And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hi! I'm Jen. (I don't have a recent pic, the one online is me before my recent weight gain) I am a 33 year old mom with three boys (12,13,16). I had been a member of calorie count several months ago and it helped me to lose about 15lbs. Unfortunately, I stopped counting calories and before I knew it I had regained the 15lbs plus about 15 more.
I have always been heavy for my size. I am 5'2" and have never been a normal weight. Mind you I am not extremely heavy, but I have always been 30-50lbs over my ideal weight. I would really like to see what I would look like at the correct weight for my height.
I have recently had a bad breakup and this is a large source of my weight gain. I use food to comfort myself and that ALWAYS makes it worse. Now all of my clothes are skin tight and I feel uglier than ever, but I know I can bounce back and I am so ready to do so.
I am new to the Dallas area and interested in finding things to do. So, if you know of anything happening in the area, or just want to chat, drop me a line!!
Best of luck in your journeys as well!!
I'm a 34 yr old Geologist working and living in Fort Worth. My husband and I have 3 sons, 8 yrs, 6yrs and 6 months old. I haven't been doing much to control my weight since Boy #3's birth and it got out of hand over the holidays (which I'm of the opinion should be enjoyed to the fullest!). My husband and I are both starting a workout regimen that includes exercising, limiting calories and just watching what goes in. I've just joined Calorie Count for the first time today.
Hi Everyone,
I took the typical New Year resolution of losing a little belly and being able to run a little further. Over all I have about 15lb. to lose. I am 28 yr old single father with a very active 7 yr old boy. We do a ton of outdoor activities together and I am always preaching to him to stay active. I figured instead of being a hypocrit, I should set an example. We swim laps in a pool in Plano nightly and have started a strict diet. Hope everything works.........
1. History with weight loss: I've always felt like I needed to lose weight (if ONLY I could now be my high school weight - what was I whining about?). My doctor actually thinks my health habits are not in line with what I weigh and is testing my thyroid (as of Monday, Jan 5).
2. History with Calorie Count: I found calorie count while trying to figure out how many calories are in seedless grapes :)
3. Reason for joining this group: My job is actually in Dallas, and though I won't be there until about a year from now (training in Austin) I wanted to join a regional group more in the area I plan to settle down in.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am blessed to be doing my dream job. My family lives in Texas, while I myself am a single 30 yr old. I have a Quaker parrot and a Pueblan milksnake.
Hi my name is Lisa and I live in Frisco TX....new to this web page and looking to see what's out there. I have been tryign to learn to eat healthier than before. I loved fried foods and all...the reason why i am trying to eat better is because of my cholesterol was very high for my age and the doc said either go on meds or change my eating habits. So now at 32...exercising and eating better. I have lost weight when I kicked it into high geer. I was 150 back in 2006 now I am 135..lokking to be about 130. So it's been slowly coming off. I do this exercise program called Boot Camp in plano. Been doing it for about 4+ years and love it. Keeps me in shape. Now this year I am working on running marathons. The most i have ran was 15k..now looking for the 1/2 marathons. Wish me luck!!![]()

I think Texans face some particular challenges with weight and fitness in general because our local culture and structure revolves around eating and is not terribly pedestrian-friendly.
I agree!
Hi ya'll, my name is Rachel, and I'm from Arlington.
1: I never had to worry about it too much, until I had kids. Before then, I was 120lbs, too skinny, and 17. Now I'm 22, 174, and trying to get to a healthy weight. I've yo-yo'd a couple of times.
2: I've been on calorie count before. I've also tried weight watchers and the south beach diet, both of which are just too expensive for me.
3: I want to lose the right way, and it's free! Online food logs and forums inspire, motivate, and help me quite a bit.
