Hi, I am Tracy and I am 28 years old.

I have always dieted to try and maintain a slim figure, but within the last year I have really let myself go.  I quit dancing, and all forms of exercise in general.

I just joined Calorie Count to help me lose the weight I put on in the last year and get back into shape since doing it on my own just wasn't doing it.

I love to dance.  It is a really awesome way to stay in shape and release stress.  I am starting off slowly by taking a ballet class now.  Hopefully before too long I will be up for taking more and get back to taking 4 or 5 hours a week.  I think ballet, jazz, and hip hop are my favorite.

Nothing too interesting with me, like I said, I am 28 years old.  I have a desk job so not a lot of physical activity.  I have a 6 year old boy, 2 dogs, and I am pretty much a homebody.  I have been in a relationship for almost 2 years now.  And if I can't dance, I like to play sports.  I bored with going to the gym and I really lack the motivation.

I've put most of my details on my bio page.  I use CC to help lose extra weight, am married, 3 lovely kids.

I've enjoyed dancing more than most men as far as I know.  I started by taking modern dance while at university.  I performed in two of the faculty's mainstage shows and still remember what fun that was.

After university I took ballet for a number of years, before I got married and then again after a break of a few years.  I haven't been able to keep it up what with 3 kids, full time work, a house, etc. But I've maintained a love for it.

I think I prefer ballet to almost all other dance forms.  My two older boys weren't interested but knew that I danced. I think it would have been really good training for them, and even good for their soccer.  And I'm sure that when they start 'noticing' girls, they would have loved dancing even more.

My 6 year old daughter is starting this September at a school run by a husband and wife who are friends of mine, so I'm very excited about that.  Who knows, maybe I'll be able to take her on stage for a pas de deux.

Favourite Ballet?  Swan Lake but also really like Le Sacre du Printemps (guess that's still a ballet).

Well, it's a small group but there are a lot of members who put ballet down as an interest so maybe it will grow.

Cheers

Hey guys!

i just realised that when i started the group, it added this automatically on my behalf (cheeky)! so now im gonna reply with my info!

I started dancing when i was three but stopped when i was about 11! always missed it, it wasn't really upto me that i stopped! (teacher was an old bag but thats a story for another day kids!) anyway, i took it up again when i was 18 and love it!

xx

I'm a 21 year old university student from the East coast of Canada and I've been having issues with my weight since I started post-secondary schooling :( I joined Calorie Count because I was sick of trying to lose weight by myself and wanted to read about other people's experiences and share motivation/frustration. I actually didn't know you could join any groups on this website until today (because I pay attention to stuff) but I joined this because I love to dance! I started with jazz when I was six, but quit for two and a half years in junior high only to start again when I was 15. I currently take jazz, ballet, modern, and bellydance but I've also had a bit of training in hip hop and pointe. Yay dance!

Hi my name is Zoe I'm 21 and am going to university in Toronto for Dance!!! I've always struggled with weight loss for as long as i can remember... i am not a stick thin dancer thats for sure... and now need to loss weight due to an injury in my knee. My teachers think that the best way for me to recover and progress is to healthfully lose some weight. So here i am!

Hi everyone:

I'm Bethany from Pittsburgh, and I grew up in a small dance studio.  I'm now 24, and I teach young children dance as well as continue my own studies.  Since turning 21, I've gradually hidden my dancer body under 20 pounds.... and it's definitely time to fix that before it gets any worse.

My goal is to nip it in the bud before I'm 50lbs overweight.

