Hi!
Healthy cooking to me, means learning to appreciate the true flavors of food because you're not hiding them with gobs of salt, sugar or added fat.
I may have let my cooking become too simple though (steamed chicken, baked fish and steamed veggies) and would like to share tips about using more fresh herbs or spices, which have health benefits of their own!

Since getting married, Betsie and I have been trying to improve our cooking skills. This will be a great group for us!
I love food! What can I say ;-) Actually, my husband and I love cooking and trying new healthy things. We eat a lot of whole/fresh/unprocessed foods (minus the occasional mac & cheese with hotdogs).
Looking forward to mingling!
Of, course I had to join this group. Not only do I love to cook especially healthy, but this group was founded by one of my favoriet people. Claire Laine is the best and has so much healthy cooking knowledge.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I was thin until I reached my 30's, then I went from 115 to 225 ish in about 6 months. I've been struggling to lose it ever since. I joined CC in July 2008 at 200 pounds, and am now sitting at 179.8. I am 39, 5'6.5"
I joined this group because I love healthy food, I want to learn more and share with others what I've learned.
Something interesting about me? Well I'm writing a book, the first of a series. I work as a telemarketer, which I love. I share my home with a betta fish named Sampson and a cat named Delilah.
Ok, who's next?

my name is gary, im 21, soon to be 22 and got a brain injury a year and 7 months ago
history with weight loss: i don't really have of a history with weight loss, i am 5' 10" and weigh 125 pounds, which is classified as underweight. i blame this on my brain injury, because i am unable to do many exercises i used too with spasticity in my right side, and so am being very careful with my intake. i used to skate, but that is impossible now
history with calorie count: i like to be aware of exactly what goes into my body and calorie count was the best website i found of how to do that.
reason for joining this group: to interact with people, and do something fun on the internet, and because i really like healthy food, and i think i know a lot about food, i in fact eat organic in all that i can, and am vegan, and am looking to make a large change in our diet, because i think that a lot of the problems we see in our world today have to do with diet
some interesting details about myself: i don't have a job or anything to do all day, because i live in an apartment that my mom is paying for with my social security money plus some of her own, so on the weekdays i wait for my mom to come by after her work, and then we go to the adaptive recreation center which is like a gym for the handicapped and on the weekends we go to whole foods. that is all that can be known about me currently, and hopefully much of it will change as soon as we get support from dars (department for assistive and rehabilitative services), hopefully in september
My name is Marie and I will be turning 40 in January. I think I am finally ready to make the comment to get all extra weight off that I need to.
I love cooking. I have a huge garden which makes it really easy to enjoy fresh vegetables.
I also have three young children that I want to teach healthy eating habits to so they don't have to struggle with their weight all their life like I have had to.
I love trying new things, ingredients, etc. I am looking forward to being part of this group.
Hello everyone, I joined this group because I want to learn how to cook Healthy foods. I am 5'4 and 161lbs my son is also overweight. I want to learn more on cooking good healthy meals.
Hello! My name's Josie and I love healthy food! I have no need for weight loss but I'm determined to be healthy and eat natural, mostly plant-based foods with a little dairy product mixed in! Learning some vegetarian cooking tips would be nice! I want to learn to cook well for the sake of my future family, who I don't want to doom to living on Kraft mac n' cheese and Trix cereal, like my mom did to me, haha!
Hi everyone!
My names Claire and... well, i'm somewhat obsessed with cooking and baking!
I've been interested in it since i was 10... which is probably why i gained so much weight lol.
I started off with very oily, carb loaded foods.
However now, with my new lifestyle change, I want to be cooking healthy foods!
I don't think it's very hard, but i am looking for foods or recipes that i might not have thought to try!
um, personal info...
I'm 17, joined CC a few years ago when i was overweight and struggling to lose weight.
Back when diets only lasted 2 days and fried potatoes topped with cheese and sauce were considered as a common lunch time favourite.
I love this site and it has helped me so much!
I lost 20kg since i was at my worst, but i've spent the last 12 months yo-yo dieting due to lifes stresses and a traumatic event and gained 10kg.
So! Since July i've started working at losing that 10kg again and so far i've lost 5 and i'm hoping to lose 5 more before december!
:) Hopefully healthy eating (and exercise) can get me there!
Hi-
When I decided that I needed to lose weight to have a life worth living, I found out how beneficial healthy food is. It surprises me how physical and mental health are so related. One of the simple changes in my breakfast is now instead of having something loaded with sugar or oil, I have Kashi Go Lean hot oatmeal. It has stuff like omega 3, high protein and fiber, even brown rice and buckwheat. And it still tastes really good. (ALWAYS important!)
