Here to work on good calorie intake and motivation to continue to live a healthy lifestyle!

Hello all,

Its nice to see that there are men on this site as well.  Sometimes it feels like the world of weight loss, as far as Madison Avenue advertisers are concerned, has only women.  Shows like "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" shows us that only homosexual men are interested in fashion and in looking good.

This site too seems to have more women then men, so this group is good to see.

Hi, I'm new to calorie counting. Decided to take drastic action in January when I reached an all time high of 270lbs. Went on the Lighterlife diet and managed to lose just over 40lbs in 7 weeks. Unfortunately I work shifts and the combination of the low calorie intake (only 500 a day) and the nights meant I kept getting ill - had tonsilitis 3 times in a month So I had to quit and decided to count calories before the weight crept back up. I'm finally feeling happier with myself so am determined that is the final time I'll need to diet.  I've given all my "fat" clothes to charity already so I can't afford to put it back on. Smile

Currently I'm 213lbs, standing at 6ft, got about 28lbs to go to finally be healthy. We've bought a Wii and I've started alternating exercise days - one day on the Wii Fit and the next a 30 minute run (although I'm still run / walking at the moment). Finding it difficult to keep this up when I'm working though, I work shifts (12 hours) so don't have much time and generally feel too tired.

Calorie counting is all new to me but seems to be working, although I am finding it difficult to meet the target on some days (never thought I'd say that!). Never used a forum before but hoping it will provide that extra support to keep me on the right track.  And it's good to see men do diet afterall!

Hi everyone,

I am also new to the calorie counting thing.  I figured it was time to try something different and actucally see how much I'm eating in a day to figure out why sometimes it's easy to lose weight and other times it's difficult.

currently i'm 6'5" and coming in at 246 this morning.  I was super skinny in HS and started gaining weight in college, like everyone does.  I was an active runner in HS and college but after graduation, just gave it up because there was no motivation to continue.

I figured when i hit a high of 263 1 1/2 years ago, it was time to get back in shape.  Losing weight is pretty easy for me, but the only problem is over eating.  If I track my calories and understand what I'm eating, hopefully I'll lose the weight.

Hey there--trying to figure out why the weight won't come off!  I eat pretty well and am fairly active-lots of fishing and hiking and now that the weather has turned, I am biking to work--I figure it's some combo of "forgotten snacks/unnoticed carbs/fats/alcohol" along with over-estimating my activities.

I never needed a diet until I quit smoking in 2000.  Then I gained 15-20 and since then more.  I was using calorie count to get food values, and then a light bulb went off.  DUH!  There 's a food log, too.

I live in the lovely town of Ithaca, NY, and like to fly fish and play bluegrass music.  I have a boy, my first on the way in July 2009. Life is good!  When the fish are biting, at least. :)

1. At my heaviest, I weighed 230 lbs. with a blood pressure reading of 180/160.  I also smoked two packs a week; I was a ticking time bomb.  I discovered health and fitness thanks to a friend of mine.  She was morbidly obese and tried every fad diet, exercise, and dodgy pill (Ma Huang, Fen Phen) on the market and nothing worked.  I jumped onboard as her workout buddy, but she fell off the fitness wagon.  I stayed ahead and dropped down to 175lbs. in less than a year.  Afterwards, I decided to change my diet and workout routine to gain muscle and strength and packed 20lbs. and increased my bench press significantly.    This was 7 years ago.  I have so far maintained my 199 lbs. weight and a size 33 waist line.  Now, my goal is to improve my endurance by shedding 19 lbs while maintaining muscle mass.

2. I just joined Calorie Count recently and I think it's an awesome tool.  It gives you the results you need and keeps everything organized.  Plus, the inventory of food available definitely helps.

3. I joined this group because I want to see and understand how men and women tackle their weight issues.  I pretty much have some general idea how women do it, but I want to see how other men tackle theirs.

4. I was a high school teacher in Guam and I'm currently waiting for a teaching post here in England.  I am in a civil partnership with the most wonderful man in the world; he makes awesome vegetable soups which really helps when you are watching your weight and nutrition.  I can share recipes if any of you are interested.  I love being active: running, weight lifting, swimming, Aikido, and tennis are some of my favorite activities...even though Mr. Magoo might end up looking like Roger Federer when he plays against me.

Hi,

Noob here.

