Hi, my name is Nan. I am a market researcher currently on a leave of absence from work. I want to use this time to get into shape. I am 49 years old and have been relatively fit much of my life. I spent most of my 30's into my early 40's 10 - 25 pounds heavier than I would like. My weight was never a major issue until I saw some pictures of myself and realized, I really need to lose weight! Another part of my "wake-up call" was losing a friend to cancer. I decided to try to lead as healthy a life as I could. I also realized that I was no longer fitting into "L" in many labels. A shoulder injury (a blessing in disguise) got me to start seeing a physical therapist and exercising my upper body regularly. Since I was forced to exercise daily to alleviate the shoulder pain, I decided I may as well exercise my lower body as well. I also started to eat a healthier diet. My approach to diet was to ask myself whether what I was putting into my mouth was helping or hurting me. Seeing results was motivating and at 43 I was in the best shape of my life. I was down to 120 pounds and really toned. I maintained that weight for a few years but over the last couple of years it has slowly crept back. A high pressure job and lots of travel made exercising regularly and eating healthy difficult.
Last Monday, as step 1, I got on the scale (after avoiding getting on one for far too long) to see my starting weight (144.4). I would love to get down to 130 and see what happens then. 120 would be a dream come true but may be hard to maintain. I've been going to the gym every day; pilates classes, spinning, yoga, etc. I ate what I consider to be a healthy diet but at my weekly weigh-in this morning I saw I still managed to gain .4 pounds. I decided to weigh myself weekly so I wouldn't be discouraged my daily fluctuations. Although, I did weigh myself on Wednesday, and was thrilled to see that I was down to 142.8. Seeing that I had regained the little bit of weight I lost and then some was disappointing. My problem is portion control. Another problem is that even though I eat healthy foods, they are not necessarily low-calorie. Further, I wasn't so good on the weekend (cocktails Friday night, wine with dinner on Saturday). Ordering in and overeating both nights. Another problem is too much snacking, especially at night. If I am going to lose weight and keep it off, I need to be vigilant about watching my portions, less snacking, and not treating weekends like I have some kind of free-pass. Calorie Count may be the ticket. Even though I was writing everything I ate down in a journal, I really did not know how many calories I was consuming. I think if I know how many calories are in all those healthy snacks, I would eat less and it would be easier to actually see some results. Google searches helped me to find my way here. I would really love help with meal plans, shopping lists, etc. Since I am on leave from work, I have rediscovered the joy of preparing my own meals. I think keeping track of what I eat/calories throughout the day will help me to avoid overeating.
I am a native New Yorker, and that is why this group appeals to me.
1. History with weight loss: I've been one of those people that stays within the same 10-15 pound range, but always want to be on the lower end of that range. I'm looking to lose about 10 pounds but it's those HARDEST 10 pounds. Also looking to just get in healthier shape and work out more.
2. History with Calorie Count: This is a new beginning for me.
3. Reason for joining this group: Maybe get some motivation from my fellow NYC peeps.
Hi, I'm Tara. I'll try and make this quick and simple
1. History with weight loss: Was thin most of my life. In JHS and part of HS I had some body image issues and at times was underweight.
2. History with Calorie Count: This is my first time here.
3. Reason for joining this group: This is probably the first time in my life that I am considered overweight. As you can see I am even having a hard time writing ..I am overweight.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I was born, raised and still living in Brooklyn. I am married with 3 kids ages 14, 10 and 3 (almost). I work full time in mental health/human services field. I am almost 5'3" and 139lbs. My goal is to weigh between 100-110, but at this rate I would be happy if I could at least reach 115.
Hi, I live in NYC with my dear SO, no kids, almost 47, 5'10" 176 as of ths AM.
I am a healthcare administrator, working on my MBA at night.
I am an overweight gym rat! I am a power lifter type and love the whole strong Amazon girl thing, but have put on 25-30 pounds the last few years that MUST GO!
I have had weight issues my entire life, and even though I need to lose some weight now, my attitude to food and myself is probably better than it has ever been. So I am hopeful...
I have been on CC for just a few days, but really like the place.
School and work has limited my social contacts over the last few years, but I really want to get back out into the world and enjoy all the great stuff NYC has to offer.
Hey Guys I live in Brooklyn.
This past thanksgiving I reached my highest weight since I was quite overweight in highschool. Since then I have eaten healthy and endeavored to have a more active lifestyle. I have lost about 25 pounds since then. This is the point that I usually start gaining weight again. So this time I am really dedicated to keep it going.
Just to throw a wrench into things I haven't smoked a cigarette in 8 days now I am on the patch and I used to smoke a pack a day. I guess what I am here for is the caloire counter and the activity meter. As I find my self wanting to snack more I think this will be a help. I am also doing 20 push ups when ever I want a cig so my arms are sore to say the least.
Any way Nice to be here!

