And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hey Everybody,
I've just discovered this site & it looks like good one! I've noticed the last 2 months that I've begun to get a little heavier in the arse & thighs, and a tiny bit on my belly... not good. So I thought I'd check into this group and see what ideas you might have to help me get rid of this extra flab! (I live in Paris aka: land of the stick people. I feel soo self-conscious sometimes!)
I think it's mostly due to lifestyle changes - I've been working a LOT more than usual and as a result, cooking/working out less & snacking more. (Sometimes my husband makes dinner - and it's not always greens - potatoes, hotdogs, pasta etc.) I have a gym membership, and in past years I've had no problems making the time, but for now, I am just feeling exhausted by the time I arrive home (between 8pm & 11pm) - so working out has not been easy.
Basically I'm looking for motivation & tips that will help me reach my goal of losing about 4Kilos in the space of a month or two. I miss that really toned feeling, and I do NOT enjoy the inner-thighs touching one bit!!
I'm looking forward to watching this board & seeing what you've all done to get into shape. Including any jump-start diets that I can use to not only motivate myself, but retrain my brain to not want that chocolate in the afternoon lol.
Thanks everyone, talk to you soon,
Shannon in Pari
Hi Everyone!
Here's a little about myself:
1. History with weight loss: I went from 135 to 115, 5 years ago. The last 3 years though I have been bouncing around 120. I am obsessed with food and think about it all the time. Sometimes I binge eat. I felt so frustrated last night after weighing in at 124.5 (the highest in over a year) and I realized I can't do this on my own.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I've been on CC since May. I actually hit my goal weight after 2 months, but then slid back up 5 pounds. That makes me want to cry inside.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I can't do it on my own. It's only 5 pounds, but it may as well be 50. I need to be held accountable and need support.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I just started graduate school, I work (very) part time at a coffee shop, I teach one aerobics class a week (I started this summer), I try to work out 5 days a week, and I do stand up comedy once a week as a hobby. I know one of my secrets to losing the weight and helping my attitude with food is to stay busy and fulfilled. I think this fall with classes starting I will do just that.
Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Hi, i joined today (Aug 27) for the third time. this time i have to be serious. im 22 years old, and i am 5'7" and 140 lbs which puts me at a bmi of around 21: completely within the healthy range. unfortunately, my doctor has told me that i have to lose about 10lbs because i have gained 20 in a year. furthermore, i have gone through two horrible bouts of gastro enteritis which has left me intestines and stomach bereft of helpful bacteria. finally, my doctor is suspicious that my love affair with junk food is to thank for my exhaustion and depression.
i have tried dieting several times. i have done weight watchers (lost 25 lbs and was within a dangerously underweight bmi range), Body For Life (lost 15lbs before putting my body into shock when my blood pressure dropped significantly), and most recently P90X which is inhumanly difficult to stick to...i last 5 weeks and the only real difference i had noticed was that my flexibility was definitely improved.
I have been working in the service industry as a hostess, server and bartender for the last 7 years and have just received my education degree. now that i have quit my job at the restaurant i am hoping that i can start taking this healthier lifestyle a little more seriously.
i find that my biggest problem is that food is my only real vice. i dont smoke, drink, do drugs or indulge in any other unhealthy pastime. i reward myself with food and when im sad, it's a comfort for me. i actually cannot picture my life without delicious fatty food in it. healthy food makes me cringe lol.anyone who has any advice for me to help me with my willpower, which is horrible, or with suggestions about how to deal with sugar addiction please let me know. in exchange, anyone with questions about the three diets that i have used should feel free to ask me, i will answer any questions that i can with as much honesty as possible.
-Dani
Food is also my only vice. When we go out for drinks it's easy for me to know I've had enough after 2 drinks and I honestly don't want any more. But with food, I want to inhale the entire buffet table. It's so comforting and tastes so good. I wish my will power with everything else would translate into my relationship with food.
I'm 24 and it's been this way as long as I can remember. Will it always?
Hi there - let's do this! When is weigh in? Weekly? I am 5'3" and started a couple weeks ago at 120 - lost a half pound.... then lost 2 pounds last week. However, it is weird that this morning I was up back to 120 so not sure what is going on... water - hopfully! I've been biking like mad... 29 miles on Sunday and 19 yesterday. I should have lost - not gained! arghhhh....
1. HIstory - none really with loss - been lucky not to have gained all my life, but quit smoking 4 1/2 mos ago and here I am - up 8 pounds. Goal is 112.
2. Just started with CC
3. I need help!
4. Just started biking and love it!! Like yoga too.
Let me know how this works!!
Hi there!
I'm a 27yr old grad student in Houston. I'm fairly active in spurts throughout the year....Right now, I'm training with Team in Training for a 100-mi bike ride in late September. I've put on several pounds during this training period, whcih I'm sure some are from muscle gain (can you say sequoia legs??), but I want to lose a few of them and get my flat tummy back! After the bike ride, I will be training for my 3rd Half-marathon. I just joined calorie count to get that extra umph in my routine, and hoping it will jog me out of the weight rut.
