Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:

1. History with weight loss:

3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

And now just go ahead and make that first post!

I'll go first!  See my profile for weight loss/CC history.

Cycling history: I always had a bike growing up and wasn't allowed to use training wheels when I learned.

When I was going into high school my parents were training for Cycle Oregon and bought me a road bike so I could go along.  Because they thought I might still grow, I got a $35 garage sale bike - a Univega Arrowpace.  Well, I didn't grow any more, but put a lot of miles on that bike.

I just bought a new bike (8 years later) - a Giant OCR A1.  I am loving it so far!  I have about 50 miles on it so far, riding just for enjoyment/exercise - not planning to commute.

Wow.  I have been using CC for six months or so and I never knew there were groups....  Now I feel dumb.

1. History with weight loss:  I have lost about 25 pounds so far.  Still have 45 or so more to go if I want to reach my recommended weight.

2. History with Calorie Count:  Not sure what to put here.  I have a profile and blogs.  I guess the answer is there

3. Reason for joining this group:  I know that part of making this a lifestyle change will be to become more active.  That means I have to find interests that don't involve sitting in front of a computer.  I am also trying to find ways to get my husband out of in front of a computer.  That is where cycling comes in.  He used to like it and don't mind it.  I have problems with my foot that makes many other activities out of the question.  I want to join one of the local cycling clubs once I can ride far enough fast enough to keep up.   I am also hoping to do rides like Cycle Oregon myself when I get into shape.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:  Me, huh?  I am a computer geek.  Work as a database administrator.  Married.  Grown kids with one stepdaughter still living with us while in college.  1 ancient, decrepit, cat.  I have a hybrid style bike, but I only do street riding.  Nothing fancy.  My reward when I reach a healthy weight is to buy a really nice bike.  Right now, I figure there isn't much point in shaving 15 pounds off the bike while I am hauling 45 on me.

clharr - don't feel dumb - groups are new!  see this post :-)  Welcome to the group!

History with weight loss:  Not much.  I just fould the calorie count website yesterday.  I was entering data on another site but doesn't work nearly as well as this one.  I've always been active but have mostly neglected diet but that is changing.

History with calorie count: Found it yesterday.

Reason for joining this group:  I'm really into cycling; both off-road and on road.  I'm trying to really push myself in order to get more fit and lose weight.

Interesting details: Married with 2 kids, boring job (hopefully this will change), really been enjoying the Olympics.  Have recently signed up for two long distance road rides; 62 mile ride for cancer and 150 mile two day ride for multiple sclerosis.

Hey! I'm new to the group, so I guess I'll give these questions a go...

1. History with weight loss: About 2 years ago I shrunk from 130 to 105 by using Calorie Count (though I wasn't very active with the website.) I continued to weigh myself as my weight slowly crept back up to 115 and hovered there. Then I made a huge mistake and quit weighing myself. So today I finally weighed and I'm 5.2 and 121 pounds. Ugh. But I'm on the right track again so I guess that's good.

2. History with Calorie Count: Well, that's kinda explained above, but I just got back into the whole Calorie Count thing Aug 19...

3. Reason for joining this group: My brother lives in Boone, NC--a big cycling area and he, my sister-in-law, and one of my other brothers have been very into the whole cycling thing. They've competed in races and they got my boyfriend and I into it. So, while I'm no Lance Armstrong (though my favorite rider is Christian Vandevelde!) I do like to ride. So I'm new to cycling but my boyfriend have been going on 25 mile rides a couple times a week, so I'm improving quickly. I ride my Specialized Dolce in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There are a fair number of hills, so it's a good ride. Hopefully next summer when my brothers pester me to ride in a race with them I will be both skinny and fit so I can confidently say yes!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Well, I'm a senior at the University of Alabama majoring in journalism and political science. I have been with my boyfriend since we were 16, and we're not engaged, but we do plan on getting married one day. Like I said, I have two brothers very interested in cycling--actually they are training for a triathlon now, so way to make me feel fat and lazy...Actually one of my nephews is into cycling as well and he's only 13--and he's better than I am. Actually my brothers are somewhat of a diet inspiration for me--they both were chubby at one point and now they're both very fit. Of course, they did this all through exercising, because dieting might mean having to cut out all those beers....

Have you done any mountain biking?  You have a couple of nice trails there in Lake Lurleen and Munny Sokol.  Good luck!

Yeah, actually I have. I'm more of a road biker...and I'll tell you why. I went riding in Sokol park and some how I must have brushed up against a tick bed because I got home and I had an anklet of ticks where my sock started! I think I probably had at least 50 ticks on me...NOT EXAGGERATING!

But I went mountain biking in Boone, NC and I had a lot of fun. It's so pretty there. We went on this one trail that crossed a couple of streams. It was so funny to watch my boyfriend fall trying to ride across!

I haven't rode on any trails at Lake Lurleen though...hmm...maybe I'll have to give that a try! Thanks!

1) I've always blown off the fact that I've been overweight for years and years.  Then I failed my yearly physical for the first time last June.  Bummer...bad HDL, LDL, etc.

