Hi ladies! Please feel free to call me DP, makes it easy and less typing.
1. Been a yo yo dieter my whole life and was never into fitness. Can you say 'emotional eating'? There were times when I feel that was coined just for me. At any rate...started at 245 lbs and am hovering between 132-134lbs. Went from size 24 to size 4-6.
2. Joined Calorie Count in 2006 or 2007 (cant remember) but never really participated until I joined the gym in July 2007 and began logging calories online and in my handwritten journal. Enjoy the forums, and participate frequently.
3. Reason for joining this group? Our age and our love of fitness.
4. Widow since Dec 2005. Two grown children and four fabulous grands. Love to do anything active...adore dancing, love to strength train and bike. Work in Marketing for a retirement community.
1. History with weight loss: I have never had that much of a weight loss problem...until I went over 40. I am now 45.
2. History with Calorie Count: I found it by googling wanting to know the calories of something, added to favs, a year ago, but I joined today
3. Reason for joining this group: I am over 40 and there are changes in our 40+ bodies that I am learning about the hard way.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a photographer, I have been married going on 15 years, i have 2 step youngins, 6 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. One Eng. Bulldog, and 4 cats. I added up the other day, I smoked, combined 28 years. I have been quit now for a year and a half. Now, I need to quit the buffets! Went to the doctor for a physical, because I have started running and found all is good, except for that pecksy cholesterol. It's up a little. He put me on Crestor for a month and I will go back and have it checked. Ran my first 5K after only two weeks of running, and I use that term loosely. It's more like a fast shuffle. From Calorie Counter, I found out that I run 5mph. Not bad, though, for an ex-smoker. I just want to get back into shape and get my breathing capacity back. I have been walking/running for 3 weeks now, and my breathing is already better. I run every other day 2 - 4 miles every other day. And I walk the dog 2 miles on the other days. Really am excited about my new journey and will enjoy taking it with my new 40+ friends!!!!!

Hi
I am 52 years old but as I write it, it feels funny, 'cause I still feel about 30. I am physically very fit, try to move as much as possible, although I hit laziness spells often, now. I was never fat, although I had my regular fluctuations. Now, I have been struggling with pre- (or peri-, whatever)-menopause for a number of months and noticed a sort of mood-swing/bloating/weight-gain/ravenous-hung er pattern. I just joined caloriecount.com. I am overcoming my procrastinating attitude by starting to use it right away. When I saw your group's description, I thought it would be a good fit. I would like to shed some 6 or 7 lbs. and most of all to get rid of my hunger days.
A few details about me: I come from Italy, got married (again) three years ago, have a son in college.
I look forward to chatting with you.
Oh, don't get me started on procrastination! I'm a terrible procrastinator! I think that was part of my weight problem..... I'd procrastinate for so long on what kind of healthy meal I wanted to fix for myself, I'd end up eating something from the freezer because I'd run out of time to cook!
Welcome.
Thank you for your empathy. Your email was a pick-me-up. I went back and read about you. It's striking what can happen over a few months/couple of years. Congratulations for your strength and determination. I need to work on that.
Hello,
I am faily new to cc. I joined at the end of March. I have been working on a life style change since mid Jan.
I am 44 and am doing these changes with my loving husband. I haven't had a major weight problem for most of my life. I've always been fairly active. In my 30's I ran, taught a step class, and lifted weights. I had about 12% body fat......I fell off that wagon when life got in the way with stress.
I started smoking again and got really out of shape. I quit smoking March 18, 08. I gained about 20lbs since. In Jan I started working out and walking and running. I have a pretty good idea of what to eat but had to re-learn portion sizes. I have lost 19 of the 20 pounds gained and would like to get back down to my fighting weight of 145 pounds.
I joined cc when I stumbled acrossed it looking for weight loss solitions. I found that keeping track of what is going in and how much is burned I 'm having much better success.
I have found that going through Peri-menopause has made it tougher to drop the weight. But with my happy cream and cc I have had better success.
