And now just go ahead and make that first post!
The reason I started a plan was due to hypertension. Didn't want to have to take a perscription for the rest of my life. I started in May at 5'6", 226 pounds, 39 yrs. old. Today (with a lot of hard work and counting) I am at 195. 31 pounds, yippee! My 40th birthday is in a few days and I couldn't think of anything better than giving myself good health. When I started I set my goal at 180 pounds, which is where I was when I got married. I figured if I could make it to that goal, I could re-evaluate at that time. Well I hope to meet it by the end of September. I am not sure what my final realistic goal should be. My doctor pulled out her little chart and told me that my goal should be 137 pounds. I laughed outloud. I can't ever remember being 137 pounds. I have a large frame and I think I would look too thin at that weight. So now I'm thinking around 150. Let me walk before I run. I need to hit the 180 first.
Hope to hear from the rest of the group soon. Keep up the good work!
I decided to start Calorie Count in order to lose weight to help control my hypertension and also high cholesteral. I started in April and have lost 6 pounds and I am 56 yrs. old. I know that's not much but have lost 16 pounds this past year. I have been dealing with my blood pressure for the last 15 years. I am now taking 3 different prescriptions for my blood pressure and it seems to be helping. I'm hoping with a good weight loss I can do away with some of this medicine. Unfortunately, my family has a history of this and are all on medication, so I may not be able to stop taking it even with a good weight loss. Now my cholesteral is a different story!! My doctor is having me take a low dose of medicine and then we will recheck next month. I don't want to keep adding more medicine to my daily regime.
Maybe we can share some information that will help each of us.
I have been obese all my life. I started having hypertension about 4 to 5 years ago. It reached a dangerous level about 3 months ago, and that's when I decided to exercise and watch what I eat.
Losing 18 lbs of weight is a nice side bonus to it. Now, I am hoping to lose another 34 lbs get to 106 lbs for a healthy range weight.
I have been following the DASH diets for close to 2 months now with good result. My bp now is down to prehypertension level, instead of level 2.
Hi all members on this H.B.P. Team.. I too have hypertension and I am trying to get off medications... So I love this site... I have had high blood pressure for three or four years now. My doctor told me to quit drinking, quit using salt, start excercising and lose weight. Two years ago I took the bull by the horns and joined a woman's health club after quitting my job. I lost over 30 pounds, dropped numerous clothing sizes, felt great, looked healthy and had my medication cut in half. Then I started working full time in a job that I love, the club closed and I injured my knee. The knee injury took over three months to heal and by that time I was on my way to gaining back all of my weight, my medication was doubled again and the low self esteem has returned. I just joined this site and I am hoping that with the support from this web site along with the curves workouts I will drop 30 pounds by Christmas and the other 30 by this time next year.
That in a nutshell is my story. Best of luck to everyone here and may we all see our numbers drop.
Hi everyone. Good news. I went to the doctor today and blood pressure was normal 120/80. Still taking a pill every morning and she said I could take it every other day. I've lost 33 pounds and am now at 193, the lowest I've been in ten years! Hooray! I am cheering for everyone on the site, you go wolvesfan! Thanks for the encouragement!
Hello everyone!!! I joined calorie-count a couple years ago when my employer was having a fitness challange. I did pretty well and lost 26 pounds, but pretty much quit the site after that was over. Now I am faced with a number of health issues at age 35 and I need to get fit, and so far this site has everything I need to keep track of my daily eating and exercise habits. I was diagnosed with stage 4 hypertension last November and just last weekend got test results back indication I have Coronary Artery Disease. All though it is inherited, I am hopeful I can change this around and be healthy again. Plus....I would like to see my grandbabies be born...Thats about it. ![]()
Hey everyone! I joined CC about a week ago. I started counting calories for myself and found this site and thought it would be alot easier to do it here. I have been a athlete for the most part of my life so weight hasn't really been a problem, however as the years pass by it had gotten harder to keep it off. I am 5'11 and weigh 210 pounds; many people tell me that I don't need to loose weight but I know better. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure a year ago, and my doctor said that I needed to lose some weight. So here I am looking for a solution to help me drop the pounds. Let's get busy, we can do this!