10 years ago, after graduating from Uni (and lots of cheap beer), i was over 230 pounds. I did some construction that summer, moved to Taiwan, joined a gym and made it down to 200 lbs.

But life goes on, slowly I have been crawling back up to the 230 mark. Having a baby in the house doesn't help as there is little "me time" nor does working behind a desk for 9-10 hours a day.

Regardless, I back in the game and making some changes.

1) Ride my bike 8km to and 8km back to work (thats about 5 miles one way for you yanks).

2) Limit the consumption of potatoe chips and beer

3) Start taking the dog for longer walks

I am just about 49 years old (Turn 49 next month). I am 5'10" and in very good health. I really started getting serious about diet and exercise about 7 years ago. I have worked out and exercised regulary since that time and my weight had been pretty steady between 180 and 195. About a year ago I just got burned out with all the exercise and eating healthy and kind of went on an almost year long binge. I stopped going to the gym and packed on the pounds. In the end of April I weighed myself and found I was up to 216 pounds.

I just found this website and joined a week or so ago. Actually I have already lost 15 pounds at this time by getting back to the gym to exercise and watching what I eat. I joined this group for the support and for helpful tips.

I look forward as I continue going forward to get in the best shape possible.

I am 21 years old, and I've been overweight since I was a young child. About 2 years ago, I decided that I wanted to be in the military. I was told by the recruiters that I would have to lose a significant amount of weight. So for about 8 months I ate only healthy food and exercised constantly. I ended up losing about 60 lbs. Unfortunately I permanently injured my knee while running, and was unable to enlist. I ended up gaining all of the weight that I lost back, plus some extra. A few weeks ago I decided to get back into things. When I started my diet/exercise regimen, I was at about 325, as of yesterday, I am at 307. I am very tall and have an exceptionally large frame, and I also have a lot of muscle from the type of work that I do. Because of this, my target weight is about 240. I just started CC, and it's been a big help so far.

Hi

I'm from the UK but lived in the USA for three years.

My weight has gone up and down over the years.  I'm 5'11 and after going on Weight Watchers I got down to 164 lbs in 2002.  Then I moved to the USA, and when I came back to the UK in 2006 I weighed 217 lbs.  Now I'm up to 228 lbs with a 45 inch waist, so I can't really just blame living in the USA for my weight gain.  Smile

I joined calorie counter today.  A friend of mine lost about 35 lbs through calorie control, so I'm hoping to follow his good example.

I work as a software developer, and play board games in my spare time.

Hello evreyone,

I had back problems for years that led to less and less activity and I always drank alot of beer. I have a job that is not very physically demanding.

I recently had back surgery....and feel great. about a 3 weeks ago I got the greenlight from my doc to start exercising again(no weights) he recomended

a Bowflex, so I found a used one at a yard sale and bought it. I started a reduced calorie diet, began running, and 45mins every other day on my bowflex. just added some interval training. I am 5-9" and I was 220 lbs when I started and in 10 days I have dropped  12lbs and picked up an inch in my chest and lost 2 inches in my waist.  I am operating at a 2000 caloie deficit daily. Am I pushing too hard?  Everything I read says 2 lbs a week, Im averaging much higher than that. would love some feed back.

Hi Guys. Its nice to know that so many guys are having the same issues. Weight loss always seems to be more of a female thing!

I'm 36 years old and until around 10 years ago was always active a fit. However, a serious knee injury playing football (soccer for you americans) led to the beginning of my gradual weight gain. I struggled to regain strength and fitness after an operation and eventually had to stop playing.

At 6ft 5in tall, I was always around the 16st (224lbs) mark when fit, but over the years I have added weight and when I started my most recent fitness regime I weighed in at 20st (280lbs). I have been heavier, but would say that I have been an average of 272lbs for around the last 5 years.

I recently decided enough was enough and joined a gym locally (i have tried many times before but lacked motivation). This time though I have also joined the gym's own Weight Management Programme (which I call "Fat Club"). Meeting each week, we have education sessions as well as excersize and the emphasis is on a change in life style, as well as just dieting.

In my first week I lost over 4lbs which I was pleased with as I didn't really stick to the regime religiously in that time, but that loss has really spurred me on.

My aim is to attend the gym 4 times a week, including 2 classes. The classes are great as you have someone there who will push you on. The danger of training alone is that you will not push yourself as hard as you should. I do a Boxing Circuits Session and a Gym Circuits Session - I nearly died the first time I did them... but it well get better (I hope)!

