Hi, I'm Katherine, and I'm the maintainer of this group. I'm not actually from or live in any place in the UK; I made this group for a friend of mine. :)
I actually don't have a 'history with weight loss' per se, and I've just joined Calorie Count today. My reason was to keep a food diary.
As I said above, my reason for making this group was for my friend and so other people from the UK could get together and discuss their diets and support each other. Or just chat. I'm not entirely sure what people do in groups.
As far as interesting details, well, I have no job. I live in the United States with my mother, brother, sister, and niece, and I have a cat named Sammy. I've only been to the UK once, to England, but I might visit again when it's not ridiculously expensive to do so. I'm going to start university next year and study to become a librarian.
That's all there really is about me. :) Your turn.
Hello, my name is Rebecca and I've been a member of Calorie Count since mid-July. Unlike the maintainer, I do reside in the United Kingdom, in the Fenlands.
1. History with weight loss: I've been trying to lose weight for quite a long time, but I have never had any real dedication towards it. It would start off with me deciding, yeah, now is the time for a diet! And then, by the end of the week, not really caring. Even with a dietician.
2. History with Calorie Count: As I said above, I joined in mid-July time. After reading about a woman who had gone through weight loss surgery, a few people had linked to diaries like these, and so I joined up
I had some kind of hit on the head, and I've been sticking to the diet since around the time I joined Calorie Count. It's funny, really; I told my dietician that I couldn't keep up with a food diary, but now I'll put foods inside before I even eat them! It's been a great help for me, and I've so far lost around two stone (14 kg).
3. Reason for joining this group: I don't chat on the main forum community, so this would be a nice place to get to know people from an area close to me. :) Also, it helps with products!
4. About myself: I'm eighteen, and am planning to start a life skills course in September. I'm hoping to atleast be at a healthy weight by my nineteenth birthday next year.
Hi, I'm Toria...28 and from West Yorkshire. I don't remember how long I have been using calorie count but I have been getting healthy and trying to lose weight since February 2007, I am doing it the slow and steady and sensible way and have so far managed to lose just shy of 4 stone, I still plan to lose another 2 stone - but am having a difficult time of it at the moment, having only lost around 4 pounds in the last 3 months :(

Hi, I'm Hayley, 18 and from Manchester. I've struggled with my body image from being about aged 10 even though I can see I was the skinniest little thing when I look back at photos. I dieted on and off throughout my teenage years with no particular success, mainly because of my lack of understanding of calories.
My weight rocketed up to about 150lbs around the time of my taking my GCSEs because I did nothing but sit around revising and comfort eating due to stress. (On my height of 5'1" and very small frame this made me severely overweight) My weight then fell naturally to about 130lbs in 2006 when I started college and became more active. Then over summer 2007 I gained about 8lbs and my clothes stopped fitting, I hadn't even really been happy at 130lbs so I decided to try weight watchers, this was the first time I'd been able to control my weight and I went from 138 to 116 between september and christmas 2007. Since then my weight has been yo-yoing, I lose 3-4lbs then something like a holiday comes up and I'll gain a few so I've been losing the same weight over and over, which is a little frustrating.
I joined calorie count in March hoping that counting calories would provide more successful weight loss than weight watchers but my weight has still been following the same up and down trend. A lot of people say that I don't need to lose anymore weight but I feel I'd be much happier and a bit healthier if I were 10-15lbs lighter, mainly because I eat so much more healthily when I'm trying to lose, when I'm maintaining a little too much chocolate creeps into my diet to fill up the calories.
I joined this group because I'm hoping to find more low calorie food ideas available in English shops and restaurants, I feel there are a lot more alternatives for the calorie concious in America.
At the moment I'm a student, just finished my A levels and about to progress to medical school in a few weeks, which I'm very excited about! I like reading anything and everything, shopping, walking and skiing (once a year when I get the chance!) I'm also into music and play the guitar and the flute but nowhere near as much as I should because I'm always too busy.
I've worked in the bakery Hampsons/Sayers as a Saturday girl for the past year and I'm now doing part time hours over summer, just wanted to share that with all you Britain's who can appreciate how nice their carrot cake is and how much torture it presents me with working there surrounded by all those gorgeous cakes for 20 hours a week!
That was a little longer introduction than I intended, but oh well, thanks for reading :)
Hi, I'm Louise and I am 63 years old but still feel about 16 which makes me younger than you Hayley. I am here because I want support in losing about 20lbs. They seem to be the same 20lbs I have been trying to lose over the years Although my goal weight is now much higher than it was when I was younger. I weight exactly 13 stone (182 pounds) and would like to be 11 1/2 stone (about 160 pounds). Thatwould be my ideal weight, so you see I'm not greedy.
