And now just go ahead and make that first post!
I'll start; I'm Kim. Mrs Dagle is an old alter ego from The Bad Seed. I lived in Tucson from 94-00 and currently have lived here since 2006. I gained tons of weight after I got married (11 years ago). I lost almost 30 pounds several years ago without deliberately dieting but gained it back (and then some). I began calorie counting in March after starting an exercise regimen in February. I've lost nearly 40 pounds since.
I was pretty strict with calorie counting until grief struck me hard from my separation. I'm now struggling to eat enough. Calorie Counting is helping me because I can log my food and use the analysis tool to gauge my nutrition. My favorite forum at Calorie Count plus is the fitness forum, where I have learned a lot of tips about exercising efficiently.
I created and joined this group so we can discuss local shopping options, favorite places to hang out, exercise and dine!
I'm separated, mom of one, looking for a job.
I'm Kurt.
Lived in Tucson from 69-79, and recently moved back in late 2005. I've been a member of CC since Mar. 07. Since the start I've lost 125 lbs. I hope to be at my goal weight by next spring (~35 more lbs.).
One of my favorite places to eat ( For my cheat dinner) is Sanchez's on Cortaro and Thornydale. I know there is better Mexican food elsewhere ( El Charro comes to mind), I just enjoy going there with friends and Fam. Egee's is great too (11 cals. per ounce!).
Besides my everyday workouts, my favorite place to exercise is (hiking) in the mountains around the Tucson area, especially the Rincons.
Hi, Kurt! Welcome!
I've never eaten at that Sanchez. Is it related to the one on Craycroft and Speedway? We ate there a lot because my husband likes it. I prefer Francisco's on Pima and Alvernon. I've tried to go to Mi Nidito (South Tucson) but it's either closed or packed with 2 hour waits.
Hi guys,
I have lived in Tucson since 2004, I am from Gainesville, FL by way of Seattle, WA and Los Angeles. I am here attending UA college of nursing/integrative medicine.
I have not had any serious weight issues until I began working on my doctoral degree. Now all the time at the computer has caught up with me. I never counted calories before, and this tool has been amazing! Who would have thought there were so many calories in food? Now that I know, I have successfully lost about 5 pounds. Also, finally broke down and bought an elliptical trainer, and use it faithfully. I feel much better since I started a regular aerobic exercise routine. I think more clearly and sleep better.
Good restaurants? I like Zivaz on Broadway, really good Mexican food!
Hi everyone,
I'm Jen- I have lived in Sahuarita for 6 years but in Arizona for almost 25 (except for a brief episode of 'trying to be closer to family in the midwest')
I love the desert and think it's so condusive to a healthy lifestyle.
I'm 45, married and a mom, also an artist and into natural healing/martial arts/meditation etc.
I've gained and lost 30 lbs several time and I'm done with it. I've lost 30 and was seeing the scale creeping so I got on here to track...love it.
With the gas prices I've been up there less and less! I like 4th ave and going to whole foods or trader joes, but dang! it's like 45 minute drive so it's maybe a monthy pilgramage...
Yeah, and that's why we don't come down to the more rural areas. I promised my son that we would take short road trips and I'm really wanting to visit Sonoita soon. Perfect weather for it. Gas was going down but now they're blaming Ike on a possible rise again.
Big Hello to our newest member, Tweety21872!!

Hi Tucson calorie counters!!
I've live in tucson for about 8 years now, moved here from san francisco when i was 14, i'm 22 years old now. i just graduated from the UofA in photography/studio art.
My past experience with weight loss is with weight watchers. I started going to meetings with my mom when i was 16 (we both needed it), and after a couple years i lost a total of 35 lbs. Very cool. I tried dieting before that but nothing seemed to work -- not knowing HOW to diet (or more like changing my lifestyle from eating garbage all the time to knowing what it is to drink water, exercise, eat healthy, etc). Thank god for WW.
I just joined calorie count. I live in the downtown area and ride my bike everywhere but i also work in a restaurant i'm part owner of, so there's FREE FOOD ALL THE TIME.............. not to mention, i'm the baker. i love to bake, but i'm rarely allowed to ingest my own pastries. i needed a little kick in the ass with my wanting to be more fit/lose weight mindset, and every diet/exercise/health question i ask on google seems to give me a caloriecount answer. SO i thought i'd join!! this website kicks major butt.
i joined this group because i'd like to meet some people in tucson who would like to maybe exercise with me. I just started doing yoga (at the ymca, at tucson yoga, with friends, and free classes in the park). i do yoga when/wherever i can. I love to run. I love to bike. I love to dance!
If you want an exercise buddy, i'm your girl!!
I also love to knit, sew, all that, i wish i had a dog but my room mate won't let me, i have an awesome boyfriend, i'm part owner of a business, i love to make things in general (like FOOD!), and i'm trying to stop it with the coffee and the ciggies. but it's oh so hard.
thanks for readin! <3 n
Hey everyone, I'm Denielle. I'm 23 years old and have lived in Tucson my entire life (minus a few months when I tried out Cali). I've been overweight most of my life and have never actively tried to lose before. When I've moved out I always drop weight, but I keep ending up back at home with all the snacks and homemade Mexican food. My best friend and I finally decided to do this together. We're pretty much the same height and weight, with the same limitations, so hopefully we'll work together pretty well.
