Hi. I've just joined Caloriecount and have been thoroughly enjoying my experience. I have been weighing myself more than once a day (yeah, I know...) but am happy to join the Saturday weigh-in. Well, ok, today is Sunday but next week I'll try to remember Saturday. I have been overweight most of my life, hoping to be a normal size. I found dieting ridiculous and lost weight several times but could not keep it up. About two years ago I had at long last lost about 60 pounds, looked and felt very good. But then I gained at least 30 pounds back. I was gorging myself. Finally I came to the conclusion that I need to THINK DIFFERENTLY about food and weight loss. It has taken me many years to come to this conclusion. I'm not that happy with it but this is the final wall. Now that I'm learning to THINK DIFFERENT I am at last realizing that there's NO WAY OUT. I MUST CONTROL MYSELF. So that's where I'm at and have lost a few pounds since I started this new way of looking at things (food, in particular).

Interesting about myself? Hmmm. I've over 60. I am married for over 30 years, we have no children. I'm sure there are other details but I'll leave it at that for now. Oh, yes, I don't work, my husband is also retired. I worked on and off for many years, as a secretary, gal-about-town, and a piano/voice teacher.

Hi. Are we supposed to post our weight, loss or gains?

Well, as with most people I've been up and down for years until late 2004/2005 when I got serious after an accident (read my bio for more) and started mirroring WW with my wife. She didn't stick with it but since she paid for the material, I did and it worked. It took about 13 months but I lost a little over 110 pounds and have kept most of that off. Since I gained some and I got bored with poinrs, I started looking for something else in late 2007 (December) and found CC. I lost about 10 pounds which was great but need some motivation and support (that is why I joined this group).

Well, i think my life and job are interesting.  I've been involved with Emergency Medical Services for more than30 years with the last 17 in the fire service and I was recently appointed fire chief for the city I work for! Laughing I also teach EMT and paramedic at a local Community College and love to "train up" the next generation.  I've been at this so long that there are former student's kids that are now in my classes! Make me feel very old!Undecided

I'm married with 2 kids, both juniors, one in HS and one in college.

I like to work out and lift 3 times a week and either run or spin twice a week.

Hi everyone.  africalover4ever, thanks for the invite to join the group.  I was part of the orginal saturday weigh in group that rocks, so africa and straps are familiar to me.  Sorry that I slowly dropped out of that group.  My motivation waned when I wasn't making any progress.  I've lost a couple of pounds since then, but nothing major.

In 43 years my biggest accomplishments are my daughter and son.  My marriage is solid and in its 16th year.  I have a very close extended family in a different city and no relatives in the city where we live.  There are very few friends I can claim, but they are precious to me.  I am blessed.

I seriously need to lose some pounds. I'm 5'2" with CW 139 (as of Friday), near term GW 131, longer term GW 125.  My biggest challenges are excercising consistently and cutting down on alcohol.  My food choices aren't really bad.

I'm looking forward to re-engaging and sharing experiences with the team.Laughing

Hello All, I joined Caloriecount just a week or so ago and I'm really loving it! It's an eye opener to actually see all of the calories that I'm consuming daily.  I've struggled with my weight since my "pre-teen" years. Of course my parents said, "oh that's just baby fat..you'll get rid of that later". Yeah right! I enjoy working out, but when you put in a full day of work, it's a bit tough for me to make it to the gym 4-5 days a week. I recently got married and I do not want to become a statistic with "comfort weight". My goal is to be 135-140 by January. My husband and I are going to try to start a family next summer, so hopefully I'll have a new lifestyle by then and know how to eat properly without over indulging myself.

I guess something interesting about me is that I LOVE sports!! I'm a huge football and basketball fan and the season is just about to start!! So happy!! Also, I'm in a really great book club that meets once a week.  Well, that's all for now.

Hey All - I thought I would re-introduce myself since we have new folks joining up, besides I just joined this group as well so I don't know all the regulars.

I joined CC in mid-July because the minute I say the word "diet" I want to consume everything in sight, so instead of "dieting" I'm learning with the help of CC to develop healthier eating and exercise habits and I'm kicking these 35 extra lbs to the curb!  So far I'm down 7.2 lbs to my CW of 168, my GW is 140.  So far I doing okay with my food, but not so great with my exercise . . .I had a couple of good weeks, but I just can't seem to make it a habit . . .it's a mental battle for me and I'm getting better, but not where I want or need to be does anyone else have this weird gym phobia?!?Undecided

Katierae I too am a sports fanatic! It's all about football for me and I am definately ready for some FOOTBAAAALLL!   My other passion is kitties . . .yes, I am the "crazy cat lady" Laughing I have a couple of my darlings (and yes, they are surrogate children for me) posted in my gallery.  I also run an "unofficial" cat rescue, TNR program and am foster mom to a colony.  I'm still unofficial because I haven't finished my paperwork . . .ugh.  I also love to read, cook, entertain and enjoy wine . . . and I like to chat and encourage and cheer people on (it helps me too) so feel free to add me to your friends list, send messages etc. Need some motivation or someone to rant too . .I'm there for you!