I weigh - in every Friday come heck or high water.
Down to 241, dropped from 244. Like taking a hike through two foot of snow up hill heading home to have a piece of blackberry cobbler with icecream. Hard work but worth it in the end. ![]()
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this.....I've had high blood pressure sense April of this year and take medicine for it.....and need to loose some weight, hoping that it will help and I'll be able to stop with the medicine. I've had headaches and swelling and sometimes trouble breathing.....was healthy until my yearly check up and they put me on medicine....so I thought, they are working to find one that I don't have side affects to. But I need help in trying to eat right with no salt....everything I see is high in salt. How much salt can someone with high blood pressure take in, in a day. There's so much salt that is hidden. I've been so sick....that I would just rather not eat but my husband won't let me. So we're learning together and we could use all the help we can get. Now I've been married for 27 years and I'm a factory worker and work 12 hour shifts and worked there for 13 years. I have 4 kids and 3 grandkids. And I really don't have anymore stress than the next person or anymore than normally so that can't be the reason for HBP. I weigh 190 lbs., and I'm 5'1" tall and the charts say I should weigh 123 lbs. I don't know if I really want to lose that much but I would like to lose about 50 lbs right now......... in todays time everything cost so much to eat right (example- white rice is about .............50 cents and brown rice which is suppost to be good for you, cost about $2.00 give or take.) So if anyone can help with the HBP diet and a way to keep cost down as much as possible it would be greatly appreciated.................Also, would love to get some recipes.......mamataz122@yahoo.com........... ....thanks in advance.
Weigh in on Friday. Everything seems to be going great. Gave blood for Red Cross Blood drive, BP112 / 76. They took it three times because I could no believe how low it has gotten.
Hi, I joined this group today. I have a history of hypertension and high blood pressure, so I thought this would be a helpful group. I just recently started tracking what I eat on Calorie Counter. It is very helpful. I also like that it is free.
I've dieted off & on for my whole lifetime. I'm 57 yrs old now & keeping the weight off just gets harder. I've been everywhere from size 22 to size 8. (I liked size 8 a whole lot better). Right now I'm a size 14, so I've got to get back down to that 8.
I will be reading a lot of these posts & you will see me post every now & then.

I have been with CC since June '07 and it really helped me lose 30 pounds. I got down to 121.5 at one point but in March I reached my goal and went on maintenance. In May '08, I had a hysterectomy and since then, I've gained 12 pounds or so and am at 133. I strayed from CC but now I'm back and OFF maintenance (I can't trust myself with that).
The reason I'm here is that I've started having some BP issues for the first time in my life. I don't know if it's my age (51) or because I had a hysterectomy. I've read that that can trigger BP problems. I recently saw the doc about it and got a prescrip for a diuretic. It's helping, I think.
I have been married 32 years, have 2 grown sons (1 married) and a daughter in college but living at home for now. I am a guidance counselor at a private boarding school and I love my job. I wish I was more active and liked to work out...I'm not a couch potato but I'm not a marathon runner, either.
So here I am...hope losing the extra weight will help with the BP issues and that I'll feel better all around. God bless!
Hello
I am a new member. I am 35 yrs old and diagnosed with high BP.
I am on medication right now. I am 5'8 and weigh around 175.
Need to get it down to 145. I don't get enough time to exercise. Have a 4 hour commute. I am not over weight but the belly is pulling me down! I was kind of depressed over the whole Hypertension stuff. Thought these things will come only when you hit 50.
Anyway, I am on pills. I need to get off the medication. Hopefully, a balanced diet will help me rid of these BP problems.
Good luck to everyone. I am not monitoring my BP at all. Does anyone have a suggestion on BP monitors?