I joined CC a while back but only used it once. The last couple of weeks I've been more active on it. I really like the toolbar because since I'm online a lot, it's a constant reminder of what I'm trying to do and how I'm doing.
Unfortunately, I don't feel my best friend is as determined to lose weight as I am, so while she goes along with it, I still don't feel she's all the support I need. That's why I'm looking to groups in hopes of some outside motivation.
Hi everyone,
I'm probably the old lady of the group.
I've been on the weight loss/gain roller coaster for most of my life since age 10. Now my best friend has diabetes, so I decided to join her in losing weight. I have a little hypertension, but nothing serious so far. I just joined Calorie Count on 3/13/09. (My skinny little doctor has been nagging me for several years, but it's hard to listen to someone who has never struggled with the food monster.)
I moved from Northern Arizona, where I grew up, to Tucson in 1980.
I live with my two rescued greyhounds, Dani and Merrill. I work for the AZ Supreme Court as a staff person for the Foster Care Review Board.
When I'm not working, I have a number of interests, including catering, knitting, photography and I've recently taken up learning to weave and play the guitar. Sometimes I foster greyhounds to get them ready for a forever home, but I'm taking a break now. It's really hard to walk 3 greys. They are so excited about the walk.
My favorite restaurant is Poco and Mom's on Kolb and 22nd. Awesome Chile Rellenos. I've promised myself I will not go there more than once a week and only if I have been really good all week.
Hi, I'm Carol. I live in Oracle. I took early retirement about 10 years ago. Never really had a weight problem until I bought a flower shop 3 years ago. I used to take 2 hour walks in the hills every morning, but now I "don't have time for walks." My walking partner doesn't like to get up early enough that I can get to work on time. Now I just take a 15 min walk up the hill and back. It sure made a difference. Guess I just don't burn the calories anymore but still eat the same.
Hi, my name is Jeff and I live in Vail. My partner and I moved to Tucson in 1992, bought some land in Vail to build a house. The first house we built was sold in 1996 and the home we live in now is in Vail (south of the interstate). I have struggled with my weight since an auto accident in 2000. Before then I was a runner and could eat anything I wanted and was very trim. My low weight was 139 pounds (I was a marathoner) and I am currently at 190 pounds after topping out at 199. I no longer run due to the back injury from the accident but about a month ago, I started working out at LA Fitness. I'm up to 35 minutes on the elliptical trainer but haven't started working out with the weight machines yet.
My partner Art and I have been together for 20+ years and August 1st is the one year anniversary of our marriage in California. We have 3 dogs: a Dalmatian, a Greyhound, and the newest addition to our family is a Vizsla. They're all great dogs. I also have a 30 gallon aquarium with about 20-24 fish in it (all different kinds). I am interested in computers as well as singing and playing the piano. I'm by no means great at anything, but I always give it my best effort. I currently work as an accounting technician (i.e. bookkeeper) for a CPA firm in Tucson. I ride my motorcycle to work most days except when there's a threat of rain or it's at a temperature extreme (too hot or too cold).
I love to eat especially in the evenings but I'm working at losing weight by watching my portion sizes and doing the exercise at the gym. I hope to lose about 12 - 15 pounds by Christmas (my present to myself). I am highly motivated right now and hope to keep it up by using Calorie Count. Most helpful is keeping a food log where I can see all the junk I tend to eat in the evening hours. I don't believe in eliminating any foods, just watching portion sizes. In the past when I have tried to eliminate foods or food groups, I just want that particular thing even more. So now I allow myself a little bit of everything in moderation.
I'm looking for buddies to keep me on track so I can make my goal this year.
Looking forward to being part of the group and getting to know my Tucson neighbors.
Peace,
Jeff
Hi, my name is Erin and I live in Tucson. I moved to Tucson 5 years ago after my parents died to be close to the rest of my family. Am single with two kids, 11 & 14. I work in IT so I sit on my but 10 hrs a day. I have been over weight since age 16 and gained more with the stress of divorce and multiple deaths in my family. I had a lap-band placed in November of 07' and became very sick less than a year later. I have spent the last year trying to get the funding together to get it removed since insurance would not cover it. I was finally able to get it removed about a week and a half ago! I am now on a path of exercise and healthy eating by using this website. I used the site to help me prepare for the surgery and had great results so I'm back. I wanted to join this group to hear from other locals on their struggles and progress. It's always nice to know your not alone. I love reading, swimming, going to movies, concerts and spending time with my kids.
My name is Jenn, I'm 27 and I've been in Tucson for 4.5 years. Going to grad school at the UA. Been committed to working out (and calorie counting) since January (yay New Year's Resolutions), and have lost about 40 pounds over the last year. Still about 10-15 pounds from my goal weight.
Tucson's a tough place to diet, since there's so much great food here. My favourite restaurant is Fusion at Craycroft and Broadway -- fresh sushi and a great atmosphere! I go there about once every two weeks, as long as I can afford it.