Good luck, dancers!

having been a dancer most of my life, i've had to be psychotically obsessive about regulating my diet (i'm sure you can all relate!). i broke my foot a couple years ago and stopped dancing, and also stopped dieting like a dancer... i'm healed now, and am trying to get back to my 25-pounds-ago dancer body so i can get back to business! so i joined this group hoping to get support from people who know how specific demands are on dancers and to give me a reprieve from non-dancers saying, 'why are you dieting? you're not even fat!'... i'm hoping that mingling with people who understand the difference between 'normal person' fat and 'dancer' fat will help keep me focused!

nice to meet you all :)

Hi, I'm 22 and I've been dancing for 15 years. Since ballet is my life, I've always had to maintain strict weight guidelines. Two years ago I was dancing at Boston Ballet and got pneumonia, which took me out for about 3 months. I lost all of my muscle tone and couldn't even lift my leg off the ground. I got really frustrated, moved and went back to school to finish my degree in Psychology and Cell Bio. Now I'm about to graduate and am dancing seriously again, and the 20-25 pounds I've added are doing me no good, so it's time to do away with them!

In addition to ballet, I love hip hop, modern, and jazz, and I play violin for a regional symphony in my town. I'm pre-med as well so I love learning about the body and the physiology of movement.

Like the post above me, I'm hoping to find some people who sympathize with the weight loss necessary for a dance career even though to most people I am anything but overweight.

Thank You. I am 36 years old, mother of four, nursing student. STRESSED. I am roughly 20 lbs overweight. I have tried diets, diet pills, you name it. I just want to lose the weight and keep it off. Graduation is coming up plus I just want to be healthy for myself and kids.

I love dancing. I dont do it too often but if there was one way I could do this everyday, I would find the time. I just love it. Probably would help me a lot too. I love hip-hop. I am jamaican and love reggae music, but my kids have introduced me to hip-hop and I have new loves there too.

Hi Everyone!  Thanks for letting me join this group.  I don't really have a weight loss history, just a weight gain history!  I'm 27 years old and would love to lose 70 pounds.  I joined calorie count after realizing that I had been using the site almost daily when I kept track of my calorie intake on paper.  I joined this group because right about the time I started to take my health seriously, I started dancing again.  I had taken ballet and jazz as a kid and loved it.  Then middle school and high school happened and suddenly academics became more important.  After that came college and then work and I just realized that I haven't danced regularly in 14 years!

I started taking salsa/bachata/merengue lessons at the beginning of April and I love it!  I have excellent teachers and really supportive friends who love dancing.  I'm not great, but I'm improving quickly. There is also a ballroom dance company and class here in Ames and I think I may start going to their parties.  I just want to learn and have fun and do something physical instead of spending my evenings watching movies or chatting online.

Dancing has also helped serve as an impetus to lose weight.  The guys always ask the skinnier girls to dance and I would love to have random guys ask me to dance instead of just my guy friends who know me.

1. History with weight loss: Reached 260 pounds and an am trying to lose 85 pounds to be 175

2. History with Calorie Count: Just started, but I have lost twenty pounds before I go on :)

3. Reason for joining this group: Dance is my favorite form of exercise, the only thing that I look forward to for exercising and plan my day around it

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: College Student, Speech and Debate, House MD, Lost, True Blood...I am a nice person. :)

1.  When I was in college, I developed anorexia and lost weight when I didn't need to in the first place. I have been for inpatient treatment and now am in a better place both mentally and physically. Although recently I have lost a few pounds and need to get them back on, which is proving to be difficult.

2.  I joined calorie count to help me keep track of what I was eating and to make sure I was increasing my amount in order to gain.

3.  I LOVE dance, especially ballet. I took a year of ballet when I was younger, but quit. Later, I regreted quitting and really wanted to start back again. I wasn't able to (because they didn't have a beginning class for people my age) until I went to college and took it as a PE class. I continued taking it when I transferred schools and this past school year have been taking it at a Christian dance studio. I'm not all that good...YET (LOL), but I love it!

4.  I'm in grad school to get my master's in counseling, I love to scrapbook, swimming, Arizona, TLC, HGTV.

I am going to be a senior in high school and do ballet every day, very intense!  i love it and it means the world to me.  i really need to lose 25-30 pounds though to get to a professional weight.  i've slowly gained over the last couple years and would really like to lose it so i will be ready if i decide to pursue a professional career in ballet rather than go to college.  i would love some support from someone who understands the demands and will support my below normal weight goal.

