Hi!
It looks like I'll be first! Here's my mini bio...
History with weight loss: I have always been a skinny girl, it until recently that I started to gain. I would yo-yo up and down within 5 pounds, but it wasn't anything I worried about. Last November, my husband and I moved to NY (Long Island) from sunny southern California (LA). Needless to say, leaving my job and my friends, and coming to a totally new environment was a little stressful. That's when I really gained and this time it was more than a measly 5 pounds.
History with Calorie Count: I joined CC in July of 2008. This is a wonderful resource for those who wish to lose a little or a lot of weight.
Reason for joining this group: I love meeting and talking to new and interesting people!
Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Currently not working...In LA I worked with disabled students at a community college. I married my best friend in January of 2007, I still consider this our honeymoon! I have 2 kids, 1G & 1B, and 3 grandkids - 1G & 2B.
Lots of luck to all of you! ~Bea
History with Weight loss
Been on lots of diets through my life. Balooned up in weight at about 12 yrs old--at physical maturation, I guess, to 180 lbs. Lost weight to start highschool and graduated at about 135 lbs. Then I met and married my hubby, had three children and gained a lot of weight through it all. But in more recent years, with a few sideroads of life I put on even more. A slight stroke shook me up. I decided I did not want another, nor did I want diabetes that so many of my firends and relatives were developing. At about 250 lbs I started on Atkins, lost a few pounds, but decided that I'd rather do it a healthier way and joined Weight Watchers. I like the WW program, and probably will continue to count "points" rather than calories, since I know the program pretty well now. I lost about 50 lbs on WW, but I have been at a standstill for about a year now and figure I can use all the help and support I can get.
History with Calorie Count
I just joined Calorie Count
Reason for joining this group
Besides the struggle with my weight, I am an artist and love to be able to share this interest with others.
Other details about me
We are retired, or rather my hubby is. A "household drudge" just never gets that choice! LOL
I paint--decorative painting in several mediums, fine art painting in oils. Also make beaded jewelry, sew--working right now on a mannequin style doll and cloth purses.
I live in beautiful northern Wisconsin where the autumn leaves are getting gorgeous, and I want to get out and paint the scenery--if I wasn't so darned busy--it's that retirement thing--my hubby is a workaholic and thinks I should be his righthand man! Tomorrow morning we leave for a few days of camping in the upper penninsula of Michigan. I'll take some photos for painting later, although I prefer plein air painting. But we do "drive by vacations" never stay in one spot long enough to get out the paints and brushes!
I have three kids-2 girls, one boy, 3 grandsons, one step-granddaughter, and yep, even one grandson! My how time flies! And I just still feel so young! Where did all the time go!!! I am owned and well trained by one little 17 yr. old tiny 7 lb. black cat, Sassy.

History with weight loss:
I've been a yo-yo dieter for many years, dappling in various unhealthy weight loss methods, but I've finally decided to get my act together and lose the weight the proper way.
History with Calorie Count:
I just joined today but i have been using it for about a year now
Reason for joining this group:
Because I love art! especially the fiber arts, I love knit and crochet! Plus I think CC will help me more if i get involved in different communitie
Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I'm taking a year off school to get ready to become a paramedic. I am currently working in retail, but am really just a science nerd at heart. I have a lovely pet snake named eddie who amuses me to no end and have many plans to travel.
History with weight loss:
I've always been average-chubby, but through puberty I gained a bit more weight, and was in the chubby-fat range. Then, through a crappy relationship, freshman 15 (25), and birth control, I gained 50 pounds in a year or so, and went from fat to obese.
The boyfriend and I broke up, I stopped taking birth control, and lost 50 pounds in a year. Since then it's taken me 2 more years to gain/lose on and off down another 30 pounds.
I'm resting at 170 pounds right now, and looking forward to my goal of 150 in the near(ish) future. Eating well and exercising are my friends, but sometimes we have 'fights'.
History with Calorie Count:
I joined about a year ago...I love it here :D
Reason for joining making this group:
Because art is life, and life is art. I literally breath and eat art, and love everything I do and see to be beautiful. This is another reason I want to get healthy. I want to be proud of my body as a piece of art as well.
Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I have a BS in Media Arts & Animation, but I'm currently paying student loans by working for the State of California! My job is pretty average, but I work with awesome people, and I'm generally happy with my choice to work here.