4: I've been married for 5 years (we've beat the odds, bieng this young!) and have two boys, 2 and 4. We used to have a dog, Jack, who passed not too long ago from liver cancer
and a cat, Pandora, who ran away because my husband terrorized her. He doesn't like cats. I work as a teller at a credit union, which means my lifestyle is pretty sedentary. By the time I get home, make dinner, bathe the kids and put them to bed, I'm too exhausted to go running. My husband was recently laid off so now that he's home in the mornings, I can go running when I wake up. We like to go out to eat every so often, only problem is, he always picks a chinese buffet! I read alot, and make beaded jewelry. I have tons of great friends who like to drink, and we love going to the lake in the summer. Cant wait to reach my goal! Wish me luck!
Hi, I'm Phyllis. I live in Bedford. I'm an RN in a major hospital. I'm 52 and have spent the last 15 years with my weight going up and down, and I'm at 175 now and only 5'4"! I'm a little butterball!. I was always the person everyone envied because I could eat anything and not gain weight.....well, I hit 45 and my habits didn't change but my metabolism did!!!! I'm been on this site in the past and bombed (my own fault). Having to account for my caloric intake on this site is a major plus for me.....I would only be lying to myself if I cheated. With my nursing knowledge, I know all the fad diets don't work....it takes calorie counting and moving your body to get fit and healthy. I know that it takes a change in eating habits and portions, not special foods, to have lasting weight loss. I joined this group to meet people in my area who are trying to get healty and fit as well. Positive feedback is unmeasurable.
ok..so my name's Julie, and I heard about this website from a friend at work . We have both decided we're SICK of this extra weight!! So we have been eating healthier and walking during our lunch break. ANyway, some history on me....I was pushing 200 pounds after nursing school...lost down to 148, and did for a while, but 30 lbs have "snuck" back on( LOL). I am determined to lose this 30 again, and feel comfortable in my skin. So far, I definately have noticed that it has been harder this time, I think because I am 35 now.
Denise here with a report of 100 lb wt. loss, only to regain 35. I am a nurse in the DFW area, hoping to find people wanting to challenge each other to wt. loss competition. Type A personality trait {competitve}. Have only faith and good wishes for all who are currently challenging themselves to lead healthier lifestyles. I am in my early 40's and really have to ramp up my metabolism to burn up the calories.
I wonder if there is a connection to nursing and wt. gain? Personally I often find myself taking care of everyone but myself.
Nice to meet you,
My bio is in here earlier, but I'm 41 and the pounds flew off with good eating. I've been close to my ideal weight for a year, but stilll log onto this website daily to keep track of the calories-- My husband stopped after he reached his goal and gained 7 lbs back pretty easily. ( now he's losing well again)
I'd love to get together at a (coffee? fruit drink?) shop someday for anyone who wants to meet in real life-- any takers?
Hi, my name is Michael. I just turned 32. I gained 100 pounds during my marriage. You know you get comfortable in a good relationship and they just found their way onto me. Didn't help my wife was big too. She had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago and lost a lot of weight. Of course, when she lost the weight, she left me. My goal is to lose 130 pounds. I used to run/walk marathons; i'd like to get back to doing those again. My kids are grown so it's just me. I have two full time jobs and they keep me busy. This will be more of a support system for me. Thanks
Hi. I've been a resident of Dallas for a few years. I joined this site about a year ago, then didn't come back to it until recently. I've been gaining weight steadily for the last 4 years. I am now going to commit to making true changes to lose the weight. I have gotten used to working too much and having little time for anything else, but realize I need to make time for myself. I am hoping to find some support and inspiration here, by seeing others succeed and learning how.
If anyone is interested in starting up a weekend walking (or other type fitness) group in the Dallas area, let me know. The ones I have found meet before the sun comes up and, I just can't do that :)
I wish you all the best of luck with your health endeavors.
hi all....this post is to introduce myself and share my first commitment to the promise i have made to myself to lose 34 pounds.......began my journey 4 years agao and took off 55 pounds which i have kept off...its time to make the next step and get to my ideal weight in order to be my most fit and healthy self......i will be 60 in august and would love to post a smoking hot success picture of myself on that day......i appreciate all accountability and support and promise to return the same.........look forward to this journey......ps...i live in the up town area and am looking for a female (as i am) racketball partner for some calorie burning exercise (have court, extra racket and goggles).....will teach anyone serious about learning.....llooking foward to reaching my goal with you all and cheering for you with each milestone......
