I'm a guy who has always been tall and lanky.  6 foot and 145lbs.  About a year and a half ago I tried to pick up weight and made it all the way up to 163.  I stopped working out and went back to my normal habits and lost it all in a couple months.

So here I am going to try this again for a second time.   Since I've done it once before I know it's possible and I'm hoping I will even be quicker/better at it this time since I've had experience at it before.

A couple things I do

1) protein shakes.  Cyto-gainer is the best I tried, mixes easy.  Do a half a suggested serving w/ 8 oz of milk, some fruit and banana's, about 500 calories and it's not hard to get down.

2) Peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread with 16oz of milk before you go to sleep.  770 calories.

3) Eat often throughout the day.  A pack of peanut butter crackers don't seem like much, but will add another 250 calories to your diet.

Slow and steady, don't gorge yourself.  strength train.  low reps high weight.

Meggie....we sound very much in the same boat.

I at about the same weight (if not 10-15 pounds lighter) than what I was when I graduated high school.  Like you, I rarely eat a breakfast and will sometimes eat a light lunch.  Then I eat quite a bit more in the evening.

I've never really tracked my 'diet', so the calorie count tool has been rather eye opening.  I've set a calorie intake goal and have been slowly working the quality of my food up.

I wish you the absolute best of luck!  I know how hard it is for us FAT-FREE folk (not skinny, we're fat free) to put on the pounds.  =)

haha i like that: "fat-free". Next time someone makes a comment about me being skinny i'm definitely using that one! Good luck with your weight gain, i'm up to 97 now! it's going very slow but i guess you gotta start somewhere :)

I've been skinny my whole life, and even in the beginning of this year (2009) I was at a measly 5'10" and 135lbs.  I started out with some GNC brand Mass XXX one to two times a day and got up to about 160 from February (when I started) to the end of April.  I've since changed to Cytosport's Cytogainer once a day and am at 170 now.  Recently, I purchased Monster Mass, Monster Milk, Monster Pump, Monster Amino, Fast Twitch, and Cytocarb II.  We'll see if I can add some more pounds.  I am taking in over 4000 calories a day and lifting weights 4 times a week.

I just started Calorie Count yesterday to track my intake. Joined the group to hear information on weight gaining and also to join the community.

I work as an engineering intern at a local business that makes technical wire in the Summer.  Go to College the other seasons.  One of my favorite things to do is working on cars.  Modifying imports is really fun for me.  I also play bass guitar at my local church.

welcome Jerry, just wondering what your taking in for regular foods?

on a normal day what are you eating to help get your 4000 calories?

Hello,

I'm Heather, 34 years old.  I am transgendered and would love to see some extra weight.  I am using this website to help keep track of my calories and to help stay focused on my goal.

I live with my boyfriend and work in the Restaurant Industry.  I also sew and would love to start my own sewing business.

I hope this website helps you as it helps me.

Good Luck!

Hi,

I joined this group yesterday, Aug 2, 2009. My reason to join this group and caloriecount is definitely to gain in healthy manner. I am 102 lbs at the age of 28 which is not good I believe. I have always been like this. I don't think I was ever too sick which made me like this, my body is just like this and doesn't put on weight whatever I eat.

I can understand my daily routine may be little bit responsible for such a weight. I work in IT and most of my time spends in front of computer, sitting and talking over phone. So very less or no excercise. Though I enjoy food I feel lazy most of the time to get something and eat. I would eat when I am absolutely hungry. With a very little apetite I think gaining weight is a great challenge for me and after being pushed by so many freinds, family and my fiancee I decided to take it seriously. Any suggestion in gaining weight and increasing my appetite will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kislay

Hi,

I joined because I need help in gaining weight.  I am 30 years old, 5'9" and only weight 112lbs!  I hate being this thin, I hate the comments people make such as "wow do you know how skinny you are?" My answer, "no, never looked in a mirror before."  I've been thin my whole life and have always struggled to gain weight.  I do not, nor have I ever, had an eating disorder.  I thought after giving birth I'd gain a few pounds, but no I actually got smaller.  I consider myself to be pretty but I am very self concious about how I look and try to wear clothes to hide how thin I am.  My boyfriend often grabs at my hip bones or makes comments about how I have no behind or how skinny I am thinking it'll motivate me to gain but it only makes me want to hide myself from him even more.  On the other hand he tells me I'm the "most beautiful creature" he's ever seen.

Anyway, looking for healthy weight gainer tips, foods and or products!  I'll try almost anything at this point.

