Hi everyone, I have been with CC about a year now. I found the site one night when I was looking for carb information for food. I had been rrecently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and need to learn about what foods contained what carbs. After a few weeks I started using the site to log my food intake (was doing it manually before) and haven't look back. I reached my goal in December 07 and still use this site to work on maintenance. This is the first time in my life that I have been able to maintain the same weight for more than 6 months. Along my journey I have also met and talked to many great people on CC.
I am an avid runner training for a full marathon in October.
How about you? How did you end up here?
I am a type 2 diabetic who has been on this for a while now. I have had a horrible time managing this thing and have all the intention in the world of getting this better.
My plan is to eat better, train better, feel better. Now if i could only find that darn instruction manual....
there will be more to come, as it will take a while for me to truly open up...................
hey guys new to this site. I strated my journey at 245.0 lb and then went down to 205.0 lb. lost most of it through weight watchers but then I stopped for the summer so I could play Golf. I currently wiegh 210. lb but will be attending WW again in a couple of weeks.
for me the hardest part is the eating I train every day but still find it difficult to eat right.
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 8 years ago. I was having a hard time trying to control it. I came across this web site July 2008. I am hoping this will help me to control my sugar and weight. I weighed 250 when I started, I am currently weighing 216. My Dr. wants me to weigh 160. We shall see?
I joined this group because it seemed that the other groups were mostly women. I feel more comfortable with men.
Not much interesting details. I work in a snack food manufacturing plant. A good place for a diabetic, huh? I have 4 sons and two grandchildren. My youngest two are in the military. One is in the Army, and my youngest (who just turned 18) joined the Marines. I have a wonderful wife. She has put up with me for 34 years.
Hi guys
I live in the UK and found this site through reading the New York Times on line. I have a brother in Houston and enjoy keeping up with things Stateside.
I am one of four brothers and we all battle with our weight - its in the genes. We are all on medication for high blood pressure too. I had colon cancer 18 months ago, caught it early and had keyhole surgery to remove it (and 8 inches of intestine!) I am really thinking about what I eat much more carefully and this site has given me the tools to bring my weight down by 20 lbs, as of today. Just 6 more to go to my goal (157lbs). I will be back to what I weighed when I left college 32 years ago. Trouble is that I clearly am not going to be the same shape! I need to go to the gym but its too expensive.
So this will be my next goal. I am getting fitter through walking everywhere. Take the car to the supermarket for the big shop once a week but try to walk briskly every day for about an hour. So far that has worked for weight loss. Now I have to devise a way of toning up cheaply.
I was married for 10 years, divorced, no kids and have lived with my wonderful partner for 23 years. Spend most time renovating this big old Edwardian house and out on my motorbike. Taught art for 22 years, inspected schools for four years, now sort of retired. Glad to meet you all.
Hello Everyone!
First of, I just wanna let artytim know that I absolutely love the UK, and once I am out of college hope to start my career, or at least continue my career, in England. With that said, I am in my third year of college, and I am actually one of the few people who is trying to gain weight here. (6 feet, 145 lbs.) Me and my dad are both exercising, he is trying to lose weight and I'm trying to gain it. He is a professional athlete and he's done both things, and he says both are just as hard. CC really helps me count how many calories a day I need to consume to maintain my 145 lbs and eventually reach my goal of 160 lbs.
I have been 145 for about a month now and have a hard time making it to the 150 mark, if you guys have any suggestions (no supplements please, I like the natural way) then PLEASE post it here as I am eager to reach my goal.
I love playing ice hockey, soccer, basketball and I love snowboarding. Being a student I spend most of my time studying, reading, if not that than working or playing ice hockey and of course spending time with my gf :)
Really nice to meet all of you guys!
Hey everyone,
I've been on Calorie Count for almost two days now, so not that long. I heard about the site from my mom who uses it, but the reason I am here is to be able to keep track of all that nutritional information to try and maintain my weight or maybe gain a few good pounds. I am 6'4" and I weigh around 170. I'm walking at 4 mph each day for three miles before biking for 15 min. Next week I'm gonna start running for two minutes then walking for three and repeating five times. I'm kind of curious how to be able to get up to at least 185 without those 15 pounds being fat. I know I should probably be weight training, but I have no idea how to get started or anything. Right now, I'm just doing what I know, the walking and the biking. If anyone can help with the weight training, I would be extremely grateful.

