Hi there, I'm old and fat. Can't do much about the first but decided to tackle the second.

Never seriously dieted before, been a heavy drinker all my adult life and gave it up four weeks ago. I reckon after that cutting back on food will be a breeze. Wink

I seem to have the diet under control, eating much the same amount of food but big on salads, fruit and calorie free liquids.

I've joined the group for support, to see how other people are handling things.

I'm retired, in a relationship and living in the north of Thailand. Originally Australian but have lived around Asia for a while now. I have a dog who tries to keep me fit but I have arthritis in both ankles. Hopefully weight loss will help this and we'll be able to hit the road a bit more. I don't own scales, I doubt I'd find a set to take me here but my clothes are definitely becoming looser.

1. History with weight loss:

I don't remember what I used to weigh when I was in High School, but after 4 years of college with no exercise and a horrible diet, it no longer matters. I weigh 188 lbs. and feel horrible everyday so I finally decided to get into shape and take care of my body.
2. History with Calorie Count:

3 days ago I started monitoring my calorie count, and it's the most difficult thing I've ever had to do. I've realized almost all my meals before exceeded the amount of calories and sodium I should have in a day. I know have about 1530 calories a day. It's hard but unless I want to keep shortening my life span, it's necessary.

3. Reason for joining this group:

I have no idea what I'm doing as far as weight loss goes.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

I do graphic design for a living so I'm always sitting down (which doesn't help with the gut)

hi my name is Andy,I am 26 years old, and I live in MN with my wife and 10 month old son.  my history with weight loss has been an up and down battle. i stayed at a steady weight through high school when I really hit the weight room and was active in football, but since then i have increased the weight over the past 7.5 years. At my heaviest i was 350 lbs, but now at 315 lbs. I recently joined calorie count with my wifes encouragement. I wanted to join this group so I could chat with other men who are struggling with their weight and want to lose weight to be more healthy. I work as a high school (7-12 grade) science teacher. We do not have any pets and my interests include anything to do with football and most other sports except basketball, i love to deer hunt and have gone every year for the past 13 years, i enjoy playing golf (even though i am not very good), i love to spend as much time with my family as i can

Hey guys:

I'm turning 59 in Feb. and hope to lose another 40 lbs (I have lost 20 lbs since Sept) by my 60th birthday.  That's the story behind the "sixtyby60".

I've been fighting this weight battle for years, but feel I've finally started to get serious about it.  I found out about CC from another website that linked me here when I was attempting to look up the caloric contents of some of the things I had been eating.  I was really impressed with some of the tools that the site offers and decided to join.

I joined this group to hopefully learn more about the process of getting healthier and to share our experiences with each other.  I have found that this helps me feel more motivated and accountable.

I am semi-retired, working about 20 hrs a week.  My main interests are traveling and cycling.  My short term goal is to prepare myself for a 2 week cycling tour in the Canadian Rockies next June (I'd like to be 180 lbs by then).

I'm married with two kids.  My wife is very supportive of my efforts.

Looking forward to finding some male bonding on this site!

Bob

Hi Guys,

I'm 46 years old, and for the first 30 or so years of my life I actually weighed less than I wanted to weigh. My weight finally caught up with me, and four years ago I was up to 214 pounds (5'10"). I started counting calories, using my own spreadsheet, and lost 40 pounds over six months. Over the next couple of years my weight started to creep back up, and by November of 2007 I was back up to 196. I went back to counting calories, and got down to 174 by February 2008. Unfortunately, my job role changed, and I now sit at a desk all day, where there are often bagels, doughnuts or candy around me.

Now I'm up to 202 pounds, and I'd really like to get down to 160 or less. My wife is in great shape, and my kids (ages 13, 12 and 9) are all three great athletes.

We live in North Carolina now, but I've lived much of my adult life in Europe, and worked for over a decade in North Africa. I just spent a week in Morocco, helping to run a track and field camp for kids in a village in the high Atlas mountains.