My problem is that I live alone and have no structure to my day or meals. i just grab whatever there is: Icecream? Have three or four cones for lunch. Bad habits.
I am hoping to learn and get support and talk about these things, as it can be difficult to talk to skinny friends who really don't appreciate the problem.
Hi I'm Keziah from Leicester. i'm 26, 5'8" and currently weigh 207.6Lbs(14st 11lbs)
1. History with weight loss: I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 19 and put on 3stone in 6months. I went from 11.5stone to 14.5stone. Very scary and it didn't really stop till i was 22 when i peaked at 16.5 stone(231lbs) then i cut out sugary drinks and food and managed to lose a stone! after that i have joined weight watchers 2 or 3 times and the lightest i've been in the past 3 years is 13stone.
2. History with Calorie Count: I joined about 3 weeks ago, really just needed some perspective i think!
3. Reason for joining this group: Everyone on here seems to be American! nothing against them at all but it would be nice to be able to chat to people who have the same problems as me when shopping in our stupid supermarkets!!!
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am in the process of becoming a prison warden, i live with a flatmate who can eat a mountain and not put any weight on and i have a very sweet tooth.
Hello All, 10 members, what do we do now?Any tips for weight loss, or a particular menu that works for you, even some low cal nibbles .How about checking in every day with exercise report .or keeping on track for 21 days with our slimming plans.I did find that our American cousins' diet is so different from ours ,in the staple foods and foods that we do have similar ,are named different.
I have been on holiday and have eased of on my slimming , tomorrow the 27th. I start back and am setting my weightloss goal of 4 -6 lbs. a month. This is not dramatic but acheivable.
Day 1, will be 6 bananas and skimmed milk, as will days 2 and 3. Then it will be ww points . I am an on-line member but will not be renewing my membership ,shall stick to calorie count particularly if this UK group gets of the ground. Any ideas would be good.
Hi All!
1. History with weight loss: I've always been critical of my weight, wasted my teens with an ED, gained a bit in college, learned to be a better eater doing weight watchers, and now I'm trying to reduce my high body fat percentage and gain some muscle.
2. History with Calorie Count: I've been on since earlier this year. I haven't accomplished much outside of maintaining and becoming a bit stronger, but that's still something.
3. Reason for joining this group: I'm new to the UK. I moved here December 29, 2007 with my English husband, whose visa was up. I had spent the prior 13 years in New York.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I work for an investment bank. I have a cat. I love to do distance cycling. I have a terrible sweet tooth. Thus far, I think London is a wonderful place to live, and I've been enjoying seeing the countryside.

6 bananas and skimmed milk? is that it? Personnaly i have found the best thing is to plan three decent meals a day with lots of veg and some snacks in between. I've replaced bread/toast with Pitta as it seems to fill me up more and i eat less. My worst habbit is eating too many sweet things. i really need to just stop buying them! lol
Hope this group does take off. Be good to have people to share stuff with.
Good luck everyone :)
Yes, for 3 days only . I was sitting in hospital and opened this book that was around and that is what I read but only for 3 days then you must not go back to the old eating habit but start the healthy eating plan, which is your Breakfast (must have) Lunch and Dinner , plenty of fruit and veg. Thought it could do no harm to try it
Hi! My name is Georgina and I live Oxfordshire in the UK. I joined CC today - never used it before but I've been on the look out for something just like this for quite some time. I'm 22 and just finished my University degree. During the first 2 years at uni, with the drinking, late nights and grabbing anything and everything to eat when I got a chance I managed to put on over 2 stones (24lbs). I was actually over a stone overweight to begin with. In my 3rd year I made a conscience effort to watch what I ate, and generally take better care of myself.
It took me 9 months but I managed to shift those 2 stones. But I've found now that my weight has plateaued so I'm making every efort to lose the remaining stone and a half. I intend to lose this before next summer, so that I can actually wear a bikini for the first time ever!
I studied art at university, in particular photography, but I love drawing and painting. Since graduating, I've moved back home and am working as a designer in Oxford. I am currently looking for jobs in London because I am moving there with my boyfriend in February.
Hope to speak to lots of you soon :)
Hi everyone.
I'm actually a Canadian girl - but living in the UK. Been here for 8 months now - good times. I used to live here when I was younger...
Anyways - started seriously trying to lose weight as of July 1st - CC has been GREAT for me ... I'm down 18.5lbs and half way to my goal. I haven't seen the 150's on the scale in - oh - around 8 years! I'm 6lbs away and can't wait to see that number.
I live in Kent and work in London (St James/Mayfair).
Good luck to everyone!!
Hi everyone
I'm Steph, I am 19, I am actually from Southampton which is on the south-coast. I go to university and study Media, Culture and Production and I hope to become a Primary School teacher. I live at home and hardly live the student lifestyle, which can be a shame to be honest! I am currently on the biggest summer holiday ever... May-basically October... it's crazy!!
