Greetings, fellow Texans!

My name is Val, and I live north of Dallas in McKinney with my fun-loving 15 year-old son, a cat who shows signs of neurological damage and an emotionally-needy dog. I am a widow. I teach psychology and sociology at Collin College, and while I don't love the bureaucracy of education, I sure love the classroom. :)

I love food! I eat fairly healthy foods, but I really am terrible about controlling portions. Being active and outdoorsy has kept my weight down for the most part in my adult life, but having taken on some more sedentary admin tasks at work, combined with getting older, I have gained roughly 10 lbs per year for the last five years. When I finally hit 196 (at 5'3") and saw some photos of myself, I suddenly realized just how out of control my weight had gotten.

I joined CC in January 08 and started taking honest account of portions, and the weight is steadily coming off. I am currently at 167, with a goal of 140.

I joined the group because I had a little message on my account page suggesting some good matches. The idea of a local group was appealing. I think Texans face some particular challenges with weight and fitness in general because our local culture and structure revolves around eating and is not terribly pedestrian-friendly. (My weight ALWAYS drops when I am somewhere with subways and sidewalks, lol.)

WHAT IT DO MY DFW PEEPS!!!

My name is Jarred and I'm a pretty cool dude....eff that!...I'll rock your face off I'm soooo cool.  I live in Addison with my 10 cats and 4 monkeys...whom I train to do circus tricks and then pick pocket homeless people (if you believed this for a second then you are a tard).  I'm an engineer in frisco and I'm typing this up instead of doing actual work.  I use to be Fatty MacManboobs tipping the scale at somewhere around 220lbs (scales to fatties, is like crosses to vampires) until break dancing became impossible....I started my weight loss journey a little over a year ago and have been an active member of CC since this april....I currently weigh about 165lbs (thats my goal this week) with a final goal of about 157lbs....I joined this group for the same reason sociaval did...plus I got tired of reading about 120lb 16yr old girls crying about their three day plateau in the weight loss forum....If you want to know any additional info, then you can check out my profile or drop by Harry Hines on the weekends, I'll be out hooking with the rest of the tranny prostitutes.

Hi Ya'll! I'm Susie, and I used to weigh 220+ and lost down to 125. Since I started a desk job and had an ovary removed and my hormones have gone wacky I'm up to around 150. Which sucks hard. I want to aleast get back to 130. I'm a travel agent, married for 20 years to the love of my life, have a beautiful girlfriend, (yes, he knows and he likes her) four kids, all of who dwarf me. I'm 5'7 and all except one of my kids is at least 6 foot, and he will be, he's just 13. I have 2 cats, one has 3 legs, and a very spoiled English Bulldog. We live north of Dallas about an hour and go into there at least once a week, and usually twice. All our friends live there, and now that my kids are nearly grown and have their own stuff to do, we get to go party.

I joined to find friends who know what it's like to struggle with their weight, and for moral support while I try to get back into my fat jeans. I'm working toward the fat ones first, the skinny jeans are a dream right now.

Hello world. I have joined CC with the hopes of improving my health and keeping all of the health issues associated with age at bay. I figure if i chose to become healthy and exercise now it will be nothing to continue when I am 45 or 50.  I've never was an overweight child thanks to a fast motabolisim and growing up in a place that allowed me to run in the fields most of the time. y problem came when I hit 25 and started working at a desk.  My highest was 230 and now I sit in the range of 210 to 220 and want so desperately to get down around 190 and maybe even bulk up a bit. So all the motivation I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all.

