And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hello...My name is Amy. I'm 5'1.5" and I have always been on the heavy side growing up. My lowest weight was back when I was 22 and I was 124lbs. Since that time I have gradually gone up a little at a time so I haven't really noticed it. I ran across this site a month ago when I was looking for the calorie count for a food. I was quite suprised to see how many calories I burned naturally. My biggest problem has been that I don't eat much, so my body has gotten to the point where it basically stores everything I eat as fat because it thinks I'm starving. Since I have been logging my foods it has become easier for me to eat and to realize that I'm hungry. I currently weigh about 153 and it is driving me crazy. I don't want my thighs to rub together anymore. I am married to the greatest man and he is very supportive of me. But there are times when I take offence to what he is telling me. I know he says things to help me, they just come across bad.
I have never really been an active person, and I get lazy and depressed and don't want to be active. I'm trying to change how I look at this weight loss. I was actually really suprised to find out that my ideal weight could get as low as 105. With me being the weight I am it just seemed really low.
I work as a server in california. I just moved out here in Feb. from Ohio. I am enjoying the weather out here but it is hard to break some habits. It is nice to see others that are around my size having the same problems...
Welcome, Amy! Your job is a good one to have in terms of weight loss so long as you don't "graze" while you're there! All the running around at a quick pace and standing.
Hey I'm Lyse, 23, standing at 5'1" and small frame.
I have struggled with my weight since I was 12. Never TOO much overweight, stayed at my ideal most of the time, but REALLY had to work at it. I've had 3 children since I was 19, and weight 40lbs over my pre-baby weight. Disheartening to say the least. Recently decided to give it a full-hearted GO and try to lose this weight once and for all.
I am a stay at home mom, my oldest (4 year old boy) recently in an all-day Pre-K program, and have a little girl who is 2, and another little boy of 19 months still at home. We go to the gym Mon-Fri thanks to the nursery there to watch the kids while I workout. I have been married for 5 1/2 years, and also have a cat - Nibbles.
I am quite busy, but still can't manage to kick the weight. I have been told most of my problem is that I skip a meal or two throughout the day which decreases my metabolism, so I have been making a giant effort not to do that. So far, so good.
Starting weight - 168 Goal Weight - 126 1 Pound at a time. :)
Hi Lyse and welcome!
You're right about the same weight as me (although a few inches taller) so it's nice to have some company on the longer weight loss road. :)
My gym also has a childcare facility, but the hours are really off, they're closed for about 3-1/2 hours in the middle of the day and then most of the morning and afternoons on Friday, which stinks.
Anyhow, welcome aboard. I love this group because it's so active, which is unlike the other boards that I participate on which really don't get past the introductions - and rarely have any response back on them. :(
There are a bunch of great people in this group also. :)
Hi, I'm Beth. I'm 41, with 2 grown children, and 3 step-children. I work outside the home, have a second job, and then teach Jazzercise 4 nights a week on top of that.
I have struggled with my weight since I was about 15. I am a yo-yo dieter, although seem to be getting that a little more in check these days. I have tried every diet, including the Phen/Fen trend, which was wonderful, too bad there were so many problems with it.
I started out losing weight last October (1st), at which time I weighed 209 pounds. I am 172.2 as of this morning. I would like to get down to 135, at least, and am feeling as though it MAY be possible. Although I am only 5' 1 1/4", I am not small boned, and the least I have EVER weighed was at 17, when my boyfriend was killed in a car accident and I got down to about 130.
I sort of took the summer off, I didn't gain, but I didn't lose either. So it's time to get back on track, which I started on Monday, I am going low carb for 2 weeks, and then I'll start adding back in the good ones slowly. That always seems to work, to jump start my metabolism, and it is!! I am feeling more calm about it this time, I know I can do it, I just need a little motivation!!
Thank you for starting this group, I'm excited to be here, and have some positive motivation. I look forward to getting to know you all much better.
welcome to all our new shorties! We are growing so fast that it's hard to keep up! Jump right in and post. I look forward to getting to know you better!
Hello! I'm Sophia and I'm 24, from Manchester. I'm 5'3" and currently weigh in at 147lbs. My goal is 120 by Christmas. I've never been at 120 but it has always been my goal.
