And now just go ahead and make that first post!
I know, right! I probably shouldn't be talking about those on here! X)
Newfoundland is a beautiful place, we just had a first big snowfall here today and it's gorgeous! But I won't be saying that in May when it's still snowing here! haha!
Some of family lives in Ottawa, and they've been getting pounced with snow!
We got our real first snow a couple of days ago. However they are forecasting a really nasty one starting tonight thru Friday!! Oh Joy ~ Be safe folks!!!
Hi,
I'm Diana, just recently moved away from my family to central ontario. I seem to have always been dieting, but have never successfully lost and kept the weight off. I have tried lots of diets, and find they dont work. I need to make a lifestyle change by just eating healthy...no more garbage
I decide to join this group to meet people from my area, who are looking for motivation in the weight loss goals, and who can help me achieve my goals for 2009. I really am focused this year, and i know i am going to loose my last 15 pounds for good.
I moved to the Barrie area from windsor, for its beautiful atmosphere, clean lake, running trails, and for snowboarding. My 16 month old black lab, Putz loves it here as well. I moved away from my sister who is my best friend and running partner. I have had a hard time getting back into running, and being motivated to eat healthy. I need to get back on track today, so i will have the results i want by the summer.
I would love any weight loss tips, mantras, and motivation.
thanks
Hello all:
My name is Michelle and I have lost 20 lbs so far. I started off at 200lbs and am now down to 180. I have wanted, wished, yearned not to be fat for many many years and have stopped and started along the way so many times I've lost count! This summer I started again with walking and tracking my calories on a spreadsheet and was losing pretty steadily until recently. I keep hitting plateaus that are really frustrating because I am working so hard at this. No BS.
I have been at this same weight now for over a month. So I starting going to my community health centre, increased my activity level by 30 mins (total of 1 hour workout now) and it's still not budging. Anyway, I keep telling myself I must be getting fitter even if I'm not losing lbs on the scale but I am afraid I will eventually give up on this so I'm here hoping to gain support. My doctor tells me that at my age (44) I have to expect it to be harder to lose but I feel if I listen to him I'll be tempted to say to heck with it and pack it in!
Anyway that's my story.
1. History with weight loss: Most of it is in my Bio, however, I've pretty much had issues with my weight since I was a teenager. My weight has been up and down my whole adult life, but I've never really been extremely overweight. I have never been on a real weight loss program until now. I used to get to a weight I wasn't happy with, and then I'd just eat well, and exercise, and the weight would come off. I'd only take off small amounts though. I kinda like being a voluptuous woman. I hit 197 pds, realized I was FAT, and decided to finally try a real diet. It's working, and I'm hoping to continue.
2. History with Calorie Count: I joined in September of this year. Actually, I think I joined a few years ago, but never really used the site. I just started becoming active a few days ago, cause I thought I needed a boost.
3. Reason for joining this group: I'm from Kingston, ON. Wanted to meet some fellow fatties in the area!!
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm a correctional officer with a hectic work schedule. I have a wonderful partner, and a time consuming teenage daughter. I have 3 cats, and a snake. I'm interested in traveling, camping, entertaining, reading, music, just hanging out with cool people.
I guess that's about it! Feel free to message me. I'm new to the site, kinda. I need friends!! Puleeze!! I'm awesome! People like me!!
Welcome! I went to Queen's back in the day, and love love love Kingston. I'm in Ottawa these days. I hope you'll like CC as much as I do. I've been here for about six weeks and have lost 28 lbs so far. Most of the first part was water weight, but I am now fitting into all sorts of old clothes and I'm feeling fantastic.
You can do this! One of the great things about weight loss is that we are in control of the process. It's not like heart disease or other maladies in that all we need to do is eat less and move more and the weight will come off. Avoid fad diets and quick fixes. You are on a journey, not running a race. The best way to do it is to get in the groove of counting calories and eating about 500 less than your body needs to maintain, and work-out to burn a few more.
Good Luck!
Mike
Thanks for the "welcome" Mike. I am enjoying the site thus far. Congrats on your progress! Believe me, 28 pds is not even close to being water weight! Don't sell yourself short. I'm getting back into the groove after a brief hiatus. I know that fad diets are just that, fads. I'm all about eating healthy, and exercising, and not denying myself the occasional pig-out session.
Keep in Touch!
P.j.
Hey,
I'm new here on CC, but I'm not new to weight loss. Last summer I got mono right at the end of my school year (late march-april), and got so tired of the freshman 10 that I gained, not to mention laying about all day, that as soon as I felt better I put my shoulder to the grindstone. I worked all summer and lost 25 lbs by September. Since then I've done nothing but maintain my weight loss (and maybe gain a little bit back over the holidays), and now I'm ready to lose some more.
