And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hey. I'm Selena and I'm 17. I cook a TON because my family just loves to deep fry and fatten almost every meal they make, so I volunteer to cook whenever possible so I know what I'm eating.
Most of the healthy things I've been cooking are getting old so I've been looking around for new ideas for healthy low cal meals. I work at a grocery store too, which can have its ups and downs when it comes to trying to stay healthy (all those fatty foods just calling my name! ha) But on the bright side I get a good look at all the different food varieties they have.
Hi there! This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it right. I have been using CC since January and LOVE it. I have lost some weight, and seem to be at a plateau. I'm kicking my butt in the gym and counting every calorie, so I just need to keep plugging away. I LOVE to cook, and am always looking for new recipes to try. I have 3 kids, and my oldest can be so unbelievably picky it can be a chore to feed him, but I keep trying to get him to try new things without much luck!
Male -- 37, midtown Manhattan, joined this group a couple of weeks ago.
I've battled weight all my life, yo-yo-ing between a range of about 80 lbs on two different occasions (and lesser amounts many more times); however, I've been on the heavier side for the last 6-7 years and now I'm at the point in my life when it just has to go, and hopefully for good. Just got some blood tests back that didn't look so good in terms of cholesterol and triglycerides. I'd rather fix it the natural way than become a slave to drugs. So, for me, a diet extremely low in saturated fats and cholesterol is what I'm going for.
I'm a foodie and love eating out a great restaurants and I've learned a number of culinary skills of my own over the years. I'm sure that my love of food has contributed to being heavier.
In my mind, there's healthful eating and weight loss, and then there is "cuisine" and, for me, the twain rarely meet. I've lost 15 lbs since January 1, and have been mostly eating foods that require little preparation (oatmeal, yogurt, nuts and raw fruits and vegetables make up a significant part of my diet). For meats, I'll usually just go to a deli and get some grilled chicken breasts. I do cook fish at home, but that's just because I want to make sure that I know how it's being cooked (fish cooked at restaurants is often cooked with liberal amounts of butter, even if there's no sauce involved).
Hi my name is Cassandra, I'm 29 quickly approaching 30. I started gaining weight after my 3rd child and getting a little to comfortable stopping at Mc Donalds drive thru's. My family and I became so comfortable and it was convenient to just grab something at a fast food restaurant and be on our way. I never had any issues with my weight until the last 6 months. I was one of those goofy girls that would eat a 1/2 dozen of twinkies and not gain a pound. Reality hit me when I realized that my weight was only climbing and my energy was quickly falling. I spotted the lovely "muffin tops" and said somethings gotta change. So in order for me to maintain and be healthy I need all the support I can get and some good pointers on healthy food. Food has always been a way of socializing for me, I have family at my house every Sunday for a meal thats definetly not a healthy one.
1. Hi, my name is Dawn and I'm 26. I've been overweight for most of my adult life. When I was in college, the hectic schedule combined with work didn't help. I have gained and lost and done the yo-yo dieting from Atkins to South Beath to whatever I could try that worked. I currently weigh 215, just about the heaviest I've ever been. The only successful times I've lost weight are counting calories and exercising.
2. This is my first time using Calorie Count and I've only been doing it for 6 days now. I like it so far.
3. I want to be able to cook healthy meals for my family. I don't cook that much right now and I need to start doing things the healthier way in order for me to lose weight. I got married 4 months ago and I want to set good eating patterns for my future children. I also don't want to lose my husband at age 40 due to a heart attack or succomb to diabetes myself (which runs in my family.
4. I work in an office setting and sit at a computer all day. I HATE sitting down all day and since I started working there, I've done nothing but gain weight. I work 50+ hours a week and it's hard to find time to exercise and cook healthy or eat at home at all for that matter. Like I mentioned before, I'm newly married, no kids and no pets. I did join a gym in January and was going on and off until about 2 weeks ago when I started going 3 times a week. Diabetes runs in my family and I'm scared if I don't change my ways, I'll end up with it.