History with weight loss: Well my first memory of being concerned about my weight was when I was 7 years old, when I wouldn't go in a swimming pool without a t-shirt on because I was 'too fat'. I wasn't overweight then and I think I have only ever actually been overweight (according to my BMI) since I was about 20. That said, I need to be at the bottom end of the BMI scale to look right because I am short. So anyway, in my adult life, I think the lowest my weight has ever gotten to was 130, and that was down to a breakup. Other than that, I have followed a lot of unsuccessful and some really stupid dieting techniques. I have starved myself and binged/purged (I never had an ED though) and these all made me unhappy and were just generally bad ideas. If they ever did work, they worked for a week or two and then I'd regain the weight and then some.
History with Calorie Count: I joined calorie count about 2 years ago, when just searching for the calorie content of some food and stumbled across this site. Recently (as in the past couple of weeks), I've been really exploring the site and have realised how much more helpful it can be than than just as a tool for counting calories! Namely, the forums and available support - both have been lacking from my previous attempts at weight loss.
Reason for joining this group: I am short, my boyfriend calls me 'titch' and I would like to join in with other 'titchy' ladies who also want to loose weight :-)
Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: About me, I am currently 3 weeks away from submitting my thesis for my Masters and completing it! Yay! I also work full-time in quality assurance for mental health and waitress part-time. I ultimately would like to complete my doctoral training in Clinical Psychology. Mental health and human rights are my passion (I could harp on about it for hours, so wise not to get me started
). I also love Yoga and have been practicing for about 7 years, I would like to complete my teacher training in a few years and then incorporate this into my (eventual) clinical work. I live with my 2 best friends, Sarah and Sarah and I also have a sister, Sarah. Yes, it gets confusing! I have no pets at the moment, much to my dismay, but when I eventually own my own home I want a dog and a cat and hens. I'd also quite like a pig and some rabbits, maybe even a goat. Basically, my own mini farm, no animal would be unwelcome!
Ok, I've babbled on for long enough. That's me....
Hello,
My name is Erin and Im currently a student and work full time at a design showroom and just finished my application to an art institute. I work with mixed media collage/sculpture/etc... and am studying for interior design...Ive got a lil cat named Dylan... (after bob for those who enjoy music like i do..)..there is a little about me..kinda private...
anyway, I work a lot.. about 6 days a week.. which means im always on the go..hence the lazy dieting. If Im not at work or school Im out with friends, which usually involves going out to dinner and shows (art or music)...where there is wine cheese gormet rich food..desert.my weakness!
1. History with weight loss: ive always been a little sensitive to the issue.never severely over but always a little uncomfortable. I believe i was happiest at 21 and around 125-130. I was more active and had time to take into account what kind of food i was around rather than settle for group lunches, fast foods and quick fixes. I worked for a gyno and of course Doctors catered lunches were healthy.. now I work in a HIGH STRESS on the go environment..appointments and less than 30 min lunches...and i am aware that i've settled for comfort foods chocolates and the easy way out.So here i go. Ive got my pilates 20 min work out...yoga mat...Walked around the block briskly for 15 minutes the other day walk everywhere around work..no cutting corners... and i will continue to add more!
2. History with Calorie Count: never counted them..learning to love this site.. with a bit of OH MY GOD REALLY for some items...
3. Reason for joining this group: Somehow i have managed to stumble onto this wonderful website...and after trying on pants because i can no longer fit into my favorites..i've decided ITS TIME FOR CHANGE! Im at my heaviest...145-150 and i am very upset that i've let myself even get to this point.
so, if you have some inspirational words, tips, or anything to light a fired under me..just feel free! i need help! i feel a little defeated my the number on the scale right now..
maybe all initial weigh-ins feel that way though..
Welcome Sophia and Erin! Seems like we've got a lot of student shorties, proof that we're smart I guess :)
Sophia, I'm working on a Master's right now too, a big congratulations to you on being only 3 weeks away from finishing your thesis, that's wonderful and I can't wait until I can say that , hopefully I'll have completed mine at the end of this year. I love animals too and have been trying to figure out how I can talk my husband into agreeing that we need a puppy right now while I'm taking time off from my full time job to finish school... I've been doing yoga for a long time now too and would love to get certified but prefer doing it at home first thing in the morning instead of going to classes which I tend to skip :(
Calorie Count is really helpful I've found, mostly with facing reality about portion size and what's healthy vs what's not. Erin I know what you mean about high stress work and going out a lot - fortunately I'm taking a break from that but it is a real challenge to eat and exercise when your job and social life seem to work against you. Cheat days as a reward may help fight off the urge to eat really bad food when you're out and about, and even if you can't do a long period of exercise during the day maybe try to do a bit of extra walking, fidgeting, whatever when you can. I surprised myself a few months ago by dropping a few pounds when I hadn't been trying, then I realized that I'd been taking a class twice a week that had me walking 6 extra blocks on those two nights, I don't know what else it might have been because it certainly wasn't discipline!

