Hi everyone. I am a 24 year old finance professional in nyc. I am 5'8/5'9; 145 lbs (a healthy weight) but would like to get down to 135-138. From December to April I lost 8 lbs by watching what I ate and adding weights to my exercise routine. Now, however, I'm stuck around the mid-140s. I joined the group to get support and ideas on how to get to my goal weight and stay there. I love to exercise but really exercise to eat whatever I want but as I get older I am having a harder time losing with this philosophy so that is why I joined Calorie Counter to fully understand how much I'm putting into my body and how much im actually burning.
Hi! I'm 129lbs but constantly struggly to reach 120. My weight will change by a couple of pounds but Im never able to get it under 127, despite exercising almost daily and being careful with what I eat. Any healthy (vegan) snack ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I find my downfall to be snacky throughout the day. Thanks!
Hi all!
My name is Lauren and I live about 15 minutes outside of Philly on the Jersey side. I just got married in June and am starting my second year of grad school in a few days. I am 5'3, and in college, I went from 132lbs to 153lbs. I started working out twice a day and eating healthier and got down to 125lbs. That was about 9 years ago. Since then I have fluctuated between 118 and 130. Right now, I am 124. My ultimate goal has always been 117, so of course, I could only ever get down to 118, and that was pretty short-lived! If I could get these last 7 pounds off, I would be so proud. I think i just need some friendly encouragement on the days where all I want to do is lay in bed and eat ice cream, gym be d@mned (lol)!
Also, I'm signed up to run a 5K for Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation in four weeks, and right now, I can only run ~1.5 miles (and that took me 6 weeks of trianing!). I'm scared that I will take an hour to finish and make a fool of myself, but I'm commited to the cause. So if anyone has any advice or encouragement, I'd love to hear it! Thanks :o)
Fruit Cream (a healthy alternative to ice cream)
If you have a food processor, here is a good snack recipe full of vitamins, antioxidants, healthy fats, and even fiber and protein!
~165 calories per serving, makes 6 servings:
- 2 large bananas
- 1 cup fresh strawberries
- 2 cups frozen blueberries
- 1 avocado (yes, avocado!)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- (and for non-vegans, 1 heaping tablespoon low-fat cottage cheese)
Just throw everything into the food processor, then portion out into six small tupperware containers and freeze. Depending on how long it's in the freezer, you may have to defrost to eat. I usually pop one in the microwave on DEFROST for about 45 seconds - ENJOY!
hey, guys. no weight loss yet, after 1 1/2 weeks of trying. i have decreased calories, but haven't reached my goal. it's been b/c of habitual night eating every single time (right before bed). any tips on how to break the habit? i did really well with exercise last week, best i've done in years. goal this week: same amount exercise, decrease cals by 100 for next 3 weeks till i get to my target calories. i'm afraid to do it all at once, hoping slow and steady will work for me!

I'm Anne.
I started counting calories in 2005. At that time I was a smoker and was not active at all, in spite of having been a competitive athlete when I was younger.
I went from 162-122 lbs over the course of about a year and I did it by quitting smoking and taking up running.
I have never started smoking again and I've been trying to keep up with the running. Over the years I have run several half marathons and a few marathons.
BUT over the last year or two I have been totally off track. I haven't been running as much and I've been eating as though I'm training for a marathon :( Technically I SHOULD be training for a marathon because I'm registered for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon (September 27).
I'm back up to 130-132 lbs and I would really like to get a grip. I'd like to run and complete the race on the 27th of September. I'd also like to get down to 127-126 or so by then. I have three weeks so if I'm really careful and really motivated, it would be possible - in theory.
After the race I'd like to continue with my weigh loss program and get down to 120 or even 119. I'm short and stocky (all thighs) so 119 would be ideal I think. I think my running would be greatly improve by reducing my body fat.
Maybe I could qualify to run Boston... one can always dream.
