And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hi, my name is Jen. I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I am 36 years old. I have one daughter and two girl beagles. I just joined Calorie Count a couple of days ago. So all of this is new to me. I originally wanted to know what calories were in the foods I was eating and stumbled across Calorie Count. I have to be honest, I hate recording everything I eat in a day. But it has helped me to see what I was consuming and how many calories I burn in a day. I have lost 2 pounds so far and that makes me happy. I have a weakness for chocolate and sweets of all kinds. It really is hard to say no and equally difficult to drag my butt to the gym. I am looking forward to the end results and a healthier lifestyle. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get a fat lazy beagle to lose some weight???? ![]()
LOL!
Our beagle was overweight too! They're supposed to like going for a walk though. Will yours go for a walk?
My roommate's australian shepherd mix takes me for a walk -- or I should say run. She will not slow down... I've almost put my shoulder out of joint the way she pulls and wants to run. And this from the dog that did so well in obedience school.
Good morning! My name is Lisa, and I have been with Calorie Count for a while now, but have NOT been online in quite some time. I had to take a break from working out, due to a torn rotator cuff, and somehow it just became oh-so-easy to take a break from everything else, too! (i.e. dieting, walking, etc...) Needless to say, I have gained back almost all of the 20 pounds I had lost.
But I have new motivation to get back on the wagon... I had my last round of physical therapy last Friday, and just got the invite in the mail for my 25th high school reunion next summer. So... I have 10 months to get my rear in shape!! (literally! lol)
A good bonus is that now I have two sweet walking partners - Hunny and Roxy. They are both pure-bred chihuahuas, and are such a blast to have around. Plus, my hubby will be joining me this go-round, as we both graduated from the same class at the same high school.
I am looking foward to "meeting" new dog-lovers / weight-losers to visit with and learn from! I am in the process of uploading photos of the puppies to my gallery, so you can see how cute they are.
Thanks for letting me join!
Lisa
aw, i love chihuahuas! all the ones i've known have been the sweetest, most gentle dogs you'd ever want to meet
think of how many steps they have to take to keep up with you - good exercise for you - great exercise for them!
and hey, if they get tired, at least it's no trouble to carry them back
![]()
LOL!! Yes, we've had to carry them home before! Hunny is a bit on the chunky side herself, at a whopping 8.5 pounds... ha ha! Little Roxy is nice and trim at a little over 5 lbs.
Yeah, they both love to walk. The one that doesn't need to lose weight is pretty mellow since she is older. The fat one, who we loving call...Porkchop, Daisy MOO, and Fatty Mae does that whole pulling you into a run thing. Her name is Daisy Mae. It's just a time thing. When we lived in an apartment we had to take them out to go potty, but now that we have a house and a fenced in backyard we are kind of lazy about it.
Ugh, it's late...i'm hittin' the gym early in the a.m....i'm gunna try for 3 miles on the treadmill at 5.0 tomorrow, wish me luck, i'm gunna need it!
thanks for chattin with me!
Peace to the Dog Lovers!!!
Hi Lisa...i love chihuahuas! they are so cute. My brother in-law has two also. Macho and Cherie. Macho is so cute and sweet and loving...Cherie on the other hand is not nice at all. That's a mama's girl. No one else can touch her.
My daughter is 11 and she is looking forward to that "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" movie and she loves that song :) funniest song ever! anyhoo....gotta get off this computer. Have a good day or night! it's night for me!
Love and Peace to ya! and your pupp's!!!
Hi Jen!
Welcome to the group, too! I have always wanted a beagle... when I was a kid I used to read books about "Barney the Beagle" and he was always so cute. Somehow, I never have gotten around to getting one yet! We had a poodle for 18 years, and when he died a couple of years ago, we never thought we would go for another dog. Now we have the two little girl chis... go figure!
Good for you for getting up and running. I need to get myself back on the treadmill, too. It really does help, and it has been so hot and humid lately that we haven't been taking the pups on too many outside walks... Need to just doe it, anyway.
Talk to you later!

My name is Sue. I have always had weight problems but I have really hit a high lately and just cannot seem to stay on track. I joined CC about 2 weeks ago and am finding it more helpful than any other dieting tool - I already love that I can ask questions and get answers back and I like knowing if the calories I ate were "the right" calories. My most immediate weight goal is to lose enough weight to be comfortable on a plane ride to Florida in April.
