a good day).

I have always been thin. When i was a competing gymnast, being naturally thin certainly helped, i never had to diet or watch what i was eating because i never did gain any weight!

But now i'm older and i still can't gain weight. I know it's because of my eating habits, I do eat but sometimes i'm too busy and i skip meals and when i do eat it's usually junk food. (bad habits i know but try living in a student hostel).

The reason i have joined this site, is this group! I can't believe i have finally found other people who want to gain weight. Everywhere i looked, online and in real life, it was all about losing weight. Even my friends don't understand how hard it actually is to gain weight :( so thank you positivelinny for starting this group.

I desperately want to gain weight! it's so frustrating stepping on the scale and watching it stuck on 99. Anyway, looking forward to talking with you all and hopefully we'll push that scale together :)

Hello Nadya!

I too am trying to gain weight, and I know exactly how you feel. I was in dance for many many years, and I was also a very active person in school. I received a lot of grief from friends whenever I said I wanted to gain weight... and how I should be glad to be thin. Well, thin doesn't always mean healthy (I know that one first-hand, too). Most people don't realize that gaining weight for some is just as difficult--if not more so--as losing weight is for others.

Just like losing weight, gaining weight takes time, perseverance, and lots of patience. You just need to take it one step at a time... and know that you're not alone!

If you ever need someone to talk to (whether it's about ideas for healthy, weight-gaining food or you just need words of encouragement) feel free to message me! Smile

Good luck and happy gaining!

I'm 41 am 5 ft 3 and weigh between 93 and 95 lbs. I have been very petite/underweight my entire life.

I am also a picky eater, allergic to ALL DAIRY, and don't like a lot of meats, so I need a healthy vegan way to gain weight, HELP! (Tho am not really a vegan, I do like Peanut Butter, eggs once in a while and only cooked certain ways, and bacon sometimes as well as certain fast food burgers).

But I get full after only a few bites of food, and want a vegan diet for gaining weight. I'm soooo tired of people always saying 'Just eat more' blablabla..well DUH don'tcha think I woulda done that if I could!?!

PLEASE email me your replies tho, thanks so much:)

Hi everyone, my name is Herman, my main goal, as many of you, is to gain weight, but not just gain weight, but to do it through the healthy way until I reach the normal weight range.

Why? because I'm underweight and I think a healthy body (as well as a healthy mind) is one of the important things to have a happy life.

How? I went to a nutritionist and she made me a diet according with my weight. I'm also trying to discipline myself to eat the minimum calorie intake during all day and tracking my eating and exercise habits, as well as monitoring my weight on the scale for at least once a week, and I'm trying other things, too.

How much? my goal is to reach 145 pounds. Right now I'm 5' 5" and weigh 106 pounds. I'm 29 years old.

When? I propose myself to gain 2 pounds per week starting from now to 5 months (I accept advice if this time seems too long or too short).

By the way, I'm from Mexico (sorry if my English is bad...oh, and no, I don't wear a big hat, lol). I found this site because I searched for calorie counters on google so I could control my food intake, and I found this site. I realized there are groups for gaining weight goals, which surprised me and made realize I'm not alone in this challenge.

I know we all can gain weight and achieve our singular goals. :)

Thanks positivelinny for creating this space.

hi guys!!!

i'm 15 and have always been slim (5'8 and 133) but after six months of e.d i lost alot of weight and dropped to 84 pounds, ewww i know, but am now roughly 106 pounds Smile and gaining!!! i'm on here to gain my last 25ish pounds to get to a healthy bmi of 20ish

good luck to everyone and feel free to add me... xD

Heyy, I'm Kate, and I'm seventeen years old.  I've been skinny my whole life, but I never really noticed until I started high school and started getting taller, plus when you're younger you just aren't as observant about the way you look.

I'm 5'7 and as of now, I'm about 112 pounds, but when I signed up with calorie count about six months ago, I was a pathetic 102 pounds!  I'm quite proud of my accomplishment, but of course, no one wants to hear about how I'm so darn skinny and I get to eat all day just to be less skinny.  But it sucks being so thin, and it seems like in America, I have no one that can empathise with me because all my friends either have the exact opposite problem, or are about average and would still like to lose ten pounds.

I have a very small frame and a metabolism like a hamster.  My heart beats uber fast, and I think it makes it difficult for me to excercise for long periods of time.  Gaining a significant amount of weight might slow down my heart a bit, and god knows I need it, but that's not the only reason I want to gain weight.

