And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hello! I'm new here. I am a 58 year old woman with C.O.P.D. I quit smoking in March of 07 and gained 60 lbs. I have been fighting up and down since then. I joined CC in 08 I believe. I left for awhile and came back because I find it motivates me. Like today I was going to have and ice cream cone after eating a healthy yogurt. Decided to see who was out here. I live in Scarbrough and don't get out much because of my breathing. I just got a walker to push my oxygene instead of dragging it. Hopefully I'll get in shape to walk some around my area.
Hi..My name is Dawn (Storme is my middle name) and i am soon to be 47. I have been married to many years to Kirk....i am grateful to say that he is very supportive and "thinks that i am beautiful and sexy as i am". My goal right now is to come to believe him. Kind of sad, eh? (now you really know that I am Canadian!!)
We have 2 sons, 24 and 19 and currently no pets. I live in the Waterloo region.
Never had a problem with my weight when i was younger...after my first child was born, i bounced right back...no problem. After my second child was born, i really struggled to get back to "normal"...I did in fact get there a few times over the years, but never stayed there.
I am a exercise yoyo. I have a pretty healthy diet...its just excessive. We are very social, we entertain alot, and are almost empty nesters....we enjoy hosting dinner parties...of course, the wine, the desserts, etc ...you know the rest, i am sure.
recently, i bought Jillian Michaels book.....'Making the cut'...its for people that never seem to loose that last 20 pounds...thats me right now, and has been for quite a long time. I find myself starting to creep up and then i get a little more "strict" with myself...perhaps loose 5 pounds, then right back.
I was online looking for a calorie value for some food and this site came up. It seemed so great, so I joined. Since last Monday, i have been faithful at logging my food, counting my calories (currently at 1440 per day, suggested by the book that i am reading) and excercising. Yea me!!
My business partner has joined as well, we are a good support for each other which is sooooo helpful at work. We are surrounded by 20 and 30 somethings that are always bring in "treats', etc, which is really diffucult. It is easier when we are accountable to each other.
Anyway...glad to be here....feeling motivated and happy to exchange thoughts and ideas with others to help each of us reach out goals!!
I try every day to feel the feeling that being thin feels like!!! It makes me feel great!!
Have a great day all and healthy eating!!
Hello all my name is Christal :)
Here is a little about me:
1) I have had a weight issue since i was around 12 (so more than half my life). I have gained and lost and gained and lost significantly twice before this last attempt. The first time when I was 16 and the second before I got married in 06. Both times i lost 20-30 lbs but each time it came back. I never made the lifestyle change i just dieted. The end of December of 07 i got on the scale and it read 289lbs. I just about fell over. How did I let myself get to that point. So on January 1 2008 I committed to changing my life. I started going to the gym and eating better. To this point i have lost 70lbs (then i gained a few back while on summer vacation). My short term goal is to be at 199lbs by Jan 1 2010, and to hit my goal weight by the following Jan.
2) I am a newbie for calorie count but it looks like a good tool to help track eating and exercise.
3) I joined the website to get some help. Since I went on vacation this summer I have just not been able to get myself back under control. I joined this group because I am looking to offer support and get support in this journey. I know that support is key as is accountability and I am hoping to find both here with a group of people who are facing the same thing as me.
4) I live in eastern Ontario with my husband and 2 wonderful kids (6 & 2). I work for a bank and I love it. We love to hike and camp as a family and finally got to see our beautiful country (to the west) this year. We drove west across Canada for our summer vacation. Yah 2 1/2 weeks in a Suzuki swift with a hubby and 2 small kids, driving just short of 10,000km. :) Honestly though it was great fun.
So there is a little about me.
Hi my Name is Kimberley,
I live in Stratford. Yes the beautiful festival city. I am 33 and have had a struggle with my weight for most of my double digit life. I have had five children four of which are living. ranging in ages 11years to 20 months old. I drive school bus and have a home based cake decorating business.
I joined this group hoping to connect with others in my area.
That's all I have for now my son is having naptime issues. So gotta go!!
Hi, My name is Maria and have joined this group tonight. Am currently living in Kincardine with my husband (contractor from Chicago), daughter (11) and son (8).
