Hi! Today is my first day and my first post etc. I am very inspired by your story and that you lost so much using this system. I am very excited about being a member and really hope to lose the weight I want by May of 09. I am currently 225 (will know exactly when I return from the gym later tonight) and want to be 153. It is an agressive target by May of 09 but I know what I have to do, it is a matter of doing it that has been a problem. I have made some drastic changes in lifestyle and a committment to myself this year, so I hope to be able to stick to it.

I am  a mother of two (36yrs), 14 and 6, I work full time and go to school part time, I will finish my MS this year too in May! We moved last summer to be close to my school, so I can bike the kids to school and bike around town pretty easily. The year before I had a back injury which added a few pounds on that were impossible to take off when I couldnt excersise, but I am healed up and ready for my active lifestyle again.  I have started to eat vegetarian (still ate fish though) in February of 08 but started to eat some chicken again until I learn all the proper ways to mix food, veggies etc to make good nutritional vegetarian meals.

I love to read,  bike and garden... enjoy the beach and I just booked a amazing, all girls week away in May 09 to celebrate my weight loss and graduation... I hope I can do it!

Where do I begin??!!??  Well Im 21 y/o.  I've been struggling with my weight since the 6th grade......Let me rephrase that.  I've been overweight since the sixth grade, but to be honest I didn't start trying to lose weight until my jr year in highschool...I started out just exercising(which was doing a lot to me) and once I saw a few result I guess I got to invloved because I developed an eating disorder....I'd throw up and not eat at all sometimes.....I lost 84 lbs in about 4 months….I was sick but I was happy.  That is until my mom found out *worst day of my life*.  Anyway I was forced to go to a doctor and so on….you know the story….Eventually I stopped all together.  I wouldn’t say it was easy because it’s an addiction to be honest with you…..But I did stop.  I went to school In Atlanta which was quite an experience I have a little over a yr left……I had gained every pound back plus some, fortunately I found craigslist in june and have a had Pretty speedy results.  I’m not sure if its water or wat but It’s a back and forth thing and I’d prefer consistency in my life lol….I know quite a lot about diests because I’ve tried them all lol but I am very anxious to make a lifestyle of this not a diet…diets don’t go on forever!!! I appreciate ALL tips… and advice.  I don’t have much else to say!!!!

Hi, I'm 29 years old and have been on and off diets since my first child 11 years ago. I have 3 little girls that keep me busy 11, 6 and 22 months. So now I'm trying to work off the weight from my last baby. I have tried everything weight watchers, b-12 and other pills. They work but I end up gaining the weight back in the end. I started back on my diet July 24th at 232 my hightest weight ever. Now I'm down to 217 my goal is to be 160-165 by May 2009. I feel that is a reasonable goal. I am really commited to it this time. I don't want to turn 30 and still be over 200 lbs and my girls are getting older and I don't want them to be ashame of their mother. Plus me and my husband are ready for family trip and i want to be comfortable in my own skin whenever we go. My enemy is cookies.. I try to keep them out of my house now and have more fruit and other healthy snacks around but with kids it is hard b/c that is what they want. I hope to stick with it this time and reach my goal and be happy!

OK I am the old man of the group so far,  I am 42.  I have been over weight my entire adult life.  I am like most other dieters in that I have lost and gained weight over and over and over again.  Well I stopped dieting and starting working on my life style.  I am down from 258 to 237 and would like to be at 165 by May. That is like 2.5 pounds a week.  I CAN DO IT.  We had a family get togather in July and I was embarrassed at my size.  My family was acting diffrent towards me and it is because they want me to be around longer.  My biggest problem is that I am a truck driver by day and don't eat the right foods most of the time.  Sometimes I just don't eat at all until I get home at night.  Only having one meal a day or eating snacks during the day is killing me.

I will be there for you to lend an ear if you will glady plant your foot on my butt if I start slacking.  Let's get this weight off.

Hi!  I have been using CC for a few months now and have lost 12.5 lb so far.  My genetics are such that the weight is easily put on but not so easily taken off.  I usually eat healthy and exercise to stay at a healthy weight but lately the weight was sneeking on (which happens easily after 40 I'm learning, I'm 41) so I needed to get more formal about the process.

In the past the only thing that has worked effectively for taking off weight on purpose has been counting calories.  I found CC when searching the web for free calorie counters.

Now that I have a good head start on the 40 lb I want to lose I thought it would be nice to join a group, especially since winter is just around the corner and it's harder to stay motivated when it is cold outside and the days are short.

Interesting details about myself...I work at a local post-secondary educational institution as a counselor.  I have 4 children which I am raising by myself.  One has left home and the other three will be finished secondary school within the next two years.  I have no pets because I want to be able to explore some new career directions when my children are gone.  I live in beautiful Northern Alberta, Canada which is without a doubt God's country.  I love to hike, garden, read, spend time with my family and friends and am very involved in my local Christian church.  My goal/reward is to be able to take a two or three day hike in the back country of the Rocky Mountains when I have lost this weight.

Some impressively motivated people have already posted - l'm glad to be among you!

