And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hello,
I am new to the cc group and am looking for support. I am 39 years old, a mother of 6, From age 14 to 3,wife to a wonderful man and currently have no pets. I started a weight loss program about 1 year ago. My husband and I started a 1500 calorie diet and we track our daily diet on personalized spreadsheets. By the end of last summer, August 2008, I had went in 8 months from 205 lbs to 168 lbs. I am 5'8 and was a size 18 when I started and am now down to a size 12. We moved at the end of August and I lost my community pool. I had been swimming to lose weight. I had started in January and by the end of August was swimming a mile a day. After we moved, I felt out of place in our new home, community, church....everything........so I turned to the one thing that everyone says I am good at.......baking....and cooking. With a family of eight, we don't go out much, so I make everything. Needless to say....alot of stress, and many hours of baking later...I am now up to 180 lbs and everything is tight on me. I am back to the 1500 calorie diet that went out the window and am trying to find time and energy to exercise. I just want to fit into my new clothes before my trip to Ireland. 20 lbs to go and I will be ecstatic!
Any Help with good suggestions on exercise programs at home would be helpful! I am also one who tends to lose weight if challenged, so anyone who is willing or up to a challenge in order to support each other, just send me an email. Have a great day!
Hi Everyone: I am new to CC, but not new to dieting. My brother probably described my disordered eating the best, when I was in college... "Nance, you don't eat often, but when you do...Watch out for hands and feet!!!-- You eat everything in your path!" That was about 25 years ago, and I really haven't changed...
I joined because it is time for me to be more healthy. I do feel better when I eat healthy foods and exercise. So why don't I just do it? Because I love baking, and feeding treats to others around me.... (time for healthier recipes!) I am also hoping that by blogging I will get rid of some of the negative "self-speak" that is running through my head... ("You look like a tank," "I can't believe that you are such a pig", and other atrocious things I would never say to anyone but myself...)
I am 46, 5'8", and about 2 sizes larger than I would like to be. I'm a mother of two college students, and I have been married to a wonderful guy for 22 years. I work as an oncology nurse, and I truly love my job. Lost my bassett hound last August; not ready to welcome another pup yet, but love to borrow friend's dogs for a nice walk :)
Hi, my name is Joni. I am 5' 5.5" and Sunday weighed 193 lbs. I am 51 years old. When I was young (until about 30) I was always very thing. Very thin. I guess I had a very high metabolism. Well that all changed. At 37 I had a child and never really lost the weight. Actually I weigh the same now as when I was 9 mos. pregnant. I've gone on weight watchers about 3 times and each time it works less and less and I always gain the weight back. I'm sick of spending the money. I'm going to try to count calories and to get the "right kind" of fat like nuts and olive oil, etc. Problem is...I don't like fish, although I ate some the other day and loved it. It was Salmon at a tasting for my daughters wedding reception. Maybe my taste buds are changing. I even ate instant oatmeal yesterday morning. Yuk. I'll get used to it. I am working out again, though. I used to be a weight lifter, not a body builder, just strength training. I'm starting again now. Also I can't do what I used to, I keep getting hurt. ARGH!
I read a book called "The Flat Belly Diet". It sounded good, but the diet was just too weird. I'd have to drive about 30 min. to get the specialty foods. So I've decided to modify that diet to fit my life.
I intend to eat 1400 - 1600 calories each day and add a "good fat" to each meal (having to add those calories into the 1400-1600 daily calories). I've also cut out all soda, etc. I only drank diet, but now I'm onto WATER. I still drink a cup or 2 of coffee in the a.m. too. I'm going to try to remember to drink green tea before diner each evening, too. Portion control is what I need to learn and to live with for ALWAYS.
I feel guilty not making the meals that everyone else loves to eat. Since I am semi-retired, I have learned to cook. But they will all like more veggies and salads. I'm just not going to be making all of the breads, white rice and pastas or baked goods. OH WELL.
Of course since Sunday I have lost about 5 pounds, but that always happens at the beginning of a diet.
That's me in a nutshell!
My name is Sarah. I am 4' 11" and I weigh about 190 lbs. In July of 2007 I lost my first child, Asa during delivery. I had to have an emergency C-section and had a difficult recovery. I did lose the 35 lbs I had gained within a week but obviously my body shape was not the same. I started on weight watchers and was making headway when I found out I was pregnant again. I gave birth via a C-section to a healthy baby boy, Eli on July 14th, 2008. But I have only lost about 25 lbs and still have 10 to get back to my pre baby weight and according to my BMI I should be around 110 lbs. So that is my goal. I am an emotional eater and I am a graduate student who is a new mother so I eat a lot of things that are bad for me! I joined Calorie Counters because it was free and very similar to weight watchers. I go to the gym regularly or as regularly as my schedule allows. By August I would like to run a half marathon! So that is me!