I joined this group because I'm interested in losing weight with some of my fellow Canadians.
I live in a house with a three house mates and my boyfriend, while I go to university full time. I'm 19, going on 20 this year, weigh 152.8 lbs (as of now), and am 5"4', or 165cm. I like jogging, but I'm worried about my knees, and I've decided to put more emphasis on my nutrition and diet this year rather than just exercise - which is how I lost weight the first go-around.
So far, I'm really enjoying calorie counting - I think it gives you a ton of flexibility with your diet (I still eat chocolate :P), and lets you really analyze what you're putting in your body.
I'm hoping to meet a couple of people I can keep in correspondence with so that we can encourage each other to do well every day, support each other when we're not, and hold each other accountable for our efforts and weight-loss.
:) Best of luck!
Hi Puchikokum ~ Welcome to our Group!!!
Sorry to hear about the Mono ~ my son had it when he was in Grade 8 and I know how tired one gets! Glad you're on the mend. What part of Ontario are you from?
Original Post by puchikokun:
Just outside of Toronto (the GTA), but now I'm living in south-western ontario.
Oh
We could be neighbours.... I live in SW Ont too!
Hello all
I'm from Ottawa, but have relocated to Cornwall for the year - took a sabbatical from work to get healthy again...or maybe for the first time.
Here's my history: I hit puberty and exploded. I was 14, 5'0" and 230+. I grew nearly 10 inches the summer between 14 and 15 and went down to 160. But I'm a classic closet binger and through the years managed to gain over 110 lbs. I peaked at 26 at 5'10" and 270 lbs+ (my scale wouldn't go higher).
I lost 83 lbs but got sick and gained a lot back (because I felt sorry for myself because I was sick). Now I'm 233 lbs and I'm on the journey again.
Excited about it. I remember how I felt at 187, and can't wait to feel that again. Partly seeing a "1" in front of my weight, but also the endorphin highs from exercising.
I'm new to Calorie Count, and I'm looking forward to any support I can get. I did my first journey with my sister in law, but now I am doing this alone.
So say hello anytime. I've a good ear for listening and I can promise silliness when needed.
Hi everyone,
I am from Etobicoke, ON (on the Lake Shore not far from Toronto), but I am originally from Milton which is a super small town! I just ran across this forum and thought it would be very beneficial to my weight loss effort...mainly because it offers a way to track my food vs. my calories burned. I think a lot of my problem is because I have no idea just how bad the food I'm eating is!
To answer those questions:
1. History with weight loss: I've always been a healthy weight, and only in the last 5 years or so have I wanted to drop a few pounds to feel better about myself.
2. History with Calorie Count: Brand new!
3. Reason for joining this group: To be assist me in monitoring my weight loss and try to keep up on a food journal.
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm a professional photographer so I spend a lot of time at home on the computer retouching (weddings, boudoir, families & more), I'm engaged to a wonderful guy named Justin (hence my nickname), and we love British music (I'm a BIG Oasis fan).
I'm glad to be a new member here and I hope to get to know you guys!
Hey there,
I am from near Oshawa, ON. I am a single dad, 38 years old , with three children who live with me full time. They are the main reason I started this quest. First of all, I want to live as long as possible (for them and of course myself) and secondly I want to show them that with hardwork and dedication - anything can be achieved!
History with weight loss: I have always been a bigger guy and any time I have tried to lose weight, I was good for 20 lbs only to gain it right back after just not having the determination to continue. But something clicked this time around and everything feels different...I started on Jan 5th @ 313lbs, and 8 weeks later have lost 62lbs. My goal is 199lbs and then take it from there. I have changed my lifestyle alot with nutritional eating, and ALOT of exercise - the garage has been so cold the last couple of months!
History with Calorie Count: I joined the site back in Feb, to check some food values, but really took a good look at the site today.
Reason for joining this group: Hopefully it will give me the motivation to make it to my goal. Also, it is kinda neat to join something 'local'.
Hey Everyone, I'm Emma. I'm from North Bay, ON. I've gained about twenty pounds in my 4 years of university, (I'm taking Nursing), turns out I haven't been a "starving student". Anyway now that I'm just about done and summer's coming I want to get rid of it. I used this site in september/october and lost 10lbs! but i gained it all back because I didn't stick with it. But this time I really hope to make permanent lifestyle changes. My dog is also going on a diet with me (the vet says hes overweight), so I have a buddy, but i could use some more :)
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