I never really had a weight problem until my daughter was born and was never able to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I have been on endless diets but have always gained the weight back. Being 4'10' and weighing 143 pounds is not healthy for me.
I just started counting calories today and hoping that I can stick to it. Joining this group, I hope that I can get support from everyone. My interests are: new found love of golfing, reading, cooking/baking, scrapbooking and started jewelry making. I am a stay-at-home mom with lots of time on my hands with both kids in school. I recently started walking on the treadmill again and hoping to get my exercise level back up.
So, I hope I can count on everyone for support. Thanks.
Maria
Hi Maria welcome to our group. I've never golfed (other than mini golf with my kiddo's) I really should try it.![]()
Hi Everyone!
1. I started having a problem with my weight the older I got. After my second child things just got worse. Now at my heaviest 200lbs I have decided to make the changes I need to live a healthy life.
2. I am new to CC.
3. I joined this group to help learn my calorie intake and for support & motivation.
4. I am 31 and am from Stoney Creek. I have 2 great kids that I want to live for. I just started water fit and it is a blast.
1. History with weight loss: Up and down my entire adult life...mostly up though! I've had success with WW in the past but don't want to pay to lose weight ever again!
I work out regularily (3-4 times per week) at the Y, spinning has been my latest passion but now I'm trying to run and have recently discovered the Podrunner Intervals podcasts on iTunes...they make running a whole lot easier for me!
2. History with Calorie Count: I just joined the other day...was looking for info on finding my BMR and stumbled upon CC...good find so far!
3. Reason for joining this group: I'm in Niagara and was curious who else is going through all of the same or similar lifestyle changes.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am in college full time, mother of 2 boys - 4 and 7 years old, Husband and I got married last year after being together for 19 years! (we're both procrastinators LOL); I'm interested in child education, cooking, exercise, family, camping and outdoor activities like cycling, hiking and gardening.
Hi, I live in Orillia, and am glad I found this site from Ontario on Calorie Count. I've had a problem with my weight since I was in teens, although I wasn't obese then. From time to time I would need to lose a few pounds then kept them off until I was in my mid-forties. Slowly over a period of time, less came off and more stayed on. I'd probably be correct in stating that I haven't seen 200 lbs for a long, long time. On January 1, 2009, I took myself in hand and on my own, had lost 53 pounds when I joined Calorie Count on October 14, 2009. My weight was 266 on January 1, and 213 on October 14, 2009.
My philosophy is a total commitment to a life changing healthy living plan. Over the years I learned a lot about calorie counting and nutrition, so I eat 3 well balanced meals and a snack or 2 daily. I set my calorie limit at 1400 calories a day, and that works for me because for the most part I don't feel real hunger .
I joined the Y at the end of August this year, and for the first time ever I got into a daily exercise regimen. I do weights, acquafit, recumbent bike, walking the track and stretches. Everything was going along well (too well!)till last week Thursday when I missed the last step going into the acquafit pool, and hurt my knee. Who knew acquafit could be so dangerous? I thought I hadn't been seriously hurt, till I got home and happened to turn around, and my knee didn't like it. I almost fainted, broke out in a cold sweat, and my vision blurred. And those were the minor symptoms! I thought I was having a stroke. My housemates tried to get me up to take me to Emerg, but since I was unable to stand, the ambulance gave me a ride to the hospital. On arrival they immediately gave me a shot of demarol, mixed with gravol to settle my stomach. The X-Ray showed no broken bones, but because my leg was so swollen they couldn't tell if it was a ligament or cartilege injury, so I was outfitted with an ankle to thigh brace and crutches. So much for my Olympic career. I go back on Tuesday when I hope they can sum up the damage.
I didn't lose any weight the 2nd weigh in having lost 2 pounds at the first one. Monday is my weigh-in day and I weigh in on the "Want to Lose 100 pounds or more" under the mega heavy weight entry. My current goal weight is 160 pounds whenever I get there.
I live alone, and am separated from my husband, although we now get along very well. Separate homes works for me. I share my home with my 2 cats Barney and Fred and my little teacup poodle, Tulip. She's the doggie in the picture.
