And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Wow, am I really the first?
1. I started graduate school in 2006, moving to NY from SC. My first semester here, I lost 5 pounds to be about 145 (i was running a couple times a week at most, but other than that, not doing anything special! i think it might have been cooking for myself more? i'm not sure...). I went home for Christmas break and felt great. I proceeded to come back to school for 2007 and gain about 15-20 pounds over the next year! Part of it was due to a sprained ankle that interrupted my running routine, part of it was getting used to winters up here that are so cold and dark, part of it was that my TSH levels (I have Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism) were really high, and part of it was getting a new boyfriend and getting sucked into eating more calories and drinking a couple glasses of wine a couple times a week! Needless to say, I feel/felt gross. I have just discovered I have IBS as well, so I have been motivated to eat better and lose weight, for myself as well as to hopefully control the IBS! I don't want to look at pictures of myself and get depressed anymore :)
2. Just started Calorie Count this month and love it so far. Have lost a few pounds already and am looking forward to losing the 15-20 pounds I gained, and hopefully even more!
3. Its always nice to talk to people that are geographically close to you. Also to get help with what to do exercise-wise during the dark of winter when I can't go outside (and hate going to the gym!)
4. I'm going into my 3rd year of grad school at Stony Brook in oceanography. I have a serious boyfriend of over a year, and a great group of friends. I'm a twin, and she has struggled with weight loss even more than I have.
Hi,
New here....48 y/o female who has always has a weight problem.......Meet my goal weigh on Weight Watchers in my 20's, didn't last. I went on the liquid diet when Oprah did and brought out her wagon of fat. I lost 45 lbs in 3 months on that......Didn't last. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with a cancerous ovarian tumor, which resulted in total hysterectomy with ovaries and appendix surgically removed, which lead to surgercial menopause. It's now harder than ever to lose weight..........Just started the Flat belly diet this week, as that is one of my problems, belly fat, since menopause..........I have had considerable experience with calorie counting. I am a nurse Manager in a Manhattan ER, very stressful position, but I love it! I hope we can help each other out!
Cheryl

1. History with weight loss:
I have had issues with weight since Jr. High. I am now 46.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined in July 08 after researching calories for various foods.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I've never used forums before, but I want to do things the right way this time. I want to live a healthy permanent lifestyle, not relying upon quick fixes, and I find this site to be very motivating. Since I am 5'7 and currently weighing 242 (12 lb loss,) I still have 99 lbs to go. Since I wear size 16-18, to some, it's hard to believe that I am carrying so much extra weight, but I am, and I plan to rectify that ASAP
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I am a manager in NY, married 15 years to a supportive husband (who incidentally is a physically-built chef, ) and we have a beautiful 9 year-old daughter.
I love to do charity work through my church, and as of late, I love to walk. Today I walked over 12,000 steps at lunchtime! I am pleased with that, and motivated to do more.
I look forward to going the distance with the help of this site and the encouragement of this group!
Have a fabulous day because you are worth it!
Hello!
Here's my quick intro:
1. History with weight loss:
I've gone up and down all my life. I was doing really well last fall, but suffered a major setback last winter: my 28 year-old brother died in a skiing accident. I left the site for several months and am now ready to start fresh and get down to my goal weight.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I lurked here for a couple of years before really getting in to it last fall. I love this site; the support of people here has really helped me, and I've learned so much from surfing the forums and reading journals.
3. Reason for joining this group:
It takes a village!
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I live on the UWS and teach high school in the Bronx. Most of my family is out West, and I sometimes think of moving back there...but I love my urban life style and can't imagine going back to car ownership.
Hi everyone!!!
1. History with weight loss:
I was always the super skinny girl, never had to watch what I ate or exercise until my 20s, when the weight started piling on. Because I had always been thin I didn't know how to diet successfully. I really piled on more weight in my early 30s. When I turned 33 I wanted to have a great year but I was 20-30 lbs heavier than where I am comfortable and super unhappy.
Then it just changed .... I was tired of being unhappy. My whole perspective changed ... I wanted to be happy and needed to make it happen for myself.
I lost some weight just due to the bare bones basics of healthy eating I already knew about, but wanted to lose more and wanted to be able to sustain it.
Hence how I found CC and then my education started. I learned that healthy food can be delicious and you can still have your treats. I learned the meaning of calories and how much I should be eating. The weight slid off.
I lost 30 lbs in 6 months and have kept it off for a year now. I completely changed my attitude towards food. I educated myself about health.
I have never felt better.
2. History with Calorie Count:
Joined in May 2007 and haven't looked back!!
3. Reason for joining this group:
I am New York, New York.
4. Some interesting details about yourself:
I am getting married next week and actually moving out of NYC to the burbs (waaaaaaaaaaah)!!!
Hi!
Here's my mini bio...