I share my life with my wonderful and supportive husband and 22 year old son and 2 labrador retrievers - Jenny is an 8 yr old black English lab and Maddie is a 2.5 year old chocolate American lab. (Actually, Maddie's pet store birth certificate says she is 100% lab, but she looks more like a Weimerainer (sp?). We don't care, we love her no matter what she is!) We got Jenny as a puppy but Maddie this April. Both are great dogs but their personalities are completely different - we compare Jenny to Eeyore and Maddie to Tigger. At least one day a week, our friend Eclipse comes over to stay. He is a 4 year old long haired miniature dachsund (sp?) and he doesn't like to stay alone so on his Mommy's long day at work, he comes over and hangs out. To carry on with our Winnie the Pooh theme, Eclipse would be Piglet. Really, we feel like we have 2.5 dogs. ![]()
2.5 dogs ::giggles:: that's funny ![]()
i take care of a chocolate lab and a black lab from time to time and boy, the young one could open up a business as a personal trainer -- he must be walked, he must fetch the ball
there's no avoiding it! he'll sit and stare at you and occasionally bark at you (once every so often) if you try to ignore him LOL!
Hi Sue:
Welcome to the site! I used to have a HUGE black lab (Maximum Overdrive - Max for short), until someone stole him.
He used to play with our poodle (who we had for 18 years until two summers ago), and that poodle definitely ruled the roost!
Now we have two chihuahuas, so I can relate to that "1/2" dog status! Ha ha... And their personalities are very different, as well. They are sort of like children in that way, don't you think?

I have an aussie mix that likes to take me for walks/ runs too!! He is a well behaved dog just watch out when you take out the leash. He also gets excited if he sees me put my heart rate moniter and xmradio headphones on cause he knows thats my"walking" uniform and he'll almost run me over to get to the front door.
I also have a miniture pincher mix - his pic is in my profile. He's 20 lbs now and not sure if its chubbs or muscle. He's spoiled rotten little dude even though he was just a puppy of 6 weeks when we took him in he instantly became big man on campus. Funny how my 80 lb dog would let this little runt come in and take over and become the alpha male but the little guy is!!
I have a red heeler mix that takes me for walks also. It doesn't take her long to poop out though and then we have a nice walk. I have been with calorie count for a couple of years now on and off. I lost over 20 pounds and have put about ten of that back on. It's time to climb back on the wagon and get serious. Angel, my dog, is overweight too. She is on Phenabarbatol which I believe contributes to some of her weight problem. That and scooby snacks. We both need the walk but there are so many dogs running loose in my town that it makes walking difficult. She is really good about it but she is constantly looking behind her to see what those other dogs are doing. I usually just make her keep walking and they get bored with us.
Hi my name is Aya, I'm 23 years old and I've been overweight/obese since well...forever, lol. :) I've recently become quite 'strict' with my diet and it seems to be working for me! :)
I have 1 boy beagle (Charlie)...who's weight has also gone up and down (I think he's a yo-yo dieter, lol). Right now he's 10 years old and 2 pounds overweight, but his belly makes him look much more. I don't know how to make him look more toned, I'm guessing it's just his age.
I also used to have an extremely loving wonderful pomeranian girl named Angel who died at 8 years old to congestive heart failure. I had to put her down 3 days before christmas last year, it was awful. I now have her ashes in a beautiful cherry wood urn with her name on a gold plate. She rests inside my family's grandfather clock. :) She was EXTREMELY loyal. She did everything in her power to be a good dog and to make you happy. She was such a happy dog, even when she couldn't breathe the night of her death. I will miss her very much.
Then my family got a crazy chihuahua yorkshire terrier mix female named Molly. She's completely bonkers, hehe. She will be 1 in October...so shes very puppy-like. Insanely hyper, loves to play. My beagle's ears are her favorite nibble-toy. :) She will also sit and stare and eventually whine if you ignore her when she wants to play. She loves fetch. :)
I love dogs. :)
Hi y'all. I have a motto...
Love me... Love my dogs.
It's pretty straight forward. I have three dogs. A beagle, a westie and a goldendoodle pup. I love em all. They keep me going. Every day we take a walk in the woods or in the fields down the road. I am self employed so they are my companions during the day also.