I have a lot more to say, but aren't you grateful that I'm too tired to do so. Hope to hear from all of you as to your hopes, wishes, accomplishments and of course any difficulties. Thanks for listening
1. History with weight loss:
Most of my life I was slender then I took a drug called "Depo Pro Vera" to combat migraines. This was when I inflated like a balloon. To make matters worse I changed jobs from a highly active factory position to a sedentary office position.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I found this website by accident when I was searching for the amount of calories in a particular food. I fell off the bandwagon as they say when I first joined. I then realized that if I slowly make certain changes, I will be able to stick to a healthy plan. My first 10 pounds were the toughest in the whole wide world to loose but I did it and now I am 25 pounds lighter with at least another 50-55 pounds to go.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I am from Toronto. I was born in Kitchener. I have family and friends residing in both cities so it is nice touching base with fellow Ontarians on this site who have a history with weight loss. I have a friend who is still struggling to get out of the "yo-yo stage" so she leans on me for support. Everyone else is slender so they can preach but don't really understand the struggles of being in constant weight loss mode (as opposed to weight management mode).
4. Other info:
I work in the financial industry. I like writing as a hobby and I'm a bookworm. Outdoor stuff: Camping, walking & swimming in the summer. Skiing I like but have a hard time getting around to doing it.
Hi Bananc, I know what you mean by sedentary jobs - for a good deal of my life I practiced law, and then was appointed by the Attorney General to the bench as a Presiding Justice of the Peace in the Ontario Court of Justice. That's just a high-falluting way of saying I sat a lot, and I was fat more than I was not. I lived in Toronto for over 40 years until I retired to my hometown of Orillia. For the first couple of years I was inactive, and you guessed it, I got fatter. Speaking of balloons I could have passed for the Remax helium filled balloon. I looked more like a barrel than an apple. When I started my weight loss programme on January I, 2009. I weighed 266. I've since lost more weight, and when I joined Calorie Count on Octber 14th, I had shed 53 pounds. My goal weight is 160. I joined Calorie count for support because I live alone, and losing weight on one's own has its challenges. I've lost 2 pounds since then and my weigh-in day is tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes. I know what you mean, no one understands like another person who is still losing weight and not just maintaining. I love to write too, and read when I can concentrate. Now since I have lost half my weight nothing holds me down. I can't believe how much better I feel and you will too. Calorie Count offers you many tools and tricks to help you with the struggle. I'm cheering for you!! Once you commit, you can't go wrong, and don't get discouraged. Ask for help.
Hi, I am not new to CC, I used to be on here as rockinmama a few years ago. I've been gone for 1 year mainly because I hit a plateau and got very discouraged. I know quitting wasn't the answer so I'm back....no buts I was wrong to quit..and now I'm definately paying for it. My doctor says I am pre diabetic and he has me on high cholesterol pills, I also have high blood pressure. So I know I need to smarten up and get healthy. I have always been overweight..well actually in my teens I was 135....I'm 5'2'...so I guess I really wasn't that bad cause I would die to be there now...well maybe not die..lol. Thing is pressure from my peers made me think I was fat so I started yo-yo dieting. I even went on a yogurt diet where all I ate was yogurt..nothing else...hated yogurt for the longest time after that. All those crazy diets I tried wrecked my system and metobolism which is why I am now 234 lbs at 48 years old and very unhealthy and miserable. So here I am with a new start and I'm hoping I can be of encouragement to others like I know you all will be to me.
I live near Sudbury Ontario....you know The Big Nickel? Anybody else close by?
I work for a company called Seniors Aid of Sudbury East Ltd. I clean homes for seniors and some personal care too. I also do some private homes to...I clean and do gardening for one lady who has MS.
I have a wonderful, very supportive husband who wants to see me healthy and happy. I also have a married 23 year old daugter who is also on this site to lose some weight and is always there to keep me going. I also have a little Grand dog....yes that's right a granddog...my daughter's little **** Savannah. Never thought I could love a dog so much.
I have 2 old grey cats Mouse and Whiskey and a husky/king shepperd mix Balto. I love reading, gardening, crocheting(when I have the time), and I love any animal. Also look to cook and bake so any recipes to help me along would be greatly appreciated.
Ummm..not sure what else to write so I'll shut up now. Looking forward to making new motivational friends.
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
