And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hello Shorties...
I'm Emma, I'm 29 and I came across this group a few days ago.....it nice to properly compare and get correct (for our height) feed back!
My current weight is 124 and the max I was about 4 years ago was 154 (argh), I am 5 ft and am currently a size 10, I have been told that my "ideal" weight is 100, so I am aiming for that :)
1. History with weight loss:
Before having children I weighed a pretty consistent 105, after my third child I hit the scales at 154 and paniced - I was now squeezing into my size 14 clothes. Like a switch in my head being turned on, I dropped from 154 to 114 ( and 4 dress sizes) in 3 months. I couldn't bring myself to eat and I hated everything about who I was. I was ashamed and felt like I didn't deserve to eat. Punishment?? Maybe......
So I was happy with my new size 8 body in size 10 clothes. It felt good and for once I had confidence.
Now over 4 years I've gained 10lbs, a few of which I gained in the summer when I gave up smoking.......It could have been worse, I could have put on way more...haha!
2. History with Calorie Count:
Well, I only came across this site just over a week ago, so I'm a newbie as well as a shortie, I cannot believe how motivated I feel just knowing that I can keep a track on everything and speak to others. It's great!
3. Reasons for joining this group :
Well, I am little and you guys here are too, so I figure I'd be able to get a realistist view on how things really are for us.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I live in Ipswich in the UK, it's nice, but not very warm or sunny!
Ok, I'm generally a very busy person, I live with my hubby and 3 kids. I spend most of my time during the day walking to and from the school, which is a mile away. I don't have a car, so I have to. It's great exercise though. In between the school runs I am working on recording my first album. I also spend lots of time writing songs. I play guitar. I also love photography and do Live and Promo band photography from local bands and musicians. When I can find the time I like to read, I love watching Eastenders. My favourite comedy on the telly at the moment is 'Gavin and Stacey' and I love beetroot :)
I'm looking forward to the Monday weigh-in's.......last week I only lost 1lb, so hopefully it will pick up for next Monday.
Looking forward to meeting you all
Emma

hello ladies,
I'm runa, a college student, 24 years old.
I've always been in a good shape, but i gain some weight from time to time.
this year is a baaad one for me, i've recently in about a month or two gained about 25 lbs just by binge eating most of the time :(
So frustrated, i'm 5'1'' and i used to wear size 4. when i look at my clothes now i feel so bad becuase nothing fits me any mooore.
i want to go back to my normal weight which was 115 lbs :(
CW is 147
goal weight is 125 for now.
i was 115 to 120 lbs a couple of months ago :(((
wish you all a good luck in ur weight loss journey.
1. Weight Loss History: Let's see, my dad put me on a diet when i was 12 when i weighed a whopping 80 pounds (he said i should weight 75) and from that moment on, i hated dieting. we had weekly weigh ins and i finally got down to 75. I stayed under 100 pounds through high school with anorexia, got help, and was about 110 for college/early years of marriage. i have since then struggled to maintain 110-115 and after having two kids was at my heaviest (2 years ago) at about 140. I'm five feet even by the way and 32 years old.
2. History with Calorie Count: I had some friends start calorie counting for the new year with LoseIt on their iphones, but I don't have one so I looked for something similar online and found this. I have lost 16 pounds over the last year and had 14 more to go Jan 1. I joined Calorie Count Jan 6 and now only have 11 pounds to go to reach 110 again! This website has been great! I have not felt too deprived at my recommended 1266 calories a day and have started working out 5 days a week again! I was doing South Beach last year and that worked well for awhile but I felt too deprived and needed a change.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I love my husband dearly who is calorie counting with me, but he needs 2100 calories a day to lose a pound a week--- almost double what i need. do you know how hard it is to hear him talk about how he has 600 calories left for the day at 8 pm and head to the kitchen for chocolate chip cookies and ice cream?! I know some of you do ;) Anyway, it is nice to read about all the other shorties who realize how much of a difference 10 pounds can be on a 5 foot frame!
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a stay at home mom with a 6 and 3 year old. We also have a little dog, oreo. I'm training with a friend to run a 5k in April and I do mostly mom things! PTA, soccer practice, swim team, and substitute teaching on occasion.
hi,
1. okay i was always a bit heavy in high school. started college in 2005, gradually lost it without intentionally doing so. with full time school schedule and work, lost 30lbs by the end of 2005. it was amazing, i never thought i could ever lose weight just by eating healthy and walking more often, let alone lose 30 lbs. and being the lowest i've ever been since 6th grade but after 2.5 years of maintaining i fell into the binge eating trap and gorged on junk foods and gained 42lbs in 8 months. :(
2. 2nd time using cc. first time was for informational purposes. now i want to lose weight but i don't know if it can be done.
