Welcome to the Group

Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:

1. History with weight loss:
2. History with Calorie Count:
3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

And now just go ahead and make that first post!

1. History with weight loss: I've never really had to go on a real diet before... Ive never been super skinny, but Ive never been "overweight" either. When I broke up with my ex 3 and a half years ago I was overweight, but it was because I was so unhappy. When I moved out of the apartment we shared I stopped drinking soda and didnt have any fast food and the weight seemed to fall right off of my. Now Im getting married to James, and I am so happy... so Ive gained a little weight for the opposite reason, Im happy and so comfortable in our relationship. The wedding day is fast approaching, March 7th, and Im not looking to lose a ton of weight, because Im not that much heavier than what is normal for me, but it is enough to make me a little self conscience. I want to drop a pant size or two (two would be great because thats where I was when James and I met).
2. History with Calorie Count: I just joined and started this week! I'm doing really good, and found that I have had a pretty good base for my eating habits. I havent had to change what I eat really, Ive just had to stop snacking... the sugar is what is killing me!!
3. Reason for joining this group: I really want to learn some more yummy, low-cal recipes... Im a good cook, but have a small amount of recipes in my cooking arsenal because I am young... so I figure, the best place to start to build up my recipes is healthy!
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:I am a very Irish girl... in fact, after I get married in March I will be the official color of St. Patrick's Day (Kelly Green Lol). Im 23 and bubbly and optimistic, which can get on James' nerves sometimes Haha... We have two dogs, and they are our kids... they are Siberian Huskies, Sedona (2 Year Old Female) and Chinook (4 month old male), they are so much fun and we walk them 3 miles everyday because they are so full of energy! I work for a franchisee of Denny's restaurants as the office assistant.. I sit around a lot all day, but I walk across the complex to the mailbox and I really enjoy that. Luckily we dont have a location nearby, so I dont get fat off of pancakes... Lol! Im really kind of a tomboy at heart... I love camping and big trucks to go 4-wheeling out in the desert! I will wear a shirt and jeans with skater shoes long before I pick out the dress and heels. Im really laid back and just enjoy hanging out. I love beer (which I havent had since Christmas Eve thanks to this stupid diet) but I have started finding wines that I like, which is nice because its better for me. I enjoy going to sports games (football, hockey, basketball... not baseball though, so boring!) although I have never really been that good at playing them.

Anywho, I babbled, sorry!! I wish you all the best of luck on your journey to living healthier!

~Kelly :)

Hi! Here's a bit about me...

1. History with weight loss: dieted and excercise abot 6 years back and lost about 10 lbs in a month or so but more importantly lost 11inches! but since put it on again.....fast forward to 3 years ago I went away to a place where my meals were STRICKLY controlled and I wasn't allowed to shop for myself, cook or go near fast food and lost about 20 lbs in a couple months, put it back on over the last few years being back home.

2. History with Calorie Count: found the site about a year ago and CAN'T AT ALL follow a 1500 calorie diet....not to save my life! But I started using it again trying a higher than recommended cal count and gonna ween myself down.

3. Reason for joining this group: I've recently discovered that I LOVE TO COOK!!!! I love using fresh ingrediants and cooking beautiful VERY tasty meals. A have some great recipes I've found in my travels and I want to share them as well as learning more!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: You can call me Nina, I'm 29 and work at a tux rental shop. It's very boring and I spend all day screwing around online. I would like to go to the gym more but I REALLY need a workout buddy but can't find one around here.

Hi! My name is Abby and I am 21 years old. I am not really looking to lose a lot of weight just maintain what I am. Plus I ordered the Bender Ball to help get my abs in shape. That is my main problem is that I am a college student and I do like to go out with my friends and I do have a problem with eating when I am bored. If I lost 5 to 10 pounds that would be ok with me but if I stayed the same weight and just got more into shape and start eating healthier I think it will make me a lot happier. :)

I am so glad that I found this website and I really hope to make some friends or at least some people to talk to so I can be held accountable with counting my caleries! :)

Hi! My name is Mary and I am 25 years old looking for some ideas to revamp my eating habits. I have been on this website for about a year now. I was really good with it for the better half of 08 but fell off when I had to get a second job. So since we all get a fresh start, I thought about giving CC another go.