Hi! I want to be down to my ideal weight in May because my oldest daughter is getting married then and I don't want to be heavy for the pictures.  My weight as been creeping up as I age.  Guess my metabolism has slowed down.  Doesn't seem to me I eat that much but yet my clothes are getting tight.

You know I had that problem at the start,  then people on the list started telling me to eat my total calorie count for the day.  And after three days of eating the weight started to come off again.  Remember when you don't eat your body thinks it is starving and saves the FAT...

3. Reason for joining this group:

Well I wanted to lose weight since three years ago. But since I didnt know much about calories I used to cut way to much on carbs and calories and dance all day so I lost weight quickly and I think that was because I was young back then too. then I gained it wall back with some more. So my start was about 170 lbs then I climbed up to 220 now I am down to 205.

Now my wedding is getting closer and closer and I dont want to end up with horrible skin want to look healthy and glowing. So if I reach my goal weight by May it will be a slow and steady progress I think.

And I joined CC+ because I have so many questions sometimes, and need many support from other people who are doing this same thing.

Hi,

I'm 58. I started at 213 in February. I am currently at 179. I'd like to be 140.  I started by using a website called Stickk.com which I highly recommend.  You can set up wagers around goals, to give money to charity or anticharities (groups you would not want to get your money), although you don't have to if you don't chose. You check in weekly against whatever goal you set.  I set goals of two pounds a month and exercise five days a week.  I have reset them over time.  I picked an anticharity to whom I would never give a dime, and that helped me motivate to make sure I got off my duff and did the exercising and watched the diet.  I started with around ten minutes of exercise a day, and no way to count calories.

I found CC some months later in a search for a BMI calculator, and it has really pushed me forward in meeting my goals.  I count every calorie, and love the fact that this gives me calories back for walking the dog, which I now do for closer to an hour a day.  I also use the Wii Fit program on my kids' Wii.  I also like doing the diet analysis, as I am prediabetic and really watching my carb intake.

I work from home doing computer work for a hospital system , and take a break midday to walk the dog.  I have a job I love, an interesting family made up of a painter (as in paintings, not houses), my 86 year old mother-in-law and my 26 year old Down Syndrome daughter, who is quite independent, works etc.   We all enjoy each other, with occasional friction from tired people, stressed people, but less often than you might expect. There is another daughter up east who is an attorney with whom I e-mail most days, and two step-daughter nurses and a stepson in grad school for forestry.

I gained a lot of weight over the past eight years, in mouring for the death of a child, my only son.  Taking control of exercise and diet was a way to show myself and my family that I was regaining some control over myself again, more than just enough to get through the day, work, and cook dinner.

My goal is 140-145 and I am in no real hurry to get there.  I want to lose weight, and keep it off, and eat well and walk my dog.  I know at some point I will have to boost my exercise, but for now, I consider any day I have gotten out there to walk a victory, and any day the calorie count is 1250-1300 a victory.

So I'm neither young or old, I get pretty sad but now can see glimmers of calm and even happiness.  I'm really happy to be losing the weight, and I try not to talk about it among family and friends (I'd rather just do it) so it is nice to maybe find a group out here.  People have started to comment, so the first half of this journey is paying some dividends, beyond the fact that I feel better, sleep better and have a better attitude.  I even like having to hitch my pants up, since I am too close to a new size to not wait a pound or two more to get new ones.  That will be my third size change.

I hope everyone enjoys this site as much as I do, and finds it as educational.  E-mail anytime; I tend to sleep and work at odd hours, the joy and curse of telecommuting.

Hi I am 58 and just starting Calorie count.  I am at 299 today.

My weight has been fluctuating between 293-302 for the last month.

I am searching for inspirational help and to motivate myself to get back with it.

I cannot exercise anything but upper body due to bad arthritis in my knees.  If I walk or do anything that exercises my knees then I have a hard time walking the next day.

We have a bow flex so there is something that I can do to work upper body.

We just started 10 hour days at work and I am trying to adjust to that right now.

skroggy:

You CAN do it!  I'm rooting for you.  I've got 58 to lose by May, let's do it!  :)

Have you tried the elliptical?  I have arthritis too (I'm 25, sucks) in my knees and in my back, and for cardio the elliptical is SO much better for me, so much easier on the knees than the treadmill.  After the treadmill I'm usually in pain, but never after the elliptical.  I have had surgeries and everything - and I swear by it.  Try it!

Another reason it may be hard to walk the next day is that you're not used to exercising, and also because you're still heavy.  I'm telling you, if you try the elliptical it'll help.  And it might hurt a little the next day, but you just have to suck it up sometimes.  I do.  I have to, to lose the weight.  Cardio is key!

I hope I can be a help to you.  Good luck!!!  :)

Julie

Well, I learned very unhealthy eating habits from my parents, and My weight has fluctuated around 180-190 for a few years.   I am currently 24 years old and my husband and I got a gym membership to help up get a kick for working out (he has a great metabolism and is trying to gain weight/muscle).  I began at 192 as weighed at the end of August in the gym.  I am currently at 184, which has been very rewarding for me.  I joined CC to help me keep track of things a little better, to have some accountability, if only for myself to see.  I joined the group for familiarity for people in the same place.  I want to lose around 33 more pounds by May.  Not looking to be really skinny or anything ( my husband asked me not to...believe it or not) I just want to be much more healthy and active.