  1. infamous yo-yo diet - first started dieting when my fat jeans were too small.  i cried on my closet floor for about a half hour. (but i'm a crier, so it wasn't that big of a deal).  i lost 60 lbs, then gained 20 of it back.
  2. found this site and i've been a member since sept. '07, lost 5 pounds, gained 5, lost 15.
  3. saw a profile with a guy who had a group about loving cats; i despise them.  i thought i'd look for a group about hating cats when i found this one.  thought to myself,  "hey, i'm in dallas and surrounding areas!  i wonder who else is...", then i joined.  plus what jarred said - "I got tired of reading about 120lb 16yr old girls crying about their three day plateau in the weight loss forum."
  4. my name is rebecca. i'm 26. born in odessa, but now i live in garland (the scary part) with my big strong man who keeps me safe.  don't be jealous.  i have a bull terrier (spuds mackenzie), named kismet.  she loves to jab people in either the crotch or the butt crack with her dolphin-like snout upon meeting them.  again, don't be jealous. working on my second bachelor's degree. going to utd for electrical engineering. yay for calculus!  for the last time, people... don't be jealous.  i hate it SUPER bad when people misspell the words: misspell, a lot, and lose (most people on here type loose instead).  i also hate it when people say ATM machine, PIN number, or VIN number.  i love food; picking my nose; watching family guy, southpark, and two & half men; shooting/hunting, and pooping (you know you love it, too.)
  1. I was denied gastric bypass by my insurance last March and three months later started my first diet in years, South Beach.  I came in at 465 lbs and am down to about 270.
  2. Found CC in August and along with SB, it is the reason for my success.  I was never very concerned about dieting healthy, just getting off the weigh so the site has been a godsend for focusing on the entire picture.
  3. Im in Carrollton, a Jersey born and bred, but been here since '88 so wanted to hang with my 'neighbors'.
  4. Im a job recruiter, working from home. The biggest Elton John and Leonard Nimoy (funny pairing) you'll ever meet and recently 'met' both.  Ive got PCOS which means bad carbs send my sugars crazy but otherwise not overly affected by it.  Im a fan of indie and foreign films with tons already under my belt.

I am amazed at your work and progress. You have done an amazing job for your self. Keep up the great work.

Hello Everyone,

I recently moved to Dallas in Nov last year, At that time I was about 30 pounds over weight, me and my boyfriend decided to stop drinking pop and eating fast food, I has worked wonders but yet it is hard to loss that last little bit, i leveled off about march this year. My father was diagnosed with diabetes last month and was showing me how a lot of the things you like actually are bad for you when you would think they would not be. i sstarted counting calories on my own at that point and i have lost 4 lbs this month, i am amazed it works so well so fast, I try to keep my goal around 1600 a day so that i am not losing too fast, i recently got the Calorie king book, i am in love with it. It fits in my purse and is SOOO easy to figure things out. If I lose another 10 lbs i will be down to the weight i was in high school. Yeah!

About me: I am a pet nurse at a vet hospital in Frisco, i love it to death and cannot imagine working a job without animals, Christmas this year i bought my baby, he is a black and tan mini dachshund, i have been looking for one like him for a while now *about 4 years* he is just like me and loves to sleep a lot on my days off (we have a lot in common for that. We also have a frog we adopted two months ago.  I love video games and I am dating a video game nerd, he is actually going to school to create them.

Hi All,

Gotta say that I loved that honest post about loving to poop ... I mean who doesn't. The honesty killed me. If only the hot ex would have realized its true purpose/power ... honesty; geeze. So, I'm kind of a semi-frequent WoW ( if you don't know ... move along - these aren't the droids you're looking for ) player. Needless to say, MMORPG and staying fit aren't two things that go together well. For that matter, any nerdy stuff and fitness aren't generally associated. Of course, I've never really fit any traditional molds. In high school, I was a year-round jock who pulled down the physics award - whatever. Anyone can do anything if they apply themselves.

So a few years ago, I had a type III shoulder separation and decided ( as if I had a choice ) to lay off the weight room for a bit. Well, it's amazing how easy it is to just keep up the same routine. The couch called my name and I went to my master.

The shoulder healed, so I'm trying crawl out of the couch and back into a healthy physique. Ok, it's too soon to use a power word like that, but it gives me something to shoot for. That's right, a preposition at the end of a sentence - I live on the edge. English has way too many rools.

The run down ... I'm a 41 yo Aggie programmer in Frisco trying to lose 19lbs. Gotta get back down to 190 - just beyond reach of ideal max BMI. 185; I mean, who came up with that demonic scale anyway? Good luck all. In the words of Nancy and Nike, "Just say, 'Know I can do it.'" :-/ not a well-known quote.

btw, that pic is me in rl.

Overweight peeps in Texas?  No way!