Here's wishing everyone a GREAT WEEK! Can't wait to see how awesome we all do when we post on Saturday  - I'm kicking my little (or big!) weight demon in the patooty! Tongue out

I'm 55, work as an accountant for a small non-profit (a homeless shelter), have two cats, like to read and ride my bike.

I watch too much television, mainly the Food Channel, but also Ghost Hunters and that ilk, sometimes as much as three hours a night.

Also, I drink too much coffee.

My weight Saturday was 171.8#; my interim goal is 156.  I don't like to exercise, but do it anyway, most of the time.  I also don't like to drink enough water, or sleep enough.  It's a struggle.

Tomorrow marks a year on this site for me.  I started at 218.1#, down from a July high of about 235#.  I'm taking the day off work--it is also the 88th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment becoming law.

I would like to join this group.  I hope that it is not a closed group.  I don’t know how these group forums are supposed to work.  Will there be topics listed like the other ones, lets say, Weight Loss?  Or will we list out weigh-in under Introductions.  Or, will there be a separate topic for each week (example:  Weigh In for 08/23/08)?  I know the Groups are in their baby stage, but I was just wondering.

My name is Denna and I live in Kentucky.  Well, let me start by saying that this is going to be a long post.  And I am sorry for that.  Kiss

1.    History with weight loss:

What haven’t I tried?  In my early teens, I broke 100lb.  In my early twenties, I broke 200lb.  In my early thirties, I broke 300lb.  Well, with 40 around the corner, (about 14 months), I definitely did not want to break 400lb.  I had tried all kinds of diets.  Here are just some of the diets that I’ve been on.

I had a friend who was on Weight Watchers.  She joined the group and I piggy-backed with her.  I worked mid-nights and slept through the day.  So, I could not make it to the meetings.

I had joined a program called Physicians Weight Loss.  That was a joke.  It started you out on a diet of about 1800 calories, and kept dropping the calories until you got down to 700 calories.  You would stay at the 700 for a while and then they bring you back up.  When I quit, I was coming back up to 1000 calories which included their shakes and “meals”.  The only real food that I had was a can of tuna on a bed of lettuce – no dressing.  Needless to say, this really messed up my body chemistry.  That was the start of the bipolar manic depression.

Then I tried a baby food diet.  Eat whatever baby food that you wanted, just don’t load it down with salt or sugar.  There isn’t too many ways that you can dress up baby food.

I tried calorie counting (before the internet age).  I had carried around 2 or 3 calorie books, log books and notebooks with a list of foods that I regularly ate.  This was just way too much to try to deal with while in high school and college (with all the other emotional stuff a young adult has to go through).  Cry

2.    History with Calorie Count:

I found this website after having surgery on July 14, 2008 for a massive umbilical hernia.  I had a C-section 3 years ago, and it did not heal correctly.  I had fat tissue and intestinal tissue coming through the muscle wall.  In addition to the hernia, I found out that I was type 2 with high cholesterol.  I also have a problem with my thyroid.  I knew that I needed to loose weight before I was faced with the situation of choosing between a lab-band and gastric by-pass.   I was looking for an easy way keep track of calories, carbs, fats, etc without carrying a library of calorie reference books and a notebook.  I was on the website sponsored by the American Diabetes Association called Dia-Log.  This is a log for blood glucose testing.  I was not happy with their food logs.  I wish that there was a place for us to record our glucose readings before each meal.  I would also like to see the snacks separated out (morning, afternoon and night).  Maybe I’ll submit a layout to the Calorie Count Plus developers to think about. I don’t know. Embarassed

3.    Reason for joining this group:

I really like the idea of being accountable to someone.   I like to be able to have a goal day to announce my progress.  Or to have a place where I have to accept my weekly slip.  I love CC+.  I people here are sooooo supportive.  When you are stuck on finding a different way to fix chicken, the people here are quick to give recipes that are healthy and low on calories, not to mention tasty.