I live with my bf of 2 years and some odd months, and we're looking into getting a place of our own once we save up enough in rent money.
We have a stray cat named Simon who we adopted/he adopted us. He's an adorable male Siamese who is about a year from our guesses.
I love drawing, painting, taking photos, and just generally being arts and craftsy. I really enjoy the outdoors, and want to start going on more hikes before Winter truly hits and it rains a lot or is too cold to go outside anymore. I am looking forward to Winter sunsets though. Those are just BEAUTIFUL!
History with weight loss:
I was always that skinny person that could get away with eating anything at all and not gaining an ounce. I was overly active with sports and marching band/drum corps and really never had a lot of down time through school. I went in the military and got introduced to building muscle and doing longer distance running and I put on some good weight. Kept fairly trim even with having kids and was always well in my weight standards even after getting out.
Catastrophic knee injury in April 07 put me on the sidelines 3 weeks before my first full distance triathlon. Went from running 15 miles to couch detail and it was awful. Surgery, infection and complications (medical or insurance hold ups) put recovery at 10 months from injury to "full duty" clearance. I packed on 65# during that time and took 9 months to get off about half of it from jan 08 to Sept 08.
History with Calorie Count:
I joined here in Sept when I knew there had to be a better way. Cutting portions and going to smaller plates got off the 30-35# to put me at half lost so I could really start running again but watching the weigh crawl off was really disheartening.
Reason for joining this group:
I'm an artist so being around creative people that are similar minded expands my support network. I love all mediums and look forward to being able to see different genres of work rather then the same things that I do in communities of people doing the same styles.
Some interesting details about yourself:
Let's see here.. the big 3-0 is upcoming in Feb and I'll be running my 1st 5k since my injury then. I'm married (10 years now!) and have 4 amazing kids and 3 furry ones... 3 girls and 1 son, and then 2 cats (b/g) and 1 beagle (another girl). I'm freezing in FL right now watching Smokey, Bandit and Sasha curl up on Sasha's doggy bed, making me want to make a run for the covers too!
I work freelance (thank you bad economy and retail cutbacks) doing artwork right now. I'm fortunate that I can make a living in one of my mediums but struggling because I don't live where it's that marketable so freelance is my only hope. I do photography and photo restorations, manipulations and retouching.... but the bacon comes from 3d textures for models. I do 3d artwork and have sold a few book covers and tshirt designs as well as printwork, but the most comes out of the 3d texture work. Best way I can explain it is movies like Shrek, or Wall-e that use 3d modeling.... I'm the person that puts the skin, eyes, teeth, etc detailing into the model which before then is just grey. I have done watercolor, oils, some (awful) pottery, and enjoy pen/pencil/charcoal sketching/drawing. Just don't have the room for a studio here or time right now! Maybe someday.
Look forward to meeting everyone!
Hi everyone! I guess I will just go ahead and answer the questions, that will be the easiet.
1) Up through high school I was that girl that everyone hated because I could eat what ever I wanted and still be a size six. Once I got to college I gained my freshman 15 (plus my roommates). At first I didn't care that much, but I just slowly started to gain more every year. Last year I hit 180 lbs (I am 5'6") and that was my wake up call. I have been able get back down to 162lbs, but would like to get closer to 140lbs.
2) I have just joined CC a couple days ago.
3) I have been trying to find a group that I can chat with, to help me feel some accountability with my weight. I saw this as a good choice, because even though I am an engineer and have a good ability with Math and Science I love art. I love to draw and paint and other crafts (knitting, sewing, scrapbooking,ect.).
4) I am 26 and living in IN, but call MN home. My husband and I moved down here after our wedding in '04 for school. I finished up with a BS in Industrial Engineering and he is still working on his PhD in Chem. I am currently working for a biomedical company. We don't have any kids yet, unless you count the two dog.
Happy to be here and meet you all!
1) I've always been a larger girl - never huge, but never thin either. Chubby, husky, sturdy, meaty, curvacious... however you want to put it. I like junk food honestly. And I like being lazy. True, it has bothered me socially and I went on a few diets here and there, but since I never got results, I gave up on it all rather easily. Now that I'm in my 30's its becoming more serious for health reasons and I WANT to be motivated
2) I've only been on calorie count a few months - never really delved into the forums & groups until today. The daily emails have helped push me this far.