Hello everyone,
I'm a new member to the group. I am also in my Early 20's, a full time student and I recently lost my job. I have cut down on any form of exercise mainly because when I worked I was always standing and lifting boxes which was my exercise and commuting from Maspeth Queens to Mid town (public transportation) I have became very lazy and not paying any attention to what I was doing to myself over the past two months now. I have always had problems with my weight at times I'll be at my normal weight then go up and down, but for the most part I have not been the weight I'm supposed to based on my height.
I was told by my doctor to regain self control of my body and look for some support while I'm making this transformation from being lazy, unhealthly to a motivated healthyly women again. So I had looked up what was a calorie and was suggested to visit this web site that can help me on a new journey I hope to conquer. I can use some support in losing weight and keeping it off.
also I have a large puppy named Choco that I walk with 2x a day for over 30 minutes and we run up/down the stairs together. He's the only support I have, he's a great partner but I can always uses another.

Hi! I'm Kat.
Joined this to find a positive community for people in the area. I'm in Yonkers, but drive into NYC all the time. I have quite a bit to lose; thought it'd take me forever but Calorie Count thinks I can do it in one year (such great news!).
As for interesting stuff, I've done a lot of traveling, I have a cat that fetches toys and plays in the bathtub, and I can kick your butt at Tetris.
Hi NYers,
I'm new to the site and having trouble sticking with my diet and the discipline of calorie counting, but I really need to lose 90+ lbs for health reasons.
I'd love to hear from anyone interested in starting a walking group in the mid-Westchester area- I have to go slow but I can walk 3 miles at a clip, and it always goes faster with a friend along.
Cheers,
Ann
Hey fellow Nyer's
As an adolescent I was overweight and even though I thought I was bigger than I actually was at the time (as per being friends with a group of size negative zeros), weight itself has always been a big part of my life. Within the last 13 years of my life, I have been stuck in this revolving door of weight gain and weight loss, which I feel as though has taken control of my life in some instances. But... I think that calorie count is an easy enough way of staying on top of weight maintenance and possibly moderate wight loss, without getting too crazy with points and carbs and grams and blah, blah, blah, blah...
1. Lost weight in highschool (about 30 -40 lbs.) by working out an hour or more a day 5-7 days per week, while on the weight watchers points system. (If you follow it diligently it does work, but you can becoem obsessed with it once your hooked).
2. I am a new member :)
3. I need to discuss my feelings surrounding food and weight etc. with people who feel similarly.
4. I am a social worker. I live with my fiance (childless for now, and hopefully for a while :) ). I don't have any pets as permy land lord's preference but I would like to have a cat. I am interested in social thought, societal issues, culture and writing.
Hey..
How did you get involved in that profession? That's great. I was a substance abuse counselro for a little while out of college but my heart wasn't in it because I couldn't relate to it at all. But, I could definitely relate to people who have experienced issues with weight.
Hello all! My nickname is Solar. I am currently residing in Brooklyn. My weight has been up and down with my development. Early childhood I was pretty overweight, when I got to high school I lost almost all of that weight through weight training. After high school my weight crept back up again. Now I want to get it down and keep it down. I just joined calorie count yesterday(I was researching proper jogging posture on About.com). I joined this group to find like minded people to go through the battle of the bulge with! Maybe meeting a few new friends that I could go for drinks with or just hanging out wouldn't be bad either. I have developed an interest in politics, philosophy, reading, rights(human, civil, animal in some cases). I like walking, site seeing, miniature golf, plays, movies, etc. I'm single student trying to lose some extra weight!

Hi!
1. History with weight loss: I, like some of you, was thin for most of my life. i danced competitively through highschool. college hit & i gained about 20 lbs. since i've graduated (last may) i've managed to lose about 10 of those and i'd like to lose about 15 more.
2. History with Calorie Count: I just joined this week and I'm really excited about it. So far it's been helpful in keeping me busy when I'm getting the urge to snack. i just get on here and chat with all of you fun people!
3. Reason for joining this group: I went to school out of state & studied abroad so I'm lucky enough to have seen a lot of different places - but NYC is it for me - new yorkers, we just get it.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I was born & raised in Queens. Went to school down in Baltimore (not a real city haha) and I'm happy to be back. I work as a paralegal in midtown & love it!
if anyone wants to share stories, give motivation or tips feel free to message me!
nyc born and raised but live in upstate now. married with two kids and looking to loose 20 lbs (already lost two). joined calorie count june 3 but started diet and exercise on june 1, looking for ideas and advise on loosing weight with my fellow new yorkers.
Hi everyone! My name is Lisa and I just got started on caloriecount.com yesterday. I'm really excited about finally getting serious about losing weight and getting healthy. I've struggled with my weight for a long time, I guess since I was about 10 years old, although I wasn't always overweight. Now I'm 28 and tired of living my life feeling lousy about myself. I love all the tools and support this website offer and have faith in them, that they'll help me to finally lose this weight.
I joined this group because I'm located on the South Shore of Staten Island and would love to find an activity partner to go jogging/walking with. I'm open to other calorie-burning activities too.
Some interesting things about me: well, I've lived in China and Thailand, for one year each -- I teach English as a second/foreign language and love traveling; living abroad was challenging, but fun, and I hope to travel some more in the future.