Hi everyone, My Name is Pat I just joined calorie count about a week ago on a whim, thought it might be interesting, most of my life has been dedicated to education (only of myself) and i thought learning what i was putting into my body might be interesting. I am also quite a bit overweight. I have never 'tried' to lose weight I have naturally fluctuated between 250 and 350 for the past ten years and was heavier before that. I love, love, love to cook, and I thought maybe I might pick up some pointers here on how to prepare food a little healthier, I think my biggest downfall in the kitchen is my sodium intake directly followed by the amount of fat I use. I work hard every day, I work in a warehouse type setting, loading and unloading trucks and moving freight around, all by hand, no fork trucks or anything so I stay pretty active... well I guess I have rambled on a bit. so that's me.
Hi! My Name is Andrea. I just joined yesterday. My hubby was going in for a new job that required an agility test he didn't think he could pass, so after velntine's day he bought us gym memberships. I figured that i should do more than just go to the gym, but should work on eating better.
I've never been good with diets. I try to watch what i eat, and how much. But after eating my g-ma's twig and berry diets foods as a kid i never wanted to consider the "fad" diests.
I'm brand new to calorie counting. hopeing it will help to realise how much i'm taking in vs working off. i wanted to join this group for support on healthier eating/cooking habits.
I unfortunatly work in an office environment, so exercize is always a problem. I'm sedentary during the day, and after a commute have a hard time dragging myself to the Gym. Getting better though. Made it 3 times already this week (2 over the weekend, but tuesday was good!) I'm married, with no kids but we do have a yellow lab that is basicly a teenager at this point. Working to keep him healthy as much as myself. I'm also odd in that i'm 25 and love to sew, crochet, quilt and bake. anyway, thats myself in a nutshell.
Hi!
I am 24 years old, am new to calorie counting and I'm trying to make healthier food choices. I work a Monday to Friday job and usually go to the gym after work so when I get home it can get fairly late and then of course I have to think of something to make for supper...it can be quite frustrating. I LOVE to eat, and I like to cook but I have a hard time thinking up meal ideas that are healthy and quick, so I end up ordering pizza or throwing some chicken fingers and fries into the oven...a big no, no. And I have to admit that when I'm hungry and I can't think of anything to eat, I tend to get quite grouchy!! Kudos to my boyfriend for putting up with me when I'm hungry (he actually thinks it's quite funny...which of course makes me even grouchier, lol)!
I have started putting together my own cookbook with "healthier" recipes I've found off the internet, but any recipes anyone would like to contribute would be fantastic. I love chicken, stir fry, rice, pasta and soups. I have actually been looking for a good Chicken Lemon Rice soup recipe for ever and haven't been able to find one. Oh, and I have recently discovered asparagus and, OMG, why haven't I been introduced to this veggie sooner...I love it!! So any recipes with asparagus is considered A+ material!
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm loving this website so far! I've just learned that my favorite sub from Quizno's is almost 1000 calories!!! I used to choose Quizno's over other fast food restaurants because I thought it was a healthy choice. I sure am learning a lot...and I look forward to learning more!
Cheers,

Hi there! Pastry chef/baker in training here... uh oh! Don't worry, I won't post anything too tormenting ;)
1. History with weight loss: Not much of any at all, I've been lucky with my genes and I've always had a healthy lifestyle. I like to eat healthy (for the most part) and stay fairly active.
2. History with Calorie Count: Just found it on google, actually. I was eating a huge bowl of cornflakes and was wondering how many calories/carbohydrates are in them... so i google searched "corn flakes nutrition information" and this site came up. Shorty after, I came upon a recipe someone posted for Lentil loaf!! so I thought it would be in my best interest to join :)
3. Reason for joining this group: I love cooking. It's kind of what I do. And I need something low-calorie/low-fat at home after spending all day making breads and pies!
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I go to the california culinary academy, specializing in patisserie and baking. I love LOVE LOVE making breads- all types- and especially now that Im in san francisco I have the wonderful sourdoughs to work with! I live with my darling boyfriend and his cat, and my bearded dragon in beautiful San Francisco.

Hi Clarelaine
I actually joined the group for the recipes and ideas. We recently came out with our own website. The site helps parents to feed their kids healthier school/camp lunches. We created a simple gadget that keeps food warm for several hours. It allows for warm food to be packed at home and keep it warm until lunchtime in school or camp. Our site can be found at www.WARMABLES.com. We also offer weekly recipes and tips. And that is why signed up. I can never have too many recipes!