2) I joined CC+ end of July to help me track my calories and share the ups and downs of weight loss.

3) I use my road bike to burn calories so I don't get bored with just walking.

4) Jack of all trades at a small company.  Married with 5 kids that range from grade school to college.

I would like to train for a 50 mile ride in the next year or so.

1. History with weight loss:

OK - At the end of 2003 I weighed 230 lb (I'm 5'8") and, having had my heart soundly broken, decided to turn it into something positive.  By June I had lost 75 lb following the WW plan on my own and doing LOTS of exercise...running, swimming, hiking, sailing, weights...and then in July of 2004 I injured my knee badly (yep, overuse).  Despite that, for the next year I maintained my weight within 5 lb.  Then, love came knocking in the form of a wonderful cook and I'm now back up to 180 lb!

2. History with Calorie Count:

I joined CC a couple of years ago to use the tools - they're a lot better now than they used to be.  This is the first time I have joined a group.

3. Reason for joining this group:

I was looking for those with like interests for support.  I'm not a great cyclist, but I cycle to work most days (just under 8 miles one way) on my Jamis Tangier commuter clunker and I recently treated myself to a wonderful Masi 3vc ultegra carbon frame road bike which I love!  My goal is to get out on some longer rides on that one before the rains set in here (I'm in Vancouver, Canada).

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

I work for a company developing a quantum computer so it's a bunch of techies who are hugely into bikes and the environment.  On any given day there is 5-15 bikes in a former reception area!  I love outdoor sports - swimming, sailing, skiing - and travelling.

A quantum computer?  Who's funding that for 'ya?

Private venture capital - major investors include Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Harris & Harris in the US and Growthworks & BDC here in Canada...working at a start up is always entertaining!

1.  I've always been relatively thin, and when that was no longer true, I knew it was time for action.  I'm 5'8", and when I saw a picture of myself wherein my stomach was stretching my t-shirt, ugh.  I've been losing weight slowly (touched 180 last summer, now 157), working toward a first-order goal of 148 pounds (which would give me a BMI of 22.5, smack in the middle of the healthy range, but the more anchoring reason for that number is that it's my "when I got married" weight).  I've resolved to reward myself with a TT bike when I get there.  :-)

2.  I've been on calorie-count for about two years.  I'm frustrated that c-c's burn estimates for bicycling are so far out of touch with reality.

3.  Why not?  I've been active with cycling topics in the fitness forum for a long time now.

4.  I'm almost 40, I'm a computer programmer (file systems kernel hacker) in the Pittsburgh area.  My primary hobby right now is bicycle racing (just set a 25-mile TT PR of 1:05:58 tonight, using my road bike!), and I enjoy long, hilly rides, too (I completed my fourth Cheat Mountain Challenge century two weekends ago).

1.  My history with weight loss is pretty simple.  I was a skinny kid up until age 6 or so, and then I was a chubby kid, then a chubby adult.  I've gotten up to 300 pounds several times in the past dozen years or so, and managed to lose alot of weight each time and got down to as low as 230.  I'm a big guy so even at 300 nobody thought I was that heavy, including myself since I was always active with my kids and work and home projects.  But 300 is still to much and at 35 years old stuff is starting to hurt, like noisy knees and an aching back.  This time I have a different mindset.  For the first time my doctor was really making clear to me the effects of my weight.  My blood pressure was high and he gave me a medication that I have to take everyday.  It was a wake up call especially since my dad had been recently diagnosed with diabetes and his liver is failing.  Kind of a look at what will happen to you if you don't change your ways moment.  So no more stupid diets.  I've totally changed my eating habits in the past three months and lost 55 pounds, down to 245 now.  Riding my bike every other evening is relaxing and exercise that I actually enjoy too!

2.  I started calorie count at the beginning of July, the same day I bought my new bike.  I really love how you can keep track thru the day what you are putting in your mouth.  It has had quite a dramatic effect on my eating habits.

3.  I joined this group upon an invite from one of the members.  I have always loved riding my bike, since I was 22 anyway which is when I first rode one (yes, weird).  I only ride on the roads or paved trails.  Every time I go on a dirt trail I fall and hurt something or wind up on my back looking up at the sky or foliage (It's nice and relaxing down there) but let me tell you hitting the ground at speed at 300 pounds is quite an event!

4.  I'm 35 married with two small children age 3 and 7.  I work at a college in Upstate NY in the technology department.  I install and design sound and video systems and I love my job!  My wife and I are both into learning more about our world and teaching our kids about what an interesting planet they live on.  So we do alot of nature walks and hikes and go to as many museums as we can.  My interest's include the New York Mets (Go METS!), astronomy, physics, paleontology, expensive European automobiles, electronic gadgets, and now to my surprise nutrition and fitness! (there are more interests, but I've written to much already)

Hey guys and gals! Thank you for inviting me to this group! I really would love to get super fit cycling (it's not the only physical exercise I'm doing, but I love it). I am sure I will be asking a zillion questions, in fact if I can, I would like to start a thread simply on biking questions... Probably it will be mostly me there asking lol!