I look forward to learning about all the new recipes! :)

SurprisedI'm Janet, 61 years old. I've lost 50 lbs. twice. Now that I'm older it's harder than ever. Hard to exercise with arthritis. I used to walk it off, but now I can't.  I need to lose some weight for my health.

I need ew LIGHT recipes!

Hi, my name is Tammy.  I've been trying to lose weight forever...or so it seems.  Cry  I've actually been a member of Calorie Count and have recommended it to many many people since early 2007.  While I've used it from time to time, I've never used ALL the tools available and I've never used it consistently.  Until NOW.

I've discovered that I need to design my own diet plan - that's why I've never remained consistent for long on any diets in the past.  My husband is in construction and is totally thin and fit.  With other diets I had to make my bland low calorie food (those things suggested on my diet) for me, then turn around and make something else for him.  FINALLY - I've realized that's not the case...there are tons of delicious low calorie recipes out there that my husband would love.  All I need to do is add a bit of multi-grain bread and a baked potatoe to his meal to add calories and we are fine. So now I'm on a mission to find MORE of those recipes.  I LOVE TO COOK - so dieting has suddenly become much more fun.

I've been happliy married 28 years, have two grown and successful sons, one extremely spoiled and also overweight beagle Innocent And two adorable cats.

For years I have struggled with weight issues, but things

became worse after having quit smoking nearly 9 years ago.

The weight has snowballed on me, ballooning

totally out of control.  I have made a step in the right

direction, I think, by joining CC recently.  I need a few basic

low-cal recipes that I can make that DH & I can stand to

eat with some frequency.  I am hoping that you are all

much more experienced than I at balancing fats, sodium, carbs, etc.

I need a lot of help creating healthier menus, I fear.  LOL

Hiya everyone,

Im Vicky, just joined today, mainly cuz i thought that if I count how many calories I am taking in it will motivate me to eat more healthily, because I am sure I eat too much! I have always been classed as slim by my friends, but since going to uni and being with my boyfriend I have put on some weight. Id love to lose it from my arms, stomach and thighs. Apparantly I need a calorie intake of 1700 to lose weight, hopefully that seems manageable!

I have usually not had a problem mainting a good weight until I turned 30.  Now my body does what it wants.  I am married to a guy who wants to lose weight as well but doesn't seem as motivated as I am.  It is hard work to try and find good food to make that WE will like and that is low in calories.  I struggle daily. If there isn't somethat I can eat that already has the nutrition label on it...I am not sure what I am eating calorie wise.  I look forward to learning some good and healthy food to eat. If I can get the food down (plus get my husband to like it too) then that will be half the battle!!!

Hi, I'm Melanie.  I'm 46 and for the first time in my life, I'm having to look at my weight.  I'm heaviest now at 140 since having my daughter in 1987!  Most is belly fat!  So I'm new at counting calories and have found this site helpful so far.  I'm beginning to workout at the gym with my boyfriend some on the elliptical and a little weight lifting, but I need to do more.

Also, I'm going through menopause, starting with hot flashes about a year ago.  If anyone has any experience with mood changes associated with menopause and helpful information, would love to hear from you.  I think my recent weight gain has been emotional eating.

Looking forward to being involved!!

hey, I'm Veronica,

I'm 30 years old and i have had weight issues since i was 16 years old!

My biggest problem is not having a big selection of whats good for u recipes!

I have always counted my calories but not something i have ever had much luck with but nothing works for me anyways so whats it gonna hurt if i just keep trying right?

I am a mother of 2 that i had a section with both and find it so hard to lose weight.. I watch what i eat and try to get to the gym as much as possible which isn't that possible when having 2 very active boys  5 and 2!!

I find myself craving something sweet late late at night at like between 2 and 5am?