I am a yo-yo dieter and an emotional eater... I eat when I am really happy and I eat when I am sad and I eat when I am bored... hence the yo-yo thing... I started on this site on the 4th of August 2008 at 176lbs (about 12 and a half stone) and I am about 166lb which is just under 12 stone. (29th August 2008)
I have been on this site for about a month now and it's been awesome, it's made me feel guilty and amazingly happy at the same time and it's just what I need!
I joined this group because I was born and bred in the UK and still live here so it's nice to speak to people who know what you're talking about!!
Is that enough info? I hope so!!

Hi everyone, I live in Hertfordshire. I have had a weight problem since the age of about 5. Tried all my life to lose weight no luck. Spent most of my life over 20stone, despite low-fat milk and grilled food and all kinds of diets, decided that NONE work. In the past I have tried to count calories and stick to 1000 a day but it is not realistic.
Found CC on 30th July 08 and found it helps to log everything and good to look back and check over earlier days. I now know that I must have failed in the past as my body goes into starvation mode and my metabolic rate has shut down. I like the rating on each day helps keep me on track. Have just lost 2stone so am over the moon. It is best to think that this is a way of life and not a diet. Keep to around 1500 calories a day and allow yourself some treats. I joined this site for the support it can give, the best advice I have learnt so far is.... You dont drown by falling in the river, only if you stay there!!! It makes me feel less bad if I give in to temptation. In the past I would go off the diet for days, now I think of that saying and pull myself up within the hour and stick to my planned meals.
About me; I am 57 but also feel inside I am much younger. I am married with 2 grown up sons and retired. I love cookery shows, antique shows, going to the theatre, reading, anything to do with history and who-done-it mystery programmes Morse or Wexford etc.
Good luck to you all hope the group can grow.
Hi I'm Ashley, I'm 22 from Hertfordshire and I'm looking to lose around a stone (or a little more if possible).
1. History with weight loss: Ive never had too much of an issue with weight, although it does run in my family. We are all small framed and short (mum and me are both 5ft 3) and put all our weight on around our tummys (which isnt good!). My mum reached 15 stone a couple of years ago but has since got down to around 10 1/2 stone. I know that I am always going to have to be careful with my weight.
I have a history of depression and during that year i lost a lot of weight. My philosophy over the past 4 years has been that id rather be a little heavier and happy. This is now coming to haunt me and i'm not so happy with that philosophy any more. Hence i want to lose some weight.
2. History with Calorie Count: I have only been on here a few days but it has helped me stick to eating well already. Previously when i have tried to diet and not keep record i have given up within a day or 2!
3. Reason for joining this group: Like others i'm fed up of the American ways of dieting and the types of food they eat, so hopefully will get some good British ideas from this group.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am currently a trainee accountant after graduating with a maths degree a year ago. I live at home with my mum and brother, but have 3 half siblings who live with my dad and step-mum and who are all moving to Oz soon :(. I have one cat and I love skiing and my new found interest is my Salsaburn class. Its an aerobics class but dancing to merengue and salsa.
Sorry bit long, had more to say than I thought!!
(p.s. for anyone who normally snacks on sweets, i have found grapes help!!!)
Hi, snboard851, Glad to meet another from Herts. Good luck this time.
For snacks I like the caramel snack-a-jacks. there are sweet and if you buy the jumbo ones they are only 51 caloris each and if you nibble them with a hot drink I find they are filling and satifying. Also for a savoury snack an oxo in a mug of hot water is waming on a cold day.
Hello , I love the caramel snack a jacks ,also salt and vinegar flavour. They last longer than a packet of crisps and you do feel like you have had something.
Will try the oxo drink we used to have bovril years ago ,unfortunately we also had a meat pie along with it, lol.
Hi I'm Paula I've been a member of CC for some months now, unfortunately I've also been in denial about wanting to loose a considerable amount of weight and making way too many excuses not to make the effort and commitment it takes to get to my goal.
I'm 36 and about to get married next year, besides this we are also hoping to start a family asap. Unfortunately I'm not releasing eggs and the NHS will not give me the drugs I need to help me fall pregnant until I've got down to a BMI of 35 or less which means I have to loose about 140lb.
I have been heavy all my life and tried to diet since the age of 11 when I started secondary school and my weight suddenly became an issue!!! I think I've tried most diets with varying amounts of success.
I went to Slimming World for about 2 years and lost around 70lb and have even managed to keep that off, but maintaining for 2+ years is starting to get tedious and I need a new perspective on things.
If there is anyone out there who wants support, as I do, then please drop me a line.
Don't be shy, I won't bite
Best wishes Paula xx