The main challenge will be to do long runs with a calorie deficit.
Anne
Hello I'm Ashton. This is my first time to use calorie count, but I really think I'm going to love it. I just married the love of my life in June of this year. And we're both settling into the married life after about three months. We've both gained some weight.
My husband was in Iraq for a seven months and I gained about 10 pounds until February of 2009 when I lost all of it. I was doing great until he came home again and we settled into our routine. I've continued to gain weight since then and I really need to loose it. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I became another fat military wife! I was really happy with the way I looked when I met him so I'd like to get back there.
I work at a bank in Lubbock, Texas and pretty much sit around on the computer all day. By default of being a banker, I have food available to me ALL day. (not to mention o-so-satisfying sodas!) Another one of my goals is to learn to resist those cravings for sweets and sodas in the breakroom!
My husband and I live here with our three kids (a cat and two dogs).
Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:

Okay here goes, I have never had to worry about weightloss until now. I have an extremely thick family. (They all think its cute to be overweight) After marriage and a set of twins I notice the weight doesn't fall off like it use to.
I have never counted calories so I will see how that goes.
I joined the group to chat and see other peoples tips on weightloss.
I have 2 daughters a loving husband need to lose at least 10 lbs. I have a problem with weight and I tend make a lot of remarks about weight. I am hoping to change this about me as well. Maybe if I talk to u guys about weight I won't impose or make my friends at home feel bad.
Nice to e-meet everyone.
Three years ago I lost 65 pounds on weight watchers online. In the past year I've gained 10 pounds and put 3 inches back on my waist. Nothing fits me anymore. When I asked the doctor about it I was told I'm eating too much. After all my work losing the weight I don't see myself deliberately gaining it back. I walk everyday for a half hour, do some calisthenics each day, and try to watch what I eat. I'm getting very discouraged.
I'm 62 years old, have hypothyroidism and arthritis. I teach general music 2 days a week and sub when called on the other days, so I'm on my feet all day.
I have 3 grown children. I love to read when I have the time.
Hi: Stats show I could lose more than 10 pounds but I'd be very pleased at 10 pounds lighter. Lost about 40 pounds in 2000 and have kept it off until the last 4 months, weight creeping up, now 6 pounds.......from 162 to 168, I am 5'5", female, 56 yrs. I exercise 6-7 days a week and have since 1981. I've been averaging 1750 cal a day, mostly healthy and CC suggests 1600 which I've been doing 4 days now, not a problem.
Just very scared the weight is coming back, like a bad penny! It has seemed in past (I've lost/gained weight several times since I was 16 yrs old), it would sneak up on me. This time I'm wanting to catch it before it's a problem again.
So, I seem to have exercise under control, the 1600 calories doesn't seem to be an issue......I'll just hang with you all if I can, to help me stay on track...........especially if the scale doesn't move.....I've had THAT happen many times. When I started my big diet in 2000 that lost me 40 pounds, I counted calories (1700), exercised and ate 3 healthy meals plus a snack a day. Lost steadily most weeks. Then stopped at 161. For the last 8 years have constantly wanted to lose, and should be happy I've maintained! Never satisfied! So, now that I'm creeping up, I'll be happy to get to 161 again!
Thanks for listening.
Try herbal teas instead of soda, or diet soda if you really have to........if you're drinking regular sugar soda, I would think you could lose 10 pounds with no effort by subtituting 0 calories drink.
I say tea because of the ritual of brewing it, kind of fun to do and then enjoy. Takes time.
After two weeks you'd probably kick the soda habit.
Well, good luck.

Congrats on losing 65 pounds, especially at 59 years old.......my experience is it gets harder as I get older, to keep off the weight. You are to be commended.
Also, losing weight is a blast! Maintaining the loss is not as rewarding, you don't have that great feeling of seeing the scale go down, or clothes getting looser, or muscles showing that never did..........so the motivation is not as obvious. I know, I kept mine off almost 9 years and ALWAYS wanted to lose more and now it's going UP! I should have been happy where I was.
