'course, I don't even own a Wii, let alone a Wii fit, so why I'm in charge here is anybody's guess
- must be my exercise nerd credentials ![]()
Hi all I'm Katie and I actually have a Wii Fit and I love it! My history with weight loss hasn't been a terrible one. I've had two children and gained quite a bit of weight with the first, nearly 60 pounds to be exact. I went from a size 5 pre-baby to a 16 after baby. It took awhile but I gradually dropped to a size 8 pant size and a 6 dress size. Then got pregnant again only this time I didn't gain a ton of weight and droped to a size 10 after the baby. Then came the depo shot where I was like Godzilla when it came to food, I was constantly hungry and packed on the pounds.
So I started exercising again and counting my calories and have lost about 15 pounds since I started with Calorie Count almost two years ago. I haven't been dedicated to counting my calories the whole two years, but I go in spurts and this must be another one.
My reasoning for joining this group is that I have a Wii Fit and I love it. We have had a Wii for about a month now but I just started working out with the Wii Fit just over a week ago. It's nice and encouraging, you can go at your own pace and it weighs you everyday.
Now to the hard part, something interesting about myself. Well I recently quit my job of over six years to be a stay at home mom to my two kids, while I am trying to finish up my BA in Management. I am painfully close to being a senior and hope to be finished by September of next year. My family and I live in Parkersburg Iowa which on May 25th experience an EF5 tornado that took out half of our town. Our house was damaged, being only a block from where all the devistation was. However, my parent's house in New Hartford (8 miles east of Parkersburg) was not so lucky. It's been a trying three months for us, but our town and my parent's are getting back on their feet. I guess that is as exciting as I get.
Hi everyone! I'm Karey and I'm a Wii Fit nerd, lol! I love my Wii Fit and try to use it daily if possible. I've struggled with my weight since I was in my late teens/early twenties, topping out around 200 lbs a few years ago. Since then I've dropped a little bit and was around the 180's for awhile. My husband actually found this site (by accident) in February and I've been losing weight on here ever since. I've lost about 43 lbs so far and have about 3-4 more to go to get to my goal weight.
I try to exercise daily, either Wii Fit (strength training section & yoga, some aerobics), or I'm working on the Couch to 5k Program. I joined this group because I think the Wii Fit is great and it motivates me to exercise and makes it a little bit more fun.
As for an interesting detail about myself... It's probably fairly obvious, but as my screen name suggests, I'm a professional dog groomer. I also have been known to groom the occasional cat, skunk, & fox (seriously - her name is Princess). I'm a huge animal lover and my husband and I have two furry kids... a cat named Izzy and a German Shepherd named Mya. I love music and art too.
Welcome Karey! I can't wait until I have been with it as long as you have. Wii is completely adicting and I'm pretty bummed that I am going to miss three days while I am away camping this weekend!
I love how it weighs you every day and that you can completely go at your own pace. The board makes you do the moves right, even after two weeks with it I notice that I walk straighter and have some definition in my arms. Who hoo!
I've been boxing the last two days that that is a work out! Congrats on your weight loss and continued success in your new healthy lifestyle!
Katie
Thanks Katie! Yes, the Wii is so addicting! I'm sure it's going to scold you when you come back from your camping trip and say "Too busy to work out yesterday, eh Katie?", lol. I hate when it scolds you or when your weight goes up a bit because you weighed at a different time and it makes you chose a reason for the gain and then it tells you that you should try and weigh at the same time every day so it's consistent. I also noticed more definition in my arms and legs, plus my balance has definitely improved.
I like the boxing one too... my husband is always worried I'm going to end up punching his precious tv though. :D Hope you have a great time camping!

Hello, my name is Jason and I have been on CalorieCount for close to 2 years now. I have lost 60 and have maintained for over a year. We got a Wii for my two sons about 4 months ago, and I think I play it more than them. :) We just got Wii Fit on 9/14 so it's still pretty new for us but it's a blast. Oh, yeah, and a decent workout. I was surprise how the Yoga makes ya sweat. :) It's tougher than it looks.
Hi. I'm Laura. I have been on CC since May, counting seriously since June. I just got the Wii fit today & so far it looks great!
I have lost 23 pounds so far, but have another 40 to go. I work out with a trainer 3 times per week, but I thought this would be a great way to improve balance & I'm really looking forward to the yoga. Should be fun!
