Hi! I'm brand new to the list and would like to introduce myself. I have felt fat all my life because a cousin of mine who was a runt always called me fatty. He really gave me a complex about it. When I look back at childhood pictures, I was healthy (plump) but not overweight or fat. I gained 10 pounds my first year of college and then about 20 more after getting married. After my third child I not only was fat, I was sick, and I was depressed and in paint for about 8 years. More weight. I've gotten past all that now and I'm tired of being fat. I'm ready to get it off. I did Weight Watchers after my second child, but the chapter disbanded. After that it was really hard to keep it off. Then the 3rd child and all the above started. I lost about 6 pounds this summer when I was away at school for 5 weeks, but since returning home have not lost any more. My husband is not very supportive of dieting and we both have really crazy schedules to boot. Also, I'm diabetic and have to eat regularly even when I'm not hungry to keep my blood sugar as level as possible.
I found this group yesterday and it looked like what I need. I need the accountability to make me stick with it and the posting of the chart just may do the trick.
About myself:
I am almost 56 and have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. I teach piano and art while also going to school for a master's degree with an emphasis in art history. I'm active in church and play piano for the adult choir and the services. I love to paint and draw. I don't like to exercise! I never have, but I used to anyway. For many years I walked 2 miles a day. My back started giving me problems and I had to quit. I still have 2 bulging disks in my lower back that hinder me walking or standing too long, therefore exercise is limited. I do get in some walking at school from building to building.
I guess that is about it. Thank you for reading my post and for letting me join the list. I look forward to many motivational posts.
My stats:

Start weight: 185

Hi there, I'd like to join this group?
Saturday weigh-ins make so much more sense than Mondays! I'll just post my stats like you've asked for!
1. History with weight loss: none?! I just keep gaining! In highschool I was in the, 180 zone and thought I was hugggge, now I'm 224 and nooot happy!
2. History with CC? Couple months of browsing but totally non-commital. today is my start day for total commitment!
3. Reason for joining this group? I have a thing called a "happy-life list" so that my goals aren't solely about weight loss, because it's important to work on every part of yourself, not just weight. So one of the things is, every week I try to pamper myself on Saturdays some how, you know, have some me time.... so I thought a weigh-in on Pamper day might not be bad at all!
4. Interesting details about myself? I'm always busy! I work in nursing, and teach voice lessons, am a singer and work for World Vision. I'm married just over a year to my hilarious husband, Keith... have Clara & Cotton, our little kitten & dog... Interests, music, creativity, style, health, just getting really interested in proper fitness, love to travel... mostly weekend trips! Have a big weakness for Starbucks! That's about it for me!
My Start weight: 236.5lbs
Current weight: 224.5lbs
Goal weight for Dec. 16th, 2008: 210lbs
Hope I can make some friends in this group and keep myself accountable!!
Nice to meet you all,
Valerie!
Hi everyone! My name is Carole and I decided to join CC because I needed to get more control over my eating habits. I figured with looking at how many calories I was eating it would help me keep the eating in line.
My history with weight loss isn't that great. I have just come to the conclusion that ya I was a chunky kid, but I was athletic and built a lot bigger than most of the kids that teased me in school. Needless to say I progressively gained weight till the end of college and then I lost about 60 pounds over the course of two years. Some of definitely was from the increased exercise I did and the other was from pretty unhealthy eating habits I had taken on. On went from binge eating to hardly eating anything..it was only till a kineseology prof noticed how much weight I was losing so quickly did someone actually point out how bad this new way of losing was for me. I was just so excited to be losing I lost sight of what I was doing to myself.
So now I've joined this group and calorie count to hold myself accountable and do it in a healthy way. I currently at 240 and would someday like to get down to 160 but for right now baby step is to 200 lbs.
I'm going for my nursing degree and would someday like to be a flight nurse. I am a die hard aggie from south texas and have 2 dogs!
Welcome Carole
When I started, I was 336lb. That was on July 16, 2008. My mini goal was to be under 300lb by my birthday, October 20. I thought that would be a fantastic birthday present to myself. As of last Saturday, I weighed 306.4. It looks like I am going to meet my mini goal about a month early.
Use the tools on this site. Replace your soda / cola intake with water, get plenty of water. And stay active. Also pay attention to the calorie coach. Eat 4-6 smaller meals. If you ever need advice, do not hesitate ask here or on one of the other forums. The people here are so helpful.
See ya next Saturday - Denna
Hi!!
Well I've tried many things to lose weight. Diet pills, frozen dinners, weight watchers, etc. I've tried weight watchers 3 times now with no results. The most I ever lost was 6 pounds. I was hoping to at least hit 10 pounds, but it never happened and I gave up. My most recent failure of weight watchers has brought me here. I am really trying this time.
I joined CC about a week ago. I think I did something wrong for the first couple of days, so I lowered my calories. Now I am trying to eat under 1300 calories a day and I am walking or running. I don't really have a goal, I just want those numbers to go down and my clothes to fit better! I would like to get down to about 120, and I'd be happy with 130. We'll see how this goes.
I am 27 years old. My start weight is 169. Nothing lost so far!!!
Hi amy4422, you mentioned that you thought you were doing something wrong at first, so you lowered your calories. You never mentioned your height, but I'm 5'6", 121 pounds, and I eat 1276 per day and that's based on doing no exercise. Based on your weight, I would say that you're not eating enough...try this site, set it on sedentary activity and then add on any activity you do.
Please, feel free to ask if you have any questions! You can do it! :)
Amy - I agree with Queenmedia. You may not be eating enough, especially on the days that you are walking and running. A woman with no activity is supposed to get 1,200 at the lowest. See what the site that queenmedia recommended sets for you as a daily calorie intake. My doctor has set me at 1,800. I notice that I don't loose as easily if I'm under 1,500.
Thanks for the tips Denna! You hit the nail on the head with drinking more water. I really love my diet cokes, so now I've limited myself to one a day and drink a lot of water! Congratulations on your mini goal as well! I think it really builds confindence we achieve those first goals.
I'm 5'1". I really didn't know what to put for my activity level. Some days at work I am all over the place and some days I sit around doing nothing. At first I put moderate activity, then I changed it to no activity. I figured that would be more accurate and then any exercise I did later on would only increase my weight loss. I will check that website and maybe even check with my doctor. That is something I've been wanting to do. Thanks for the advice. Will keep you posted. Can't wait for the weigh in on Saturday. If I didn't gain, I will be happy!!

I think that you did the right thing changing your activity level. I put my activity level at Sedentary. I have a 3 year old girl and a 6 year old boy. Anybody that has been around children for any length of time will know that you don't sit still. In addition to chasing them, I am also keeping up with the house and the invoicing for my husband's business. I was thinking the same as you, any extra would be additional exercise.
Hey, I'm new here. Just joined the site today. And I'm a little confused. Is the forum/post thing for tips, talking, what?

This group reports on Saturdays and posts their weigh ins. We also give advise and encourage one another.
Glad to have you - Denna
Ok, I went to the website and put my information in and chose sedentary lifestyle. Let me see if I understand this correctly. It says to eat 1442 calories and I burn 1730 calories to lose .58lb a week. Now that is by doing nothing but eating and regular daily activities. Any other exercise I do will only increase my weight loss, right?