As for more about me.....I have been married for over 28 years to the same handsome wonderful man. I have two grown (at least they think they are) children. A 27 year old daughter and a 20 year old son. I also have 3 dogs and 2 cats.
I own 2 small business and live in a small town in Montana (yes we just had 2 feet of snow fall yesterday).
I look forward to chatting with you all and learning from all of you. We are in the same boat.....we might be able to help each other along the way.

P.S. Kaufmkk, I too read your story and have to say you are one hell of a lady!!!
You should be very proud of yourself!
History with weight loss Most of my life I have been heavy, twice I have lost 70 -80 pounds but they came back. Once when I was a teenager and once after the birth of my 3ed child. I gained the pounds back slow just 5 or 10 lbs a year.
History with calorie count Joined in March 2009 at 224, lost about 20 pounds they during summer I back slided and gained back about 10 pounds. I find I do much better when I log my food and exercise, journal and have a few friends to share thought with.
Reason for Joining this Group Feb. 5 I had quadruple bypass heart surgery and have a new determination for a healthy lifestyle.
I am 67 years old, for the past 10 years I have been taking lipador and plavix and thought this was going to protect me from heart issues. I mentioned to my doctor during a routine check up I had a funny feeling in the top of my chest when I exerted myself. I thought I had the beginning of emphysema as my grandmother and mother suffered from it. He said sounds more like angina to me, if it continues I think you should have a stress test. He also wanted me to have a colonosopy and sent me to see a surgeon. The PA that did my physical asked about chest pain, I told her the same thing, she said I think you should have the stress test before we continue. She said I worked for a lady doctor that had the same symptoms you describe and she had a heart attack. So I had the stress test, failed it bad, the next day they scheduled me for a cauterization. They knew I had blockages and thought a couple stints would fix me up. After the catherization the cardiologist said you have four blockages and they are located places stint will not work you need open heart surgery and we want to do it tomorrow morning. One of my arteries was hanging by a tread. Long story short it was done the next morning, I now feel great, better that I have in years and I am committed to get this weight off.
Last year I joined a local health club, I enjoy the pool and have been going to water aerobics and least once a week, Since my surgery I walk 40 minutes a day at a pretty good clip. 20 minutes twice a day.
My husband and I are semi retired, we escort oversize trucks (follow with yellow flashing lights) from point A to point B mostly in the Northeast. For the past 4 years specializing in windmill deliveries to wind farms in New York State where we live.
I am sure I would have had a heart attack, and glad it was caught before it happened. Kaufmkk what a story, you have to be proud of yourself.
Hi everyone my name is Mary and my weight problems started about 15 years ago. Those pounds just keep creeping on and now they are becoming a real problem. I had a heart attack in Sept and now I am trying to lose weight. I put on 40 lbs since the heart attack.
I joined this site late last year, but like the diet I am also a yo-yo poster too (not sure what to call it). I quit smoking six months ago and my doc is saying that is why I am gaining the weight. Almost makes me want to light up!
I am hoping to join this group with the same issues as me. I am 45 and still feel 29, now if I could look like I was 29 I would be great!!
Started eating better again yesterday and taking note of what I ate. I have gotten through today alright, but hope I have the energy after work to walk for at least 30 minutes.
Tryingtogetitoff,
You are doing great with just quitting the smoking (ex-smoker myself). If you can walk in the morning it may work out better.....you will create more energy for the rest of the day (I know it doesn't seem that way in the beginning) So you got through yesterday eating well, everyday is a new day. Taking one day at a time and not talking mean to yourself daily.
Your metabolism does slow down after you quit smoking. If you exersice daily for 20-30 minutes 5-6 times a week and eat nutrient dense food your metabolism will pick up again.
Yes we all have some of the same issues. We all would like to look 29 again......or the best darn 40 something woman we can be. We are all here to support each other.
Welcome to the group
Hello! I have never had a weight issue til I hit 40 now I am 48 and trying to lose a few pounds and manage my yoyo dieting and emotional eating which is hard. I am married with two sons 24 and 26. I enjoy gardening and music. I do the threadmill every day 2 miles some days even 3 miles with no weight loss. It seems like its not working but I will continue anyway. Look forward to chatting with you all and reading your stories and advice.