How many calories are you eating now versus how many you ate while losing weight on WW? If you ARE eating more then there's your answer. When I think about why I might have gained these few pounds at first I didn't think I was doing anything different but now realize I'm probably not as active, other than exercise, as I had been the first half of this year. I was walking a friends' dog almost every evening in addition to my exercise. So lots of times we need to be honest with ourselves and look deep into what we are doing.
You DO have to talk to your doctor since you are a hypothyroid patient, that is probably always an issue, right?
And, you seem like an active person, sometimes you might just need to "change it up", like instead of walking, bike, instead of calisthenics, weights???? Or yoga????
I am joining this group to keep me motivated and to help me reach my goal.
Just starting this program this past Monday and hope to loose the weight by end of October. I used this site a couple of years ago and by login my meals and tracking my workouts I was able to loose up to 10 pounds…. Over the last few weeks I have been noticing that the pounds are starting to come back and at my age it is not that easy to loose weight. .. Wish me luck! ![]()

Hello, My name is Glenda. I joined calorie count today.
In March of 09 I was told I am a diabetic. I have lost around 20 lbs. since then and I have 10 more to lose.
I am one who knows how I should eat but I find it very hard to be consistent. In other words my willpower is not to good most of the time.
Something about myself: I have been married 42 years, to the same man, a wonderful husband. I have three children, married with their own families.
My husband and I are retired. We are christains and have attended the same church for 23 years. God is so good and we are so blessed.
Hello, I'm Krista at about to turn the big 4-0 next month. While I've always been healthy, my weight can fluctuate between 123 to 130 in any given year (depending if I watch what I eat...or not). I tried Weight Watchers which had valid points, but it took me 8 months to drop 8 pounds. The hardest part was keeping off the weight and staying at that size -- a struggle on my 5' 3" frame. So, I'm adding lots of activity and watching what I eat. Found CC to help me "monitor" what I am doing in hopes that it will help me lose the weight and then keep it off...for the most part.
Willpower is tougher the older you get...so I"m hoping CC will help me stay mindful of the power this online tool might have in my goals. My goal is to reach 123 and stay there...so that as I age, I keep a healthy overall body.
Hi Everyone,
I am Amy and stumbled upon this website in search of some calorie information. I am 32 years old, 5'6 and currently 137lbs. I have a goal weight of 130 but so far my will power sucks.
I am finding it to be harder to keep the weight off the older that I get. I just had my third baby last Dec. and worked off the 40lbs I gained in 6 months. My downfall is the weekends. I treat myself to whatever I would like and I pretty much gain everything back that I lost during the week. I would like to make a healthy change for the rest of my life instead of the binge eating on the weekends. One good change I have made is that I have been running for the last three months and have fallen in love with it again. I have not run since H.S. and found that I love the thrill of working myself hard during my workout and reap the rewards of knowing I did it afterwards.
I hope to get support and use the tools this website offers to lose those last 7lbs for my ultimate goal.
Hi. I'm Megan.
1. History with weight loss: I have a history with depression which brings on the eating and weight gain. I know that eating well and exercising and staying healthy helps this, soooo I'm working at it once again to get to my goal weight and to keep off the weight.
2. History with Calorie Count: I've been on calorie count for about a year. it has been very helpful in keeping track, but looking for more of a community and a bit of support now.
3. Reason for joining this group: I lost about 15 lbs in 2008 and early 2009. But now I have about 7-8 lbs left to lose and I've just hit a wall. Wanting support and to offer support to others.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Hm...I'm 30 yrs old, I've started running longer distances which is totally new to me.
Also, looking for 1-2 buddies for us to "stick together" and talk about how things are going with losing the weight and keeping it off. I hope to lose 5 lbs more by the end of October. Maybe that's a lofty goal, but I just keep putting it off.
