Lifetime attempts to control my weight
1 year anniversary w/CC on 17 Aug
I am in my late forties

Would it be possible for the text heading of this group to be spelled properly?  It is "forty" something, not "fourty".  Please.

Haha, nice workaround, Igor! (40 Somethings).

Will be 49 in a month and a half. Yoyo dieter from away back; this time I'm aiming for the lifestyle change and so far it's working--only 30 lbs lost in one year (but only 5 lbs to go!Laughing), but my eating habits have changed a lot, and definitely for the better. I get lots of exercise naturally in the summer (gardening, biking, walking the dogs) but hate the cold winters and have trouble keeping my activity level up then--last winter I treadmilled while watching episodes of Rockford Files (and if you're in this group, you'll know that TV show!) and lost 10 lbs, thanks to James Garner.Wink

I've found I'm not very good at gabbing on the forums (so many people talking! Can't keep up, I guess), but I like communicating with fellow CCers through our Journals, if anyone else goes that route.

How do I flag this group so I can find it again???

If you go to your account page, all the groups you are a member of should show up in "carousel" format

Yup...thanks...found it when I left...Embarassed

Hi All!

1) I've always blown off the fact that I've been overweight for years and years.  Then I failed my yearly physical for the first time last June.  Bummer...bad HDL, LDL, etc.

2) I joined CC+ about a month ago to help me track my calories and share the ups and downs of weight loss.  Sorry about the pun.

3) I jumped at the chance to be 40 anything before I turn 50.

4) Dry sense of humor.  Jack of all trades at a small company.  Married with 5 kids that range from grade school to college.  I'm sure I'm just one step away for the Jerry Springer show.  My wife has a dog but I'm just taking care of it until it dies.  I've updated my journal with first weight loss failure (all of last month) and a real picture of what I look like.  So you don't have to guess ugly you will know it!

Hello!  My name is Tammy. I'm 43 yrs old, will be married for 13 yrs in Sept, I have 2 kiddos ( a daughter 21 and a son 15), and I'm disabled because of my back and leg pain from a back injury in '99.

I've always yo-yo'd throughout the years. I'd get to my goal and never knew how to maintain. I do now. :)

I joined cc when I was looking up sites for losing weight thru google. I'm so glad I found it. This place has helped me sooooo much!  :D  I love the support and the motivation I get from everyone.

I want to join this group so I can talk with other people my age who share the frustrations of trying to lose weight after 40!  It's so hard. :(

Hello! My name is Gabriela. I will be 45 soon, married with three stepsons out of home and two preteen daughters. I work and have a long commute, but I have a gym on-site that has helped me maintain my 5 day-routine of aerobic and weight training. I also like to walk and to bycicle,

I hate dieting so I don't do it often. I just try to watch my portions and have moved towards whole grains, olive oil, fish, etc but it seems that this is not enough because although I lost some 6 lbs at the beginning, then I stopped loosing and just stayed there. I am about 30 pounds overweight, but it seems like an impossible accomplishment because I dread feeling hungry, or loosing the foods that make me feel good.

Five years ago I joined LA Weight Loss and I did lose 30 lbs. But as soon as I did I stopped going and I gained the weight within a year. I still need to know how to maintain my weight once I accomplish the goal.

I think having support from others will help me by being accountable, and also when my emotions get in the way.

Hello, my name is Brenda.  I'm 42 with 2 boys at home.  I just recently discovered cc.  I have dieted for the last 15 yrs.  But, this time I have committed to exercise.  I walk on average 2-4 miles 5 times a week and have begun to add weights.

As the username implies: Kathy. 46 years old. Weight loss journey well-documented in bio and journal. Active participant in the public forums for no apparent reason, other than it seems to be an opiate of some sort for me.

Biggest Fear: Once I turn 50 am I going to have to leave the group, or should I just start lying about my age now? Wink

I'm 48.

I joined CC around a month ago and I think the site rocks.  I want to lose a total of 65 lbs and have lost 12.5 so far.

I work as a civil designer, so I sit at a computer all day drawing plans.

I've always had a weight problem.  I've successfully been at goal 3 times in my life.  Once before high school.  Twice using Weight Watchers and my plan is to keep it off this time.

I joined this group because hey I'm in my 40's. LOLLaughing

almost 45 (september), Danish living in the Netherlands (so sorry: don't know the tv-show you mention, magEmbarassed

been growing steadily after having had the kids (girls of 16 and almost 10), been yo-yoing a lot since then

was already working on a lifestyle change rather than a diet and happened to find CC - about 3 weeks ago. and would you believe it: it works Yell Lost 3 kilo's, need to lose 12-17 more (depends on how it feels and looks, we'll see). And I am going to make it this time!

Why am I here? Well, I work with teenagers (mental coach) and just enjoy talking to grown upsWink

My vote is, that once joined here, you're allowed to stay for lifeLaughing

Biggest Fear: Once I turn 50 am I going to have to leave the group, or should I just start lying about my age now?

Haha, I wondered the same thing, Kathy! Is it a sign of age that we start thinking so far ahead?! Maybe we could start a splinter group, the Post-40-Somethings, when the time comes.

And here I was wondering if the 50-somethings folks would take me in early...and I'd be in both groups (just looking ahead, LOL)

HI to ALL!!