Hi all!
My name is Catherine. I have played around on cc for a while now but it's time to get serious. My main reason for this aside from losing weight is I want to quit smoking and I know getting into the habit of regular exercise will help with that. I do need to lose weight. I currently weigh 212 and I am 5'11". I don't have any lofty goals about losing weight just want to feel good and kick this terrible addiction to nic. I live with my boyfriend who is awesome. I am going to meet his family in june and I'm very nervous about this I would like to get down to at least 200 before we go although 190 would be awesome, I just don't think that's a reasonable goal . I started using the "personal trainer" game for the wii. It's pretty cool so far but have only been using it for a few days. So we'll see how that goes.
Hi, I just joined last week and have become very concious of what I am eating finally. I am probably the oldest one here at 63 and have tried every diet out there over the years but never the basic counting calories. I saw the web site mentioned in a magazine article and started exploring it. I retired 2 years ago and we moved to an active adult community. I get lots of fun excercise but we also eat all the time - pot luck dinners, bridge dinners, out to dinner - you get the idea. I currently weigh 175 on a 5'0 frame. I am hoping this system will keep me focused on what I am eating and how much.
Hi, I'm a young woman whos about to enter a work force where being thin and fit is everything. But more than anything I'm doing this for myself. I'm so excited to start dropping the pounds and feel better about my body. I haven't had any kids and I'm not over weight, just simply trying to be healthier.
1. I was a ballet dancer for 14 years of my life and once I stopped dancing I quickly discovered eating and put on a good 40 pounds in 3 years. I dont ever want to go back to my dietary habbits that I was when I danced but I would like to get more into shape then I currently am.
2. I was introduced to Calorie Count by my Health teacher in High School and have always wanted to really do it and NOW I am.
3. I've pretty much gone over my reasons for joining this group.
4. I leave for a 3 month tour in June all across America where I will be working and promoting bands for a record company called Fueled By Ramen. I am so excited to have landed this job, music is my life and being able to get paid for being around it is all I could ask for. I have a lovely, supportive, diverse family. And I'm not a pet person?
Hi, I'm Carin. I'm a 30 yo working mom of 2 boys and married for 9.5 years. I've always been athletic, but since a death in the family in December, I've been struggling with 20 extra pounds. I've lost anywhere from 8-11 pounds, just to have them back within a week or two.
I've been with Calorie Count for about a year, but just since March, I've been dedicated to using it. I've been in the Dallas area all my life, but with few like-minded friends close by, I joined this group for more support.
I love sports and would love to actually run the 5K Komen or MS charity run/walks that I do. I also have a 8 hr./day desk job, which actually keeps me motivated to run everyday so I can fight the inactivity I have during the day. I also have a Golden Retriever who used to walk or run with me until recently. She just can't do it anymore. :( I also love to scrapbook, photography, and I'm dabbling in graphic design right now. I love to go to the lake in the summer and take mini weekend road trips.
Hoping a group will help. Good luck to all!
Hi, my name is Julie and I live in Denton, about 25 miles north of D/FW. I'm 55, happily married for 25 years (in June), and have 3 elderly cats. I work for the City of Denton, and manage the downtown economic development program.
My husband and I are avid (not good, just avid) golfers. We play a couple of times a week and usually walk the course. We've joined a new LA Fitness, but they're having some construction woes and are behind schedule. They were supposed to open in April; now it doesn't look like they will be operating until sometime in June.
I've been off and on Weight Watchers for years. I've reached my goal several times, but always gain some of it back. At this point, I'm 10-12 pounds over my WW goal. This morning, the city offered a metacheck test to see what my resting energy expenditure is--it was interesting. My REE is slightly above average for a middle aged, short female. I've counted carbs, points, and food exchanges, but have never counted calories. I ended up here to see how many calories I've consumed so far today.
This group was suggested when I signed up--just one more thing to keep up with ![]()