I work as a nanny, so i am on my feet a lot for work, my family consists of just my husband and I for now, and I usually spend my free time doing photography, blogging, studying, and reading, and new activities include hiking, biking, and the gym.

Its been a hard road, but I'm glad to be going the right way on it now.

I'm back on CC after a year and 1/2 hiatus...and I've lost 10 lbs so far!! Yeah! 2 winters ago I found CC and lost 30 lbs by spring. Since I crept back up to 184. I'm 29, and 5'7". My goal is 140 by May. I'm currently at 174! I'm so excited to be focused again. I'm also doing yoga and as soon as we get enough snow will get out there xcountry sking. Till then I try to hit the treadmill every other day during the work week and stay active on the weekends with the doggies and household chores etc.

GO US! WE CAN DO IT!!

I've battled weight gain ever since high school, and have managed to swing between 135 and 190 for the past 20 years.  I'm 49, and hit 185 lbs last week and decided it's time to get serious again.  I'm married to an athlete who loves working out 3-4 hours each day; I exercise because I know I have to (so it hasn't happened very often).  I have a desk job that requires a lot of travel (60-80% of my time).  My greatest challenge is keeping motivated - my husband and I live five hours apart so he can be with his children from a previous marriage - so I'm on my own most of the time, and it's easy to stop when no one is watching.  I will drop from 185 (180 today) to 145 by May.  I found CC by browsing today, and love the calorie counter and other tools, but mostly, need to know I'm doing this with others.  I know it's FOR me, but it's always more fun with someone else!  Oh yes, and for interesting tidbits... my favorite hobby is competitive handgun shooting (my husband competes on a world level)... gets me outdoors with great folks, and busts every stereotype I had about gun owners!

Hi everyone!

I have never really tried to lose weight before, because I have never had a reason to worry about it.  However, my metabolism is catching up with me and my doctors told me I need to start worrying about my weight because every year, I keep gaining.

I am 26 years old and weigh 175 lbs.  According to my BMI, I need to loose 25-35 lbs to be "healthy".

On top of that, I am getting married in May and want to look spectacular on my wedding day!

However, I cannot seem to get up the ambition to do anything about it, and when I do, I quickly "fall off the wagon".  So I am asking for your help to keep me going to get healthier and look amazing in my wedding dress!

Hey everybody, I'm so excited to find a community where we can supposrt each other in out weight loss goals. I will be graduating from college with my bachelor's in May 2009 and getting married in August. This is the first "program" I've joined to try to lose weight. In the past I generally try to just eat less or substitute more healthy food for less healthy. I think the tools on this website, including the food tracking and the food grades will help me to stick to it. My biggest thing being a college student is having time and remembering to write everything down. Since I'm on the computer a lot anyway, this program will be easier.

I'm currently 168lbs and 5'4". CC says I need to lose about 40 lbs to have the right BMI, not to mention look hot in my wedding dress (and out of it too Wink). About 3.5 years ago in high school, I was around 130lbs. I know I can get back there, and now I have the tools to do it. No more excuses for me!

1. History with weight loss: I never had trouble losing weight before I had kids. I was 24 the day after my 1st son was born, 25 with the 2nd, 26 with the 3rd and 30 when I had my 4th. I lost weight easily the 1st time but I was working part time and I think that helped. I haven't worked since. The 3rd time we went thru a real bad rough patch in our marriage and I had PPD really bad so I lost more weight than with the other 2 kids. This time I haven't lost anything. I actually gained bc I was craving milk while nursing. I would easily drink a gallon myself every 2-3 days. My son is 13 months and I am just now back to where I was after I gave birth to him. I don't have motivation this time around.

2. History with Calorie Count: I just signed up today and I hope to find friends that are having some of the same issues so we can help each other.

3. Reason for joining this group: My sister had planned her wedding for May 15th and I wanted to look good in the LIME GREEN maid of honor dress!! I weigh 145 and am 5 ft 3/4 inches! After 4 kids my body will NOT look good in lime green! Anyway, she changed the date to July but May is still my target. That way I can go to the lake with my family when school gets out and feel great! I was 105 when My hubby and I met in 1999 and 2 years later when I got pregnant the 1st time I was 117. My target weight according to CC is 115.2 lbs. I will def be happy with that! Heck I would be happy at 125! I would love to be 105 again but doubt that will ever happen again. We'll see!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a SAHM and work PDO-Parent's Day Out- at my church on Tuesday and Thursday. I have 4 boys (1st born 8-1-01, 2nd born 6-5-03, 3rd born 12-6-04 & 4th born 9-14-07) and have been married for almost 8 years. We have been together almost 10 years. I do not have pets and I love to scrapbook--only I haven't had time for that in the last 4 years. i loove the outdoors. Love to camp and fish. Love to go to watch races and Monster Trucks. I love to be involved with my kids' classes in school but can't usually bc of the 2 smaller ones.
