I can see I'll have to break the ice here...

I retired from the US Air Force in Jul 2007 -- after 26 years of active duty service.  I fought the weight standards the whole time I was in -- doing all the same things I preach against now -- fasting, sauna, over exercising, laxatives...  Although I never did really crack the code, at least I figured out that those methods weren't working for me.  Seems like just after I retired, I found CC -- and although I stall occasionally, I really haven't looked back. 55-60lbs lost (depending on the day of the week).

Tell me your story and connection to the military

I'm a military wife. Laughing

My wonderful DH Ron is currently in his 25th year of service -- currently he is active duty (a pilot) in the California Air National Guard. He joined the Air Guard at age 17 as a high school senior, and has been in ever since ... many years as a traditional Guardsman while working as a Crew Chief and attending college, then he was commissioned and sent to flight training and has been largely active duty since then. (He needs 6 more years for an active duty retirement.) After flying F-16s for about 9 years (with over 1,000 flight hours), he transferred to the RC-26, a suveillance aircraft. (He had 2 deployments flying over Iraq in F-16s, and just finished his second deployment to Iraq flying RC-26s ... he has over 60 combat sorties in the RC-26 for Iraq, so far.) He is slated to re-deploy to Iraq (that will be tour #5) in Spring 2009.

My (late) father was a Sergeant in the Army for WW2, serving in the Pacific, and joined the reserves when he got out. He was one of the first drafted for Korea and spent 1.5 years as a POW. He received purple hearts in WW2 and Korea.

My father was a retired Navy vet. My husband was a Navy vet, who later became a contractor for a defense company. Have been around the military all my life, have met many wonderful people and have seen many interesting places.

Joined this group to lend support to any and all service members, or spouses that use CC. Am proud of the United States Armed Forces and my family's service in it.

Hi! I'm Active Duty Air Force. I've been in 4 years now and have loved every one of them. I'm an F-15 maintainer stationed in Idaho. I'm a divorced mother of one. Having 2 full time jobs makes life interesting! I use CC to track my diet so I can make sure I'm getting an adequate number of calories each day. Some days I get so busy that I forget to eat, so CC helps keep me accountable.

I live in Newport News, VA.  I started getting serious about losing some weight again when I hit 190, and I'm slowly dropping it.

I work out constantly (although the recent colder weather has driven me indoors for my running/cycling/swimming, and I hate doing treadmills or indoor cycling) and lift heavily 4-5 times a week.

UNFORTUNATELY, it's not my workouts that are my problem.  What kills me is eating...I love to cook and eat, and I eat a lot of good, rich food.  I eat out regularly as well, and I've tried to use the "Eat This, Not That" book/website from Men's Health as much as I can.

I'm in the Air Force, and because I'm on the road so much, I end up eating out often, and then not getting my workouts in.

So, I guess I want to really track what I do better...that's my goal.  Hopefully, I'll lose weight in the process!

Hope to hear from any of you soon...cheers, Kris

Hey Group!  SrA Andrew P here.  26 and in the Oregon Air Guard.  I'm a DSG but am also a full time technician.  Any other members of the ANG here?  I joined looking to lose about 70 pounds and have already knocked off about 14.  I'm doing well and still feeling motivated.

I was also wondering what the fitness standards were for other branches of the military be it active or reserve.

Hey everyone, Army wife here. We are at Ft. Lewis and my husband is about to head off to Afghanistan. I joined CC because I hate being overweight and my husband is very "hooah hooah" PT. He's the guy who summits Mt. Rainier with an 80lb ruck for "fun". He consistently tells me I'm beautiful but when we met I weighed about 100lbs less than I do now and I just hate being this way. So with him heading off for a year now is the perfect time to get in shape and get healthy so when he comes back we can do things together.

I've done really well with working out - consistently every day for the past three weeks but I'm still struggling with my food choices and that's evident as the scale isn't moving! lol So I hope y'all won't mind if I steal some of your ideas and motivation once in a while so I can keep on track.

I'm a Navy mustang - I enlisted in 2002 and I commissioned early this year.  I'm studying for the bar, and after that, I'll cross over to the JAG corps.

My husband is also a Sailor, so we're a happy Navy family.

Why I joined CCount:

1) Tired of getting roped and choked.  I always pass, but it'd be nice to just step on the scale and be done with it.

2) Officer Development School students RUN.  I hate to run.  I figured I'd get some good tips here and on Active.com to help me get better at running.  (In case you're wondering, I swim my PRT.)

3) I knew I needed to figure out to how to get better at tracking my food.

Happy to be here,

~A

I'm stationed in Aviano AB Italy. I'll be honest, the Air Force isnt for me. I disagree with too many aspects of it to continue past my four year mark. It's been fun for the most part for sure but I know God has another plan for me other than fixing jets.  Im an avid rock climber, runner, backpacker, marathoner and budding tri-athlete. I just found out about the site and its making my exact food intake a lot easier. My current goals are the Venice marathon in October of this year and to climb 5.12a-d/V5-8 within the next two years. Im looking into adventure triahtalons along witrh regulars as well. If you're in North Italy and need a climbing guide or running partner im always game. Happy to be here -Nathan
