And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hello, I'm barb
never had weight issue till menopause this year, packed on 15 pounds especially since we quit going to the gym in march. I got a pacemaker then ( the week before I turned 49!)
I was sick of the gym and how it took away time from my new horse.
I tried weight watchers in the spring andliked the on line portion but didn't really follow through. lazy I guess. So now, I'm trying again, I like the calorie counter web it's actually easier to use.
We have two Tennessee Walking Horse geldings, both coming eight. We got mine in December and hubby's in May and we board them just a mile from the house! they are a blast, all we do is trail riding.
what are your horse(s)?
no riding now on account I just had knee surgery, so I'm inactive and not losing weight :-((

HI Barb,
I just purchased a friesian/saddlebred cross. He is 2 1/2 years old! I've got a picture of his daddy in my gallery. I love trailriding, and I'd eventually like to do some with him when he is older, but my passion is dressage.
I'm sure you will find that once your knee starts healing, you will be so much more motivated to get yourself up and workout!
But, hey, you could work on your upper body, right?
I'm personally pretty un-motivated about calorie counting, I love to eat what I want way too much. I try to get to the gym 3 days a week and I work training my horse the other 4.
So, I don't kow if I'll ever drop my 10-15 lbs., but who knows?!
I feel kind of dumb. haha. Okay so first of all i am soooo excited that there is a horse group on this site! i oficially love this site!
In November i bought a horse. She is a 6 year old Full Arabain. She is about 15.2, dark bay with a star, and little white socks on each leg. She is also good natured. I do Hunter eq. and pleasure, western, english, and trail riding. i love horses to death!
OO, don't feel dumb! we are all goofy about our horses and having others to talk to about them!
where do you trail ride? do any overnights?
i live in utah, so i do a lot of trail riding in the mountains. i love it! There is actually lots of canyons i like to go up and do overnighters. except i have had an experience with mountian lions and my horses. no one was hurt. it scared me! how bout u?
Yay! A Horsey group :)
CC/Weight loss: I joined CC Late 06 early 07. I was stressed, overworked, and blew up like a ballon in 06. Lost more than 20 lbs and then gained some of it back in the last year. CC has been good at keeping my eating in check with logging and reading some of the more useful forum posts.
Horses!: I am just as horse crazy as I was when I was 6. I did national hunter-jumper stuff as a junior - medal classes and the like. Did some national intercollegiate stuff in college and mostly have been trainer-hopping since then (moved 6 times in the last 10 years). Horseless now :( but hack about 6-7 horses owned by other people. I lesson with a trainer or two in the area (jumpers) and plan to buy again as soon as I'm done with residency and 80-hour work weeks! I work way too much because it's part of the training for my job but that will change in about 16 months.
Hello! My name is Deborah, I am 27 years old and currently weigh 221 lbs. I would like to be around 130 if at all possible. I'm not for sure if my body will even go that low! I have tried to diet too many times to count, but am after that star in the sky again. I just recently (a few days ago) joine CC and so far really have loved it!
I used to have horses when I lived at home and really enjoy going back to ride whenever I get that chance. So I figured why not join a group in which share the same hobbie. One day soon, I hope, I will be able to get on a horse without using a step stool. My dad laughs at me since I have to use the horse trailer to get on the horse. Horses has always been my way to get away from the world. If life was getting tough, I would get on my horse!
Unfortunatly, we just lost MY horse due to Arthritis around the heart. He got down one morning and didn't have the strength to get back up. That was on August 27. We buried him in the back pasture and gave him a nice headstone.
But anyway, I am a graphic designer so I sit on my rear all day long. I have one dog, my dad still has two horses that I love dearly. We live in central Missouri and grew up here. Oh! When I say "we" I mean my husband and our two boys (7 & 3).
Well, it is time for bed, so good luck to all in your journey into weight loss. Keep your heads up and those feet movin'!
Hi This is my 2nd day playing around on this site. So far it seems to have everything I was looking for. Including a forum to talk about my passion, horses. I am trying to lose the 20 pounds I've gained since I've taken a new office type postion and I haven't been having any luck. I'm a recent empty nester. Both of my kids are in college and not planning on coming back for the summer. My husband and I constantly sabotage each others good intentions of eating better. I hate winter.
I am really looking forward to spring so I can start riding every day again. I trail ride on the country roads and fields where I live. I have a quarter horse {Cisco} and a Shetland pony [Bailey]to keep him company.
Just looking for people to talk horses, eating right and life in general with
Hey everyone! I'm Kelly. I'm a graphic designer also, maddamvore! Also a complete nut-bag horse addict. SO excited this group is here!
Unfortunately my budgetary situation at the moment does not allow me to have my own horse (had to sell my baby right after college). Of course after I sold him I became much more sedentary and depressed and packed on the pounds. So, here I am. I have been kind of catch riding anything that anyone will let me get close enough to with a saddle for the last couple years. My first love is eventing, but I have done just about every discipline. :)
Recently got an amazing opportunity to be a riding instructor and trainer for a not-for-profit horseback organization that provides lessons and contact with horses for kids that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. A couple are disabled, but mostly just really great kids that want to ride. We have about 30-35 kids so far and always growing. The barn just went up yesterday. Very exciting!
There are 10 horses right now, some rescue, some donated, a couple purchased, all of whom have been put under my training (YAY!). The 5 we are riding right now are an arab, 2 paints, a quarter horse and a morgan/mystery mix. The other 5 are a herd of halflingers that were recently donated including a very cute stallion and a possibly pregnant mare. They are ADOREABLE but haven't been ridden much so they need LOTS of work before they can be used with the kids. Big project. This will be an area of exercise for me that takes no motivating. Riding as many horses as I can before the daylight gives!
My husband and I have 2 cats whom I adore. We also recently adopted a puppy who has become my jogging buddy. Very much looking forward to chatting with all of you!
OK, so let me start by saying...I have no idea if I am 'posting' properly... So, in case I am not..... SORRY! (I figure I will get the hang of this).
My name is Michele, and I just joined this site (this is my first.. No facebook ect...).. And thought it was awesome to meet some like minded horse people... who watch their weight and LOVE horses.... since I am pretty much an addicted to horses.
I have grown up riding, but at 27 work over takes my time with my Quater, Jetters... Plus, the heat of the summer in AZ! Try riding at 115 degrees....not due-able.
After graduating college and getting a real job I gained some weight... but last January I decided that needed to change and I dropped 30 lbs and hope to loose about 15-20 more! And with the weight loss I have seen in increase in how I ride... it does make a difference at least for me!
Anyway, wonderful to meet all of you, look forward to swapping stories!