Hi Alexander,
I am in no way a pro, but I did manage to gain a solid 7 lbs (not eating any fast food or anything with huge amounts of fats) in my first month and a half. I worked out three times a week, about 60-90 minutes of heavy lifting and explosive exercises such as squats and bench-press. Also, a friend of mine (body builder) said to make sure to do a lot of Dips, Pull-ups, bench press, push up, squats and dead lifts in your first 2 or 3 months. This way you will gain the most weight and shock your body into growing.
On a side note, protein shakes are EXTREMELY helpful for gaining weight. I get about 6-700 calories per shake that I take 2-3 times a day. I did take Creatine and N.O. Xplode for a month but that didn't give me much more than stomach problems and headaches. I must say though with creatine I did weigh a little more due to the water retention. With that said, if people tell you to use supplements, do your research and get samples. It's not bad to try things for a month or two, but it is not a good idea to regularly take supplements as your body will react really badly once you come off of them and start trying to exercise and eat normal food.
Hope that helps!

hey, thanks alot, what kind of shakes do you take, btw? and thanks for the tips about the pushups and all that, i appreciate it...
I have tried MANY different brands for Whey Protein (MASS-TECH, ISOPURE, CHAMPION, etc.) and I must say the brand Champion Nutrition is the best. First of all, it tastes good (I've only had the strawberry and vanilla, yet to try the chocolate) and it also doesn't give me any stomach upsets or any side effects. The recommended serving size is 4 scoops which will give you 920 calories with milk and 620 with water. I do about 3 scoops( so that's actually about 500 calories a shake) about 2-3 times a day.
With all that said, try Champion Nutrition, Heavyweight Gainer 900. I did hear good things about True-Mass made by BSN (same company that makes N.O. Xplode). You can go to your nearest Vitamin Shop and ask for samples of both of those before you invest $40-50 into this, or maybe you can actually get samples on-line. But honestly, you can't go wrong with the Champion Nutrition one.
Cheers,
Demitry
I also forgot to mention the fact that you shouldn't have the shakes with milk when you are starting out. The recommended amount of milk along with the protein will be hard to consume and it will feel weird in your stomach.
Also, Alexander, write out a workout plan.. What you will work out on Mondays, Wednesdays, Friday's, etc. Make sure that you work out your pectorals (chest muscles) along with your back (lats, lower back and so on), and you should probably do shoulders (deltoids and trapezoids) on the same day. Arms can have their own day, but you can throw in some squats and bench presses. Working out legs will also give you a few extra pounds. Go as heavy as you can and try to mix exercises together.. For example, doing push ups right after bench press gave me good results.
Sorry for the long posts, hope it helps!
thank you very much! I really appreciate the posts, no matter how long they are...oh, i was looking at the GNC website (that's the only vitamin place in town) and they don't have the Champion stuff, they have something called 100% whey protein?????
Well I am Donald. My history was that I was a football player and everything in that time was bulk up, eat more, etc.... Well needless to say as football ended I ate more and gained a ton of weight. I then started trying all of the fad crap diets that did not work it was just making me go back and eat more once I got away from it. In December of 2006 a new coworker of mine turned me on to this website. I was skeptical at first as I have become with everything now. I vowed to start on 1/1/07 and did. I weighed in at 354 on that day and joined a gym. I started to realize on this site the crap I was eating was putting me at or around 4,000 - 5,000 calories a day. I set my limit to 2,000 and tried to reduce sodium and carb intake. It has worked I, as everyone else does, have my weeks where I am not good with recording food as well as I should. I am in the process now of making a commitment to do this full fledged. The last weight I have recorded is 305 so I am at 49 pounds down and shooting for 250. I know that I can do it.
The reason I am joining this group is that I am finding that as a male the society really does not allow us to talk about our weight as openly as women do. I am married and have been for 8 years now and want to give my wife the husband she deserves. She weighs only 133. I feel bad in public when walking with her as I feel that I am bringing her down. This depresses me and causes me to blow the diet. So I thought by coming on here it will give me someone to chime in to every now and again when I am feeling this way. Create a support system I guess.
I work in Aviation and travel 200 days a year (which is another challenge). I have 2 dogs 3 cats and 2 horses. My favorite cat is in the picture. I did not have one I felt comfortable putting on here yet. I am an Italian american which let me tell you giving up pasta 7 days a week was the hardest thing EVER.....
Well that is me. Let me know if there is something else you would like to know!