Anyway, right now I am 190 and my goal is a beautiful but healthy 120. This website is so helpful and so cool, I really needed the emotional support and a way to organize it all somehow. I was lost. I think it's great how they offer advice but still let you do your own thing. They help you however you need or want it. So awesome, I can't believe I found it. And what a price.
Hello Healthy Cooking Group!
A funny thing happened yesterday...
I was doing research for a book I'm writing, when I stumbled upon CalorieCount.com. I watched the demo and poked around a bit and figured out this was a really great resource for recipes, nutritional information, and weight management. I began this project 6 weeks ago and this site was a real eye-opener for me! I found that many of the recipes that I've been preparing for my family for years are loaded with fat, carbs, and calories. Given this information, I am truly amazed that my whole family isn't dealing with serious weight issues--YIKES!
So, my primary motivation for joining this group is to find healthier alternatives for my meal planning that A) will cut back on our calorie intake, B) not take a whole lot of time to prepare and C) me, my kids and husband will actually eat. The last one is probably going to be the toughest because we absolutely LOVE to eat high-fat, high-carb comfort foods (can you say homemade macaroni and cheese?). Even though mac 'n cheese is probably my most favorite thing in the whole world to eat, I also love sushi, salads, and just about anything that can be eaten raw. However, the rest of my family does *not* share my enthusiasm for these things, so they are pretty much non-existent in their diets.
Though I'm only about 15 pounds overweight and it really doesn't show because I'm fairly tall (5'8"), I really hate being a size 12 and want to get back to my pre-pregnancy size from 11 years ago. Actually, I was wearing a size 8 then (135 lbs), but that was a little too thin; I think I look best at a weight of around 150 or size 10.
WOW, this is getting really long--sorry about that! Just a couple more things about me if you care to keep reading:
I live in the beautiful high desert of Central Oregon (where the sun shines something like 350 days a year) with my husband, 2 boys ages 9 & 11, 2 dogs (both lab/shepherd crosses that came from the local animal shelter), 1 Tennessee Walking Horse, and 4 dwarf hamsters. My husband and I have owned and operated a small garbage company serving about 1200 people here for the past 13 years.
In no particular order, I enjoy horseback riding, golfing, hiking, gardening, cooking, reading, photography (love to take pictures of food!), tent-camping, & volunteering at my kids' schools.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to being part of this community!

P.S. Can anyone tell me if including my website address in my signature is allowed? Would that be considered advertising?
Hello All.
I'm relatively new to CC and just finding my way around and meeting people. I'm 58, married, retired and live in a rural area...just the husband, me, one dog, one cat. Our two sons are both married and live in other states but we see them frequently. We have one grandson.
Don't really have a weight loss history. I'm well within my ideal weight range, but I would like to lose 10 pounds which would put me smack in the middle of said range and I feel much better about myself at 120 than I do at 130 or 135. It's about feeling healthy for me. Again, the perception thing. Most of my effort is in exercise rather than dieting -- strong bodies are healthy bodies, right?
Hope to find some alternate cooking methods which provide tasty meals that the hubby will find satisfying that are also healthy.
Hi! I'm Julie. Just ran across this group on my homepage. I'll just introduce myself via the questions Clarelaine posted ...
1. History with weight loss:
Most of my life, I've been on the thin side, but middle age struck with a vengeance, and now I'm fighting to get the 30 pounds off that crept on during and after the birth of my children. My youngest is 10-1/2 now, so I don't think I can use that as an excuse anymore.

2. History with Calorie Count:
Hmmm ... can't remember when I joined here, but it was sometime over the summer. I was very faithful at first, and then I waned a bit because I had to have some surgery on my sinuses. During that hiatus, I managed to put back nearly every pound I had previously lost, but I've whipped myself back into action this past week, and I'm nearly 1/2-way back to where I was. A good bit of it seems to be because I haven't been getting enough water during the day; the other half is ice cream.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I love healthy cooking. I love cooking in general, but in the past several years, I've really been focusing on moving my family towards more health-conscious eating. I love using fresh fruits and vegetables.
I'm a "foodie." I can't get enough of Alton Brown, and I love any show that mixes science with cooking.
I've also just finished In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. It was a fascinating read about how our Western Diet here in the U.S. is making us fat and unhealthy. It's inspired me to extend our healthy cooking and eating habits by eliminating, as much as we can, processed foods and ingredients we can't pronounce.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I'm married and have two children -- a son and a daughter. We are/were home schoolers. This year, however, my DS started high school. Given the high quality of our local public h.s., it seemed logical to send him back. I still have DD at home until next year, when she wants to return to attend Middle School.