3. i love tinkerbell and i love disney so i love the avatar. lol. j/k. i'm short, 5'1. okay i'm grateful to get pass by a measly inch over 5 feet, but still. i used to be petite, but not i'm stocky and sloppy and i hate it. i'm here to look for support and inspiration.
4. i'm 22. i wish i could live 20 years old over again. i'm in school almost graduating and i would like to go to graduate school in counseling but i'm too late to enroll, so maybe next year. i love fashion but i don't have the body to pursue a career in the industry. i did, i used to until i gained all the weight plus more back. my passion for clothes is undying. i just want to be a stylist or a fashion marketing. i just binged ate on like 6 chocolate covered oreos and 6 squares of mint chocolate pieces. i love and hate chocolate. i feel sick now and i just wish this was all a bad dream so i can wake up 40-45 lbs lighter.
thank you for listening to me.
You can do this justice4me. You can't go to sleep and wake up lighter, but you can acheive your goals if you put your mind to it. You did it before, you can do it again. Pick a sensible eating plan that doesn't deprive you too much so you can stick to it. It took you 8 months to gain the weight, so give yourself at least that much time to lose it. If you prepare yourself for a slow changes, you won't get discouraged. Good luck. You can do it.
Hello fellow shorties! My name is Jessica, I am a 25 year old grad student and here is a bit more about me...
1. Weight Loss History:
I am 5'0" and throughout most of my pre-teen/teen years was a bit chubby. I have been 5 feet tall since I was 11 years old and at 12 I weighed around 125lbs. Late teens I got the weight down unintentionally by just increased activity and decreased the trips to grandmother's house after school (where food is constantly thrown at you). When I was 19 I actively dieted (too extreme most of the time), exercised vigorously at least 5 days per week and worked at a physically demanding job on an ambulance. I got down to 97 pounds. Over the past 5-6 years I have been up and down, but am currently 106lbs and would like to loose 8-9 to get to 98-97. (like others in this group I have a very small frame, and 98lbs is NOT too thin!)
2. History with Calorie Count:
I used calorie count in 2007 and went from 115 to 104 in 7 months. Not very fast but it was fine for me! I think the slow pace helped me keep most of it off. I hope to have the same results (maybe a little faster) this time!
3. Reason for joining this group:
I thought that with a little support and some people to hold you accountable (even if only in theory) the dieting would be a little easier! It is hard for people who are taller, or have larger frames to understand that being less than 100 lbs is not unhealthy if you are 5 feet tall and have a small frame. I thought that people in this group would understand that.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I don't know about interesting... I am a 25 year old graduate student studying Human Anatomy (the problems I see in the cadavers makes me want to be even more healthy!) and doing research in neuroscience. I am applying to medical school for 2010, so fingers crossed! I love the outdoors (when its not too cold), hiking, rock climbing, scuba diving, traveling, volunteering, fireplaces, music, learning new things, reading... I'll stop there. : )
I have enjoyed getting to know you all a bit and I look forward to reaching our goals together!
Hi my name is Tj and I am 24 year old female
1. History with weight loss: Hello I am 4'11" & have been that height since I was 10. Not always chubby but was in school. Moved back to Michigan & gained 20+ lbs, decided that was plenty & have since taken 12 of that off & still going. I lift weights & try to do cardio twice a day to keep metabolism high. Goal to try to get to my pre-move weight of 105 with way more muscle but 107 would be fine.
2. History with Calorie Count: Have been into nutrition from a young age so have always been well aware of cal’s & counting them.
3. Reason for joining this group: I would really like some correspondence on this forum but I have yet to receive any messages also it is sometimes odd trying to be involved in forums where people often weigh so much more than you most often because of height or are just so much taller so you know they have an extremely different body shape than you. I thought it would be nice to connect with people more like me.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am in sleep medicine & I am into bodybuilding, & weight lifting.
Hi everyone! This is a good idea having a group for us short girls, it can be so difficult, 5 lbs makes such a difference! anyway, im a 19 almost 20 year old college student, about 5'2 and i would say i weigh between 109 and 113. Last year, I gained about 10 lbs and felt horrible, but I lost it over the summer and while fluctuating slightly this year, have definitely been mainting much better. When I gain, its due to binging, which I saw other people in this group do too (makes me feel a little better haha) and would really like to stop that FOR GOOD. I now usually go about a week without binging, which is much better than last year but I still hate that full, sick, guilty feeling. I used to work out heavily in high school and went down to about 103. i would like to be about 105 or less, but that's pretty hard to maintain, and I still exercise often. Honestly if I could stay around 108 and never binge again I'd be pretty happy. Any tips are appreciated! I also tend to undereat and overexercise after a binge which starts the cycle all over again! I know I can do it I just need to focus! I'd love to be 105 by summer! Ok good luck everyone!