Hey Guys,

I'll be 26 at the end of the month, and am finally at the end of my rope, as far as my weight and shape is concerned.  Things finally got too much for me to handle in the last year or so.  I was unable to do the activities I normally did(rugby) and was super stressed finishing school and blew up from 270 to 330 in about 8 months.  and then had a crazy life trying to find a new job, and moving, in my case ended up being about 600 miles away.  But now that I'm a bit more situated and have gone up all the way to 340, even being 6'3" doesn't help that much.

I have just joined this site after stumbling upon it the other day.  I'm really impressed with the site and hope groups like this will help keep me going, and lead me to the point that I want to be.

As I've said I just moved from Michigan to Northern Virginia and really want to get myself straightened out, in the hope that one day I will be able to go to the pool, or go out to the bars at night, and not feel like a slob and a mess.

Hey Everyone!

I'm 27 years old and a buyer for a retail company.

I used to be pretty much toned and on the skinny side (170lbs), but since University I have gained about 40 pounds (in 3 1/2 years). About 9 months ago I went on a diet and started going to the gym. I lost 20lbs in 3 months, but lost motivation, and gained it back over Christmas.

I just started CC a couple days ago and am looking to get back on track.

Talk to you all later!

Hi All,

I live in Edinburgh and its very cold. Thats why  I eat so much ( I tell myself).

I lost 6.5 stone and am 6'1". I did it the bad way and became obsessed wiyh food. At my worst I ate an apple a day and avoided Xmas family get togethers and the like. I would not eat out with friends or go round for dinner because I would have to eat.  If I treated myself it would be with a big mushroom with mustard on it.

I have put the wieght back on and now want to do it properly. I weigh 210lb and want to drop 46lb.

My Main motivation is y waist size. I want to be able to go into the shops an pick up a pair of trousers and buy them.  I don't want to ask for a bigger size or only buy old man trousers.

Any advice on not getting obcessed please let me know.

Allan.

Hi everyone,

I have been up and down with my weight forever.  My highest weight was 255 then I did the low carb thing for while, then some other fad diet, but I have found the best thing is to track calories in and be sure to exercise.

I finally feel good about my weight control efforts thanks in part to using this website. My weight has been as low as 195 over this last year and just recently started to creep back up (201.2) I figured I needed to get back into my discipline.

I joined this group to support and be supported.

As my profile cites, my goal is to be published ( Hey maybe I will count this!!). and to get back to a single digit golf handicap. I love to read and try to exercise daily.

Best of luck to all.

Hello,

Haven't posted to any of the forums or groups before, but have been using the website off and on.  I'm 29, 5'5" and about 178 lbs at last weigh-in.  I'd been going back and forth between 170-175 for the last couple of years, and then somehow managed to hit 180 during the holiday - the most I've ever weighed.

So, I'm back using calorie counter because it's the only thing that's worked.  My ultimate goal is to slim down to 140-145, but if I can just make it back below 170 to begin with, that would be great.  I'm turning 30 in July, and I'd love to have most of this weight off by then.

I still have a closet full of clothes from when I weighed 135 about 7 years ago - oh, to be able to fit into those again!

I'm checking to see where the reply shows up.  I'm new to the website and learning it.

Hello All,

I have been on CC since July the 14th of this year and have lost 38 pounds.

Calorie Counter has been my guide and motivator. I decided to lose weight after a visit to my doctor in June of last year. I had no idea that I was that heavy. In view that I am on my feet all day, standing and walking, I decided I would be better off losing as much as 50 pounds. What a difference when I walk and stand. I power walk and my buddy Zeus is the avatar. We walk 2 or 3 miles a day besides my job that consists of mostly walking.

My main reason for joining this group is I needed something to keep me in check. Every morsel of food that I put in my mouth, I log. I keep my activity level at light, even though I know I'm moving all day. I found this CC through the google search engine when I was looking for the calorie content in a piece of pizza.

I am 59 years old and reside in Connecticut.  My favorite food is Pizza, anything Italian and pastries of all kind which I think about now but never over indulge.

Good Luck to everyone!

Hello All-

I am new to this forum as well as CC.  I have been fighting my weight for the past 10 years, and losing.

I currently weigh 277lbs and I am 6'2",  I am 37 years old.  19 years ago when graduation high school i weighed in at 175,  I was too skinny at that point for my frame.

