Hi! I’m Valerie! I started this journey in April, but have somewhat gotten off track due to a very stressful and busy last semester of school! I graduated in December and I am ready to make a serious commitment to looking and feeling better! Since the New Year I gave up soda, and started hitting the gym at least 4 times a week! I have been successful in both of these things so far! I also take the stairs to the 4th floor of our office building from the first floor at least 6 times a day! There are 88 stairs!! I try to walk at lunch 3 times a day as well. I want to make working out and fitness a hobby of mine, not just another fad!!! I would love any tips, advice and encouragement to keep going! And I will offer the same to you guys!  Have a great Monday!!

Hi my name is Heather I am a mom, infantry wife and an american solider so you would think I should be small but weight is something I have sturggled with since my I was younger although I am the smallest in the family is not a big accomplishment my weight fluctates alot. Hi everyone i just found out about this site and so far so good. I am 28 year old mom of an almost 4 year old and although she keeps me busy I feel lazy. I go to a gym near me but my biggest problem is finding the motivation to go. I continue to make excuses for not going. I need to find that motivation. Once I am there I enjoy it but getting there is the problem.

In high school I used to have a great body, a size 5 and 135 pounds. I went up and down thru out the years depending on status. It seems while on a relationship I gain weight but while single I loose tremendous weight. It still holds true I had been strugling between 167-164 for like 3 years now but my husband and I went thru some separation and I went down to 152 pounds. Unfortunetly I love my husband and I am an not going to leave him just because I want to be thinner. LOL. Anyways I guess what I am trying to say is that I need to find that thing where I can balance both.

Calorie counting is easiest for me when i do it online. I cannot follow weight watchers or any other diet unless I am tracking it online. I am not good with paper and pen. I am more aware of what I eat when I log in my calories but it still doesn't stop me from eating those oreos. LOL.

For the most part I am health conscience and choose the healthiest over the junk but when that time of the month comes I eat for a whole a month and I sabotage all of my efforts and so I feel like everything is lost.

Anyone that has had any sucess with a certain method or other please share the info.

Hi! I'm Kristy.

1. I've ALWAYS struggled with my weight, since elementary school. I lose weight but fail to keep it off.

2. Just joined today!

3. My husband is 6'2" and 160. He eats and drinks JUNK all day long. I am 5'2" and 190. He wants me to lose weight (as do I!!), but he doesn't understand why I can't just sit back and watch him eat 3 cookies and a couple peanut butter cups after downing a few slices of pizza and a Coke. He complains when I make healthy food and insists on having his junk food around the house. We've been married for 8 years and I've put on 70 lbs (not including pregnancy weights!). I've lost 20 so far and am at my pre-1st-pregnancy weight. I love my husband dearly and we get along very well, I just don't think he understands me on this particular issue. I'd love to hear from some other people who may be in this same predicament!

4. I LOVE to cook and bake. I love trying (cooking AND tasting) new recipes. I just have trouble stopping myself.

hey all, my name is jess.

1. I had a baby when I was 18 and I gained 50 pounds. I have NEVER been within 30 of my prebaby wieght. In fact, I have just steadily, but slowly, grown since then. The last time I felt good was about 5 or 6 years ago. I was a single mom, living at the bottom of a huge hill. I climbed that hill every day. It was about a 45 minute walk round trip. Since then I have gotten married and started law school. I barely have time to sleep/eat - and so I don't make time to walk 45 minutes like I used to.

2. Two women at school have had great success with this site. I thought the married group might be helpful too. My husband wieghs the same 135 that he did in high school (we're 32!). He has never implied that I should lose wieght, and I appreciate that. However, I know I do, and that's what matters.

3. I have a very high stress lifestyle right now (I know everyone probably does). I am graduating from law school in May, relocating my family again, studying to take the bar in July, and praying for a job in this horrible economy. Things I like to do to de-stress: play guitar, write, read, meditate, walk.

Hello everyone! I'm Michele and I am 38. I've been generally overweight my entire adult life with a few good months/years in between. For a while now (last almost 4 years) I have been gaining weight steadily and I'm at my heaviest now. I want to be healthy...but I don't do anything to make sure I am. I take care of everyone else first. Also, I want to be a good role model for my kids. Today is my first day on Calorie Count...I found it yesterday online. I tried to restrict calories today but I went over and I'm kind of hungry right now....I won't give up though. I think I've had the mindset of on or off when it comes to diet, but after reading stuff on this site I see that it is an everyday thing. I'm going to go do some exercise in a few....which I haven't done regularly in a while. I'm hoping that I can find a support group here because I think that will make the difference this time. I don't have many interests outside of work and family, but I think I'm going to start taking more interest in myself at least as far as my health goes. Thanks for listening!

