Hello, I'm 21 and live in Sherman,  I was overweight all through school and got teased about it constantly. I'm 5'5" and my high weight was 230 lbs right after I had my son, but usually it went from 170-200lbs on a regular basis. I joined cc in October '07 after breaking up with my son's father and watching "Super size me" (I worked at Mcdonalds at that point) I decided that I was tired of mopping about being fat and actually do something about it. Since then I hit 135lbs last May but have gained 6 lbs back, so currently I am 141lbs and want to get down to 125lbs or even 130lbs with more muscle, I just want to look good for once really. Anyway I have a new job and it doesn't revolve around greasy food but I'm not running around as much so its a trade but I would do anything to not have to work at a fast food place again. however as of now I don't have a set schedule at work so I'm getting some crazy hours and that is messing with my eating pattern. I have a 3 1/2 year old little boy and he is the love of my life. I also live with my mom, 6 cats and 1 very dumb dog.

1. History with weight loss: I distincly remember the summer between my 5th grade and 6th grade year--I ate the summer away. I gained so much weight that summer. Then, when I was in 8th grade, my mom helped me lose weight. Now that my mother has passed away, I find myself struggling for help.  My mother was a nutrionist. When I lost that weight, I was the skinniest I've ever been, I got so many compliments. I was in the beginning of my freshman and sophomore years of high school when I weighed my least. Now, I weigh the most I ever have.

2. History with Calorie Count: I just joined!

3. Reason for joining this group: I need help in managing my calories and I need support. I want to lost 80+ pounds!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I have 2 dogs and 2 cats; One of the dogs is a rat terrier, the other is a mini eskie. I live in my mother's old house with my husband; she passed away last December. We are newly married and I am enjoying it very much, but I know I would enjoy it more if I could lose some weight.  I'm not sure if it's just me or my meds...

Name: Eric, and I am originally from Dover-Foxcroft, ME

History with weight loss:I had a thyroid problem when I was thirty that slowly caused me to gain weight until I got to about 220 lbs about 1.5 years ago. At that point I had managed to get a 42" waist and look like a stuffed sausage ;-) On New years eve 2007 (2006 - 2007 NYears) I made a vow to lose weight. Since then I have lost 70 lbs and 12" off my waist.  I run ~ 3 miles a day, Hike, Kayak and swim and have never felt better

History with Calorie Count: I started calorie count right after that fateful new years and I have used it ever since as my total weight loss diary and as my chat support group

Reason for joining this group: Ahh well you can move the boy from Maine, but you cant take Maine outta the boy!!

Interesting Details: Im 43, a Security Architect for a fortune 100 insurance company, I love to play guitar and World of Warcraft. I also love to play frisbee with my 5 year old yellow Lab PJ (thats Pretty Jewel!)

Name: Hi fellow (and former) Mainers!   I'm Denise, from southern Maine, married with 2 teenaged sons.

History with weight loss: Average weight growing up and into my early 20's.  When I got pregnant with my first child in 1991, I put on about 90 pounds, most of which I shed in 2000/2001 with a dilegently nutritious diet and daily walking, but I slowly put the weight back on over the last 7 years.   Now I need to lose 100 to bring me to my ideal weight (according to cc), so today I begin!

History with Calorie Count: Just discovered the site and joined today!  I was researching exercises for flabby bellies and hit on a forum entry.

Reason for joining this group: We Mainers should stick together.   And maybe I'll find a tennis/walking/hiking buddy as a bonus.

Interesting Details:  I'm 44, a part-time secretary for my town's parks dept (a job I love)  I'm technologically savvy (built my computer).

Eric, I also play World of Warcraft (soon-to-be 80 draenai mage), a game which over the past 3 years has been a major culprit toward my expanded waistline.     My two sons play the game also (hubby prefers Call of Duty)  Together the four of us have set up a geek's dream-basement of LAN'd PC's, XBox 360, and Wii, and we are united in our common geekdom.   The difference is that my sons are toned and fit, with Snap memberships and three seasons of track and soccer in school.    My husband isn't a fitness buff, but he's never had to watch his weight.  I, on the other hand, have pretty much traded a fit figure for WoW gold.   I need to do less questing, and more walking in the real world.   Immediately.   Starting today.

I love walking the beach in winter.  I love Maine in winter!   I have a Jack Russell who is beside herself with joyful delight if I make a move toward her leash, so I have a good reason to get out walking more often!

That's all for now.   Glad to meet you all!

Hey everyone.  Here are some facts!

1. History with weight loss:  Always is decent shape up through college.  Now, the desk job and beers after work are starting to add up quick.  My goal is to lose 20 lbs by the end of June this year.  I am currently at 195lbs.  My normal weight was between 170-180 lbs.

2. History with Calorie Count:  New member (joined yesterday)

3. Reason for joining this group:  Just recently moved to the southern coast of Maine.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a financial analyst in a large healthcare company. I have a girlfriend, two brothers and a sister.  I have an awesome dog (Aussie).  I enjoy snowboarding, surfing, and socializing with friends.

Thanks!

Not sure if this is still an active group, but I'll give it a shot!

I'm a 45 year old divorced professional at the University of Maine. Two adult children, although one still lives with me while he attends college and my daughter goes to USM.  Like so many histories (although not all) I also have been "heavy" most of my life.  It's just that it has crept up and up and up and I didn't FEEL any different at 500 lbs than I did at 160 in high school.

I've been lucky and have no health problems, no diabetes (despite a bit of of family history with it). However, six weeks ago I had an accident and broke my arm.  It was a complicated break which may result in the need to replace my shoulder with an artificial joint.  The surgeon told me that he couldn't even physically put the joint IN unless I lost 150-200 lbs.  I'm not sure if it was the constant pain of the broken arm, the difficulty in doing ANYthing with one arm, let alone with my size or the surgeon scaring me, but I began changing my lifestyle that day.

In the intervening 6 weeks, I've lost 55 lbs and started walking each day. I was concerned about that amount of weight loss but the nutritionist seems to think that it's ok at this point and will slow down.  Probably before I'm ready for it to do so. I've also reconnected with CC and started logging or rather tracking my weight loss.  There's something about seeing the graph that really seems to make it more REAL to me.  I am also finding the food logging helpful and as I begin more activities I'm looking forward to puttng that option to good use.

Sometimes it feels as though I'm the only one in the world with my issues, my concerns.... fears etc.  I thought perhaps with this group I might find someone with whom to cheer for ourselves and others. Being open... and honest about my weight is not something I've ever really done, but I am finding that it's helping make it more real to me to do so.

Some of my goals for the coming year(s) include bicycling next summer, learning to belly dance, hike Mt. Katahdin, bike Acadia, take classes in T'ai Chi, ..... and simply doing a better job at integrating my physical and mental self... being more whole and liking that whole better.  LOL  Ok, I admit it, I could have a bit of a "new-age-y" vibe to me if I let it happen!

Hello,

My name is Julie, most people call me bubbles. I am tired of people telling me I have a pretty face and thats as far as it goes. I will be turning 41 in January and there is so much I want to do and try in my life but alot of it depends on me getting healthy and losing weight.

But the big thing I have realized, and I hate admitting it because I am used to being very independant, I can't do this alone. If I am going to do these changes it has to be fun and interesting or I'll wimp out.

With me moving to Maine a couple of months ago I feel like its time to start fresh with everything new. I'd really like to find new friends that can relate and keep things positive.

Ready when you are Maine!