Hey cmroche98 - wow - I would think you'd have lost weight in training. How many miles do you ride on a daily basis - or weekly? 100 miles is alot of miles!! 29 is the most I've done so far and that was just this past Sunday. Have you eaten more than normal during training?
Ok, I'm 30 years old. 120lb and about 5'4"... I never struggled with my weight until my babies were born. I had 2 in less than 3 years, and needless to say my body was not back to "normal" after the frist one before I found myself pregnant with the second. But now my youngest is 2 1/2 and I am still hovering at that 5-10 lbs left mark. I just can't seem to get that last few pounds off and get back to MY normal. So I joined this group hoping for som inspiration/motivation to keep at it even though I have been on plateau for about a year! I am an artist and I work from home most of the time. I do have plenty of time to excersize, so I need some help finding some new, fun things to do. I get very bored and struggle with routine. (thus the non- 9 to 5 type job)... Just hoping for some support and friendly encouragement I guess.
Hi,
I am 47, 120 lbs, 5'2". For over 20 years I weighed 93 pounds and was way too skinny but couldn't gain any weight. During this time I gave birth to 7 children ranging in age from 28 to 9. Maybe it was giving birth to that last baby, I don't know, but now I would prefer to be around 112 lbs. And, being picky, I want it all off my abdomen which is a little pot belly. My job keeps me fairly fit and I like to walk and do about 45 minutes 5 times per week. Since my job is on a contract basis, I will be off for the next two months and am planning on increasing my exercise. I am finding that my large muscles in the front of my legs(what are they called again?) are not nearly as strong as I would like so I need to get my bike out and do some riding. I am not finding it hard to keep my calories down most of the time as I do not care for sweets or soda. I am thinking perhaps my metabolism is succumbing to age and slowing down. Although I realize that to some people my size would be their ideal, it is not my ideal, not do I find it comfortable for me. I am looking for people who will empathize with this.
Hello,
I am 59 (next month).
I am retired (yippeeeee).
There never seems enough hours in the day, as I (with my other half), work two allotments, so no excuse for not ensuring that we both have our five a today.
I would dearly like to lose between 13 to 21 lbs, but realistically this will be 6 to 13 lbs.
I am 5 foot and weigh in at 125 lbs, I will be 59 next month, hey now that could be my target date for losing my extra baggage.

KL - I have almost exactly your stats. I am 47, 117 and 5' 3". I just dropped 3 pounds, but started this at 120. I recently started biking and love it! My goal is also 112.
Hi,
I have always been fairly body-conscious, much more so when I was younger - I'm now 37. My daughter just turned 2 last week and after giving birth I feel so much more motivated to try to provide a healthy role model for her by eating and exercising. I don't want her to have body issues and I hope that I can ingrain in her the right way to eat so that she doesn't have to struggle with it like so many people do, either by being overweight or underweight.
I read about CC in my Women's Health magazine and I started using it in January 2008. I used the food journal pretty diligently for about 3 months but haven't been using it consistently since than because I tend to eat fairly well and it seemed to take a little too much time.
I've joined this group because I've thoroughly enjoyed my summer and ate a little too much. Anyway, my goal weight is 105, I'm 5' 2" so it's not unrealistic but it is skinny. Right now, I'm 117 which is on the high side for me. I'm usually around 112. But I know maintaining your weight is a life time journey so I'm not overly upset about it.
I am happily married and have a 2 year old daughter and two step sons - 7 & 10. I also have 2 pugs. I work full-time and pretty much feel like I have no time for anything outside of work, house work and exercise. The weekly goal is to run/do cardio 5x a week and strength train 2x a week. I usually get the cardio in but the strength training usually is last on the list.
Sorry for the long rant, if anyone reads it but it still feels pretty good to write it. :)
Hi everyone,
I've hovered around 135 most of my life and since I started my new job exactly a year ago I've gained almost exactly 10 lbs. (I was 144.5 on my digital scale this morning and I'm 5'8"). It's completely my fault - I work long hours and I eat when I'm tired, stressed, frustrated--the usual. I have a long way to go to break all these bad habits I've accumulated over the past year and I'd love some help and support from people in the same situation. Hopefully this group will help keep me motivated.
Lauren

G'day,
I'm Skippy, I'm 17 and from the great sunny land of Australia. I'm trying to get healthy and lose about 10kgs (now 6kgs!!) that I put on as a result of change of diet and going into an office job. I would love to tone up my stomach like it used to be and lose the butt/thigh flab.
I loved reading this thread because it seems like so many people are in the same boat as me! I would love to hear from you.
So how is this done? Do we report stats on a specific day or what? I am a little confused as to what is done in this group? Anyone?
