4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hello annabomb, looks like it's just you and me at this stage. I live near Cooma at the foot of the Snowys. I moved here at the beginning of the year after leaving a very long term relationship that became ugly.
I caretake my parents property - we grow olives and various stone fruit. I have 2 cats, my little sister left her cat in the care of my parents when she took a job in Canada.
I blew out in the first 2 months of being here from my comfortably petite 58kg to 79. Stretch marks ahoy!!
I want to lose it all by the time my aforementioned sister gets married here at Christmas.
So I'm eating less and moving more.
I am going to work o/s next year to teach math, music and english in whichever country will have me, at the moment it's looking like Turkey or China.
I take flying lessons. Bit embarrassing cause the tiny cockpit has become ALOT smaller.
I've had a few probs with the recipe analyzer - the food database only has USA & Canadian foods on it so it's a bit of a challenge to get a good read. It'll be good to swap recipes with someone using the same supermarkets!!!
Cheers

Hi annabomb & madam_captain,
Lucky member number 3? I am not even currently living in Australia but missing the country, people, ocean, sunshine and being able to talk to people who speak the same language. We are temporarily living in Helsinki and returning to Sydney in 2010 only. I was born in South Africa and also lived in the USA, but Australia has been home since 1991. It is quite an adventure when you live in a country where you cannot understand anything they say or even being able to read the junk mail. It gets a bit lonely up here.
My weight gain has been very modest, but I am terrified of blowing out, so I am trying to lose the 6-8 kgs I have gained in the last year. I was advised that keeping a journal on calories consumed is the most effective way of losing weight and joined caloriecount.com for that reason. Apart from yoga every morning, I do heaps of hiking and cycling. Finland has endless beautifully maintained hiking/cycling/x-country skiing trials. I am my own downfall in the cooking stakes though. I passionately love baking and has to force myself to stop trying out new recipes every week.
Cheers, Anne
Hi everyone.
I'm Ron and I'm a kiwi living in Auckland NZ.
I have very recently joined Calorie count. I've had varied success with getting the weight off but more so in the last year with joining a gym and using a personal trainer that ensures that the stuff we do is varied and challenging.
I came across this site looking for anything to help me improve the running and as counting calories has been successful for me so far, I thought I'd give it a go.
And for obvious reasons I want to be a part of this group.
My weight has not precluded me from being active in the past and find I enjoy most things that take me out of the house from running, working out, mountain biking, taking the dogs out. Tried skiing for the first time last week and trying to make time to get back there in the next two weeks. I do a bit of volunteering a the local SPCA. Will give most things a go. The only real hold back is lack of time like most people and I try to make a real effort to get the exercise in.
Right now I find it challenging and enjoyable.
Hey guys, my name is anna and i'm from ACT
i've had a long history with weight loss...or trying to at least, done the whole no carbs, detox etc stuff so hopefully this one will work permantly
i'm not really all that interesting....I go to uni...work in a hotel and after school care...and thats about it.
Hi anna,
I live near Cooma and come into town (Canberra) every fortnight. There's a couple of fabulous cafes around that are very sympathetic to a chick trying to lose weight!!
Which Uni do you go to? Do you use any of the gyms in town?
Nice to have someone relatively local!!!

hey! i was just in Cooma on the weekend, well...passed through it on the way to the snow.
Yeah we have awesome cafes, Cream, Gus' etc....all the ones around that area are great, but maybe sometimes too great...:P do you have a fav?
I go to UC, and i go to the southern cross health club in woden, just got back actually
I noticed you said your looking at going to China or Turkey next year, i may (knock on wood) be going to China early next year too. I'm half Chinese but i haven't managed to learn Chinese yet so hopefully i can do that next year.
Hi CC'ers,
My name's Anam. Im from Melbourne, Australia. I joined CC 3 months ago and have managed to shed 4 kgs. Now im at my target weight and hope to maintain at this weight.
Its great to see other Aussies and our neighbours (NZers) on here. I thought I was the only one confused when the cc food search engine would come up with Papa John's pizzas and Panda Express Asian food. lol.
Nice meeting you all, gluck with your aims!:)
I think the "too great" cafes are everywhere and for the record I will admit that Koko Black is my favourite. You absorb chocolate just by being in there!!!! Love Gus' - great coffee.
I'm hoping to learn a bit of chinese before I go but it won't be entirely necessary as the students I'll have will already know the basics. China is looking more likely than Turkey, mostly because the pay is better!
I've only been to Woden a couple of times to go to the Defence force recruitment centre there. Right next door to a shoe outlet!! I figured that's their way of trying to recruit more women, lol!!!
Well, gotta run - literally.