1. History with weight loss: I totally suck at weight loss. The only time I was successful, a friend an I were doing 3 hours or so of aerobics 6 days a week. We were poor college kids and it was our entertainment. I guess it was better than wasting money on beer.
2. History with Calorie Count: I found the
site Dec 2007. I love it. It is easy to organize all things related to
loosing weight and it is easy to find calorie information even if you
have to type in a recipe which is a feature that I think is great.
3. Reason for joining this group: I am 4'8" tall and it is heck to loose weight. I wanted to meet other people who have similar problems.
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
Hmm...I have a disabled kid yet our family is pretty active. My kid and
I do martial arts every Tue/Thurs and ride bikes every Monday and
Friday. He is involved with several other activities as well like
horseback riding, swimming, and baseball. Myself, I have been skydiving
and loved it...now that I have kid I don't do it anymore. I also enjoy
whitewater kayaking, cooking, gardening, and world of warcraft online
game. I don't think we are very interesting...just a typical family
doing typical things.
Hello Erin!
I am pretty new to this group too ... and also earning a degree in interior design (I'm 19 so I'm a sophmore in college now). Your work sounds exciting! I have not had a job in the industry yet but as a design student I know where you are coming from! Lack of sleep, stress, and eating the wrong foods late at night have caused me to gain 20 lbs my first year of college (and I even made time to work out and I still gained the weight!) And my social life hasn't helped me loose any.
Well anyway I just wanted to say "Hi" and let you know that you're not alone.

Wow I feel TALL! Hi Everyone, I'm Stacey and I'm 5'3". I'm 29 and being reminded daily that payback is closing in quickly (family plays jokes on birthdays) on that big 3-0 day that's rapidly approaching in Feb. I was always that 'skinny' girl that could eat anything, literally, and not gain an ounce. I remember (not so fondly) being on triple rations in bootcamp because I was literally 10lbs under my weight minimum. I kept losing when they doubled what I ate, so it was double food in the chow hall and then a hot box back at our barracks afterwards....horrid but worked and got me to the minimum required weight. I gained 12 pounds of muscle in school doing weights and really pushing myself. So I was used to being a pretty cut 115...and constantly in trouble with our medical for being unhealthy body fat%. I gained 70lbs from 112 to 182 with my 1st daughter, it was all water and I was able to drop quickly once I got off the bedrest.
After my 2nd daughter and son were born in the following few years I didn't really have trouble losing the weight either. I got out of the military after my son and I had about 10lbs that I just couldn't get off that I was stuck with following our last baby (#4). I had about 15lbs to go when my knee hyper-extended at work April 07.
Delays (work-comp, enough said) plus surgery and inactivity... with infection and steroid therapy put on a Lot of weight. 65lbs worth. I've been battling to get it all off. I'm down 30lbs and I keep fluctuating but never get below 155. I might get 153/154 but then it's right back up.
I actually just found CC and this group is perfect. Finally people who understand what being x weight when your short feels like. I have friends that are 5'7" or taller so not only do they actually get pants that fit right in the legs but they look at my weight saying "You're so not overweight!" when in actuality I am.
So other then the 4 kids, I'm working from home now focusing more on my artwork and really enjoying that aspect. Been married almost 10 years and we have 3 pets... 2 cats and 1 dog. They're spoiled but they're worth it. I play a lot of instruments and have kept up with piano, guitar, bass and violin. Just got cleared to run again with help from my knee brace (aka the titanium nightmare) and I'm starting back with a couch to 5k program but am extending it to really condition my leg better with the extra weight. Scared of injuring the knee over again but I was a distance runner (ever since 6th grade) and depression over losing a long time constant in my life because I couldn't run has really made it hard for me. Supposedly the brace won't let me overextend and my ortho showed me it's used by football players in games taking hits.... so I should be fine!
Really looking forward to meeting everyone!
Welcome Stacey ~
It's great to have you aboard!