I stumbled across CC over a year ago, created an account and promptly stopped using it.  I am back to it and plan to stick with it.

My reason for joining this group is based on a need to see others' struggles and success to help me realize that there are people out there that are struggling and succeeding just like me.

I live in Utah, sit a t desk job all day, have three kids adn beautiful wife, two dogs.

Hello Everyone-

I am new here; stumbled upon this site while trying to find a plan that I could stick with. I have a tendency to try to go too extreme and not lasting long. This site seems to be what I need to keep a steady, healthy track for the long term. I am 41 yo, 6' 2", and now weighing in at 275. It's been a steady climb for the last 10 to 15 years from a lean 190, with a lose 5 to 10lbs and gain 10 to 20lbs progression. I work 80 to 90 hours a week most of the time so fast food is probably my biggest enemy. Hope I can find some freinds here that will help me keep my head in the game.

Hello,

I'm all new to this, but am in need of some help from other fatties who are trying to get there life back to some kind of normality.Laughing

I have been big for most of my life but just before Christmas this year I weighed in at 266lbs and I didn't like seeing 19 stones on the scales!!

Since just after Christmas I have been watching the calories and as of today I am now down to 238 ( I dropped a bit before I started the diet, because of the 19 stone bit above) so in all I have lost 28lbs (2 stone) which I'm really chuffed to bits with.

I have started to do more exercise, which I'm enjoying, in fact I have enjoyed the loosing weight more that I thought it would.

Main goal is to get down to my target weight of 210 and then see where we are from there.

PS I can't wait to get rid of these man boobs......but I am now an A cup, I'm sure I was a D cup a couple of months ago.

Hey,

I have been fighting to get back down to 180 for a couple of years now. After college I hurt my back and got up to 220 while studieing for my boards. Now I have been bouncing between 200 and 210 trying to get down to 180.

I was surfing trying to figure out some way to keep track and get things rolling so I can stick with the weight loss thing and I came across CC and so far I seemed to have a good start but took a trip home and got it all back. So I am buckling down. My nutrition has deffenetly made and improvment.

I have been doing the Calorie count thing and from the looks of it most of the members were females and I finally found a place with stories I can relate too.

Right now I am a traveling nurse on night shift (which doesn't make loosing weight easy). I eat out way too much. I have a mut that is really good

Right now I am a traveling nurse on night shift (which doesn't make loosing weight easy). I eat out way too much. I have a mut that is really good at getting me out of the house for walks and stuff. But I got burnt out on the gym and being that I don't stay in one town for very long a membership isn't reasonable. So I am gonna start the ten minute trainer.

Other than that life is good. Still dealing with a bit of back pain but it is getting better by the month.

I'm not sure if this message goes out to the group but here it goes anyway.  I'm 38, married with 4 kids.  I work as a senior manager in a stressful industry and i like to use food and drink as my reward / stress relief. (depending on my justification or rationalization).  I've been using CC for 6 weeks now and its helping me to create a better balanced life.  I'm noticing my energy level and my overall attitude improving and I'm excited for the future.  I'm hopeful that this will ultimately make be a better husband, father, and boss.  Its crazy to think that losing weight will have this kind of positive impact but who knows?

Hello. I am 54 and my goal is to permanently drop 25/30 lbs in steps of 5lbs goals over the next 6 months through calorie and portion control/education and mild exercise. I live in toronto and would be very interested in joining any formal or informal support group available to help reach nutrition and exercise goals. I am focusing on small manageable steps at this time of 30 minutes of walking each day and trying ( very hard) to stay at the 1500 cal level. I have no interest in joining a formal gym at this point. I was in fairly good shape at 45/46 but let myself go over the last 8 years. I turn 55 in August so my goal is to be at < 175 at 55! After that it is maintenance and increased health. I have kept written food and exercise journals in past, this is my first online venture. I know there is no magic formula other than "less in and more out" for fat loss with it taking a 3500 cut in calories a week to lose one pound of fat which is roughly 500 a day either through exercise or diet.

Best wishes and thank you