I like to knit and read and watch the Cubs play baseball. I'm also trying to become enthusiastic about exercise; DD helps with this.
Naturally, there's much more, but I believe that's enough for now!
Hello Everyone!
My name is Claire and I have been on a long, slow weight loss journey....about as slow as it took for me to gain it!! ![]()
But I love to cook and I love to explore healthy cooking and better, healthful choices.
I have recently been training with a trainer at my gym and learning how to lose fat weight while gaining lean muscle. It has truly changed how I look at weight loss and it has made the most difference in my loss and my body composition. I am back at CC to help me get the most out of my calories each day and make sure I am eating enough but not too much! I look forward to hearing everyone's ideas....and it seems like this is a pretty new group so we can venture together! Thanks everyone!
Hello Everyone!
My name is Amanda and I have recently ( last October... wow time has flown!)been selected for an extremely stressful, busy, overtaxing, and underpaid position. But I love it! Anyway, before I was in this position I had just succesfully trimmed down from 195 to 154 pounds. I was eating 1800 calories of the healthiest yummiest foods and worked out religiously on the eliptical, hiking, weights, and had started running! In October my feet were really bothering me and I was diagnosed with plantar's fasciatiis. In February I broke my foot. I no longer have time for working out with my trainer ( he gave up on me), stress and emotional eat, and have now weigh approximately 195 pounds. I am starting this trek once again. Good luck to all you as we get healthy!
1. my history, I basically got chubby when i was around 10 after my parents divorced and ever since then it's been a struggle. It's easier now that I'm older to cope with living on my own and choosing what i surround myself with. Anyways, I'm tired of feeling like i have to live up to look like some sort of porn star to keep a guys attention, so basically screw that, I like the all natural look for woman and that's what I'm sticking to from now on. Obviously I have issues with Society.
2. Um This is my first time using this site, i was on fitday.com. This site is way better and it's nice to read about other peoples struggles with food and weight, it keeps me motivated to know I'm not the only one.
3. Um I'm always looking for new ways to eat more natural, more healthy, and just feel better. Maybe I'll learn something from you guys. ![]()
4. I'm living with my bf right now currently looking for another job that I actually enjoy. I like to write, photography, and keeping in shape. My whole family is on the east coast, I just moved to OR, so I'm adjusting so far.
Thanks for listening. ![]()
HI,
I will introduce myself my answering the questions:
1. History with weight loss: All my life I felt fat: 5'2" hovering around 130. I know, that's not real fat, but the feelings are the same. Then in 2004 I made a lifelong dream trip to Europe, and something changed me. I no longer wanted to overeat. I learned to eat slowly, and to stop the minute I felt the least bit full.
2. History with Calorie Count: Discovered it about 8 months ago and used the logs religiously for about 6 months. Now I maintain at about 102. I love being thin; I can share my daughter's clothes and shop for stylish clothes, something I never used to enjoy doing. But most of all I enjoy eating HEALTHFuL food - I crave fresh vegeables, grains, beans, fruits more than meats.
3. Reason for joining this group: I'm looking for people like me. I'm 64, love to garden and cook and try new delicious and healthful foods. I also love chocolate and permit myself to occasionally cook chocolate mousse, a rich, dark chocolate torte or pots de creme for friends. I can limit myself to 2 ounces and am completely satisfied.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I live with my husband, and we travel frequently to babysit any of our 12 grandchildren in Atlanta, Lakeland, Weston FL. We have 2 cats and get our exercise by extensive gardening. I love to grow as much produce as I can. We enjoy cooking meals with friends. I also love to read, and sew. And I hope to travel again to France, Spain, Italy.
Hi, in my twenties, I tried alot of different diets to keep a moderate weight. As the years have crept up so has the weight. I figure almost ten pounds for every decade. Now, in my forties, I finding losing weight harder.
I stumbled upon CC so here I am. I never did like counting calories but CC makes it look easy. Even if I just get a clearer picture of what I eat, that will help. CC has given me a different way to look at balancing my diet with exercise.
When I have the time, I do cook... but actually, I love to read cook books and watch food TV. I also love try new foods and eat. What I need are fast everyday healthy recipes for lunch and dinner. I've seen some suggestions already.
Sadley, I spend most of my week sitting at a desk. Like most, I wait for the weekend to have fun. My husband's passion is golf, so I hike with a club or I take my sister's yorkie "cruiser" (affectionaly known as"bear bait") for a walk. We have two cats who live like royality. In 4 years, I hope to retire early and enjoy the energy that I still have.
Any ways, enough rambling...cheers