Hi ya'll,
My name is Jessica and I just joined the group. I'm 25 years old, 5'2'' and 127 lbs. My goal weight is 119. I'm a very athletic person and I don't want to look skinny, just toned and muscular. I think I look pretty good right now, but I'd like to shrink a few dress sizes. My dieting problem comes from lack of control around food and large portions. I'm a bit of a glutton, I think!
Hello!! Well I made it this far...I found CC so Now lets hope I can stick with it.
My story, and I will try to keep it brief is that I have always struggled with weight loss as it is a family trait. At my heaviest in my 5'4" body I have weighed 275lbs!! OUCH!. It all came on mostly around each pregnancy (2), but never came off inbetween. Well around 4 years after my last child I finally lost all my weight. I was down to 145 and I was feeling good! I lost it smart, I became active, in volley ball, softball, dancing and was enjoying life. That lasted for 4 years. But even those years of dedicated gym life included ups and downs but still only had maybe 20lbs each way.
My whole lift up til this time I had pain in my hips but i always thought it was just arthritis from a car accident I was in as a 14 year old. I could never have been more wrong. 4 years after losing my weight and being the most active I have ever been in my life I fell down the stairs in my house doing laundry. This was the begining of what I call the end. It was determined that I have congenital hip dysplasia and I have since been through three hip altering surgeries one includes a total hip replacement since the first one didn't work!
I am physically disabled and unable to do any thing that requires lower body work out. So I constantly battle weight loss over and over again. My weight of 152 when my first surgery took place ballooned back up to 195 over a period of 11 years. I have managed to diet and take diet pills to yo-yo diet but I know this isn't healthy. I am currently at 167 and would like to get back down to my 145 again. The trouble is I need to do this without exercise.
I know this isn't healthy, but I have no other choice. My body won't let me do other wise. So my only other alternative is to eat healthy and stay moving.
I have chosen to join this group because I NEED to shake that last 21 - 30 lbs FOREVER and I hope to find people here to share the work with that have my same interests.
I am lucky to still be full time employed, I am the mother of a beautiful 16 year old young woman and a 19 year old man, and the luck new wife of a handsome hard working loving husband.
Our favorite things to do are travel, and remodel our house.
Hello.
My name is Elizabeth and I am 5'2 currently I weigh 153 lbs and I have a goal of 135 by May 17th. Things have gone slowly so far but it is only my first week.
1. History with weight loss: The last time I lost serious weight I had lived abroad (gained lots of weight there) and lost it about 25lbs at my boarding school where the food was gross and I did lots of sports. Other wise, it is very easy for me not to pay attention to my weight. I have no full length mirror in my apartment so it took me a while to realize how out of shape I look.
2. History with Calorie Count: My friend introduced me to CCl, she has lost 20lbs since Jan 8th.
3. Reason for joining this group: I am only 5'2 and alot of the other pages, the women are 5'8 and I just dont find it compareable. Also I am a meduim frame. I realize my goal is higer than some but for my health I simply need to have a healthy BMI (ok some muscle tone would be good too)
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am unemployed right now, and I should be taking the opprontunity to do some serious workouts, but I'm not. (And I am so bummed that the ice skating rink closes tomorrow, because I enjoyed that) I love photography Id like to start a webpage of my photographs but I don't know how to do it in a way where people cant "steal" my art. I eat at resturants with my boyfriend pretty often so it will be chalenging to keep the calories low. I have a "skills test" on monday for a job i really want, so here is hoping I can multiply my decimals!
May 18th is my graduation ceremony where I "walk" but I compleated college and recived my diploma in December.
May 17th is "weigh in day" for my dad sister and me. We are having a bet/contest to see who can loose the most weight by %.(it fustrates me that my 60 year old dad can loose weight better than me...NO FAIR)
May 8th is my 5 year highschool reunion. I was on the girls wrestling team in HS and I was in the 130 weight bracket and I'm estemationg that I weighed about 135 at graduation, so for all of the reasons above is the reason I chose 135 as my goal.
If all goes well, I can see if I am able and willing to loose more weight after that. If more comes off great if not then I'll work on maintnence.
Shorties =). I'm Hayley, I'm 18 years old, and a student.