Nice to meet everyone.  I enjoyed the posts and can RELATE!  My history with weight loss is an ALWAYS!  I'm 45 now and have had to always watch my weight.  during my 20s and 30s I had kept it pretty much in check around 5 - 10lbs but on 5"4' it shows and I don't like the constant worry about it.  I got married for the second time 7 years ago and I looked and felt great at 131.  I have a strong body so that weight worked for me.  So after MARRIAGE and turning 40 and alot of big personal life changes like having to sell our big beautiful home in CA and move to AZ to downsize I started to put on weight and my usual working out and eating right wasn't cutting it.  First I was hanging around 142 then I got to 150! and then... at the college (I'm finally finishing my AA degree and going into the nursing program here)we we're weighing ourselves for the nursing program and infront of a slim 21 year old I got on the scale and it said 156!!!! I went into shock/disbelief and embarassement.  So NOW I just finished doing the lemonade fast/cleanse(maple syrup, lemon, cayenne) for 10 days and lost 5lbs on that plus I had lost 5lbs previous so now I am at 146 which I want to keep off and get back down to 131.  I am really freaked out about gaining weight especially at my age IT IS A LOT HARDER!  You have to be deligent.  I'm just looking at it as a way of life now and I'm hoping to keep the momentum and structure of CC going as I believe it is a great tool which I have used on and off for the last year or so.  It's the consistency and I know that it's the DOING.  I'm also scared of losing my focus/energy as classes start again next week and I am going to start a new job in a couple of weeks.  That is the real challenge for me when I start getting over worked and stressed.  So back to the questions.  This group looks like a good fit for me as I'm 45! and the weight comes off a lot slower.  My goal is to lose a lb a week which is extremely slow but I am hoping it will be a life change to keep it off so I am focusing on the way I live not on the losing the weight part that seems to be less burdensome to me.  I have 2 pugs: Mercedes and Chevy, 1 German Shepherd: Talus, one adopted stray black cat: Notte (night in Italian) 1 husband and 1 daughter 17!! SENIOR I am a very proud mom! :)  Thanks for listening!  I'm looking forward to more great conversations!  LET'S STAY MOTIVATED!!

Hi, I am 47, married, 3 kids:9, 14, 19.  I have been fighting weight since age 10.  Some successes, the most recent in 2000-01 when I lost 54 pounds.  By this July, I realized that I had gained all but 10 lbs back.  I started a new 12 month job on August 1st.  (I was on a teacher schedule before this month.)  I decided this big change might be a good time for a mid year's resolution.  I have lost 10 lbs since August 1st and I feel great!

I have always walked 2.5 miles every morning, but this month I added free weights every other day and 35 minutes of lap swimming 3-4 nights a week.  I am very nervous for when I will lose my pool access; it is outdoor and closes after Labor Day.  I am looking into gym membership or actually using the treadmill and recumbant bike that is in my basement. Embarassed Either way, I need to keep up the exercise.

This is the first time that I have ever used an online calorie logging site.  I like it so much better than writing it all down and trying to look up nutritional information in a book.  I have not been able to find values for all restaurant foods though; anyone have a good site for that?  Also struggling with accounting for all ingredients in a salad whether made at home or ordered out.  I just can't get into measuring every little thing so I just pad the calories.  My husband is already sick of my talking about labels and logging calories, though he is generally very supportive.

Sorry, this is getting long.  My goal is not to let this great start in August fade away as I move into month 2 in September!

Hi!

Another on line group posted about this site so here I am.  I am a 41 yo mother to a 4yo and 2yo.  Gained a lot of weight with the second that I cannot lose this time.  I have always struggled with weight.  Did my best with Covert Bailey Fit or Fat but literally worked out at least 2 hours everyday.  That was before kids and hubby.

I have started walking 10K each weekend, but have noticed that my knees are starting to kill me...don't blame them for the weight they have to move.

I work full time as an RN so I would like to practice what I preach.  I would love to lose 75lbs and get back to the size I was when I got married 10 years ago.  I was a size 7 then!

Guess I'll see what I think of the site.  Nice chatting with you and ps....in case you haven't already figured it out...(THE 40s SUCK!...don't worry I'll save the rest of that rant for my other group:-))

How the heck do you start a new thread on this site...am I blind or just blonde  :-)  Does anyone else think the suggested BMI is incredibly low for our age?  Should be 25-28ish.

To start a new thread just click on the red "New Topic" button -- but you have to be in a Forum -- not a thread  (right now, the Forums in this group are: Introduce yourself, and Balanced Life Strategies -- if you want new/different ones, just ask).

Thanks!  I'll look around a bit more and see if I can get to the forums:-)

Hi Bravenous! You know you could have written my life story with weight loss there. I found a book mentioned somewhere online (here?) called something like "The Beck Diet Solution". Not sure if you're into reading or not. I have to admit, I didn't follow her plan to the letter, but rather got started on it and read the entire book. I guess the thing that struck a cord for me was rather than dieting, I had to create a lifestyle change in the way I was eating. So far it's working for me and maybe there were other changes in my life at the same time, but the biggest thing was I was doing it for ME this time! Something I think we all struggle with.

Anyways, enough about me for now (lol). I know you'll figure out what works for YOU.

And nice to find a 40's group! I'll qualify for only a couple more years but hey-going to enjoy them!