Does anyone else ever have these cravings ? It horrible cause i can do great all day and then once bedtime comes and i get up through the night for anything and thats all that is on my mind!! And it stays till i find something and then i go to bed feeling like crap cause i gave in!!

thanks

Veronica

Hi my name is Laura,

I am 28 5"4' and 169 lbs.  I have a full time desk job and I go to school at night.  I have tried all the fad diets and pills but I know the only thing that works is exercise and eating right.  I have a gym membership but I haven't gone recently since I've been unmotivated.  I use to do Weight Watchers which I loved but thinking about what I eat every second of the day and not knowing if I was going to lose weight or not drove me crazy.

I joined Calorie Counter because I figure since I'm at work, where I do most my eating; I could use their helpful tools to see what food is beneficial and what isn't.

All I know is I can’t expect results instantly and that I'm tired of being over weight.  I use to weigh 145 lbs (post Weight Watchers) and I want to be back at that weight.  I have a goal of 145 lbs by 8/1/09, so I just have to stop over eating and start working out...wish me luck!

Hi! I'm Sophie,

I'm 5"7 and 155lbs, i've gained a 'spare tyre' round my waist since quitting smoking at christmas and since i've been living with my partner who loves his food and loves me to bake things for him (but never seems to gain any weight!).

I'm at uni and have had months of coursework so have been sitting at a desk but have rejoined the gym today and would like to loose the extra bit before summer!

I have trouble sticking to watching what i eat, and i'm a student so there is lots of alcohol always available, i must be strong!!!

I'd love to be able to cook things for me and my partner than he loves and that help me lose weight!

Hope you're all well!!

Hello, I'm Ayda

I am 46yo mother of 2 boys, 19year old in college and 3 year old in preschool, no it wasn't planned but love being a mom.i own my own business and finally am able to RELAX(LOL) and enjoy life. Well i have enjoyed it way to much as seen by my waist line.

I have always been overweight, and have always had to workout to keep weight gain at a minimum. Well childbirth at age 43 and of course menopause thrown in, my fat refuses to let go.

i joined CC about 1 month ago and love the grading system for my daily eating, and also the weight tracking and exercise.the reason I joined this group is for new recipes that do not include frying, or high fat stuff. I'm especially looking for lowfat muffins as i eat on the run alot, chaso=ing my 3 year old LOL.

Have a great day

Ayda

Hello...I have watched my weight since I was in the 6th grade and Charlie B. told my girlfriend he would go out with me if I would lose some weight.  So that was the beginning of my dieting (I'm now 60).  Keeping motivated is my main problem and exercising regularly.  I have 7 children and a wonderful husband.  One college age daughter still lives at home.  I would love to share healthy recipes vegetarian like recipes.

Hello, my name is Stacy.  I'm 26, 5'8" and around 131 lbs. I'm trying to maintain my weight and lead a healthy lifestyle. I joined Calorie Count so that I could keep track of exactly what I was eating. Although I am thin, I have high blood pressure. I feel like I was eating a lot of junk food, and with Calorie Count, I can maintain my weight and check that what I am eating is healthy.

I also recently read a great book, called "The China Study", which really opened my eyes to nutrition. It ties a lot of diseases (high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc) to consumption of animal based foods. I have never thought of becoming a vegitarian before, but after reading the book, I have been trying to cut out meat and animal based foods from my diet, such as milk, eggs, cheese, etc, and to cook/eat healthier meals. (I don't think I will ever banish animal based foods completely from my diet, but hopefully I can limit the amount I eat). I am always interested in healthy recipes and I love cooking! That is my reason for joining the group.

Things about me: I'm recently married! My husband and I love to travel (especially to the beach). I'm originally from St. Louis, MO, where my fam still lives, but now I live outside of Washington D.C.

Hi, my name is Michele and I have had ups and downs with my weight all my life.  I am only 5'2" and at one time weighted 190 but through a lot of hard work got down to 130.  I then gained some weight after I quit smoking and was back up to 150.  Last year I lost 16 pounds to 134, and here I am again at 148.  I hope to loose weight and find a better maintenance routine.