Hello!

I just joined Calorie Count because I am desperate to get in shape for the summer! I got married about two years ago and we have moved several times in that time period. We finally settled down and bought a home, so now it is time to focus on me!

My husband and I were both college athletes, and we were  able to eat eat eat, because we burned it all off. After we both finished with athletics, we continued to eat like we always had. We each gained between 20 to 30 pounds. Since then, every spring we get really motivated when new spring clothes come out, and bathing suit weather approaches, and we lose about 10 pounds, but every fall and winter we pack more on. It is a cycle. And we enable each other to eat poorly, and be lazy. It's hard to imagine and understand how two people who worked out for hours everyday pretty much our entire lives can so quickly become lazy, out of shape and overweight. We are in our mid twenties and are ashamed to wear bathing suits, it is so frustrating!

My goal is to go into this whole heartedly. My husband and I made a New Year's resolution to lose weight. Since then, he has lost 10 pounds and I have gained two! I have a slew of excuses, the big one being I commute 100 miles a day in the worst of Dallas traffic and really don't want to move once I get home. That is going to have to change and so are my eating habits. I have a chocolate labrador that is 4 and a little chunky as well so I plan getting her active too. Any advice on how to over come the "enabling" we do for each other is welcome!

Hi! I just joined Calorie Count. I came across it while I was looking for the amount of calories I was consuming every day. I'm 27, married, have two children (4 and 18 months) and I work full time.

Just after New Years (5th January) I gave up on the cigarettes, yay! And joined my friends gym. I try to go to combat class most Wednesday nights, and just last week started to walk our choco lab Jack (who is 8 months and a bit wirey!), each night. As we live on a hill, I get to push myself when I walk him, but because of the weather, and it still being dark when I get home from work, I find it hard to motivate myself. Plus I hate the thought of not being able to put my girls to bed each night.

I never really lost my baby weight after my first pregnancy (I gained 4 stone) but the day after my second daughter was born, I only had 5 lbs of my baby weight left (I gained 18 lbs!)

I want to lose the weight because I'm sick of being stuck in the same size clothes I have been for the past few years, and have recently bought myself a beautiful expensive dress which I planned to wear for my husbands birthday. Smile Unfortunately, I don't think I will have lost as many inches as it will take to fit into it! Frown

I've recently gone from a size 16 to a 14, but still weigh the same. I know this is because muscle weighs more than fat, but it would be nice to see the difference on the scales too Frown

Hi,

I gained a lot of weight after college and started losing it when I got a personal trainer and joined jenny. When I got married I gave all of that up and gained it all back!  I'm currently a size 12! I want to try to lose weight again with the help of CC.  I'm new to CC, so I need some help.  I joined CC so I could maybe lose 50 pounds.

I'm a UC graduate and I'm going to school again for CLS.  I got married in Nov. of 2008. I have one dog.  I use to love playing tennis, but  have not played in years.

I would love to become more active again and find support, while also giving others support.

Hello everyone!

My name is Stephanie.  I'm 31 years old.  I have been married for almost four years, and my husband and I are still very much in love.  He is the love of my life!  We live in Texas and have no kids yet, but we do have four cats. I joined this group because it was suggested to me, and since I'm married I thought maybe I would have something in common with everyone else in it.

I have had fairly active jobs all of my life, and I guess I have a fast metabolism, because I had only gained about 10 pounds since high school and have always eaten pretty much whatever I wanted.  About five months ago, I started going to school again and began a new job.  At this new job I sit in a chair and use a microscope all night (it's third shift).  I used to be an animal control officer, which burned plenty of calories with all the exercise I was getting.  Not anymore, and I have gained about 15 pounds in the past few months.  I'm not a very tall person, so that is pretty noticeable on me!

I just want to develop better eating habits and adjust my exercise and food intake so that I can get that 15 pounds off.  My husband is totally supportive, even though he says he likes my butt big, haha.  I joined this website two days ago, and already realize many of my mistakes involved too much fast food, too much cereal (I love me a huge bowl of cereal!), and no physical activity.

The website recommends that my colorie intake be 1200 per day.  I changed it to 1400 because I was eating almost 2500 before, so 1400 should allow me to get the nutrition I need and not starve myself.  Plus my doctor recommended I eat a little more than 1200 calories.

Oh yeah, I'm also a smoker who is trying very hard to quit.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

My name is Jaimie, I am 25 years old.  I have been married for a little over two years, and we've both decided it's time to get fit!  My husband just got out of the military three months ago, and in that time we have BOTH put on weight now that we've moved back to New York where all of the wonderful food is!