Hello!
I have always been weight concious all my life. But I guess at age 42 I realized what came naturally in the past now needed focus and work.
I lost 35 in 2005 by counting calories and fat grams. I made my goal weight of 130lbs It took me about 10 months to loose them! Over the past year I have found 8 of those pounds! I began calorie count in April 27(I believe) at 136. Over the past month I have lost 3lbs. It is coming off slow like before! So I have to be patient!
I have a new goal of 125lbs. But I have a mini goal of 130lbs by June 15.
I will be 45 June 7! Sometimes I tell people I am 49 then they think I really look great for my age! I know I'm crazy!
My husband just looks and shakes his head, and says yep she's older the I am!(He's 48) I am proud to be in my forty's!! This absolutely has been the best time of my life. We have two boys 24 and 16 one out of the house one on the way out! Glory hallelujah! My husband and I have been able to travel over the last two years. (My teenager preferred to travel to grandmas and be with cousins his own age!)
My weight loss is also a health concern. My mother and older sister diagnosed with breast cancer. So I am watching fat intake suggested by my doctor and of course self-exam and yearly mamo. So that's my story. Lifestyle change is what I have to continue. Diets are temporary. Just like vacations. hmm. But vacations are more fun and you get to eat!
Thank you for this group, I have joined and left some of the other groups here because of some people's ideas of how to lose and maintain weight. I am 45 years old, 5 ft 6 in and at last read 150 lbs.
I was always big. My mom tried as she might when I was a child to get me to exercise and stuff but it never worked. When I turned 39 I realized that I was looking old and didn't like the image in the mirror. I was 200 lbs and couldn't walk up a staircase.
With my husband being diabetic, changing the eating habits was fairly easy, that and the fact I am not a fussy eater. The exercise started with walking the dog twice a day, that led to a treadmill in the basement, a small exercise bench with free weights and a exercise bike. i am hoping to soon get a home gym to add to the collection.
I have been down to 140 lbs since then but I went back to school and took on an office job and didn't change the amount of food I was eating so I topped out at 158 lbs at the end of April and decided it was time to find that 140 again.
I don't believe in fads or restrictive diets, I like to eat way too much for that. I believe that activity is important or the goals will not be achieved.
My mother who pestered me when I was young is now my role model, she is 80 and still exercises everyday.
I have been a role model myself to 2 of my nieces who both work out now and my oldest sister who has had a yo-yo relationship with her weight until the last two years.
Sounds like you have a handle on what it takes to maintain your weight. I believe but have never done it that you need to take action before your have 50 or even more lbs to lose. I have lose 80 lbs twice in my life and very gradually gained them back.
I have 50 to lose and intend this time to keep it off. Best wishes on your journey. I had open heart surgery in Feb. 4 bypasses and do not want to have it again. So I am committed to the exercise every day. Do water aerobics 1-3 times a week and the eliptical everyday for 20 minutes. I thought this would be a more active group, hasn't really taken off yet. Barb
Thanks for the welcome. I hope to be able to help others on their journey as well.
I mentioned that my mom is my mentor, while she was the healthy, active one, my father showed me the way I didn't want to end up, he smoked a pack a day for 40+ years and only quit when the doctors told him they couldn't help him if he didn't stop, emphysema, he was overweight, when he retired he decided retired meant that he didn't have to do anything or go anywhere thus he ended up gaining weight, with that came diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
I got to see healthy living and unhealthy living under one roof.
1. History with weight loss - I was a skinny kid growing up. didn't gain wieght until my first pregnancy. I did my first WW after the birth of my first child 16 years ago - it was successful then but after my second child I have never been able to lose the weight. I lost 20 pounds once on with LA Weight loss but immediately gained it back after I quit.
2. I have used Calorie Count before but I work in various places that don't have internet access so it was hard to keep up with things away from home.