Hey Alexander,
In that case I would recommend buying Champion on-line because I have never heard of this 100% Whey Protein stuff. Sounds too generic and weird to be anything worth investing in. So my suggestion is buy on-line. On a side note I just had a shake with Champion protein, mmm...

hahaha.. Welcome to CC Donald. Good job on the 49 lbs. too, keep it up. Consistency is key, as I am sure you're already aware of.
Cheers,

Good to hear that you are a fan of the UK. I am a huge fan of the U.S.A. and like to visit as often as finance allows. Gradually visiting major cities - Chicago, S.F. Houston, NYC. Fell in love with Galveston TX and sad to see so much destruction and loss of life on the news reports.
Hi all.
Matt from Houston here. Been on CC for about 6 months, lost about 12 lbs since I started here, 40 before (that's 240 down to 188). Pretty happy with where I'm at now, although I've been a bit lazy (and ill, and busy, and hurricane impeded from the gym) this month, but I'm feeling remotivated to get back into it.
Like some others said, I joined this group since so much of the site is a bit, uhh, estrogen-heavy, and wouldn't mind have a place to share with the guys.
(artytim, check out the currently small group Motorcyclists, bikes, and bikers, and next time you find yourself coming to Houston, send a message, we'll find a calorically friendly place to get a lunch.)

Hi Matt
Thanks for the nudge in the direction of the biker group and will give you a shout next time I am Houston bound. Just keep me away from Texas Land and Cattle on I-10!
Cheers
Tim
Hi All,
I'm a 25yr old from london looking to put on around 25lbs. After some advice on the best way to do this really.
Joined this site about a week ago & regularly eat 3000+ calories a day but struggling to be honest. Depressing eating the same thing every other day & am worried that I'm not going to manage to keep this going for that long! Getting a lot of mixed messages from the forums so just after some sound advice directed at me.
Any food tips, supplement tips, lifestyle tips would be really appreciated
cheers
I just found this site today. I am 30 years old and am currently 5'10" 240. After wrestling (152) through HS and 1 year of college I joined the Navy and quickly jumped up to a stout 182. I maintained for my 5 year enlistment but upon separation I stopped working out but continued eating like I had to finish all meals in 2 minutes. Anyway, it has been 5 years now, and I need to get back down to at least 205. I work nights at a hospital and can rarely get to the gym as I have a 3 month old at home. I have trouble with finding time to sleep during the day, about 4 -5 hours per day (1 hour at a time). I would really like to hear about some home exercise routines if you have any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am 24yr old going to school living in dorms. just trying to keep track of what i consume at the cafiteria. I am in my second year so i have gained the freshman 15 last year and i decided this year i need to loose the freshman 15 and then some. goal is to loose the 15lb by the time i go back to work in the summer. currently i am 240 my final goal would be around 200. My weight loss is not so much for health reasons but more for personal self esteem reasons i have seen what being overweight will do and i dont want that to happen.
