And now just go ahead and make that first post!
This is weird: I, too, began Atkins on Monday. I'm in ketosis, with a dark purple on the strip. I've lost my appetite, so am eating when I feel hungry. Am retired, about to start a thesis for a master's in music and am working on a spiritual direction certification. Have been married five years. Husband is overweight. I weighed 157 today. Would like to lose 25 lbs. Not exercising much because (!) I'm very anemic right now. & (2) I'm extra busy right now, waiting for the end of this awful semester. Just ate some meatballs with shredded cheese atop: mmm. meatballs are little & have one carb each. should try to sleep now. interesting that I would check the groups and find someone who began Atkins when I did. I live in KY and am an original Texan. Dot... didn't post very much about her/yourself.

I started Atkins Monday (Nov 17, 2008). I've been eating healthy before this, limiting to 1200-1500 calories per day, I exercise a lot, I do a lot of running, walking, yoga, strength training. I would like to lose the last 10 lbs. I've been longing to see gone. I work full time, a mother of 2, still married (thank goodness), and I am also attending a college online to get my BS degree, I'll be done by the end of January 2009. Life is very busy, I commute 60 miles round trip to work everyday (Mon-Fri) and I live in California.
I was a bit overweight when I started walking beginning of 2007 to lose weight, I lost about 20 lbs in 3 months, then progresses to running. I am in a healthy weight range right now but on the upper range and I'd like to be on the lower range so I don't freak out much if my weight fluctuates 2-3 lbs.
My husband started Atkins 2 weeks earlier than I did, I wasn't sure it'll work so I told him I'll do it too if I see a result in him in 2 weeks. He lost 9 lbs in 2 weeks, so here I am starting my Atkins.
I'm writing this on day 5 of my Atkins diet and so far the week went well and I didn't feel hungry at all despite of the 20 net grams of carbs. I actually feel full all the time but not bloated. I haven't done much exercise this week so I'll be happy just to lose 2 lbs this week because losing 1 lb before Atkins was not even feasible in what I was doing before since I hit plateau.
I'm looking forward to weigh in on Monday (Nov 24) to see if I have any progress.
Welcome to the group and share some of your Atkins diet story here. I'd like to hear what works for you and what doesn't.
Cheers!

I am borderline anemic also, my husband has a high blood pressure and I'm quiet the opposite, blood pressure too low. I have hypothyroidism and I just had my thyroid test done before I did Atkins, my doctor said the result is normal so it's okay to begin with my Atkins diet.
I've been eating a lot of scrambled eggs in the morning...dunno how long that'll last before I get sick of scrambled eggs, luckily my husband is a very creative cook, adds different meat on it everyday....thanks for mentioning meatballs, I love them so I'll add them to our menu.
My weakness food is trailmix...and I can't have them this first 2 weeks, I've been craving them and missing it a lot - but I need to be discipline if I want to see results.
Let me know how are you progressing with Atkins.
Thanks for the post.

We went to a movie and dinner last night. Applebee's has this 2 for $20 thing going, and I had a steak, grilled mushrooms, and steamed veg. This morning I have only moderate ketones. I wonder if, like my husband the diabetic, my body makes sugar in the night while I sleep. His sister is a dietician and says the reason HIS sugar is so high each morning is that the body puts out sugar in the night. If that's true, would that reduce my ketone level? Inquirers want to know! A friend of mine just sold a book, so there will be a celebrative party tonight. Gene says he wants to do the low carb thing too, but he believes she will have raw veg as hor d'oerves. have had a headache for two days now. In addition to regular headache meds, last night I took an imitrex. I STILL have a headache. could be the diet, or just the low iron. I was born with a bleeding disorder, so I never know.
Be good today, Dorothy! best, dummie
Stayed Atkins-pure, despite party. Calcount's analysis has me at 11 carbs yesterday and 16 today. still headachy.
dummie,
Kudos to you for staying Atkins-pure at the party, even dining out. That's tough to do but I guess if we're on a mission, we become determine to do it. Are you going to weigh in to see the 1 week result of induction or you're going to wait at the end of week 2?