I can relate to knee issues as it has caused much of my weight to stay on (can't do too much when it's hurting me), but have since lost a bit of fat - although my weight doesn't say it, my body shape is changing, so I can see it. Because of that, I have been able to workout more and for longer periods of time, but as soon as I start to feel that slight twitch of pain, I immediately stop. Otherwise, I'm stuck in pain for the next week and won't be able to accomplish anything fitness-wise.
And btw, I think you are one of the tallest here! :)
Jennifer
Hello everyone!
I am soooo glad that I found some other shorties to lose weight with. I am 5ft 1in. tall and weigh 135. I have a 3 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. Before trying to get pregnant, I weighed about 120. Two miscarriages and two kids later, I hardly recognize my body. Fifteen pounds doesn't sound like a big deal to most people, but to a shorty it is huge! My knees, ankles, and back hurt by the end of the day. I suspect it is due to the extra weight coupled with carrying around two kids all day. I am a stay at home mom, so everything I do (including exercise) has to be with the kids. I miraculously got them down for their naps at the same time today, so I have so time just to be me!
hi everyone! i'm so glad this group is out there -- i am only 5'1" tall and i weight 145 ... up until college i never weighed over 115... through college i was about 125 at my heaviest... my weight has ballooned the last 3 years, sadly. so i'm excited to compare stats with people of my own stature... oh and all my closest friends are over 5'8", weird, right? anyway i joined calorie count as a way to watch what i am eating.. and as motivation to lose some weight. i am very uncomfortable at my current size. i wear a size 6/8 and that just freaks me out since i was always 2/4. anywayyyyy interesting facts about me: i have a puppy that i am obsessed with. i work as an engineer. i live with my bf in new england. i have 1 sister and 1 brother. and i hate talking about my weight. i am embarressed and i never complain to people that i am fat because i do not like to draw attention to it. i try to ignore it. oh and i go to the gym between 3-5 times a week. i enjoy running and spinning. and at home mat pilates.
yikes - sorry for the mile-long post! have a happy thursday
Hi everyone! I feel so tall here im 5'3" it is amazing im used to being one of the shortest now i am one of the tallest. im 17 and only recently graduated from high school.
1. History with weight loss:i was always a small kid but going through secondary school i just kept on puting on weight when i reached 154 pounds i decided that i need to lose weight i yoyoed a bit and then found this site a three days ago and have lost two lbs already
2. History with Calorie Count: as i said above i only joined a three days ago so no history as of yet
3. Reason for joining this group: i need motivation to contiune i have always in previous times lost motivation and quit after a couple of weeks i hope that this group will help me acheive my goal
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: i am 17 about to do my HSC (a big exam in australia) and hoping to get in to uni next year. i live with my parents in Australia and i have a brother and a dog. i also am a gymnast and coach gymnastics.
Hello! I'm the current new girl to the group! My name is Vikki.
Since 2005 I've lost 60+ pounds, I'm looking to lose another 40+. I seem to have hit a year long plateau which started about when my life got flipped, turned upside down... (enter Fresh Prince theme)
I'm 5'2" currently 179 lbs (moving makes you put on weight, yeah 10 lbs!). At my largest I was 236 lbs, my lowest was on my wedding day last year of 170. I still haven't broken through to the 160's yet.
So, here we go:
1. History with weight loss: When I was 14 and weighed 130 lbs my mother used to constantly tell me I was fat, I was out of shape (but played soccer!) I needed to diet... fat fat fat fat fat fat fat... you get the idea. I was freaking 130 lbs! I'd love to be 130 lbs again! I wasn't fat at all! UGH! I believed her :( I coudn't lose weight.. well how, where would it come from? so I just gave up and ate. I got up to 170 and stayed there for years until I went on antidepressants and blew up to 236 lbs. Once I stopped taking them, the weight just FELL off at first. I figured I could keep it up so I changed my eating habits. I hardly ever eat fast food anymore (cept when we moved... heh), only coke zero, I ate 200 calories 7 times a day and I cut my carb intake down to no more than 100 grams a day. Later on I increased my protein level to as many grams as pounds I weighed at the time. I was dropping 2.5 to 5 lbs every week for months! you could ski down my weight log graph! I didn't start exercising until I got down to 190 which is when I felt fit enough to do any exercise.
2. History with Calorie Count: I've been a member now for a year and a half I think, I love it, it's like beating your own high score! once I got the hang of counting my calories it was dead easy! You can see my before and after pictures on my profile :D
3. Reason for joining this group: I was looking for a place where I could talk to other people with my same height/weight/gender and possibly activity level and looks like I found one! My husband dosen't see the difference between a 5'2" nearly sedentary female and a 6" weightlifer who cycles 9 miles a day... he thinks I should be having 2600 calories like he does instead of my 1350. He can burn off 3 beers and a chocolate bar or two a hell of a lot better than I can. He somehow thinks I'm starving myself. I'M TINY DAMNIT!