I joined CC after I accidently found it on Google.  I've been overweight for about 30 years...sad I know.  But I didn't care about that until a few months ago when my blood test that showed my HDL, LDL, etc. out of wack.  So the doc says "you want drugs for this or do you want to eat right and exercise?"  I'm a cheap old man with no insurance so told him to give me 6 months and I'll fix it for free.  You can find me tooling around on my bike in Irving on the Campion Trails or walking at the park.  When I'm not stealing time from the boss by trolling the CC posts, I'm writing software and posing as a CEO.

I'm Tina I have been overweight all of my life pretty much. I have been on Calorie count for well over a year but sadly I am at a higher wt now then when I started. I am at 224 right now and I am starting fresh once again.

I live in Grand Prairie and work in Carrollton for a Ophthalmologist.

So mostly a desk job not much moving around. I am currently working on getting more exercise in and once again starting on my food intake.

Hello.

My name is Jef.

(group voice responds ---- "Hi, Jef")

I have just now, at the age of 38, decided that I need to lose a few pounds. The truth of it is that for about a year to a year and a half now, I have (literally) sat here and watched my weight go up. I am now at 223. I am 6'1" and work a desk job that has ZERO movement (literally AND figuratively). I have done many different jobs in my life - all of them fairly active. Now I work in IT in Frisco.

Can you say sit on your butt all day?

I just joined this group and hope to actually make some friends here. I think having people around that have similar goals would be very helpful.

I used to have quite the fur menagerie, but that was when I worked at an animal hospital. My favorites are cats and ferrets.

I hope to hear from some of you soon!

Well Hi Group!  Im Merri, live in Ft Worth, but being a visiting nurse, I drive all over the metroplex from west Fort Worth to Mesquite, and from Denton to Mayperl.  And I bet y'all have already figured out my problem.  Drive throughs. I have an adult son (barely an adult, he is on a BIG learning curve!), a psycho-kitty, a boyfriend in New Jersey who loves to feed me but is now dieting with me (we commute...1 month Im there, the next he's here.  Hmmm.....need to resolve this!).

I have always had a weight problem (although I look back on my childhood photos and ones in my teens and I wasn't really overweight.  What was I thinking?) but when I married, I packed on 150lbs in 17 years.  I was unhappy in the marriage, my life, just about everything.  So, I got divorced, sold everything I owned and moved to Holland....which didn't work out, but I lost 70lbs in the process! Given that the only way for me to get around was walking or biking, I was dropping weight like crazy.

I'm now working on the remaining weight, which at this time totals 110 pounds that I need to let go of.  I walk 2.5 miles daily, and have recently started bowling and tennis for fun and exercise.  Oddly, I have always been active, and at 5'1 and 304 lbs at my heaviest, I could still get around really well.

I came to this site because I was browsing for a specific calorie count of a food, and one thing lead to another and I found myself signed up and in here :) .  And I imagine that I will be here a lot.  I am determined!

Hola, Everyone!

1. I have been fighting this battle for over twenty years. I decided that I would spend the next 2 years removing the access weight and becoming healthier for my son. He is currently the joy of my life and I want to be able to experience life with him. Wilson is 10 months old.

2. Life with Calorie Count began about 1.5 years ago. I found it while searching for the calories to something I was eating. I signed up and it has made me more aware of my calorie intake.

3. Reason for joining this group: I need inspiration to fight this fight.

4. I am a stay at home mom with a drive to finish my education. I am currently attending SMU and I intend on graduating may 2010 with my M.Ed.

Hey to All!

I'm a divorced, 46 year old female living in W Ft Worth.  I have three wonderful daughters, 24, 23, and 13 (oopsie)  Innocent  and I am soon to be blessed with my 5th grandchild any day now.  I work for a medical billing company, I have a very possessive cat and a 8 month old black lab that seems to think he owns our neighborhood park.

This group was suggested on my home page and I thought it would be great to make friends with people near me.  I think that I joined CC in July of this year at the suggestion from one of my daughters.  I am 5'1" (I could be lying about that extra inch) and 202 lbs.  I began CC at 204, lost to 195 and today I'm back up again.  I have been over-weight most of my adult life and would love to see 130 again.

I KNOW that the majority of my weight is not from what I eat, it is because I do not get much exercise at all.  You know...desk job all day and couch potato all night.  I've set my alarm clock up earlier in the mornings thinking I would walk around the park with my dog before work but haven't done it yet.

Would love to make new friends here.  Hope to hear from you soon!