4.    Some interesting details:
As far as being interesting…..  Well, I will just say a few things.  I have been married for seven years.  I have a 6 year little boy and a 3 year old little girl. Right now, they are my exercise program.  They keep me hopping.  Currently, I am not working.  With the cost of child care, there would not be anything left out of the paycheck.  I had been on a few interviews were you can see it in the interviewer’s eyes – She’s Lazy.  No I have a thyroid problem.  I will have this weight off when my 3 year old enters kindergarten and I return back to work.

There is a forum in Weight Loss named "I Named My Weight...." in which I named my weight / fat - Bertha.  I know it sounds weird, but it works for me.  If you give your weight a personality, then you can fight with it as if it were the enemy.  You may see some of my posts where I am arguing with Bertha.  She wants everything deep fried and covered with white gravy.  I am going to change my lifestyle, Bertha.  I am going to live and eat Healthy. Laughing

Here were my stats for 08/23/08:

·    Age: 38  ~  Female  ~  Height:  5' 7"

·    Start Date: ................................... 07/1 6/08

·    Start Weight: ................................. 336.0 lb

·    Current Weight: ............................. 312.8 lb

·    Finish Line: ..................................... 140.0 lb

·    Total Weight Tossed: ....................... 23.6 lb

·    Weight left to throw: ...................... 172.8 lb

·    Date of last weigh-in: ................... 08/14/08

·    Weight tossed since last weigh in: ..... 2.0 lb

Good Luck everyone.  As you can see, I have a LONG way to go.

Two years ago when I graduated highschool I weighed 115lbs. I now weigh around 140lbs. I am only 5'4" so the extra weight shows. I only noticed how heavy I am now when I saw my graduation pics from Community College. I decided in May to take my weight seriously and work to get back to 120lbs. I have lost about 4lbs in the past month. My goal is to reach my goal weight by the New Year. I decided to join this group because I want to talk to people about my weight lost and get ideas from others from their weight lost.

Hi, Denna. I used to live in Kentucky, outside of Lexington. Now we live in Fort Lauderdale. We had to come here due to family circumstances. I miss Kentucky and visited this summer to see old friends and places.

You are doing quite well to lose the pounds you did! It's not an easy road, I'm finding out now after a few rosy days since my new conversion to the idea that there is no way out. I must think different about food, I cannot eat whatever I want whenever I want and then think I might lose weight. I lost 60 pounds a while ago and then gained about 30 back. Now I realize that I cannot stuff myself and dream of losing weight. It just ain't gonna work that way. My proof is my body. So this website has helped me, as you say, communicate and figure things out. And it is so supportive, a pleasure to be on. Keep up the good (not always easy) work. You'll make it!!

Hi pinkchubbymonkey. Glad to see your post, and congratulations on trying to do something constructive to lose weight. From what I see, everyone here is trying to eat well in moderation. It makes sense to me and so I enjoy these boards. I've just started myself and expect to continue. Just what the doctor ordered! Laughing

 Yup.  that's why I'm here.

Can I join this group?  I found the CC+ web site on August 18 while looking for some kind of calorie journal.  I am blown away by all of the free tools and support!  A friend of mine joined weight watchers on line for a fee, and I don't think she has nearly the support I do.

1. History with weight loss:

Well, I was little, then big, then little, and now I'm big again.

2. History with Calorie Count:

Started August 19, 2008.  I'm digging the logs, journals, forums, and groups.

3. Reason for joining this group:

I did weight watchers years ago.  The best thing about it was the weekly accountability.  I already picked Wednesday as my weigh-in day, so fate must have brought me here.Laughing

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

My husband and I have our 24th wedding anniversary approaching.  I have a 16 year old daughter and a 15 year old son, and 2 dogs.  I work for a smal software company, in customer support.  I'm trying to learn to sew and to play the accordion.  Uhm, not at the same time, though.

Current weight:  249, goal weight:  140 by September 10, 2010.

I have a tendency to do really long posts, so I'll try to keep it short!

I never had a weight problem until I turned 31 last year. I kept eating the same junk but couldn't maintain anymore. I found CC in March and lost 6 pounds in 2 1/2 months. Unfortunately, I have gained it all back over the summer due to lots of vacationing (which meant lots of eating out), and slipping back into poor eating habits.

I have a magic number- 126. For some reason, as soon as I see that number on the scale I know it's time to get serious and buckle down. I only have a small amount of weight to lose- 5-10 pds- but if I could drop BF%, I would probably be ok at my current weight.