I am 37 years old. I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old. I have always struggled with weight. I grew up in a family that ate very large portions. Before children I weighed 170, but I was healthy - running, swimming, etc. I now weigh 203. I have lost 30 lbs in the last two years since my last child, but have stayed around this weight for a bit - so decided to try something new.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on February 16th. I had a bilateral mastectomy a couple weeks ago. I don't need chemo or radiation, thankfully. I want to be healthy for my kids, my husband and myself. That means being cancer free and losing weight.
I can't exercise yet, I don't have a full range of motion in my arms and I am still recovering. I feel positive and motivated to do this.
hey Laurenkd...be kind to yourself; however, consider quitting drinking. Drinking is a triple threat to weight 1. empty calories 2. slows metabolism 3. you eat more when drinking. If quitting is hard you might have a problem. No shame in that just get help if u do. Best of luck to u on ur journey!
Thank you for that nice welcome.
Well my name is Honeynut35, I'm a single parent, and college student. I've begun walking 30 minutes a day, and counting calories. I also watch portion size. My question is am I doing enough?![]()
Hi..Honeynut35.. 30 mins a day of walking is just the start for one whom does want to lose weight.. I would say that you are on the right track for keeping your number of calories burn and consume and exercise as part of your way to lose weight.. Gone thru many forms of self dieting and I trully find that diet and exercise is the best bet.. Determination and self control is another so don't kick yourself if you give in to some carvings of yours as long as it's within a portion or you find that calories adds in on the double and takes forever to burn them off.. I have a walking friend at about.com walking forum whom walks 90 mins a day and doesn't lose any pounds but she did drop a dress size.. Her nurse told her that she walk too much and she was depressed.. All my fellow walkers said to ignore the nurse cause she is just plain jealous of her determination .. My fellow walker friend keep on walking and she find herself in better mood and has more energy to do everything.. If you have no walking friend try login into the forum and post in your walks.. It's fun and you would get addicted towards walking for every day you look forward to reading all walkers post and tell them about your walks.. If possible buy a pedometer, keep a walking journal and set a walking goal in terms of minutes or distance and weight in at least once a day/alternate day.. Check us out at 750 april walks, april 2009 minutes, april 2009 miles and showers or 10000+ club.. Hope to see you there..

Hi Everyone!!
I'm Ruggy13. A 23 year old Female. I just signed on today. I've always been athletic with sports but I haven't had much motivation to work out since Soccer and lacrosse have been done. Right now I'm 155 and cc.com gave me a goal of 136. I was a little confused about my daily calorie intake. It said 1600 but I feel like that is a lot for some one that is trying to lose weight! if someone could help me out, I'd love it!!
Thanks!
Hi All...
i'm ria and i joined last night. i have, however, been using the site for a couple of weeks now for counting calories and decided to join. This site is fabulous!
i just turned 35 and i'm 5'1" at 229 lbs. And while i am now and have always been FABULOUS, i am not getting any younger and realized that if i was going to get rid of the weight, now is the time to do it! i was at my heaviest weight of 247 lbs in October of 2008. i'm a nanny to four special needs kids ages 3,5,5,6. They keep me busy, not busy enough. i have got to start excercising!
As women, our bodies start to level off in our mid 30's, metabolism gets lower and things start shifting. i don't want to spend my golden years overweight. i have a wonderful Man in my life that loves me juicy, but is supportive in my wanting to lose weight.
I am new to this group and this site. I have been trying to lose weight on my own with no success. My SIL told me about this site last night. I am so excited to actually be able to know how to count my calories in and out.
Ok, a little about myself. I have been overweight almost all of my life. I was thin for about 5 years and it was through some very bad eating patterns.
I joined a "PRISM" group at our church for awhile and lost 33 lbs. Then the group broke up and I lost my support group. Then the weight came back on. I've tried WW but they are too expensive in this economy.
I just want to loose weight using no chemicals, fake sugars, fake fats, or additives. I want real whole foods and someone to help motivate me to keep at my goal.
I am fairly sedentary right now as a classroom teacher, but again...if I had a partner I would move. Anybody with some motivational pointers? I'd appreciate it. :)
As far as motivation, I am trying to reward myself for each 10 pounds that I lose. At 10 pounds I am getting a pedicure. At 20 pounds, I am going to sign up for the Boulder Boulder (a Colorado thing). At 30 pounds, I am treating myself and my hubby to a night in a nice hotel (hoping his parents will watch our kids). I haven't decided a reward for 40 (my goal). It's got to be big to get me motivated though.