History with weight loss: I was a little chubby at about 13, but later my body shape changed, and I settled around 119lbs, which was actually better than I remember. I started to actively diet around 15, and had body image problems for a good while. I had a huge anxiety and about eating and my body image, after being sick with feeling like a mad woman and feeling crap all the time I thought I would try and be healthier and actually eat proper meals. Now I am doing this I found I have gotten out of control and over done it a bit and now I am 135lbs (however I was 126 about 2 weeks ago but due to stress and binging im up even more!). I just want to lose weight, and feel better without the anxiety of eating and try to achieve my goal of 112lbs at 5ft 2!
History with Calorie Count: I've never been part of a group like this but I have counted calories before by it seems like this would be more convienient to actually stay in control and know what I am actually eating!!
Reason for joining this group:I'd like to have something in common with other shorties, as sometimes it is difficult as a lot of people are lot taller than I am, and though we weigh the same its different! I just need to be stretched out!
Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a 18 year old 1st year undergraduate student studying psychology! I work at a hospital as well as serving poorly people breakfast and cups of tea =) I am veryyy interested in psychology but also body image and weight in general (bit obcessed). I lovee to sing and play guitar but I'm not very good! I'm hoping to be a psychologist in the further =) I also have a mad hairy puppydog who is like my best friend despite being mad and hairy and also a dog.
I'll stop rambling now!
1. History with weight loss:
Umm... my weight mostly just went up as I got older... I was underweight as a small child ( I was into dance and gymnastics and didn't gain even though I ate enough). Then I stopped doing sports and started gaining weigh. I was always one of the shortest so the weight gain was even more noticeable. I never really managed to lose weigh - it just kept going up... Until I was 18, around 200lbs and absolutely miserable. (Last August)
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined Calorie Count after I returned home from the summer holidays - at my highest weight ever...
I managed to lose over 40 lbs in the first 4.5 months.. I tried to maintain for a few months - gained 3lbs back in the process.. And now I'm trying to lose again
3. Reason for joining this group:
I'm short... And I liked the name of the group
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I live in Slovenia (that's in Europe, between Italy, Croatia, Austria and Hungary - since so many people I talk to don't know where that is) I'll be 19 in April, I'm somewhere between 5'2" and 5'3" (probably closer to 5'2"? I haven't measured myself in almost 3 years, but I doubt I grew any more... I only grew about an inch between the ages of 13 and 16)
I have a small frame and my chest area is sort of nonexistant , so the excess weight and my stomach are even more noticeable... Though, after losing 43 lbs I finally noticed that I went from "no shape" to "pear shape"...
I currently weigh around 160lbs and I want to go down to around 120 - 115lbs...
I wish I was taller... My mum is 5' 7"... I guess I'm more like my grandmothers - one is 5'3" and the other one is 5' 1"
I'm the only child... And since members of my family have both high blood pressure and diabetes it's sort of important for me to lose weight before I start having health problems
I still go to school - I'm hoping to move out this autumn and start uni (I'd like to study Spanish & English)
Hi, I'm Cynthia. I'm 31 and about 1/2 and inch over 5' tall. I was always small growing up, I weighed 95 pounds and wore a size 0 when I first met my husband. I am now 136 pounds but I look like I weigh 236 because I'm so short! I've been working out for about a year now, lost about 20 pounds (at my heaviest I weighed almost 160 pounds) but recently I haven't been able to lose any weight, I've just been fluctuating between 136-138 pounds. So then I found this website and I realized that just working out at a gym isn't good enough, I need to really focus on my eating habits too. I've only been a member for a few days but I didn't realize until I started tracking my calories how many calories I was really consuming a day and no wonder why I am not losing any weight! So I'm really hoping that meeting people who are going through the same thing that I am and being able to track my eating and excercise habits will help me finally lose that last 20 pounds that I've been trying to get off. I joined this group because I feel like I can relate to this group since we're all short so we know what it's like when 1 pound looks like 10 and when I say I want to be 110 and everyone thinks that's too small, but when you're short that's not too small, that's normal! Other than that, there's not really anything interesting about me. I'm married, I have a 15 year old stepson and a 2 year old daughter. I work full time and am almost done getting my bachelor's degree, then I'll be working on my Master's. I enjoy reading and the outdoors. I look forward to meeting some new people who understand what it's like to struggle with weight and to help keep me motivated and encouraged because I don't really have anyone to diet and excercise with at home.