Amy - That is the way I understand it. The "1730" is what you will burn on a daily basis for eating, sleeping, body organ fuction and a normal hum-drum daily life. Anything extra is an additional burn. Things like:
- walking the campus to classes
- going to the gym
- walking around the block
- going for a run
- cycling
.... log in the activities log if you want to. Most people on this site will use the activity logs. Personally I do not at this time. I think that it is unrealistic to try to figure out how many hours it took me to care for my kids. Or how many minutes it took me to do the dishes. Maybe I will when I get somewhere between 200 - 250 and I can do additional excerise. Right now I am winded after doing laundry, cleaning house and chasing the kids. After loosing 30 pounds, I can breathe alot easier. I am now able to do 4-5 loads of laundry in one day. That is washing, folding and putting it away. Before the journey to a healthier lifestyle, I could only do maybe 2 complete loads and leave the 3 load in the dryer. I would make sure that the last load was the towels and wash clothes so I would not have to worry about wrinkling.
I hope this helps - Denna
Hello all, thought I'd introduce myself and say hi! Decided to join as any morale support is great and you all seem like a friendly & helpful bunch. I don't really have a big, so to speak, history with weight loss. I used to dance and left when I joint uni. Over the 3 years I put on over 2 1/2 stone which has stuck with me ever since.
At the beginning of this year I faced some challenging family problems, not to mention loosing my job. Being an "emotional" eater I began to notice I was getting even bigger which I did NOT like. So I decided to join Calorie count. I love it just because it makes me more aware of what I am actually eating, especially the new tool bar Eat Meter ![]()
Lots of people have suggested this diet or that diet but I've decided just to change my general lifestyle. Less bad foods and more exercise. Fingers crossed!![]()
Laundry is exhausting!! All chores are. I do use the activity log, but mainly because I got this cool watch with a heart rate monitor in it. It's cool too see how many calories I really have burned when I'm out walking. It's also helpful for if I ever go over on my calories, I will know how many I need to burn. But, I do find it hard sometimes to eat all those calories. Don't get me wrong, I could go grab a bag of salt and vinegar chips (mouth watering already) and meet my calories, but I think that isn't the goal here. Anyway, my scale says I lost two pounds and that was in about 11 days. I don't really trust it. I can gain and lose two pounds at any time, just depends when I get on the scale. Well if the scale says 165 next Saturday I will be super super happy. Then I will feel like it's real!!
HI, my name is Tracy, or T, and I am new to this group.
My weight loss history started as an adult. Skinny kid, overweight adult ![]()
I have been with CC+ for less than a week. Although my desire to lose weight this time in my life started about 3 weeks ago. I went to a health care manager who put me on a high protein diet. I then saw my doctor (which changes with the wind-state insurance) who wanted me on a 1300 calorie diet. Found this site thru a friend of a friend at church. God Bless her!
I joined this group to be accountable for my weight. Although I have yet to buy a scale so I have to wait until next month to do regular weigh ins. ![]()
I am single although I have a BF who supports my weight loss. He too has a weight problem but is older (much older) and has 4 hernias to worry about. Surgery is not a good idea until he loses some weight.
I have 2 kids, one DD and DS. I am trying to get custody (court tomorrow) of my son. It's a long story. Sometime I will post it. I live in beautiful California on the central coast. The new Napa county.
To date I have lost 6 lbs! ![]()

Welcome Tracy - Glad to have ya
You metioned that you lost 6 pounds. I don't see a weight for me to add you on the progress chart.
GOOD LUCK in court tomorrow.
Hello Everyone!
Today is the first evening of the new me. I was always the heavier girl in class. I knew that the other kids thought less of me because of my size. As I got older, I got bigger. Throughout school I was at least able to have to constantly do an activity because of P.E. Directly after school I got married. I quickly learned about the "Freshman 15" and the weight everyone talks about when they get married. I have only seriously tried to diet once. It was terrible and depriving of everything. This is my first experience with CC. I have been crusing the site all night and the more I look the more I like it. I joined this group because while I have support at home, I need support from people going through the same thing as I am. We have been trying to get pregnant for almost 2 years. I know that if I am healthier and I drop quite a few pounds, that would make everything easier. I am sick and tired of having to get the cute big girl clothes from my relative who is willing to buy them and then hand them down to me. It is a long journey but I am have already taken the first step in the right direction.
