3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
And now just go ahead and make that first post!
I'll start with myself:
1) I just started my journey to a healthier life in May of 2008. My goal is to lose 35 lbs (so far I've lost 12!). I gained 20 lbs when I moved out of my family's home in El Paso and into my own apartment in Las Cruces. In April, I was told that my cholesterol was too high for my age. (I'm only 25! What a wake-up call!)
2) I started with CC in May as well and it really opened up my eyes. I realized that not only was I eating WAY too much, but I was eating all the wrong foods. Since I started, I've learned how to manage the kinds of foods I eat as well as the portions that I serve myself. I've had days where I've just about gone crazy trying to ignore the cravings for hot buttered popcorn or churros... and I've had days where I've totally given into the cravings as well. Above all, I hope this will teach me discipline and moderation.
3) I know some issues are specific to the borderlands, such as higher rates of diabetes as well as the yummy regional foods, so maybe we can support each other better this way. :)
4) I'm a student and I work at a museum part-time. I have a real menace of a dog that I just love to bits! Unfortunately, I also LOVE food and family get-togethers, and that's why I'm on this site. :)
Hello there... I'm glad to see a small group in the borderland....
1) Most people see me and think I'm pretty average weight... and I am, but for me to lose 20 pounds would be awesome. Starting AGAIN today at 170 hoping to get to 150 by Valentines. Doing 1400 calories/day... and exercise 4x/week to get there.
2) Have been on Calorie Count for a while...but never keep with it and although I would at times lose a little weight- I always seem to get it right back. I've enjoyed making friends on here-- and used to journal quite a bit.
3) Joining group to meet others with similiar goals and maybe there are some low calorie hot spots in the region? please do share if you know of any.
4) I'm a wife, mother and pediatric therapist. I'm almost 34 (on 11/22). I'm from Illinois, but have been in the southwest since 1998 and in EP,TX since 2006.
Welcome! Thanks for sharing. :) It looks like it's just you and me for now... LOL... If you have any other friends that you think would be interested in the group, please invite them.
he he... other friends in EP that are looking to lose weight? None that I can think of...maybe that's why I'm here... ![]()
I am brand new to this web sit and have been trying to diet for a while but something always seems to come up!
So, now I'm going to try to make exercise a priority. I work ten hours a day so there isn't much time after i get home from work to work out... but I'm gonna try. .

I hoping to encourage eachother to lose those pounds and live a healthier lifestyle. I am around 170 and have several too lose with my 5'3" frame.
Need to set goals and of course reach them hope we can support/encourage each other.
I am Robert,I am 42 years old and weigh 304 lbs.I am 6 feet tall and have just been diagnosed with diabetes.I have been heavy all my life and it never really bothered me.# weeks ago I had an abcess that put me in the hospital for % days and am still in rehab trying to get it closed up.I was just diagnosed with diabetes from the blood work the hospital took.I had no clue.I made a promise to myself that I will lose some weight and control the diabetes with diet and exercise.I am glad to see there is a group from this region because we all know good MEXICAN FOOD is hard not to eat.I have set my mind to eat healthier and with calorie count it is cool actually log your calorie intake, and as group we can do it!!!SI SE PUEDE
Welcome, Robert! :)
I love your positive attitude about this. You just went through a really rough experience and to top it off learned about having diabetes, yet you used it to pull yourself up instead of leting it bring you down. That's a great first step.
The site really IS awesome. It's helped me a lot in the past year. I've struggled to keep my weight down, fluctuated a lot, but at least it didn't keep INCREASING like it had been over the years, thanks to what I've learned on Calorie Count.
You'll find that this group is a little shy. I don't hear from them much, but it's always great to know that there are others there that are in the same boat and with the same general goal of leading a healthy life.
Again, welcome... and best of luck! :)
I am 49 year old female. I live in Alamogordo. Plain and smple, I am tired of being tired. My wieght is 160 and I am only 5'4". I want to get to 140 and I am trying calorie cycling.
Welcome Tiger! :)
You're starting with the same stats that I started with. I don't know why, but I think that's cool. Good luck!
Hello, i was looking to join some groups & i can't deny i fit into this one. I'm from Alamogordo, NM which is about an hour away from Las Cruces, Ruidoso, & El Paso all @ the same time in case you didn't know. It will be nice to talk to others who understand what i mean when i talk about weather mood swings. Lol! I'm 26 @ about 165lbs & looking to lose about 30lbs. I've been a CC member about a month & so far so good.
Believe it or not, I drive to Alamogordo when there isn't anything to do in Cruces, hahaha... So I know what you're talking about.
Welcome to the group! :)