I was very good during the weekend, I ran 3 miles each on Saturday and Sunday, then I did a "last chance workout" last night before I weigh in this morning. We decided to skip on eating out for now, especially the holidays are just around the corner.
If you're taking imitrex, that means you have migraine headaches, right? I get migraines too and I used to take imitrex but I noticed that every time I take them, I get like a hangover headaches for a week before it's completely gone. I am taking maxalt now and it's working for me. I have been migraine free for a long time now since I started exercising a lot more (knock on wood).
I went to Walgreens pharmacy and found this southbeach snack bar that has 2 net grams of carbs only and it's on sale 4 for $5 (only chocolate peanut butter and chocolate flavors), they are really good because I already tried it yesterday. Also I got a slim fast drink with 2 net grams of carbs only, it's labeled as low carb drink.
Tell me how you're progressing. Do you best to be good this week!
Dorothy
I'm about to fall off the wagon, I think. My husband is really interested in low carb, so it would be terrible--I'd have to hide my transgressions. Perhaps it has something to do with running out of iron stores. I'll get an infusion next week. will go exercise now. After the two hour massage I had today, karma demands work.
Hang in there, wouldn't it be good if your husband join you in your low carb diet (Atkins)? You can both support each other, that's what we did, my husband did it first, after his 2 weeks induction - I joined him. I like the idea of having your spouse have the same diet because it makes cooking and eating a whole lot easier and enjoyable.
I've been taking iron supplyment daily for the past 3 weeks now - I haven't done that in a while, so I think it helps me become less fatigue.
I got up at 6am today to workout with my husband before he goes off to work because I'm off work today - getting ready for our 5K turkey trot race tomorrow.
Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday of the year next to Christmas - I will try my best to be as discipline as possible avoiding food loaded with carbs. I hope a little bit of those won't hurt me this week on my weight loss goal.
Have a great Thanksgiving Day with your family.
Hello,
I'm new to the group. Just started doing Atkins ten days ago. Lost 5 pounds in the first week. My goal is to get back to my maintance weight of 108 pounds.
I have a history of stress related binge eating. I'm very happy to report that my cravings were under control after only days on Atkins. I was drawn to Atkins' book after hearing that his diet can control one with carb/sweet cravings through keeping one's blood sugar stable. It works.
I have 10 more pounds to lose so I have moved on to OWL, added 5 more net carbs to my diet this week.
How is everyone in the group doing?? I notice that there are no recent posts.
Hey, im new to the group as well. This is my second time doing a low carb diet. I started about 5 days ago, and have already had my first failure :( i just filled up on carbs :(
I think there are a few reasons i have failed so soon. But the main one is that i dont fully understand the diet. I have gotten all of my information from the internet and i think i may be missing some key points. so if anyone knows where i can get some really good information on all the steps, and info about doing a low carb diet. please let me know.
well i guess i didnt really tell much about myself above. I am 20 years old. i am originally from Canada but i moved to Switzerland last year to work as an Aupair.
I use to exercise a lot. I ran everyday, and did a lot of team sports. but since ive been out of school i have completely stopped. My main goal right now is not to lose weight (although that would be great too) it is just to get my eating and exercise in control. I have a very unhealthy family history. High cholesterol and bad hearts, so i want to eat right and exercise now, so that i can enjoy my life for many years to come.
Right now i am trying to find a diet that works for me, and to get out there and exercise again! i have joined this group to have people to talk to about things that work, and things that dont. and to find someone to talk to and that can give me support when i feel im falling off the wagon!
Hi there!! My name is Victoria , I am 26 years old and I come from Greece.
I've been dieting since I was 14(!!!!) because I have the tendency to gain weight very easily. Unfortunately however all this diet really exhausted me and I ended up either eating too much or nothing. I 've tried to count calories but it was impossible to keep track and I was starving........