I hope to achieve a weight of about 120-125 pounds before my birthday in July. That would put me just inside the normal bmi range at about 19 bmi.  I'm not sure such a small frame could hold 125 pounds in all fat gain (and still look good), even though that may sound like a pretty small number for my height.  But I'm only 112 pounds NOW and I don't think I look terribly unhealthy.  I still want to be thin, I just want to be less....flimsy!  More imposing! I want some substance. Right now I'm all lanky limbs and lithe muscles, but it is nice that you can actually SEE all the muscles since there's not much fat covering them....ANYWAY. I would like to be 125 pounds, but I want a lot of that to be in muscle. I've gained the weight I have because I've been getting in about 2300 calories a day (thanks to CC!) and doing weights twice a week.

Part of the reason I'm thin, I can attribute to never drinking soda, and skipping on most junk foods.  I have started to eat more junk food since it seems to be the easiest way to get in at least 2300 calories. Before I think I was only getting about 800 >.< I've never enjoyed eating. It's a chore to me.  I'm dropped out of school, and now I'd rather just sit on my behind and use the internet all day, but I now have to make a huge effort to constantly be eating something.  It's sad that with all that effort, I've only been able to gain ten pounds though.  I think I may have a thyroid thing.

I still refuse to keep soda around the house since it's bad for your teeth and everything, but I'm trying to get a mixture of healthy calories and a little junk food in.  I'm a vegetarian, so it's making it difficult to get in all the protein I need, but nuts and dairy products have plenty of calories and protein in them!

I don't think I'd be able to have gained the weight I have if not for calorie count.  You never really notice how little you eat when you're not constantly keeping track of your calorie intake.  I'm very grateful that there's actually a site that caters to those who want to GAIN weight as well as those who wish to lose it.  It took me ages to find something like this that didn't keep telling me 'your starting weight must be higher than your goal weight!'

Thanks CC, and nice to meet all of you!

Hi, i just joined calorie count yesterday and am really excited about all the help and information on here.

I am 6'0" and my weight is 130lbs. I used to be around 150 4 years ago in high school. i have always been really skinny and i am sick of it. I want to gain some serious weight, My goal is to get to 185-190 lbs.

My biggest problem is eating, i don't ever eat very much, and if i try to eat more it just makes me feel sick.

my second biggest problem i know is laziness, it ties in with the first. if it comes down to having to prepare something that takes more than microwaving i will almost allways just opt out and not eat.

I work in a restaurant so at work is about the only time i eat.

Im glad to find this website. i look forward to all the help and support from everyone here and all the tools available for me on my quest to put on pound

hello my name is mike and im a hard gainer. ive been trying to gain weight for about a year now but i just consistently stay around 165. im 6' so thats skinny. Im tired of not fitting in cloths correctly and being called skinny, toothpick, ect. and i would like to gain weight in a healthy way and am here to see if i can get some help. i plan on eating around 3400 calories a day but i dont know where to start or what to eat? any ideas?

Hi Mike,

I know what it's like to be skinny. I was a dancer for 12 years, a marching band member for 3 years, and I was always active in school. It's hard to keep the weight on.

My tip for you... eat foods that are low-volume and high-calorie (but still healthy). One of the BEST foods to eat is peanut butter. Eat PB&J sandwiches, put peanut butter on crackers and celery... just eat a spoonful of it. Other great foods to eat are pasta, legumes (beans), peanuts, protein-packed meats (beef, chicken, and fish). To keep it healthy, cook with olive oil. Instead of stopping for fast food, slice up some potatoes, stick 'em in a ziploc bag with a little olive oil, salt, and spices and bake them (they don't take that long, and they taste amazing).

Good luck with your weight GAINING, and if you need/want any more tips, or just need a few words of encouragement, feel free to message me.

I am 31, 5'8" and currently 128 pounds. I had my fourth baby in Dec, and am (unsuccessfully) trying to keep my baby weight on. After having my last baby I dropped all the way down to 103 lbs. I don't have an eating disorder, but I do have a hard time eating large quantities of food and feeling hungry. I'm nursing my baby and would like to try starting an exercise routine to help with my energy level. I have no idea where to start. How many calories should I be trying to eat, and how do you get yourself to be able to eat them? My best day so far has been 1800 cals and I know that's not enough. Please help!

Hey everybody!

