I'm a 44 year old female.  I have been thin all of my life, but I have found since progressing into my forties all the things I used to eat, whether they were good or bad for me just seem to hang around more than they should - as in a little extra weight.  I feel that I would like to lose around 10 lbs.  My daugher (23) sent me the link to this website.  I just became a new member yesterday and really am having a blast with it.  Communicating with new people already.  So many things on here that are of interest to me.  My more important goal is to become healthier physically.  My mother passed away when I was 26 at age 56.  She was way too young.  I quit smoking over 20 years ago.  She smoked for many years.  My husband and I try to eat heathly for the most part.

My reason for joining this group.  I love to cook.  I love cookbooks ( I have about 50 right now) and love getting new ones.  The Food Channel is my favorite.  I like Tyler Florence, Paula Dean and Ina Garten.  Paula uses way too much butter, but she is hilarious to watch.  Such a Southern Gal.

I like to try new dishes - I like cooking all the old home favorites.  Now that my children are grown I can experiment more with my cooking because I don't have to deal with any fussy eaters.  My husband will eat just about anything I put in front of him.  Correction he will eat anything I put in front of him LOL.

I want to be one of those people who really gets into exercise, but I just seem to talk myself out of it all the time.  I'm working on that motivation.  I have a cat and her name is Riley.  I love her to death.  She makes me happy because she loves to sit on my lap in the evening when I come home from work.  This helps me to avoid going outside and doing anything.  Not such a good thing :).

I work as a Court Clerk for a Judge.  Very interesting job.  I love it and have been doing this for close to 10 years now.  I have 2 children in college and I attend college myself.  You know lead by example.  If Mom can go to work full-time and go to school in the evening so can you.  It's working.  My children are awesome and I am very proud of them both.

My husband and I have a boat that we spend every weekend on throughout the summer.  He thinks that I look great at 44.  He tells me I'm HOT.  Really he has thought I looked great at any age.  Everyday he tells me that I look beautiful to him.  Even when I look like something the cat has just drug in from the rain.  He is so sweet to me.  We have been married for almost 24 years and this is the best time of my life.

My goal is to become an even more rounded person.  Exercising, eating right and emotional fulfilled.  I have 2 of the 3 going.  I need help with the exercising.

Hi,

I am a 55 yr old  female reading teacher who lives on LI, NY but works  in NYC.  Weight has been an issue for most of my adult life, I was thin as a bride 34 yrs ago, but as I got older, the pounds just crept up.  I am now at my all time highest weight, which , needless to say, has caused several health and personal issues.  I want to lose 100 lbs so my BMI will be 25. I joined Weight Watchers last month and, thankfully, I have lost about 10 lbs so far.  It is really effortless to follow and  I am learning how to chart my points  and make wise food choices.  I realize this is a going to take  along time, but I am very positive about losing this weight.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to cook, so the fun part will be finding new, healthy recipes,

On a personal note, I am married and my husband and I are empty nesters, because our grown daughter and son are college grads and are living on their own. I love to watch baseball, read, do crossword puzzles, surf the web and listen to LOUD classic rock music ( child of the 60s, what can I say?).

Basically, I want to learn how to eat and live healthier, find yummy recipes to make my weight loss journey more fun, and begin to ultimately feel better physically and mentally.

I am a 23 year old, currently a Food Service Specialist 3rd class, in the Coast Guard. I'm stationed in Alameda, CA, although I'm originally from Austin, TX.

When I was actively cooking on my ship (USCGC Morgenthau for 3 years) I had such a stressful schedule (18 hour days on my feet in combat boots, cooking 4 meals a day for 180 personnel) that when the time came to sit down and eat a meal (after the galley was all cleaned up) I would have little appetite, so I would just snack a little, drink lots of water (being sandwiched between a 350 degree oven, and a 350 degree griddle, in the tropics, on a moving ship will dehydrate you pretty bad) smoke a cigarette, and get back to work.

I was also suffering from anxiety attacks pretty regularly, so I wasn't getting much rest either. I lost a lot of weight (too much in my opinion) going from a healthy 130lbs (I'm 5'4") to an unhealthy 117lbs.

I hated it, so I started eating more, and eventually got stationed on Coast Guard Island. I now work a desk job, and my metabolism has responded by slowing down considerably.

I currently weigh about 155, and while I'm not obese, I would like to get back to 130. I found this website while looking for a BMI calculator, and decided to join.

I'm now waiting to get medically discharged from the Coast Guard (for said anxiety issues, in addition to depression and PTSD) and am trying to motivate myself and lose weight.  When I get out, I plan to use my G.I. Bill to pay for a degree in Culinary Arts (hopefully from C.I.A) and become a professional chef in the civilian sector.

Back home in Texas, I have an identical twin sister who weighs 200+ lbs. I don't want to end up like that. I love her to death, but I have a lot more dicipline than that. (I hope anyway) My mother is also overweight, so I'm fighting genetics, and my metabolism. I know they say never to trust a skinny cook, but I'd like to be a healthy cook.

I've found that if I only eat until I'm no longer hungry (not til I'm full) I have an easier time of things, but I was brought up by my family to "clean my plate" and I've been doing that far too often.

I have been actively cooking since I was 12, and have been through several nutrition schools with the Coast Guard. Let me know if you want ideas for how to cook things. I have lots of experience!

Hi there, I thought I would join this group because I love to cook.

Most nights I cook from scratch for myself and my 3 girls. The 2 older ones (12 & 6) are really starting to take an interest in whats for tea and how I'm going to cook it tonight!

As my interest in cooking grew so did I so now I'm finding how to reduce the calorie count in my favourite recipes and at the same time trying to ensure that my girls learn to cook healthy, nutritious, delicious food.

I've been with CC for a couple of months now and have lost 10lb so far, only another 60 to go!

When I'm not cooking I like to garden, especially growing my own produce (very mixed results so far!). I also like knitting, sewing and reading.

Hi everyone,

I'm 24 year old female, married about a year and a half, and looking for some healthy but tasty and filling recipes to make for my husband and myself.  We don't have any children, and we work full-time, so free time is always at a premium.  We're both looking to lose some weight (20-50 lbs) and be more health concious.  Any tips or recipes you have to share would be most appreciated!

If you're in the same boat as us, send me an email and we can go through some of these challenges together Smile