Hi, all. I started gaining weight in my 30's, just 2-5 pounds over the winters with some summer losses. It was probably started by the broken foot and subsequent arthritis. When my mom died of a heart attack at 67 and her clothes fit me (I was 43), I knew I had to do something if I wanted to live more than 20 more years. I joined Weight Watchers at Work and lost 30+ pounds. The problem with a successful at Work group is that members who reach their goal no longer count as members, and you have to keep recruiting more people to keep the group going, and ours eventually fizzled. I just can't get motivated to go to a not-at-work meeting at 8am on a Saturday, so I've let the pounds start slowly creeping back.
I found C-C by accident (same as others, searching for the number of calories in food I was adding to my log) in July, 2007. When I log in and keep my log, I lose weight! When I don't, I think, oh a milkshake today won't hurt, a burger would taste so delicious, a hot dog from the gas station is quick...
I've been married to wonderful and supportive man for 27 years. He has two sons who are nearing 40 and we have a 26-year-old daughter. One son has been married for 3 years, and he has three teenage stepchildren. I'm an accountant in a bank, so - you guessed it - I spend all day at a computer. Then I go home and "play" on the computer. I also enjoy a lot of different crafts, reading, travelling and motorcycling. The only exercise I enjoy is bicycling, but it doesn't fit into Michigan weather and my schedule really well, so my regular exercise is dog-walking. I found it boring, but I stuck with it, only because our older lab-mix and our youngish Jack Russell are both much better-behaved if they get their daily walk. After more than a year, I finally look forward to it myself!
My out-of-shape gadget-nerd husband (OK, the whole family are gadget-nerds) wanted a Wii and finally found one earlier this year. Then, we saw an article about Wii Fit and thought maybe that would get him off the couch a little more often, so we splurged again. I LOVE it - I think it's fun and a good workout, and does a pretty good job monitoring form. Unfortunately, I'm involved in a long-drawn-out process of moving house, including daily carloads, that will culminate in lots of minor renovations - painting and cleanup and repair work. So, no time to play now.
But I'll check back as soon as my schedule opens back up.
Meanwhile, thanks to all of you for being here, and enjoy your "games"!
Hi guys
I just joined CC a couple of days ago and was wondering how I can get some exercise in. It seems like the Wii Fit might be an idea I would be interested in but I have some questions because I no nothing about it.
Is there a weight limit that the game can take...like if you're over 250 will it break?
When you purchase the Wii Fit package do I need anything else, like a nintendo console of some type or is everything included in the package?
I have a bad back and knees. Degenerated disc S5 L1 and bone on bone arthritis in both knees. Would I even be able to try something like this do you think?
I would appreciate your answers as I really need to find some way to exercise.
Thanks in Advance
Sharron
Hi, sharron
I have bone on bone arthritis in my left hip, but with chiropractic care and a recumbent bike, I am a lot more flexible. At first I didn't think wii fit would work for me because it requires me to stand up...but I've gotten better at it! My son and others have noticed that I get around better, I am less wobbly and slow. Last weekend I even walked through the weekly grocery shopping instead of riding a scooter. That was great!
I would check the nintendo website for the weight question. I don't know. I started using it around 242, but I don't know the limit.
Yes, the $90 wii fit balance board and disk do require that you already have the wii console--so the whole shebang ends up costing around $300 I think. Mine was a gift...
Whether you do wii fit or not, I hope you find help, encouragement, and the good tools on CC. It's really been a great experience for me, and I keep coming back.
I know this thread is a tad old, but for those reading it now, the Wii balance board's weight limit is 300 pounds.
I have bad feet and sore ankles, so I just have to be careful to pay attention to how they feel. I avoid the exercises that make them sore or swell.
Hello! My name is Lila. I have had the Wii and Wii fit/Wii fit plus for 2.5 months and am using it a few times per week. I really love the Yoga and realize I never would have tried Yoga otherwise, I get distracted too easily and don't like going to classes or watching DVD's.
I have been clipping out exercises from magazines for YEARS and never did more than a session or two before I put them in a drawer, feeling silly for even trying to execute the moves. With the 2-3 minute long fitness exercises on Wii Fit I actually do them and feel like the are having the intended effect and I'm not in pain from using poor form.
I play the balance games often with my partner in multi-player mode on the Wii Fit Plus and we are both very competitive. I like inviting my Mom and family members to try fun games like the hula hoop and step ones, and it was hilarious to actually play a "video game" with them! My mom even wondered if a Wii would help my 82 y/o grandma with her balance(well, it's a thought).
I love the concept of the Wii and want to continue to use it every week, hopefully increasing frequency as I stick to it. I have yet to lose weight but I know I am not pushing hard enough just yet, but I am still creating positive habits and keeping tabs on my weight with the body tests, so I am pleased thus far!!