My name is Terri & I've constantly struggled w/ my weight. Now I'm under the gun...I'm getting married next summer, my weight is being attributed to my migraines, & I want an overall healthier life.
I've ridden horses my entire life. Dad started taking me out w/ him before I was 2, so I blame him for my addiction to them. (I suppose there could be worse habits) I currently have a very feisty chestnut TB mare who I adore. The finance learned early on it was part of the package. But with life being so hectic, if I have time to go ride or go to the gym the barn wins every time.
When I found this group it was nice to find like-minded people.

hi! i'm b, glad to have found this group. i've been on cc a couple of days now and i'm hoping it will be the key to *finally* shedding the 'married' weight. i packed on the lbs after i tied the knot 8 years ago.
i've got two youngsters right now, a grade paint gelding, 5, and a filly that turned 3 in may. i've yet to start my filly but my gelding is doing well under saddle so far. he still needs a few wet saddle blankets but we're making progress.
nice to meet you all.
nice to meet you too charisbrb!
You must have your hands full with those youngsters!
My horse right now is 18, and I am loving his mature outlook on everything. But I look forward to someday getting a young un again!
Welcome to cc and good luck with the weight loss! I always like to think about how much happier my horse will be without my extra pounds. :)
oohhhh while i love the satisfaction that comes from successfully taking a youngster to a finished horse, there's many days i miss the chill, everything's cool attitude of my old mare. especially when they do something silly like spook at a leaf blowing across the yard lol...
no kidding on the extra pounds - what's the rule of thumb? something like 30% for the casual rider with tack? i'm sure i'm at or above that.
Hey your post got me thinking and I looked up the "rule". According to a website I found, the proper weight is 20% (including tack). So a 1000 pound horse could easily carry 200 pounds of rider and tack.
It also says for short pleasure riding, 30% is often used as well.
Interesting! There's some motivation for me, I'd like to make it easier on my older gelding.
I know what you mean about spooking at leaves blowing on the ground! That is something I don't have to worry about anymore. But soon you'll miss thier friskiness I'm sure!
Why can athletes eat so much?