Hi! Okay, I've always been a little overweight, particularly my teen years, but it was the 10 pounds max I needed to lose back then. I'm almost 29, 5'7 and 183 pounds. From about 1999-2005 I hovered between between 160 & 168 max. Then a couple years ago I went on a no-suppers & lots of exercise diet and lost 10 pounds in a month. Stress came and the 10 pounds plus 15 pounds reinforcements came back on rapidly. I'm at my highest I've ever been and am worried that I won't ever lose the weight, so I'm looking for all the ways I can lose, knowing that I need support and that it is a change of lifestyle.
I joined Calorie Count a year or two ago just to track my weight. Now I'm back trying to log my food, journal regularly, and keep track of exercise. It's fun! Did you know you burn calories dusting and watching TV? :P
Joined this group so I can be part of a community of others doing the same thing as me: losing weight for good!
I work at a small Christian college as a registrar and enjoy my job. My hobbies are cooking gourmet vegan food, reading, watching TV, shopping, and spending time with friends.
By the way, I'm realizing that if you are 80% vegan/20% vegetarian and trying to lose weight, it's very difficult to find a reasonable weight loss program that works for busy professionals!
Good luck to everyone else on here!
Seems like all my life but eventually something happens and up it goes again. I'm a 58 year old "empty nester" and you would think I wouldn't have to go through this again, but I guess it is a lifetime thing. I joined this site today when I was trying to get a calorie count. It looks like a very helpful way to count calories which I think will be more flexible than eliminating any "one" thing from my diet which always ends up making me feel deprived.
So here goes......![]()
Wecome to all the newcomers!
I hope that you all like this site as much as I do. It keeps me accountable. Good luck and take the time to get to know this site!
Hello Everyone.
I just discovered this site about 15 minutes ago. I have been on a rollercoaster with dieting. I swear ever since I hit 30 it has been a downward spiral!!!! I use to be a waitress and I was always on the go. I could eat anything I wanted and I stayed very thin...Well ever since I have been working in an office things have gone crazy. I had a son and only had about 6 more pounds to lose and then I started having bad panic attacks and had to be put on medication....Well needless to say the weight poured on like crazy!!!
I have started to exercise but nothing was happening so to my surprise I decided to get serious and start counting away!!!! I know it will be hard but I think with the right kind of support it can happen.
I have trouble with my weight. I gain and then have problems losing, i also get frustrated easily when I get at a plateau.
I have tried calorie counter before but got tired of putting things in so I quit. I think i did ok when i kept track. I have now joined a wellness womens group so thought i would use this site to help me keep track of my calories and activity level. I also have to keep track in a note book. Hopefully with their support and this site I will lose weight again and feel better.
Weight has always been an issue for me throughout my life (I'm 27 now), but I have never been serious about losing it until I actually lost some weight by accident when I started walking my new puppy daily. Once I lost the weight and became more active things were looking up.
I then met my now husband and gained it all back as we went out to eat often and I started eating what he eats (never good!).
I am now a member of Weight Watchers and have been on the program for a little over a year and 1/2. I have had alot of success with the program (I have lost 80 lbs). The past few months have been hard as I have tried to reach my goal weight.
My body does not seem to want to let go of the last few pounds. I have been exercising a few times a week and eating well within my points range. I am going to try to count calories for a while.
My goal weight is 149 lbs, and I am currently yo-yoing right around 156-157 lbs.
My current challenges are that I am not seeing results. I have changed my exercise routine a bit. I walk 45 minutes in the morning and do step aerobics two nights a week. I also try to get to the park after work and jog at least 3 nights a week. I did The Biggest Loser workout DVD for a while and it really boosted my weight loss, until my body got used to the activity and simply maintained my weight after that.
As far as food weaknesses go, I don't have too much of a problem with temptation because I have spent the last year and 1/2 forming healty habits. I just simply don't keep junk food or other tempting things in our home. If my husband wants a Reese's cup, he better eat it elsewhere! I crave healthier foods now, so that's good.
This is my first time doing calorie count or any sort of forum.
I joined this group as a means to get ideas about shedding those last few pounds and then maintaining my weight for a healthier life.
Interesting details about me...hmmm...I a newly wed and we have two awesomely hilarious cats. I am a full-time college student soon to graduate and I work full-time as an office manager. My weight loss journey would not have been possible if it weren't for my husband's support and my weight loss partner--my mom! She's lost over 85 pounds! She motivates me daily and is my exercise buddy.
Mrytle918,
Welcome! You must be so proud! You and your mom! I can't wait until my problem is those last few pounds. Saying that....I hear that is a BEAR! You seem to be doing everything I've hear that you should do. Changing routines, etc. I am losing 1 to 1.5 pounds per week. And honestly, I need a whole year to change my eating habits, too. When I go out with girlfriends for diner - who are now thrilled I will eat fish--the rest of my family goes out for fast food or pizza. My husband is being much more supportive this time. AND, I plan on getting a face lift when I reach goal! He doesn't know that yet. :-)
On the go andin the know.