Can't wait for the weigh-ins to start! Good luck to us all! :)

I've been at calorie count for a while, but I've been really serious about counting for about three days. Sad, I know. I'm currently around 138, and I'd like to lose about ten pounds. I'm almost fifteen and I've gained a lot of weight in the last year. It's not that visible, but it makes me feel awful. I plan to weigh myself on Saturdays, starting with tomorrow!

I am a 30 year old mother and graduate student. I exercise pretty regularly, 5-6 times a week. I lost 60 pds between 2004-2005 and gained about 10 back. I am trying to lose those 10. I lost the weight on WW and like the weigh in accoutability, but hated the meetings.

I have been at CC for over a year, but very sporadically. I will count faithfully for a week and get frustrated and stop.

Hope this will help me!!!

Hi everyone! I'm a 27 year old student. I started med school last fall and within 5 months I gained 23 lbs!! It is now a year from my first day and I have gained a total of 26 lbs. I was eating junk food instead of meals, studying constantly and the only exercise I got was to walk my dogs. Prior to starting school I was pretty active--I worked out 5 days a week for an hour doing cardio and 2-3 times a week with weights. I joined this group for advice; I've been on summer break for the past month however though I'm eating healthy home cooked food (thanks, mom!) and working out 4-5 times a week doing cardio for 1-1/2 hrs each time I'm not losing any weight! It's so frustrating. I am currently 176 lbs and my goal weight is 140 lbs. I am excited to join this group and look forward to the weigh-ins.

take care!

Hi there!  I am glad to find this group!  I like the format of the new threads to post weigh ins!  That makes it alot easier to keep track!

A little about me - I have never had to worry much about my weight and was always on the thin side.  At 5'3", I gained 8 pounds while quitting smoking 5 months ago.... mainly from munching most evenings on huge bowls of popcorn to help with the cravings.  I am not having any more cravings and decided it is time to get rid of the weight.

I have lost 3 pounds so far by CCing and biking quite a bit!  I am up to 20 mile rides, but winter is coming, so I'll have to get something else going!!!

SW - 120

CW - 117

GW - 112

5 pounds to go!!  (just in time for Christmas!  lol)

Hi! I'm Madeleine, 20 years old and a college student. I just joined CC hoping for a convenient way to keep track of how I eat and improve patterns. I'm about 5'4 and currently weigh about 140 lbs. My goal weight is closer to 125 or 130. I don't have much history with calorie counting or dieting but have tried some supplements like hydroxycut, which I am currently taking loosely. I'm fairly active but never seem to have enough time between classes, work, and friends. Additionally, my biggest challenge with my attempt to lose some weight is my tendency to fixate, obsess, and deprive myself only to binge later. I'd like to get back into running long distances after a major illness last year. Mainly, I want to feel great, lose some weight, and do it without yo-yo dieting. Hopefully this group will remind me to weigh in on Saturdays as well as provide some community. I'm originally from Michigan, love animals, soccer, and mac and cheese. Good to be here!Smile

Hey there!  Gad to meet you.  I am from Michigan too... southestern lower MI.  Macomb Twp. Anyway, how's the hydroxycut?  I never tried it.

Hey there everyone, My name is Olivia and I am an 18 yr old college student from the Atlanta area...

1. History with weight loss: I've been big all of my life, my family is big so I grew up big and I've tried pretty much every diet under the sun...the main reason I think that my diets don't work is because I've never seen myself thin and healthy so I have nothing to go from.

But this time, I'm super serious because I do NOT want to go into my 20s overweight...this is my goal.

2. History with Calorie Count: So I was really just interested to see how many calories were in a packet of ketchup and this site popped up on Google...I explored it and the rest is history, it's pretty interesting to see how many calories I eat per day, especially with random foods like cantaloupe or black bean burgers.

3. Reason for joining this group: I'm new to this group but I really liked the idea of a Saturday weigh-in, it really gives me something to look forward to, plus it gives me someone to tell and be excited with about my weight loss and I also ADORE hearing other people's success stories! All of my friends are pretty skinny so it's kind of awkward being all excited from losing 2 lbs when they just don't understand! lol

4. Interesting about Myself?: Hmmm, let's see....well, I guess my main interest right now is fencing. Of all the things I've ever done in my life, from band to drama to softball it is by faaaarrr the single GREATEST thing I've ever done or tried. I am so in love with it, it's crazy! I've only been fencing for about 2 months but I am almost always thinking about it. I recommend it to absolutely anyone. Fencing is actually another reason I want to lose weight...I want to be explosive and agile plus I'll be a much smaller target for a hit! ^.^