Thanks

thank you for welcoming me! i have recently lost 42 pounds and am slim now, my ideal weight. after losing the weight, i found out i had high BP. so it wasn't from the weight. and i quit smoking, still had high BP. my doc monitored it for several months even did an ultrasound on my kidneys, no reason for high BP i just have it. maybe from stress? i am now on meds and my BP is fine, due to the meds but i'd rather not be on them. i gained a few pounds back over the holidays and no diet works for me except simply counting calories. i try to stick to an all fruit all veggie diet as much as i can. never liked fruit but love it now. i also work out at the gym, work 2 jobs. i'm 40 yrs old and starting to feel it but i try to stay as young as my mind is!
would like to learn more about High BP and why i have it, my doc doesn't know.
i'm 5 foot 8 3/4" weigh 135, my highest was 168 then we started "biggest loser" at work and i'm competitive so joined it. i didnt win but lost a lot of weight! and its been 2 1/2 yrs now and i still work out at the gym religously. cant imagine NOT working out. and i drink tons of water. that has helped. theres also an appetite suppressant you can get at walmart called Dex-C20 and that really does work for me, i dont get the munchies.
please share w/me your BP stories i really need a support group, no one else i know has it thats around my age.
Hi There,
I am 26 yr old female Candadian, living in the UK and have suffered what is known as the 'Heathrow Injection' - having come over 4 years ago weight 135lbs, and now weigh 165lbs. Typical reasons - no excercise and eating and drinking (!) way too much. I have had high bloodpressure since I was 16 (and weight 120lbs) but went undiagnosed (dismissed as white coat syndrome).
In Jan 07 I was formally diagnosed with hypertension (scary for a 26 yr old!); at worst my readings were 150/110. Now on medication, average 130/87.
Still carting around an extra 30lbs tho, not very clever! So happy i found this site, seems i am an 'overeater' which keeping a food diary will help with. I want to start a family towards the end of 2009, so i want to get the weight off and get as fit and healthy to carry our baby.
I lost 10lbs in 14 days in July 2007 on the south beach diet; but it was for a wedding, and although i looked great in the photos, i soon went back to my old ways. Really looking for a lifestyle change now; my husband, who is naturally slim, has agreed to support me and eat well and go for evening walks.
Typically i work in a stressful job (banking), am sedentary for the whole day, and have a lot of client lunches which i really loved but now loathe due to the calories involved (food and booze!)
Really looking forward to using this site, charting my progress and maybe making some support buddies online!
cheers
hi there, im 43 female from california with 9 kids. after my 7th and stoped smoking i my blood pressure starting getting higher oh also im about 100 lbs over weight. My goal is to start losing this weight and i know its not gonna happen overnight. Thanks for accepting me in your group. love, simone renee
I am so happy I found this group.
I am a 49 yr old mother of 2 college age boys. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in Sept. 2007. At that time it was 150/120. Right now with medication the top number is normal but the bottom number is in the 80's. Since there is so much high blood pressure in my family, I accepted the fact that I will always be on medication, but I don't want to be on anything stronger.
Currently, I am 147 pounds (5 ft 0 in tall), and hope to get my weight in the 120's again. I am afraid it is going to take forever, because weight lost for me is so slow. Since Sept 2007 I lost 16 pounds. But since the summer I gained a couple instead of losing. My doctor's only advice is to do cardio and cut down on carbs. He even wanted me to eliminate the banana from my morning breakfast. I thought the potassium in the banana was good for BP.
My news years resolution was to start losing weight again. I started writing down everything I eat. I think my main problem is portion control. I also started pushing myself more doing cardio. I used to keep my heart rate under 80 percent of max. Now that my blood pressure is better, I am pushing it to 85 percent. I also want to add some execercises to strengthen my muscles. & nbsp;
my name is Jason. I am 42 years old, about 6'1" and recentlly weighed myself at 184 pounds. Being overweight was never a real problem. My HBP is more or less related to family history and I am taking medication. I did lose about 25 pounds since I was first diagnosed and have increased my exercise intensity levels and use calorie count.com faithfully. My goal is to finally rid myself of these meds I'm taking and look at some alternatives. anyone have any ideas?
Jason