I love dance more than anything and I enjoy doing all kinds of different styles. Genetically my family is tall but my brothers and I both went through being plump in puberty and eventually thinning out with our height. I will be 15 in December, but my doctor thinks my body is more of a developed 16 or 17 year old. I lost most of the weight and since Christmas of 2007, I have lost 24 pounds, but still need to trim up certain places. One of my biggest problems is having a strong core, but it being undefined. Since fat needs to be used as energy and doesn't transform into muscle, it's a struggle. I'm hoping by joining Calorie Count, I can really get serious and strict about weight. I'm a health nut, but recently I've felt a little loose about some foods. I have a large bone structure so I'm not sure how much of a ballet body I have potential for, but my dream is to dance with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey, or perhaps a sort of hip hop on pointe company.

1. History with weight loss: I've always maintained around my body's happy weight...even though I'm not happy with it. I have struggled with disordered eating tendencies for many years and it's lead to many weight fluctuations, but never more than 10 lbs over or under my natural weight.

2. History with Calorie Count: I've lurked on CC for several years and finally decided to join in hopes that I can reduce my weight in a more healthy manner.

3. Reason for joining this group: I love to dance. I've danced my entire life, and I'm currently working as a ballet teacher. I hope to join a professional company soon, but if not, I will continue to teach as it brings me great joy.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: In addition to teaching, I have another full-time job, but I hope to make teaching my full-time job in the near future.

Hi ya,

Gymnast and dancing helped me stay normal growing up, as a dance major in college I was at my lowest which was around 165 and although I was dancing at my best, I was horribly unhealthy and my joints were a mess so my doctors told me I had to stop or it would get worse. So I stopped dancing except for teaching in the summer and since then have become 211 lbs even though I am teaching and choreographing. Now that I am at my heaviest ever it has started to effect my ability to teach so I am trying to get back to 165.

My history with CC is that I used as a senior in college and was extremely successful but after the holidays hit I fell off the wagon and never got back on again... until now!

My reason for joining this group is that I love to dance! I am trained in modern, hip hop, jazz, flamanco, and African. I took ballet and tap in college but was never really all that good at it. I am a choreographer and dance teacher so I am constantly moving and dancing but I am carrying around all this extra weight and it is starting to get in the way of my creative process. So I hope this group will be able to help support me as I try to get back my dancer body. Laughing

Aside from dancing, I am a full time grad student, getting my second masters in sec. ed. English (my first is in Irish Literature) and I am getting ready to start student teaching in the next few months so hopefully I can stay with this goal through all that stress.

Hello! I am currently a freshman in college but I, like many teenagers, am not confident with my body image.  Healthy meals are prepared when i'm at home, but I tend to eat out quite a lot.

I am taking online classes this year, so i've become more sedentary than usual.  Many of my friends have gone to distant schools as well, so my love of tennis and day-long-shopping sprees have been put on hold until I myself transfer to a more populous area.  My family has a history of diabetes, depression, thyroid problems, and being overweight so I am extremely worried about what my future health could be like if I don't start living a healthier lifestyle.

I just recently discovered Calorie Count, and love the idea of community support!  The online food and excercise journals are also a plus, although I am still not used to them.

I've joined this website in order to learn about leading a more active life.  This website will also be my reminder to limit my portion sizes (which I definately need to improve).  My current excercise partner is my eliptical, although we're not very close.

In addition to my previously listed interests, I enjoy listening to music, reading, designing, and dancing!  I was in tap when I was a wee child, ballet/jazz for 13 years, contemporary dance for a few years, and have been bellydancing for about 8 years just for fun :)

I would love to be at my target weight by the end of 2010.

Thank you for being my guides!