Hello all!  I am a 33 year old stay at home mome of 3 beautiful children ages 12, 7 and 3.  I am 5'7" and weigh 107 lbs (I started here about a week ago and have successfully put on 2 lbs. now to see if it sticks).  I am hoping to get up to 125 lbs.  I am very much like my mother, we have a very high metabolism so its easy to lose weight but it is very difficult to put it on.  I am in need of moral support for my weight gain efforts from people who will not say that they will be happy to give me some of their weight.  My husband sends mixed signals so I am not sure if he is supportive or if he just does not have faith that I can do this (I have been trying for years to put on weight).  My mom and mother in law are supportive of my efforts but all of my friends and others in my family tell me I am just fine the way I am and not to change a thing.  I am not the healthiest of people and I tend to be extremely tired all the time.  I am hoping that if I put on some weight then maybe I will feel better in general.  I want to do this for me. Before I head back to school to get my nursing degree I think I should look healthier.  I am set to start college for the first time in spring.  So, I am hoping to get to my goal and then work on maintaining before the spring semester.  I am open to any and all suggestions and support!!

Hi I'm a 37-yo housewife. I'm also a writer and have been working on a comic book lately (never been published though).

I've been just about the same weight my whole life, around 98 lbs now. I went thru a period of time about ten years back where I started weight training with my husband and managed with concerted effort (minimized active cardio, had breakfast shakes after every workout, and doubled my meal portion sizes) to get up to 106, but was never able to get past that, and have lost it all since I haven't done any regular weight training in ages. My sort of weight-gain dream is that someday I'll weigh enough to be able to donate blood (110, I think).

My current interest in gaining is due to the fact that I'm about to go on a week-long walk/hike with my (athletic and different body-type) sister and have been trying to train for this. In the midst of me ramping up my physical activity, I've begun to actually lose weight, which was alarming, as I am dropping below healthy BMI now. Especially since I have alot more ramping up to do in terms of needed training (I'm at 2-4 miles a day now, need to be able to do 10), I started looking around to see if there wasn't any good advice on gaining or maintaining weight thru physical training. I've found advice elsewhere (mainly advice from weight training and marathon training sites: increase calories, esp carbs & proteins, and always eat both before and after physical exercise) but the Calorie Count & other tools here seemed the best to help me actually track my progress.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this community here, to know I'm not the only one who has trouble with this issue, since it is so difficult to talk about without all the usual comments elsewhere.

Hello :) Im jackie and im looking to gain at least 10 pounds. I've never been overweight in my life..im 16 years old 5"3 and im about 101 pounds. No matter how much i eat, i cannot gain! I would like to increase m daily cal intake to 3000. My interests are acting/singing which ive been doing since i was 7 :)

It's been just over a year since I lost the weight.  I was already being told how thin I was (although it was mostly my Dad, thinking his little girl could use some meat on her bones)  I was just fine at around 115.. but I knew I was in no position to lose.

Last year, I lost 15 pounds very quickly.. and without explanation.  I was in denial for a very long time, until my Mum and her friend expressed their concern for me.  And after hearing comments from others about how tiny I am, I'm realizing that I do need some help.

I want to gain the weight... at least 10 pounds.  But my biggest fear is that I will gain fat!  I work out everyday, which is part of the problem.  I've cut back on cardio and am lifting weights but still can't manage to gain.  I'm one of those people that if I miss a workout, I'm unhappy.  Also, I tend to get upset with myself if I "go overboard" eating something that isn't great for me.

I know I have a problem, and could use some help.

If anyone has advice, or would like to work together, Msg me.  I appreciate it.

Hello, all

My name is Brian, i am 6 ft, and currently weigh between 155-160.  This is the biggest i have ever been in my life, unfortunately it is all in the spare tire i have gained around my waist since graduating college.  i am now up to a 32 in most pants, and a 34 in some.  i feel out of proportion, and very self-aware/self conscious of the fact i now have a belly.

Most of my life i weighed 130-135, wore a 28-29 in waist, and was never able to gain weight.  Protein shakes mess up my stomach, and i cant physically eat enough to gain.

i have no history with this site, but my reasons for joining are to convert my "heart attack fat" around my belly back into a six-pack, as well as gain muscle mass up to my goal weight of a healthy, fit, and cut 175-185.

Interesting details....I am an accountant, as well as a financial planner, studying for my CFP exam, not married, awesome family, i actually work at my father's accounting/financial planning/tax rep firm.  i have two boston terriers that i try to walk every night, about 1.5 miles, though i am sure they would go further.  My interests lie in the acquisition and preservation of wealth for myself as well as my clients, camping, atving, working in and around my home, most anything outdoor in nature.

Hope that intro wasnt too long, and i would welcome any and all suggestions/advice on how to reach my goal.

Thanks,

-Brian

Hi I'm Shawn

I'm 6'2 and 140 lbs. Most of my adult life, I oscillated between 150 and 155 but was never really concerned about it. When I broke up with my live-in fiancee in 11/2007 I was at 160, and rapidly lost the 20 lbs. At first, I just figured I would bounce back, but I've become increasingly concerned.