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm 32, I'm from Texas but I currently live in Northern England with my husband. This has been part of my downfall because chocolate here tastes so much better than any chocolate you can get in the US. We have no children, nor do we want any. I had to rehome 5 cats when I moved, I couldn't bring them with me because my husband's allergic. I still see them on webcam and pictures though, they are with family :) I'm currently a housewife as the job market here is crap. ummmm I play Neopets and I have a Live Journal account (kisschick1976)
So that's about it. I keep trying to stay on the lower carb diet thing but when you live a block away from the best fish n chips shop and a sainsburys full of chocolate... it's a bit hard at times. lol My name is Vikki and I've been chocolate free since sunday. I told my husband that even if I beg and whine for chocolate, he's not to buy me any. So far it's worked.
I too am a new girl to group!! My name is Holiday.
I have battled my weight for about 5 yrs. I went on active duty in 2003 and gained alot of weight due to stress and bad coping habits. I had my daughter in 2000 and went from 126-146. Once I left active duty I came home at 150. Last year I tried WW and lost about 10lbs (146-136) I gained 16lbs last year and was devastated.
I am 4 11(1/2) almost 5ft...but I am built like a gymnast so my body is very muscular. I decided July 7, 2008 that I was sick of myself!! I LOVE pics and had stopped taking pics because I did not like the way I looked anymore. I felt fat and embarrassed. So I started working out, doing cardio like crazy. My newest love is a class called Zumba!! This class has really helped me get comfortable with my body and even begin to like what I see in the mirror.
I have been a member of CC since September 29, and I am really happy with the site. I have raved about this site to all my friends.
I joined this group because I can easily identify with the shorties of the world. We truly have a challenge being short, because when we gain weight it is easy to see on our frame. I want to be surrounded by people that understand what I am going through.
Somethings about me... I love to write poetry, and short stories!! I am at my best when I am helping others. I love pics and I have more than 13 photo albums.I have a beautiful 8yr old little girl, that is almost as tall as me!! :) I will become fitness instructor certified through the YMCA in November!! I decided to start teaching fitness classes that way I will no longer have an excuse why I am not working out. So for 2009 I will start teaching. My 1st fitness love is Zumba!!! Great class to try.
My goal weight is 126. Currently, I weigh147. I will weigh in tomarrow!! I am excited, and I will keep the group posted. I plan to hit to hit my goal on or before my 30th Bday (Next year in September)
I can't wait to get rid of all my clothes that will no longer fit. Actually I will cut a patch from all of them and make a quilt of who I once was. That will be fun.
Hi I'm Nicole. I'm 24 and 5'2"
History with weight loss: When I was younger I ate whatever I wanted and never gained a pound because I was so active with sports and dancing and skating etc. College hit and I gained my freshman 15 and then some. After college I had some oral surgery and couldnt really eat for about 14 days and it put me at 108, but I looked unhealthy. I tried to maintain that weight through diet and exercise and it worked, for a time, but I'm back up to 116 now. I want to get back down to a healthy 108/109 as I have a small frame and when I actually look like a healthy 108 it suits me.
2. History with Calorie Count: I used CC as my way to lose/maintain for months...this is when it was working. Life got in the way and I was so busy I found it hard to even make time to log cals or remember what I had eaten. I'm starting back up with it again because it works.
3. Reason for joining this group: I'm a short kid, it helps to have other short kids to commisserate with. The struggle for us is that much more difficult.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm a medical editor and tend to live at work these days. I have a fantastic boyfriend who I just moved in with (yay) and who is the best workout and motivation buddy a girl could ask for. I love snowboarding, dancing, reading a good book that is not medical related, and watching all of those ridiculous ABC shows that I can't help but be addicted to.
I've been sick for the past week and in bed basically everyday. I lost my appetite and so I really didn't eat much. Of course I did lose weight...hopefully when I'm not sick I don't gain it back. It is about two pounds but if i can keep it going, it has definitinly been motivation for me.
Starting weight- 127 lbs 58ish kilos
Current Weight- 124 lbs 56.6 kilos
next week's weight- 123 lbs 56 kilos