I found some links with great ideas for gaining weight healthily:

I am 24 5'6" 102lbs.  I hate it.  I have been lost about 20lbs within the past year and 1/2.  I initially contributed the weight loss to training for a marathon, but was unable to recover the wait since then, which was last summer.  I need to put on about 20lbs by July 22! HELP!

my name is Kori. i am 5'0" and 90lbs. i have been tiny my entire life, except for when i was pregnant and i weighed a happy 145. i have a six month old girl and have lost ALL of the weight that i gained. i have always wanted and tried to gain weight, my family is all small but i am by far the smallest. i would like to weigh 105lbs at least!! so i joined today and hope that with a network of support i can achieve my goal!

Hi there my name is Jodi and I'm 35 years old. I'm 5'2 and weigh at this post..92 lbs. I suffer from Anorexia. It started around 10 years old. I have a very difficult time trying to gain weight. I came across this website and liked the idea of being able to count my intake daily as I work towards getting myself healthy. Help is not readily available for people like me where I live so I continue to search for anything that can possibly help me until the day I either heal myself or find some place willing to treat someone my age. I've been told my body mass is too high (I was 72 lbs at the time) and my age was too high as they seem to only treat teenagers for this. So, here I am in hopes to get some tips or ideas on ways for me to get weight on my body and keep it there..I'd like to eat my anorexia to death heehee. Nehoo, there's a lil bit about me..nice to meet all of you.. Laughing Plinny..thank you for creating this group..it's a little light on the pathway to wellness..

Hi, im 15, trying to recover from disordered eating. Currently 45 kgs (100lbs) Trying to gain about 10lbs. I have a month and was wondering if people could recommend recipes, training programes? I just want my life back and feel I would be happier if I wasnt so thin and I would love to be healthy again.

I found the best way to gain weight is to eat alot of foods with high everything..carbs, protien and calories is what I've started doing..it's working nicely. I did the BMI counter on here and learned how many calories I need to be taking in a day and the meter toolbar helps to remind me of how many I have left to go a day. I turned it into a game..lets see how fast I can make the meter climb hehee.. 1200 is the minimum!! You require more but dont ever go below 1200!! I went online and typed in "high calorie recipes" and just searched through recipes that sounded good to me..anything with low fat I switch to regular as low fat products aren't allowed in my house!! I eat about every two hours since I can't eat large meals..otherwise..3 large meals with "snacks" in between each..could be a boost drink or a handful of nuts..Just look up what different foods contain and choose things you like that are high in it all..the drinks in between are good ONLY if you are also eating solids..so basically..8-10 small meals a day..or 3 normal size meals and 3 snacks or more.. I also cut out alot of exercise..you can't gain if you keep burning it off..That's about as much help as I can give you right now. I am currently in the same sitaution but what I have been trying recently is working very well..Pack the nutrients and good fats in!!! Potatoes, pasta, bread and milk pack it on fast!! Good luck hun ~hugz~

Hello guys, I'm ashes.

When I was in high school, I was slightly overweight because of all the junk they fed us in the school. After I got out, I changed my diet and due to health issues, cut out red meat compleatly form my diet. Also, I had to be treated for my migrains, and was put on Topmax which severley reduces you appitate. Now, I'm 22 and weigh around 100 pounds or so..I'm not that underweight, but its gotten to be enough that I need to put on rather than lose, which is all ive been doing steidaily for the past 2 years. I do not diet other than my general healthy eating habits, and I'm a lightly active person..but I'm getting to where I dont have the enegery thanks to my being undrweight. My doctors dont see a probelm because the weight loss has been steady, but since I'm doing nothing to make myself lose weight, I'm worried..I came here to calorie count to get help on how to get back and mantain a healthy weight.

Hi everyone

As many of you I have as well always been thin. I have never been able to gain weight. I have been around 40-42 kg for the past 10 years. And I am around 155 cm tall. I am almost never able to find the right sizes for me. Clothes that fit from my shoulders and belly are to tight over the chest and jeans...

I am almost 25 years old, and I look like 20. I got a wake up call when I saw the pictures from my sisters wedding. I was feeling so thin in the face that i now really want to do something about it, so now i have made the decision.

I have never counted the calories before, so lets see how that goes. I will probably need a lot of help.

Currently I am working as software engineer in a small consultant company. And have just met the love of my life. So life in general is just perfect.  SO these two things takes all of my time, the two things I just love.

I dont exercise, but I do run around all day along, at the office especially.

SO my next goal of life is to gain weight to reach atleast 48 kg.

All kind of tips are so welcome :)

//Sarah