So I decided to follow the Atkins diet plan. The good thing is that I am not hungry anymore! That's a great thing for someone who felt hungry all the time!! And I'm stick to it! The bad thing is that I don't lose weight easily. About 1 kilo every 2 weeks...
I used to exercise a lot but now I've totally quit. I lead a totally sedentary life and I know that that's awful but I'm too impatient to wait to see results after years and years.
Now a few things about me... I am a law student and I am engaged. I'll get married on July and I want to lose all that weight since then.
Hi there,
My name is Terri. I am 45 years old. After having 3 children, I was always on the chubby side. Over the last 5 years I have put on an additional 60 pounds. A recent health scare and hospital stay sent me to the doctors to to have my blood profile done and the numbers were horrible. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, pre-diabetic, metabolic syndrom... the works. I was scared and committed at that moment to take charge of my health.
My highest weight EVER was on Christmas DAY (2008) which was 229 pounds. I started cutting out excess sugar, trans fats, etc and slowly started to take a few pounds off.
Today, I weigh 201. So I have lost 28 pounds in about 4 months. HOWEVER, 11 of those pounds came off in the last month alone when I went extremely low carb. My doctor told me to go low carb & low sodium and since then, my blood pressure has normalized. I am no longer craving sweets, carbs etc.
I excercise at least 30 minutes every day and usually eat anywhere from 1400 to 1800 calories a day. I use calorie count to make sure my fat/protein/carb ratios stay in check with a low carb way of life, to make sure I stay under 2000mg of sodium, and also to make sure I'm getting my proper percentages of calcium, iron, & vitamins A & C.
I am a stay at home mom/wife/grandmother. I've been married to my wonderful husband for 10 years this July and I'm truly looking forward to celebrating our anniversary ALOT lighter and healthier than I am right now.
I go back to the doctors in early July. He has given me 3 months to stabalize my blood pressure (which is actually normal now after taking off some weight), stabalize my blood sugar, take off more weight and most of all improve my cholesteral numbers.
My goal weight is 139. 62 pounds to loose to meet my goal which I have determined to meet by 12/31/2009.
I'm happy to be here to support others and get support myself.
Hi Everyone...my name is Sandra. I've been browsing this site for the past year unable to stay consistent with the calorie counting but definately loving all the information and reading up on soo many success stories. After searching and researching the internet, I've come to the conclusion that low carb is definately the best and easiest way to lose weight. I've always been good at sticking to a diet but I've yo-yo'd over the years and now after my third child have gone right up in weight like never before. I have zero minus energy to workout and I find myself extremely depressed at times and super tired. I'm resolving to follow the Atkins diet but the reasons I have faiiled in the past are because I am not a cook and I find I get very bored with the same food everyday. On the same note though, I like to keep things simple. I'm also super interested in alternative health so I've been reading up a lot on detox and Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar and thinking about the Fat/Protein Fast and trying to find a way to incorporate it all into a healhty but fast weight loss. I have about 110 pounds to lose to be at my goal weight - pre children. Maybe not very reasonable but I think I can do it if I stay on track!!! I'm hoping to be at my goal weight by the beginning of next summer. That's 110 pounds in 8 months so my monthly weight loss goal is 14-15 pounds or roughly 1/2 per day. I'm glad to join this group and will keep everyone posted not only on my progress but also with my million questions!!! Thanks everyone and good luck to us all on our weightloss journey!
hello everybody, my name is Maria, I live in NY, I am 24, married, & have 3 toddlers.![]()
I have a very long story of why I gained so much weight AFTER my pregnancies but to make it short, I have undiagnosed thyroid issues. (doctor apt. in a couple weeks) I gained about 40 lbs within a month of having my last child and i was already over weight before. It's been almost 2 yrs and i havent lost much weight and have tried low cal, exercise, and even not eating at all. I need to loose 50 lbs by summer!!
I am hoping that a low carb diet will give me the boost i need to get focused and get my much missed figure back.