Weight was not much of an issue for most of my life.  As a child and all the way through my late teens I was extremely active.  I played sports all year round and then after graduating high school I was working as a waitress and then in retail which required a lot of hustling a bustling around.  In my spare time I would go out dancing (at least three night a week) with my best friend which also helped keep me fit.  It wasn't until I got my first 'real job' shortly after I turned 21 that I began to gain weight.  Not as many late nights at the club and sitting at a desk for 40+ hours a week was not a good thing for me...

So now four years later I am not extremely overweight, but am a good 40 lbs over what I'd like to be - so my husband and I have hatched a plan to lose it!  I am happy to find a detailed tracker to keep pace of my eating & activities; as this is the first time I've ever dieted before and I am the kind of person that needs to see something in writing, having that information (as scary as it is) right on my screen will help.  So now...the plan...

Portion control - this is where my weakness is.  I love to cook, and I do it quite often!  I we also adopted a dog last year, so I plan on walking him a lot more, as opposed to just letting him out in the yard to do his business.  We've also invested in...dun dun dun...ROLLERBLADES!

So wish me luck!

Best regards,

Jaimie

Hi Everyone. My name is Fiona. I lived in vegas for about 6 years now. I moved here in 2003 for college. Before I use to live in Maui, Hawaii and use to be very active. Did a lot of sports and what not but now i dont do much of anything now. I arrived in Vegas weighing about 130-140 lbs. Instead of gaining the "freshmen 15" I gained about 30 lbs. Then I started working out almost everyday and eating better. I went back down to about 145 but then I met my husband..... oh the weight sky rocketed again with all the fine dinning and eating out. So then I tried to lose weight again on and off the last 4 years. Couple pounds here couple pounds there. Then when we got engaged oct. 2007 then I started working out again to lose the weight for the wedding in oct. 2008. At first it was a slow start but i guess maybe around May 2008 i kicked it into high gear. I went from a size 16 to a 12. But working out everyday (boot camp and cardio kickboxing every weekday) I got burnt out so after the wedding I vegged out. So now I am here again trying to lose weight but more for feeling better and looking better in my clothing. Imonly about 5 feet tall and have a small to medium frame and being 165 lbs is not good for my size. I would like to get down to about 135-140 lbs again before my husband and I start a family. Also Im visiting my parents in June and I know im going to get heat by them "fiona you got fat.... fiona since you are married are you going to let your self go?"

My major issue for weight lost is my inlaws moved in with us about 2 years ago. I love them to death and very lucky to have them in my life. However, they are from the south and have "poor" eating habits. Everything I eat now is   and rich. Which im not complaining but its starting to add up. My father in law is starting a higher protein/lower carb diet so my mother in law is cooking more meats and veggies but then time to time she will make brownies.

Another issue im having is my work LOVES to eat and drink. We have office parties all the time. Every 2-3 months we have potlucks. They are GREAT and loads of fun! This past one we had we grilled burgers and chicken as the main course. Also someone is always bring food to the office and sometimes on fridays a bunch of us meets up at a bar/club for drinks.

But my over all issue is that I love to eat food. Vegas is a great city for the verity of food that is offered. My husband and I dont eat out much anymore but time to time we like to get away and just have a nice dinner just the two of us. We try to spilt meals and 80% we want the same things so it works.

I have a similar problem...an obsession with food! I cannot turn down a slice of cake in celebration of someone's birthday at work, nor a celebratory meal after good things happen. But what I have started doing is whenever I crave bad food, (I'm southern so anything fried) I go to the mall and try on clothes. My legs look terrible in shorts, and bathing suits are not even an option. If that is not an option, I try on jeans I have "grown" out of. I have jeans in sizes 4 to 14, and I keep them all in hopes I can one day get back into them. That usually nips the craving in the bud, and helps me make a healthier choice.

Hello everyone!

I am 24 years old, married to a great and supportive guy, and we have two cats and two boxer pups. One of my favorite ways to exercise is play with the pups, walk with them, etc. Of course they are still young so sometimes a walk is a lot more exercise for them than me!

I have a desk job, and have just kind of gradually added weight since graduating college, getting married, etc. My husband loves to be active and is in great shape, so that is a big motivator for me, but I tend to put off exercise whenever I can, even though I feel better when I do (crazy, I know!)

As far as eating, I know what the healthy choices are, but making them is the kicker. I am a sweet fanatic, I can never say no to some good ice cream, and I often crave sweets at night. I try to keep grapes, etc. in the house to help with the muching cravings.

My husband & I want to start having children this fall, and one of my main goals is to lose some weight so that my pregnancy will be easier on me. I am in a wedding in September, and generally just want to shape up and be more healthy for the summer.

Nice to meet everyone!