Hello, I'm Cristina; I'm 5'2" and 27 yrs old
1. History with weight loss: was 165.4 lbs in Apr 2006 when I joined Spark People; I was 136 lbs on my wedding day (Nov 2006). Then lost some more to a all time low at 122 lbs in Feb 2008;right now I'm at around 127-128 lbs and want to get down to 118-120 lb
2. History with Calorie Count: sort of new
3. Reason for joining this group: I need a group to keep me
motivated. The one on SP which was my fav pretty much disintegrated :(
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm a travel writer for a US company, I'm married to a lovely guy (been living together for 6 yrs out of which 2 as hubby and wife), we don't have kids; we have 2 budgies as pets.
Hey everyone! Well my name is April and I'm 5'7 and 132 lbs.
1.History with weight loss: I was always kinda chubby in junior high and high school but when I went to college my metabolism kicked in and I actually lost 30 lbs. I had my little boy when I was 21 and was actually one of those lucky ones who lost the baby weight pretty quickly. During my pregnancy I ate right (absolutely no eating for two) and walked 2 miles every day up until my 8th month. Recently though I've been so busy with work and my son that I've let my own weight kind of slide....
2. History with Calorie Count: Never counted calories before....I've always just kind of ate right and tried to excerise as much as I could.
3. Reason for joining this group: Just thought I'd be nice to lose weight with the help of a supportive group who understands my goals =)
4. I'm 24 (turning 25 in December), I have a 3 year old little boy who keeps me both super busy and super entertained. Never been married (thank god lol)...I work 40+ hours a week at my day job at a car dealership and another 10-15 hours on the weekends cocktail waitressing in a sports bar. I love to sing (always wanted to be a rockstar) and write songs and poetry. If I could find the time I'd love to start reading again....
1. History with weight loss: I am part of that stereotypical group who can eat anything and not gain really much wait. Well that was until I took a desk job 3 years ago and started heading toward age 30.
2. History with Calorie Count: none really - I thought I knew what things were but just today I have been awakened!
3. Reason for joining this group: My boyfriend who is a few years older than me has always been one to count calories. He found this website to help with his own counting. I like to join websites so I thought this would be a good one. I really didn't know how many calories were in the things I eat. I knew what I was eating wasn't good for me but I had no idea that it was so many. I also have a body figure that makes me gain all of my weight near my stomache and HIPS! So anything I can do to avoid and lose weight there is greatly appreciated.
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I have 2 great dogs who are my children. I work in sales but it keeps me at my desk most of the day and I can spend lots of time eating out if I would let myself.
Hello everyone!
1. I've never actually lost weight. I mean, besides fluctuating 1-3 pounds, which happens all the time. I'm 19, 5'7" and about 135lb (depending on the day, thats average) And I have just slowly and gradually gained weight over my lifetime. In middle school I was about 120 ish and felt like I was.. not fat.. but soft I guess. Little chipmunk cheeks and no real shape. And then I grew upwards and everything kind of stretched out. My friends and family always told me I was really thin but I think it's just because I'm taller than everybody that they don't really see the parts of me that bug me. I don't necessarily MIND my weight. I don't think I'm fat but if I lost any weight, that would be a big plus. I love food, and don't want to give it up, and I love healthy food too so I don't eat terribly either.
2. I joined CC like a year ago to help me keep track of my food while I'm in school because our cafe food is terrible. I try to keep track but I just picked it up again for this school year because I do not want to gain any weight this year.
3. I'm joining this group because I have never been able to lose weight. I have always been active, my entire life, and I'm beginning to think it's impossible for someone who has always been active to lose weight without doing something extreme, like cutting calories a ton or over doing the activities (aka never stopping).
4. You see, I'm in Track. I run as a sport (I know, crazy right?) and high jump. I'm also in my college's gymnastics club where a bunch of old gymnasts get together three times a week to mess around and see what we still got, and work on stuff we might want back, or never had. Not only that, I work with my college's Athletic Department and for this season, chase soccer balls that go astray during games, so thats more activity. I have a small campus and nothing takes more than 5 minutes to get to, and I plan on trying out for cheerleading in the spring, which I need to get even more in shape for. When I am not doing any of those other things, I am sitting.. or napping. This may be the problem to my weight loss but I really don't feel like doing anything else after I have a days worth of activities. Of course, there are days with nothing, but that is catch up on homework (which leads to snacking sometimes.. im trying to curb that)
Okay, I think I've just written you a novel.. I appologize!
Hey guys,
I'm Brenda and I actually just joined CC today, and I think I'm really going to enjoy my use of these forums. I'm currently 5'1 and i weight about 125 pounds. I was around 140 pounds, but I went on an extremely strict diet before the summer started, when I weighed around 120 pounds. I gained some of the weight back by the end of the summer, which I was very disappointed about but at least I managed to stay pretty active over the summer. I struggled with a binge eating problem after I ended my diet, which was probably the cause behind my weight gain. I just recently had another episode of binge eating, so I figured I needed to do something to get back on track, so voila, here I am. Hopefully I can get control of this problem and lose these last 10 pounds to get to my goal weight. I try to get to the gym as often as possible, but some days I just feel wayyyy too tired. I do cheerleading for my high school and I'm planning on doing track in the winter, but we'll see how that works out. I think with a little more motivation I might be able to succeed at my goal, which I'm hoping to get from you guys. :]