1. History with weight loss: From fat to slimmer, from average to "that suit used to fit me", and from frustrated and self medicated to earnest and self aware

2. History with Calorie Count: We just met back in April broke up after a week and are now having make-up-*** until we end up married.

3. Reason for joining this group: I have always gone on this journey with tons of ego and with out much support, I have some at home but figured more might be even better.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:Travel ALOT, executive officer of a national franchise company, have a son in Atlanta, a daughter in Charlotte, family in New Orleans, wife and two dog children in Dallas (Richardson area)

Tired of looking like a grown up version of "Chunk" from the Gooines, ready to get back closer to a body like "Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson post crazy wrestling days.

Howdy from Burleson
1. History with weight loss:  No history with loss.  Lots of history with gain.

2. History with Calorie Count: Oh, in and out for a couple of years.  I lurk around and think that I can do it, and then get tired of lurking and don't do it.

3. Reason for joining this group: I've GOT to get busy and get rid of some of this weight!  Maybe some of the DFW folks will know the best places to get fresh fruits/veggies... things to do that don't require feeding the face.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Wife for 23 years, mom of 4 grown kids who have created 9 grandkids.  Interests include but are not limited to gardening, swimming, fishing, grandkids, sewing, knitting, crocheting, grandkids, reading, ceramics, fly-tying, grandkids....

Not much there in the way of physical exercise.  Which is a BIG problem for weight loss!

Hello! My name is Kathy, and I've been a memeber of CC since March of 08. I had a baby in Sept of 07, and I think I honestly believed that when you're pregnant you really should "eat for two."  I put on close to 70 lbs when I was pregnant (only 20 where the actual baby, water, and placenta part), but before I was pregnant I had also put on the "freshman 15" in college. When I started CC I weighed in at about 180 and have lost 20 lbs since March, and I'm hoping to lose at least another 10 lbs by Nov.

I have been married for 2 years and have a one year old daughter.  I also have a fat ass cat and a nervous dobie, who actually used to run from the cat.  I'm a stay at home mom and I enjoy every minute. I recently started back up at the gym, this time seriously (every day).  I was fit most of my life until my last year of college.

I joined this group because it was suggested... I'm glad to see so many people with a sense of humor on here, what a relief!

Good morning!   I have been a member of CC about  1.5 years.  I started at 172# (I'm 5'1") and now am 130#-- My goal is 119 ( can we ever reach these goals?)   In addition to weight loss I quit a 20 year pack a day cigarette habit, and 4 months ago started exercising and now do triathlons ( short ones).

Overall I feel like a success story and want all those out there to know that it wasn't the exercise that helped me lose wt, but counting calories and eating healthy.   My husband also lost 35# and is at his goal wt.  Both of us credit our changes to this website as well as "Cooking Light" recipes which I use exclusively now for dinner --

I was dedicated to being unhealthy for 40 years and still managed this- you can too!

Hey guys!  Here I am 39 still thinking I have a metabolism of being 28 again!!!  Never mind the fact that I have had two more kids since then!!!  Geez!  Whatever!  I think I have actually realized that it is actually going to take more effort to keep the weight down now, so that is a reason why I joined CC.  I actually started last year and did really good, but then backed off for a while and during this summer and picking up cooking skills, I have gained at least 10lbs back and am now back to 160!!!  ARGGGHHH!!!!  My goal is to get down to 135 by April!  Another reason of rejoining CC is that I cannot stand the fact that I almost weigh as much as my boyfriend!  OMG!  That is soooo not gonna happen!!!

Anyway, mom of four kids, two of which are teenagers, and a very active 9 year old, and a VERY, VERY BUSYBODY of a 2 year old.  I have a HUGE cat who does nothing but sleeps and eats all day and I have also put her on a diet as I cannot tell where her body and head meet. I also have a boyfriend who I've been with for 3 years now and oh! My teenage kids think they are ROCKSTARS cuz they are in a rock band!  Well, actually, they are Rockstars!  My son can sing Dave Mustane from Megadeth like nobodies business and my daughter??  Well.... She is the next amy lee from Evanesence!!!!

So, anyway, gotta look good in my 80's getup (AGAIN) when I go see them play at the clubs!  (Just kidding about the 80's getup)  But I do have to look good when I am out with them!!! LOL...

C yall! Tongue out