1. Weight Loss History: Well, I am 5'1 and currently at 131. My ideal weight is between 115 and 120. I have a large chest (which most would say is a blessing) but with being so short it makes me have a small torso and therefore look heavier than I am. I have a fairly heavy family and don't want to follow in suit.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined calorie count because I like having to keep a log and prove to myself I can do this. I am fairly new but doing pretty well.
3. Reason for joining this group:
Most people don't understand how difficult it is to be small and have a calorie goal of 1200-1300 calories a day. People always tell me "that isn't enough" but it is the recommendation of this site and my mother (who is a nutritionist!!)
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I am an accounting currently working full time and going to school full time to get my masters. My exercise has gone down hill due to this schedule. I will be done in August with the master's program!!! YAY! And then will rejoin all of the activities I love so much: dance, road biking, etc.
1. Weight Loss History:
I've never particularly had trouble with my wieght but after xmas noticed it had started to creep on so decided to do something about it. I'm 5'0 and have gone from 121lbs to 112lbs so far. My target is 105lbs by the 1st June, just in time for a planned holiday!
2. History with Calorie Count:
Only came across it the other day when googling the calorie content of something. Have been keeping my own food diary but after plateauing thought I'd give something else a go.
3. Reason for joining this group:
Same as other people really, like to see people with similar and lower targets than taller people.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I'm 23, a vegetarian and living in the UK.
Hi fellow shorties! I didn't know this group existed! This is very exciting! hehe.
I am 4'11" ish and currently weigh about 134 lbs. Reading all of your entries has made me face the hard facts...while this weight doesn't sound like a lot, it is too much, indeed! I am trying to get to about 109 lbs by October. This is a little intimidating because I haven't weighed 109 since middle school, probably. :) I have been pretty consistently in the 130s since I went off to college.
It is so good to hear from the shorties because y'all are right...135 on a small frame is just not the same as those who are taller! I joined CC a long while ago (probably a year or so ago) and haven't really been very dedicated to it. So I need your help! My heaviest weight that I remember is 138 lbs.
I am 25 and have my Master's in Social Work. I have worked mostly in mental health settings, both inpatient psych and outpatient therapy. I am currently out of work though and looking for another job opportunity. I really like social work! Most of my other interests involve spending time with friends, doing whatever we feel like doing. :) I am not married, and kudos to all that are married with kids and are trying to lose weight. I seem to have it easy after reading all of your posts! Good luck everyone!
Yay, a short people group! I'm a short person: 5'0"!
1. I've always been kinda pudgy. My parents put me on Jenny Craig before high school and I got down to 125, which was cool. Since marriage, college and a high-pressure desk job happened to me, I've ballooned to 145 so that's not cool. I want to be 115, because it's attainable and why not?
2. I joined CC a couple years ago, and when I use it the site is extremely effective. The trick is to use it! I've been going strong for about 2 weeks now and can already feel the results.
3. The Husband (and my biggest cheerleader!) travels a lot for work, so I don't always have someone around to keep me in check. I figure if I have to hold myself accountable to someone else it'll make me less inclined to creep back to my old, bad habits.
4. I'm 26 and live with The Husband. He's a professional athlete, so no pressure or anything! My main reason for losing weight is so I can enjoy my life and I can do the things I always wanted to do but lack the physical skill or confidence. Also, I'm thinking about starting a family soon, and I want to be a good role model for my kids for living a healthy, active lifestyle.
Good day everybody! My name is cat and I'm 4'10 AND ONE HALF. As you know that one half is very important! So here it goes :
I was always skinny until I was 19 years old. I remember people asking me if I ate, and yes, I did. Lots, but healthy. But because I have a big frame I never weighed less then 110, even really reallly skinny. Then I met my now ex-husband who introduced me to sugar, fried food, soda, chips, chocolate... oh boy. I started having problems. We've been divorced for 5 years and I'm still struggling to get back to my previous weight. I am now 143 pounds I've been lifting weight for two months and just found this website. I love it. So now, I was hoping to go down to 130 at least before july, I'm going on my honeymoon with my new hunny.
I am joining this group for the same reason all of you did, because losing weight is different for a shorter person.
Well, for the rest, I'm 35 years old, two boys from my previous mariage. I have met the love of my life and we got married one year ago but never had the chance for a honeymoon, until now... leaving next month. One of the reasons that motivate me is that my husband has been a bodybuilder for years and I don't feel confortable when I look at him, and then I look at me... LOL. Hard to explain but some of you may understand, I've seen a few athelete's wives around ;).
Good luck to everyone!
What type of food should not be eaten?
Calorie Count does not prescribe a particular diet or tell people to avoid particular foods. We only ask that you eat a balanced diet... Read more