History with weight loss: Like nycgirl, I was always skinny, too. It wasn't until recently that I started to gain. I would yo-yo up and down within 5 pounds, but it wasn't anything I worried about. Last November, my husband and I moved to NY (Long Island) from sunny southern California (LA). Needless to say, leaving my job and my friends, and coming to a totally new environment was a little stressful. That's when I really gained and this time it was more than a measly 5 pounds. ![]()
History with Calorie Count: I joined CC in July of 2008. This is a wonderful resource for those who wish to lose a little or a lot of weight.
Reason for joining this group: I love meeting and talking to new and interesting people!
Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Currently not working...In LA I worked with disabled students at a community college. I married my best friend in January of 2007, I still consider this our honeymoon! I have 2 kids, 1G & 1B, and 3 grandkids - 1G & 2B.
Lots of luck to all of you! ~Bea
Hello!
1. History with weight loss: I was always little overweight in high school and first year of college. Then i started to work out sophomore year(lasted about 9 months) due to work/study/GF reasons i stopped and i got fat. I really don't want too skinny. Currently i go to gym 6/7 days a week, Jog every morning (sometimes at night also) and watch what i eat.
2. History with Calorie Count: i joined a week ago or so.
3. Reason for joining this group: Because i live in NJ but i spend most of my time in NYC
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests:Currently i'm just a college student. I worked in whole bunch of places i am looking for a job in the meantime trying to lose extra few pounds.
I think losing weight consists of 3 parts: Activity (cardio or weight), Food and sleep. If you do these often u should be losing 2 pounds every week which i'm aiming for.
1. History with weight loss: I chunked out in middle school (11 or so) thanks to asthma and the meds to treat it, and have been fighting the weight on and off ever since then, and I'm 22 now.
2. History with Calorie Count: I've been here on Cal Count since mid July and have lost 12 lbs so far, for my current goal I have about another 20 lbs to go, though when I get there I might decide to lose more we'll see.
3. Reason for joining this group: I'd really love to meet some friends who could provide weight loss support and maybe be a gym buddy?
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I work in NOHO at a PR firm as the Graphic Design Intern. I live home with my family; mom, dad, and kid brother and my puppy Muffin. Hmmm what else? I just recently got engaged and am very excited about it :)
The reason I decided to join is that I don't exercise, and I know sooner or later I'll be paying for it. I joined the Sports Club LA on UES, but hardly go there. I walk to the office and home, but that's about it. I figure at least I should try and watch how much I eat. I never eat junk food, mostly home meals and lots of fruit. But I am one of those who doesn't stop...
I am in real estate, live in NYC, have a family, and a dog and can't quite figure out if this is considered as "interesting facts" on this blog. Certainly, all of this is interesting to me. I am also heavy into architecture and contemporary art.
1. History with weight loss:
I lost 60 pds between 2004-2005 through exercise and WW and have kept most of it off. A few of its cousins have come creeping back and I'm trying to dump them!! Exercise is what is saving me.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I try to be consistent but am constantly falling off the wagon.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I joined for some support from people who know how hectic it is to live in this crazy, shove a donut down your throat while running to the next place.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I am a single mom living in Queens. i work and go to school in Nassau County and am pursuing a Masters in ESL. I have an 11 year old son who drives me nuts but who I love with all my heart. I love taking classes at the gym and eating. I hope that I can get some support and accountability by joining this group!
1. History with weight loss:
Ive only really lost a large amount of weight from 250 to 220..and i gained all of that back..than some..smh...n now im trying to lose it all an than some.
2. History with Calorie Count:
&nb sp; i just started that, but im really guessing because i dont have anything to measure with.

Hi, I recently joined Calorie Count. I have been overweight most of my life, and eventually found myself obese (to my surprise because I just was not paying any attention anymore). Long story short, I lost a significant amount of weight 7 years ago and have successfully maintained this weight loss.
I am now a counselor specializing in weight management in New York City. I am passionate about helping people dealing with weight loss, emotional eating, food addiction, eating disorders, post-weight loss, and body image concerns because I have been there myself. I am pleased to have created a unique way to help others with weight management, called Mind Body Music. Mind Body Music is a blending of traditional talk therapy with mind-body techniques, breathing, meditation, and music.
Hello everyone,
1) Lost 25 pounds on my own and gain it all back in a year...plus another 15...
2&3)used Calorie Count for just the calories of food, never took advantage of the groups or other neat stuff on the site...so I really want to get involve because it has been such a struggle to stay focus with food and working out consistently and obviously I need to do something different.
25 years old, been in NYC for a year and love it! However, I moved to the city for fashion and the great opportunities...butI can't fully express myself with fashion because I have gain so much weight. I have a beautiful cat name Damali, in Sales and that's about me in a nutshell!!
Hi everyone,
My name is Stacy and I'm a 32 years old. I'm mother to a 13 yr old who is driving me crazy, the economy is in the toilet and I have a new boyfriend. So between the stress of child rearing, being in love and worry about my few pennies, I binge eat and enjoy a lot of comfort foods.