*here it is: Biking/Cycling Q's and A's

Anywho:

1. History with weight loss: This is my first real attempt... I've "tried" (I do that " because I know I didn't reeeeally try) in 2007 after seeing a Christmas picture of me... WOWZA. I was about 170 then. I've lost about 16 pounds... not really doing any structured thing... BUT that is all changing now! My goal is to be 128lbs.
2. History with Calorie Count: I started like, 5 months or so ago (possibly longer) and just stopped. Now I'm back (I can't really say I'm that good at tracking my calories daily, but I like the forums etc. A lot of good info here!)

3. Reason for joining this group: I bought a bike (and most importantly I was invited!!!!!!!)
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I teach ESL, I sing, I have a cat... I am a goofball. Uh... and apparently short on words for this question.

Feel free to drop me a line!

I'm happy to be here, and glad to be around (so to speak) people who are so motivating!

1. History with weight loss:  I have been a dieter forever, never really getting where I wanted but not always the healthiest dieter either.

2. History with Calorie Count:  I started CC at the end of April and have lost 17lbs and 13 more to go!!!!

3. Reason for joining this group:  I haven't riden a bike since I was a teen and last night I went riding wiht my daughter and it was Great!!!!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:  I am in A/R and manage the Business Office, I am married and my Husband has MS, I have 6 children total, 4 of which I gave birth to and two step-children, 3 grandchildren.  I work two jobs and exercise 6 days a week.

Great success to all!!!!

1. History with weight loss:  Yo-Yo dieter.  Kinda.  Maybe just a "Yo".  I've been morbidly obese most of my adult life.  I never really worried about it, even when I first started mountain biking in the early/mid 90s.  (I'm 5'10" and 303 lbs, for those who are counting).  January of 2008 I started dieting.  I got down to 274, then I started a new job where I was on the road more, home later, and pretty much completely unable to use CC as I had before.  Then I quit smoking  (22 years as a smoker) on my 40th birthday.  I've packed on 20 pounds in 2 months.  Hence my renewed interest in CC.

2. History with Calorie Count:  Started in January 2008.  It did me a lot of good until I couldn't get to CC any longer due to work and drive time.

3. Reason for joining this group:  Mainly because I'm a cyclist.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm 40, an ex-smoker (2 months 9 days), married to a hot Brit chick (lol), really overweight, and - get this - I work at a bike shop.  I've worked at the same shop off and on for 10 years or so, leaving back in 2001 to be a web designer for the state of Indiana and then an IT geek for a few years.  Got burned out and went back to work at the bike shop.

I met my wife online back in 2005.  We were married in December of 2006.  She's from Sutton, Surrey, UK (London, basically).  I'm from here - Greencastle, Indiana - I inherited my Grandmother's house in 2001.

I share the house with my wife, my 14 year old step-son, and.... 10 cats.  Yes, I married the Crazy Cat Lady.

Bikes: I have a NOS 1999 Cinelli Aliante, a 2008 Masi Alare, a 2008 Bottechia/Fuji (no name) carbon w/Ultegra, a 1983(?) Bianchi San Remo, a 2000 Rocky Mountain Vertex, and a few others that don't really matter enough to mention.  lol

History with weight loss and CC:  Was never over weight until the last few years when I gained for a variety of reasons— joined CC and started moving again.  Am back to a good weight.

Reasons for joining this group: Used to ride quite a bit 10 years ago and then as the group I rode with moved on, I stopped riding.  Bought a new bike in the spring, thinking it would be a good way to get around in the summer which I spend up north in the U.P.  Am currently working on training to ride the Hilly Hundred.

Some interesting details: Am a first grade teacher.  I love to read and do anything outside—hike, kayak, garden, split wood, swim, pick berries, bike.

Reckon I'll see you at the Hilly, then.  We're closing the shop and all heading down that way for some suffering on Mt. Tabor.  lol

I suspect that Mt. Tabor won't be the only place I'll be sufferingUndecided

Hi. I'm 39, a little under 5'8 and have been fluctuating between 140 and 150 for the past year-and-a-half. My ideal is somewhere between 130 and 135. I'll settle for 135 for now. I'm a lacto vegetarian and generally eat pretty healthy. But I like fattening foods just like everyone else. So now I keep those to a bare minimum.

I work and live in Southern Calif. and have been a cyclist for the last 10 years. The last 8 I've owned road bikes. I also have a mountain bike I use for short 1 hour rides before work and for commuting on my days off. I started participating in some Tuesday night training crits in my area over the summer. Thats a good workout. And very taxing.Laughing I intend to go back to it next summer.

I've been with calorie count a little over a month and have lost 10 pounds so far. I'm at 140. This site is fantastic. I kept hearing about studies that found people who tracked their calories lost more weight than those who didn't. Its true for me. All those stupid fat burner pills and meal replacement drinks are now in the past. I eat the way I normally eat, I just make sure to keep track of the calories and keep my daily intake to 1500 or less. I try to ride at least 5 days a week either on the mountain bike or the road bike.

Anyway there's my story.