They watch me workout from the couch.
They share in my naughty foods (as long as its not chocolate.)
I can't ever remember not having a dog in my life.
Hello, I'm a 36 y/o registered nurse trying to lose the weight that I put on when I was in nursing school...Well, at least that's where it started and it just snowballed from there. I have about 20 lbs to lose and the closer I get to my goal the harder it is to lose. I have a 2 y/o yellow lab named Kala and thanks to her I walk at least a mile a day after work and much more on the weekends. I have been off and on with Calorie Count for a year or so and I have really enjoyed it but I have never participated in the groups or forums. So here goes...:)
Hi, my dog's name is Penny. She's a bull terrier/blue heeler cross. Right now she's living in the USA, but she was born and bred is Albany, Western Australia. She'll be 11 in 2009, and she came to the US in 2005.
Everyone in our family loves her and she is slightly pampered. The other day she didn't feel well and was very quiet. When she perked up she was back to her whiny, barking self :)
I've been using CC for about 1 1/2 years. It's great, but up until the big switch (today) I mainly used CC Classic so I didn't know squat about groups.
2,3. HEY, new to CC, and i'm sick of thinking about calories ALL the time and would rather talk about my dog :)
1. me and weight loss are old friends, but we've had a falling out. my smallest was 127 and my heaviest 160, right now at 155 going toward a goal of 130-140... at least until i don't feel like another person
4. i'm a pharmacist with Big Pharma company, i was recently married (150 for that.. you can see my yoyo problem), i have a 4 y/o cat oscar, and a 2 year old pup Georgie, he's a pit bull terrier/chessie mix but looks nothing like a chessie :) and i love him and want to kill him all at once all the time! He'll outgrow the chewing soon (yeah right) :) he's my baby though and we love him!
Hi I am Kass, I've been on cc now for about 3 weeks and I have lost 7 lbs. I just found this group. I have two boxers, a male 9 yrs old and a female 9months old. we have had both of them since they were just 6 weeks old. My old boy is also overweight, like his mama. Every time he goes to the vet they say he is in perfect health other than being about 15 lbs overweight. But nobody can look more pitiful and hungry than Rock can. I try just giving him smaller portions and diet dog food but he turns his bowl over in disgust. so my husband goes and fixes him something good , and he enjoys it so much. I have been taking him on walks more since I started on this new lifestyle , we go about 2 miles in the afternoons 3 times a week. But by the time we get home we are both dragging. We will probably get better though.
a little bit about me . I am 49 and have put on at least 60 pounds in the last 8 years. My goal is to get to 165 by March , as my 25 yr.wedding anniversary is the 3rd of that month and we want to have a party and I want to be able to wear something pretty , that doesn't have to be made by omar the tent maker. Also another reason for making this change in my life is that both my parents died young, mom at 50 dad at 56. and I had a brother die at 40, cancer took my mom and brother, heart attack my dad. I don't smoke but I am digging my grave with my fork. I had always used the standby line of "at least I'm under 200". I hadn't weighed since January of this year , until September 9th. Guess what? Hello 215...first came the tears , then the disgust then ,the fear that I couldn't do anything about it. The only way I had ever lost and kept it off was counting calories, so I started to look up calories and found this web site and it has really helped me. I look forward to being a part of this group , hopefully I can help and be helped by some fellow dog lovers .
Hi,
I just found out about this website and I think its great. Now that I've finished school I've decided to tackle the 15-20 lbs I put on while I was there. I've tried various diets over the years but I think realizing the value of a calorie is the only thing that is going to last in my world.
I have a 10 month old, 110lb and growing rottweiler/collie cross that is my daily motivation to get out and burn some energy. That being said, if I don't provide physical stimulation for this medium energy pup, she will stimulate herself by eating my home and finding ways to be a brat. So as it goes I work her out, she works me out and we both enjoy the rest of the day harmoniously. I am really glad that this group exists because aside from dogs being a great motivation to get active I truly believe that more people need to realize the benefit to the dog of keeping them active. So way to go anyone who is reading this because you probably feel the same way! If anyone follows Cesar Milan (aka Dog Whisperer) a walk is an essential need for a balanced dog. Having a rottweiler, I have felt the need to ensure my dog is a good example of responsible ownership and so far I have brought up a wonderful, friendly dog that will continue to push me to get fit.