3) Like you, I'm an artist. Not by trade - just hobby. I draw cartoony things and anime. I've taken some painting and charcoal classes from College, but since those are usually messier and more expensive, I've stuck with pens and markers for a medium. However, I figure if I can get inspiration from anyone, it's other artists, so why not?
4) I'm 33, between Boston and NH, married and no kids. I've got a desk job (hello, fellow office monkeys out there!) and we have a Pointer who takes up lots of our attention. My husband and I are comic book & D&D geeks, much of which sparks my art ideas and even reference pictures. My newest art form I'm trying to work on is Costume making (for the conventions we want to go to). Since I know nothing outside of what I can try to remember from 7th grade home economics, I'd love advice from anyone who knows how to sew costumes or make props.

And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hey, all. I joined Calorie Count in January, then forgot about it and recently restarted in May. I never had a problem with weight until I got into my mid/early 20's. The weight gain was quick and mostly due to a terrible lifestyle riddled with depression and self-loathing. Now I'm more motivated to shed those extra pounds that serve as the reminder of a horrible time. I joined this group because I'm painting and drawing all the time. I also just dusted off my circa-1970 Minolta and am taking pictures left and right. I'm unemployed at the moment and arts and crafts get me through the day. I knit, crochet, paint with acrylic, sketch with charcoal, and take photos. The creative juices are flowing once again and it's nice to have a place to share my interest in art. I wouldn't say I'm an artist and I'd hardly call what I produce art, but I do so enjoy the process of being creative.
Good luck with all your weight loss and art-ing fellow Calorie Counters.
1. I guess I've always been uncomfortable with my weight. I've never been really obese, but everyone in my family is thin except me (which means I'm constantly teased). There was a small stretch of time when I felt good in my skin, but I've since gained about 10 lbs or so. My family is very "meat and potatoes" and there's always dessert around so it is hard for me to eat healthy and light. I want to lose 10-15 lbs. and start eating better.
2. I joined Calorie Count today - nothing bad to report so far! =P I'm hoping to just get some support from people in the same situation as me because, sadly, when there's a showdown between my willpower and a piece of cake, the cake always wins.
3. It seemed natural for me to join this group because I love art! I will be starting my sophmore year as an art major this fall. Right now, my goal is to earn an MFA and teach at the high school or college level. I haven't had the opportunity to play with many different mediums, but so far my favorites are chalk pastel and acrylic paint. I've always been creating or imaging something and it is something brings me great joy. I also enjoy talking with other artists and getting inspiration from them! =)
4. About me...I am about to turn 20 and I'm not sure how I feel about leaving these fun teen-years behind! I currently live at home while I attend a local community college; I have one year left and then I will transfer (hopefully to Western Oregon U). I work part-time in a "paint-your-own-pottery" shop. I LOVE my job - I get to work with ceramics, fused glass, mosaic, and silver clay. I really enjoy helping people create something unique and beautiful. Besides art, I like to read, bake, listen to music, watch movies, and ride my bike.
1. I was 135 lbs since I was 13, same weight, lost fat, gain muscle. I don't miss being winded all the time and I definitely don't miss the heartburn. I'm still that self-concious fat kid inside though.
2. I joined Calorie Count within the past two weeks. It's pretty fun, like playing a video game. I'm just here so I don't revert back to my old self.
3. I am an artist and an art apreciator.
4. I was captain of my schools Marine Corp Fitness Team. I went from being the worst to being one of the best. Ranked 6th in the nation now. It sounds cool but theres only a little over 20 schools that actually have the program.
Hi all,
I have painted and drawn pictures since I can remember. I think it all started when my mother would give me a paper and pencil to shut me up during the church service! For a couple of years I did a monthly comic for an aviation magazine, a very obscure aviation magazine. I was also asked several years ago to do some drawings for a childrens book, and still hold the patent for those characters. I always wanted to do more with my artistic abilities, but never did, and admire those who have.
I'm 54, married with a daughter and two sons. In December I topped the scales at 287. That's when I knew something had to change. One of the things I did was to join Calorie Counter. Here I have found a limitless amout of helpful information. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change!! With some help, I simply stopped the bad things I was doing and started doing the good things more. Today, I'm at 224 and down 4 pant sizes.