History with weight loss:
I currently weigh 156 pounds and I'm 5'7". I fluctuate between 130ish - 140ish. This is the heaviest Ive been excluding being pregnant. I usually dont have to do much to gain weight, I start engaging in some physical activity and the pounds drop and I could still eat what I wanted. That was til my last bday. Im finding my old tricks arent working
2. History with Calorie Count:
This is my first time counting calories and I used to think it was a fluff method but since I have nothing to lose I figured I would try. So far I have been pleasantly surprised.
3. Reason for joining this group:
I need support, I have no discipline and I figure if extend my accountability to large group I will be more likely to succeed.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I work in IT project management (so Im sedentary all day). I'm a mom and in a great relationship with a supporting loving man who eats what he wants and hardly gains a pound and wants me to eat what i want with him.....NOT!
I am so excited about this group. I was born and raised in Manhattan NYC. I moved to Brooklyn and now unfortunatly I live on the east end of Long Island. I am hoping to move back to Brooklyn within the next few years. I am 29 years old. I have always had a problem with food, I just never really knew it till this summer. I am total compulsive over eater. I used to binge out really badly. When I 1st went into a recovery program for this disease, I weight 194 pounds, I am only 5'1". I have been watching what I eat and hired a nutritionist and have stuck to this food plan since June 28Th 2008. In that amount of time I moved to a new apartment that has a gym on premises. I go 5 to 6 days a week. In this amount of time almost 6 months I have lost 52 pounds. I can't believe it, I never would of thought it was possible. I am wearing my box of skinny clothes. LOL. I want to weigh 120 pounds so only 22 pounds to go. I know I am going to get there it just takes time and willingness.
2. I have been on Calorie Counter since June of 08
3. My reason for joining this group is that since I moved to Long Island I have not made any friends, all of my friends are back in NYC, I would like to make Friends and talk to people with the same things I struggle with. I try to get back to the city every 2 weeks to see my friends.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I work full-time well not really, my office is closed in the Winter months. I love to read and write go shopping. I have my own place that I really love. I love to dance, I usually go back to the city for that though. I am just a down to earth person trying to lose weight
I'm finally counting calories to lose weight. It is certainly keeping me honest. In the past I've been very good at deceiving myself about food content and portion size. I'm hoping that participating in this group will help me to stay motivated. I'm now retired--both a blessing (I can cook more) and a curse (I have more time on my hands.) I live in Bergen County NJ and would love to find a walking partner to get more exercise.
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda I just moved to NY this past fall to attend NYU, and I'm loving it!
So I have been athletic my whole life very fit never over weight I have always been close to 125 at 5'3" for the past 5 years or so, however about this time last year I was put on some medication for arthritis that made me gain weight about 20lbs. I began counting calories after that but I was only able to get back down, I was having some luck between diet control and lots of exercise, but then I broke my foot and basically am back to where I was, and now am looking to drop those 20lbs by summer.
I joined this group in hopes of meeting people that share healthy eating habbits and hopfully inspire me to keep going and drop the extra weight.
As I said earlier I go to NYU, and I am an acting major. I love it so much in the city! I'm originally from Wisconsin near Milwaukee. I like sports a lot I love bike riding, snowboarding, swimming, basketball, and running. I am hoping to participate in track at NYU I'm a pole vaulter. However, breaking my foot has been holding me back a little. I broke it pretty badly this October at gymnastics on a trampoline. I also enjoy theatre a lot obviously, opera, and orchestra music. I play the trumpet as well, sing, and dance! I love dancing!
Wow... it's great to have an all NY-ers group!
(Hi Amanda2012, NYU grad student here (Global Affairs). Tara627, I'm also an east-ender, currently in Queens though.)
Joined CC in 2008 for New Year's. I'm here, yet again, after falling off the wagon mid-2008 (school, stress, eating out a lot and drinking, etc didn't help).
I love fitness and being healthy, but never seem to lose weight. This year I want/need to drop about 10lbs which has piled on since my metabolism has slowed. I'm planning to run the NYC marathon in Nov '09 (if anyone is looking for a running partner, let me know). But lately, I'm seriously lacking motivation on both the diet and exercise front. I hope to find some camaraderie here.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and is ready to kick start a successful new year on CC!
Hi!
1. History with weight loss: I usually have been very relatively fit because of dancing and swimming. But then I hit college and gained 23 lbs the last 4 years and am hoping to lose 'em!
2. History with Calorie Count: I'm totally new, so I'm really hoping to get on this!
3. Reason for joining this group: I want to lose weight and hopefully eat better. I have a tendancy to not be able to do anything by myself, so having a support group would help a lot! And I would be more then willing to help others!
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I work as an animator in Manhattan and I live in Brooklyn. I have to birds and love to swim and draw!
I really look forward to talking with everyone!!