Yay.. people who understand who uncle toby is! (:
Hi all I'm Skip, and I'm from WA. I'm relatively new on the site but I'm slowly finding my feet and loving all the great tools it has to offer.
I love music and afl, love to meet any west coast fans! Aaaand thats about it (:
Oh Koko Black...that place is the devil in disguise!! so good but so not, they should call it Death By Chocolate!
Losing weight should be good in China, my mum always loses heaps whenever she goes back
Yeah the FSW warehouse is so totally funded by defence... :P
also hey skip! i've never been to WA but i met a whole heap of ppl from perth when i was in europe, sounds like a pretty cool place :)
Not too many kiwis are ther. Will have to email this site to my friends and see if I can rope them in!
Still nice to have a group from the Southern Hemisphere. I have recently joined to loose some weight - 5kgs - but that last little bit is always the hardest to loose and KEEP OFF! So I am hoping this will keep me focused and also motivated for exercising - currently doing an 8 week training plan that i made up myself in prep for a 19km cross-country walk.
Looking at my results so far I eat too many carbs - but does anyone know what kind of percentages is that pie chart graph you should be aiming for - all I know is that I am hovering in the C grade.
Cheers
Hi Bigtum:)
I'm Anna from NZ, and a recent nutrition graduate so I thought I'd drop u a line to answer your question about the recommended percentages of carbs, protein and fat...
Carbohydrates should be 50-55% of total energy, of which less than 10% should be sugar.
Fat should be around 33%, of which no more than 10% should be saturated fat.
Protein should be around 15% of total energy. Most people think they need more protein than they actually do. We need about 0.6-0.7g protein per kg body weight, unless your growing/breastfeeding/pregnant/bodybuilding/h ad recent surgery etc.
Hope that helped you a bit!

Wow! Thanks from me as well. I haven't been aiming for a specific amount of these things, still trying to cut back most things at this point.
Hey! Bigtum, how was the marathon walk? That's no small feat, good on 'ya. So what did you do to train for it? How's are you going now?
I know that we're not supposed to endorse any "crash" diets on here but I'm behind my weight loss schedule thanks to the plateau that I was hoping wouldn't happen to me (denial 'aint my friend). My sisters wedding is on the 28th dec and I have to fit the dress. Does ANYONE have any tips for kicking yourself over the plateau? I've changed my excercise schedule and added an extra 30 mins of cadio per day, I'll know if that's helping by the end of the week but I need some iron-clad, guaranteed or your money back, sure fire help here.
Anyone?......
Hi Madam_captain
The walk was really really hard but I did it! 4 hours 20 mins! Took a couple of days for the legs to recover. There really is no quick fix - that I have found anyway. But the increase in exercise will help. I did lots of hill walking for my training - gets heart pumping, plus good for toning the legs and butt. I now have a women's triathlon in 2 weeks with a 20km bike ride -aaaargh have not done enough training so will just have to slog it out.
Try drinking lots of water to flush you out and get rid of any water retention and maybe increase your fibre a little bit to uhhhh move things through regulary.
Hi everyone,
Im here in lovely old melbourne and its so great to have this forum, Iv only just joined cc but love it already, my history with weight loss is long and up and down, but recently over the last year i have lost 25 kilos with about 23 kg to go, but over the holidays i have lost my modervation and drive, im a mother of three and would love to be able to set a good example to my children about being healthy and active.
I work full time at woolies, live on a small farm, so generally im pretty busy but tired most of the time, my goal is lose this weight and be able to keep up with the family. Im trying to incorperate more exercise into my life and would love to be able to run/jog a few km a couple of nights a week ( well thats the goal anyway).
can wait to chat to you all.

Hi,
I'm also a Canberran and I wish you hadn't mentioned Koko Black! i think it's in the new part of the Canberra Centre?
I am going to kill 2 birds with one stone this year. Lose weight and save money by not eating out as much.
Silo Cafe in Kingston will not be selling me any of their scrumptious brulee tarts till Feb 2009 after I've lost at least 15 kg.
I'm a dog lover and have started my own group called "Puppy Love" if you wish to check it out.
I try to swim regularly, not that it helps with the weight loss but it keeps the joints mobile and the mind happy.
I am a hospitality and functions organiser (voluntary) for a large educational group. 4,000 members, so it can get hectic. The worse thing is I'm expected to take home all the yummy leftovers.
HELP !!
Welcome Cavalierpup! I adore dogs too and have two wonderful Spoodles (Cocker Spaniel, Poodle cross).
Swimming does burn calories so it does help with weight loss! I recently read an article that swimming (at a decent pace, not just floating around) burns as many calories in an hour as a decent paced run. Its the resistance in the water that does it. I try to make swimming once a week part of my routine. Really easy on your joints and good as a substitute if you are injured and can't jog, run etc.
Hi all, Fiona here from the VIC/NSW border towns of Albury/Wodonga.
I thought I would drop by and say hello to my fellow country-men and women.
(It is so very good to know that there are at least a few others around here have to grab a calculator each time they see 'pound', 'quart' or 'mile'. Thanks to Google for helping with that too!)
I am currently on my way down from my biggest weight ever, 114 kilos.
I joined the CalCount forums when I hit 111.2k now sitting at 110.7k after 1 week of considered effort.
I am a web geek, so sit in an office for 8-10 hours per day. Gets a bit too much of sitting on my bum!
Joined a local gym, small room, small amount of gear, but an air-con that certainly helps me out with all the sweating I seem to be doing this past week. New to most of this sort of thing, hoping to see some support and camaraderie, which is exactly what us Aussies are good at.
Enough of me talking, back to the main forum, to get more hints, tips and advice.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
