HI! I am a teacher of college students, mother of four, grandmother of 7, and wife of 42 years. I have been 50 to 80 lbs. over my goal weight since the birth of my last child. (and he's 26). So, I lost 60 lbs last year then gained 20 of it back. So, I am on the downhill track again. I am trying to count calories and fat grams.
I have had headaches since I was 11. I have tried all kinds of different meds. Now I take Zomig (inhaler), which works very well. I seem to have headaches in spells, and this year, the headaches are mostly sinus. Only occasionally do I get a real migraine. But I never know when the cycle will change and I will get hit again. Chiropractors seem to help with the stiff neck, but not the cycles.
Any extreme is a trigger. Too much excitement, happiness, sadness, food, sleep, lack of sleep, reading, etc. Considering I am a hyperactive, emotional readaholic, I gave up a long time ago on prevention. Lol.
Hello! I am a first time mother of a soon to be 1-year-old son. I gained 30lbs while pregnant, and was overweight before getting pregnant. Now, I am working on getting the weight off. I am focusing on eating healthy, exercising, counting calories, lowering fat and sugar intake. I have been with CC since June of 2009, but only started seriously using it this month. My husband and I are coming up on our fourth anniversary, and I am very excited!
I have had headaches and migraines since I was 14. I was officially diagnosed with migraines in November of 2005, and have been treating them since with stress management, medications (topamax and relpax), and stretching exercises for my neck. Even with all of these things to keep my headaches in check, I do get them, and it is very frustrating. Having an infant to run around after, and not getting a lot of sleep doesn't help, but there isn't much I can do about it. If there is any advice out there, I am very excited to hear it!
sorry to hear about the bad experience with Verapamil. This medication is originally made to treat hypertension, and is a calcium channel blocker. So, that could be why it made you feel horrible. I was on it for a while, but my blood pressure was also slightly elevated; and my neurologist thought it was worth trying to see if it would help with my migraines. It did help at the time. I am glad that you are back on Topamax, even though it is expensive....my bank account feels the same pain. lol.
Hi, I'm an Englishwoman living in Canada. I'm 57, and retired early, mainly because of my migraine. I have severe migraine with aura which unfortunately I inherited from both sides of my family. In recent years the main trigger has been thyroid imbalance: I have an underactive thyroid and if it becomes unstable I get a lot of migraine attacks. However, there are other triggers such as sudden changes in the weather, and many of my migraines have no obvious trigger at all.
I choose not to use a preventative medicine because I've tried the ones with milder side-effects such as beta-blockers, but they didn't work and the only option left is anti-epileptics which have strong side-effects. I use triptans when I get attacks plus pain killers and anti-nausea medication.
I came across this site while calorie counting for a diet, put the calorie count toolbar on my web-browser and I've found it very useful.

Hi I have just joined the group. Been suffering with hemiplegic migraine for about 13years. Most triggers are visual, patterns, lights etc. but also get triggered by loss of fluid. Being a fitness instructor for 28years, I was told initially it was caused by overwork and stress.
However, I just get on with it like everyone else. Would be interested in anyone else with the same type of migraine.