Happy cooking to all of you! hinwil
Hi everyone,
I have recently joined Calorie Count and am really happy to have found it. I love to cook and I love food. I'm about 30 pounds over weight and never had a weight problem until 4 years ago when I had a seriouse back injury.
Here is a little about me..
I never thought my eating habits were that bad and if left to my own, I generally make good food choices, I just do a lot of emotional eating. Looking back i can see I got in a habit of rewarding myself with food. (I worked hard today. I should let myself splurge)
I LOVE to cook and people love my cooking. One of my favorite things is putting on a good meal for a bunch of my family and friends. I started a relationaship shortly before my injury that I think has not been healthy for my food choices.
My partner likes comfort food and I like to please him. Since I generaly eat whatever I'm cooking for others rather than making my own food, I end up eating less healthy than I know I should.
So I am putting my cooking creativity to the test by looking for ways to make his favorites in a way that will by healthier for both of us.
I look forward to learning and sharing with all of you.
Hi All,
I'm new to Calorie Count. I heard about it from a friend in Yoga class. I Joined because I'm looking to loose the weight I put on moving to a new country (Canada from the US). And also to return to the healthier lifestyle I used to have when I was more social and less stressed.
I'm a real foodie. I love to experiment in the kitchen but these days my recipe box definitely needs a bulk up in the healthy department!
Hi! I am a college student looking for healthy, quick, recipes. Being both a full-time student and full-time waitress, it's hard for me to want to come home and cook something intense. I usually favor Mac & Cheese or a bowl of cereal- sad I know.
I love cooking and my boyfriend would love for me to do it more often. Things are slowing down with school and work so now I have the time!
I struggled with eating disorders during my first year in college. I started using calorie count during that time and was only consistant for about a month. I'm back after a couple years and am hoping to stick to it! I joined this group to learn, and hopefully share, some healthy recipes.
Have you visited the Recipes Forum yet? You'll get lots of great suggestions, especially from all our college students. You're not alone.
Hi there everyone!!! I just joined the group today, and am excited to be here.
I am here becuase I am interesed in new, healthy recipes that my boyfriend and I will enjoy.
Just over a year ago I was on a diet through a local weightloss clinic. I lost 35 pounds. Since then, I lost my job and put on 40 pounds. Looking for a healthy way to get the weight off. I am 5'7" and currently weigh 178 pounds. Of couse the extra weight causes problems for my back and knees. Thighs in hot, humid weather. Looking forward to shedding the pounds!!!
My name is Lori, I am 44 years old. I have a 22 year old son. I live with my boyfriend and his 18 year old son. Together we have 3 dogs.
I am looking forward to meeting people in this group, and hopefully, eventually sharing recipes!!!
&nb sp; Lori
Wow, I am a little shorter than lolo1964, 5'6" and I weigh 175 lbs and I am looking to lose 35 lbs. Maybe we can help each other! I have been at CC for a week and I love it. I'm hoping to work on a eating plan of 1200 calories a day-as perscribed by my dr-and I like the easy access to this site.
I love, love, love to cook and because of food allergies I have a lot of ideas for cooking and I need more!!! I'm a difficult person to feed because of allergies and eating out is really hard so hopefully if I share some ideas, others will have ideas for me to.
I hope I meet some interesting people with some great cooking ideas! My first one seems so easy but several of my friends hadn't tried it and they love it as an idea to get in 2 cups of fruit.
Fruit Smoothie
2 cups of frozen fruit ( I go to Costco and get the bags of strawberries, berry mix, or mango--about $10 a bag in California)
1 to 1-1/2 cups of water(depending on the consistency you want)
sweetner(I use splenda to the sweetness level I like)
2 cups of strawberries is 100 calories; 2 cups of mango or mixed berries is 110 calories
Blend in a blender or chef's chopper by Kitchen--little chopper and easy to clean. It comes out slushy because the fruit is frozen (no need for ice). The fruit is so good and flavorful and although yogurt and stuff can be added that adds calories and my goal with this was to get in 2 cups of fruit to my day and make it easy and yummy!
Hi everyone! my name is juliet. i am pleased to find this website as i would love to improve on my cooking skills (esp learning to cook healthier recipes). my husband is allergic to msg and it has always been a constant battle for me and cooking.