My target is to get back down to 224lbs, feel more comfortable about my phsique and be able to buy clothes more easily. The comfort thing is important to me as I have avoided things like swimming, or going to the beach as I am so uncomfortable about my 'guts'... Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not as bad as others, but it's how I feel, as I used to be so fit.

Anyway, that's my story, hopefully just the beginning. Good luck to everyone and stay motivated.

Hi Everyone,

I'm 42 and about 5'11''.  I was really thin as a kid and played every sport up through grad school.  During grad school I gained a lot of weight until I was up near 220.  I lost a lot of weight doing Atkins and a lot of working out about 8 years ago and went down to about 170 but it wasn't sustainable.  Too little food, unhealthy all protien diet and too much working out.

I was about 190 6 months ago and am now back up to 204.  Started eating right again and working out 6 days a week.  2 days 2 circuits and speed bag (I've been doing it for years) 3 days 3o minutes on the Eliptical and one day an easier circuit and hitting the heavy bag for 3 five minute rounds.

I hope it works.  Otherwise I'll cut my calories from 2000 to about 1800.

Good luck all. Glad I discovered this place.

I'm 43, 5'11" , 201 and have had weight struggles since my teen years. Over the last several years I've been able to control my weight with excercise. I'm not a vegetable eater and am an avid snacker.

On June 24 I add counting calories to my routine. I lost 3 pounds my first week.

My goal is to be 185 by November of this year.  I do one of the following each week day: walk , run, cycle.

I look forward to being part of this group.

Hello everyone!

I'm 31 years young, 6'0" and 230lbs at the moment. I was at a high of 245lbs a couple of months ago, but luckily I'm on a downward trend! (hopefully)

My goal is to be down to 170 lbs (my high school "normal" weight) by the beginning of summer of next year, June 21st. That's about a pound a week, or about 500 calorie deficit per day. I think it's doable.

I've gone back and forth with weight loss... was a pretty normal sized teen, but got skinny one year, then another year I got fat hehe. I've bounced back and forth since then. This past year at 245 was my absolute high though - I knew I couldn't let myself get any bigger than that.

I don't like my new added weight and am very motivated to change that and get into the best shape of my life! I have enough experience putting it on AND taking it off to perhaps help those who are struggling with weight.

I have a wonderful but extremely hairy American Eskimo. I'm currently out of work at the moment and finding work is yet another motivation for me to slim down (to be more competitive in the job market). I like to cook some things but I"m not very good (I'd love to start learning how to cook really good stir-fries and Chinese food!). I experiment with vegetarianism all the time, but I'm constantly falling off of the veggie wagon.

Would like to chat with other guys going thru similar weight issues, and maybe we can motivate each other (I do pretty good at watching my calorie intake, but I need help getting motivated to exercise)...

Hi Everybody,

I'm 29 yo, 6'4 and have been strugling with my weight for a few years. I was always a bigger guy. At the heaviest i was at 320 which was over a year ago. Currently i am at 299. So i decided to join this site.

The weight has always been a problem as it has made me self concious about myself. So its a little hard for me to meet women. I even had my heart broken about 6 years ago when i had my girlfriend at the time leaving me for someone who was slimmer n fitter then me.

Ive always wanted to lose it so that i can find the right person but with my 30th comming up in 9 months, i decided to change that so that i do this for myself. That for once i can look into the mirror and be happy where i am. My goal is to get to 235 for my b-day. So that i can dance around in my underwear and sing "I'm 235 and im feeling fine."

After that i will reassess my goals for the summer.

hey,

i'm 35 and i've always struggled with my weight and have always been big, at least that's what everyone has always told me. in high school i was around 250 but was power lifting, then joined the Marine Corps and dropped down to 185. since i got out, i have ballooned up to 360 ( over a 13 year period). i hate what i have let myself become and have finally decided to do something about it. my wife told me about this site and i tried it once before but didn't stick with it, starting again, this time i won't fail, i can't, since i'm a cop my life depends on it.

Hello guys,

I am a school teacher that wants to get the weight off for health reasons.

currently I am 6 ft and weigh somewhere around 237, so I expect to lose a good chunk of fat, and try to learn how to keep it off.  That should be interesting for a 54 year old that needs a lot of motivation.

Take care