So I've been proactive, searching the internet for weight gaining tips, and thought I'd give this site a try. My biggest concern is my lack of self-discipline. Hopefully involvement with this group will help me with that.

Hello Shawn,

I suggest using the calorie count toolbar and set yourself up on a weight gain diet..if you haven't already of course. It helps me alot..I am only 90 lbs and 5,2 so this little tool has acutally helped save me. As for weight gain..well..I have found the best recipes for weight gain on the net are all geared for kids with cystic fibrosis. Their foods are very high in calories yet still very healthy. Nuts r wonderful for gaining weight..tho some believe almonds are good..they really aren't for people trying to gain weight..they are actually a natural appetite suppressant as well as green tea. I would avoid those if I were you. Green tea is wonderful to cleanse the body but promotes weight loss as well. Avoid eating the bad fats..(sugars ect) but take in alot of carbs and calories. I find drinking boost in between my meals really helps as well. I buy boost "plus calories" There are 360 calories per bottle...VERY good to help u gain weight as long as u eat along side of them. I will leave you a site I found for cystic fibrosis kids..Hopefully it will help you reach your goal in some way. Kudos to you for thinking about your health Shawn!! Good luck on your mission of gaining weight!!  http://kidshealth.org/teen/recipes/

Hey everyone...So my name is Vu and it's nice to meet you.  I joined calorie count to actually gain weight compared to most of you who are here to lose weight. So really I have been fit most of my life doing sports non-stop all through-out high school and continuing.  I am 19 years old now and wanted to play college football.  I am fast, agile, have hands, and am coordinated.  However, that isn't enough to play college ball.  Size matters a whole lot before I can even be considered at all.  So I am about 130 and I am 5'8".  My goal is to gain about 30 pounds to start off with so I can go make the team so I can play some ball in college.  I was the strongest kid pound-for-pound at my highschool and I intend to keep that strength up as the weight goes up.  I started about a month ago on this site and gained about 5 pounds (starting at 125 of course).  I eat about 3000-4000 calories a day and working out twice a day.  Any suggestions to help me grow quicker and maintain this weight I would greatly appreciate your advice.  Thanks, everyone have a great day :D

Hello.. Im Candice 28yrs old and im here just the same as everyone else! I am married and have 4 wonderful children.. I weighed about 104 before my first child. Now after my 4th im only at 108lbs.... I lose weight so easy but so hard for me to gain!!!!!! Im not a tall person. 5'2 so i would like to gain about 15-20lbs. Please give me some good idea on how to get this weight on!!!!!!

- History with weight loss:  Weight loss has always been an issue, I try to gain weight as much as I can now that I"m getting older. In the past it was never really an issue but I seemed to disturb others with my old eating habbits: Cake, Pies, Donuts, fatty foods with lots of sugar. It's only recently that I started eating healthier and vegetables.

- Reason for joining this group: Need advice from time to time about weight gain, plus having support is nice too. Specially when there's others out there trying to do the same.

- Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Currently I work for ITT/BIW.  Unfortunately no computer work, I'm just a grunt in the warehouse.  We basically make parts for oil connections, like the oil rigs and pipelines.  Rather satisfying work.  As far as pets I have a cat and a puppy, purebred rat terrier.  Interests: Art.  I love drawing, usually just pencil and paper, but recently got into designing tattoos for the people I work with.  Made one for my fiance and one for her friend.  Only a few people have gotten theirs, kinda on the slow side when it comes to doing the artwork for others.

I just admitted out loud recently that I have an addiction to losing weight. I have never been diagnosed with an eating disorder because I lie pretty well. I am currently "severly underweight" and am looking to gain some muscle but more importantly I am looking to improving my relationship with food so that I feel good about the weight gain. I have belonged to Calorie Count for a couple years now but have now switched from using it to lose weight to using it as a tool to gain.

I am also seeking professional help.

Kudo's on you for seeking professional help. If you haven't been able to get your problem under control for that many years..you most definately have a major issue to deal with hun. I know all about it. I am anorexic. I have been for about 15 years. Currently I am waiting to get into a treatment center as my problem is completely out of control. The hardest part is being able to admit you have a problem. You have already taken one giant leap to "taking your life back" hence my name. You need to get some weight on your body before you start trying to bulk up muscle. All I can say is to look for foods high in calories and lots of protien, carbs... I suggest you STOP using the calorie counter tool. It's a means of making yourself worse..NOT GOOD FOR YOU! Pat yourself on the back for admitting your problem..and do your very best to take control of your life again. This illness is fatal hun..So now you have to decide..is being so thin worth dying for? No one cares how you look when your dead..  Just remember that. Keep trying and NEVER give up!! You can do it!!!

Pardon my last post..I misread your comment about the calorie counting tool. My apologies!! If you are using it to help gain then thats awesome!! Thats what I try to use it for also! Im so sorry I misread that. good for you!! Keep it up!! Laughing
