My name's Jen

1. History with weight loss: Lost some weight when I moved to the Silver Spring area from Baltimore City. Went from 125 to 110 to 182. Trying to reverse the weight gaining trend, find some help for my eating disorder.
2. History with Calorie Count: Joined it a long time ago, but never really used it. Used it, got obsessed, lost 5 pounds. Then, I dropped off and gained it all back and then some.
3. Reason for joining this group: Live in DC.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Am a student in DC metropolitan area, work for a political org (not surprising), moved here 4 years ago and I love it!

I'm Amy. Since I finally have a picture I will say who I am too.

1. History with weight loss: I always thought I was fat even when I weighed 115 in college. I'm 5'3'. My family curse is the "Blough Butt." We have big butts and legs. I gained weight while trying for 4 years to conceive. 2 adoptions and 85 pounds later I got pregnant and had a son. That was 1987. In 1990 & 1991 I followed the Rotation Diet and made it down to 130. Work stress and kid stress took over and I gained it all back and more. In 2002 I lost 50 lbs. without trying. I had undiagnosed Grave's Disease. After RAI treatment I began once again to gain weight. I went through a hostile divorce and gained until I reached around 250 last fall. I don't really know how much I weighed because I refused to weigh myself until I had been dieting for for 2 weeks. I'm now at 205.

2. History with Calorie Count: I stumbled onto CC in July when I was searching for a different food recording program. I was using FitDay successfully but wanted something with more foods in the database. The Community section is an added bonus!

3. Reason for joining this group: I heard hk was cute...

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am an income tax professional. My business, The Tax Ladies, is located in Owego, NY. I spend Tax Season in the north working as well as 1 week a month. I'm looking forward to my partner buying me out next year.

I have 3 kids, all grown. 2 are Korean adoptees. They live in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Bloomington, IN. I live in a townhouse in Rockville with my bf who is an NIH Scientist. We have a koi pond in the backyard with 8 big fishies. My Himalayan kitty cat travels back and forth to NY with me where she is my office cat.

I like reading, water aerobics and chocolate! Especially chocolate!

Nice to meet you, Amy!  I hope you can come to some of the meet-ups we have.  :)

So, this looks like a fun bunch of people.  I joined CC today after googling calorie counters.  I've struggled with my weight for pretty much my whole life.  I have found that unless I'm seriously dieting, I tend to gain weight, so I have been on some sort of diet for most of my life.  Since high school, I have fluctuated about 20-25 pounds back and forth.  I was at my lightest my junior year of college, when I was ballroom dancing 10 hours a week, walking to campus, waiting tables in 8 hour shifts, and forgetting to eat because 17 credits and 32 hour work-weeks made me too busy and too tired.  Good times.  :) I moved to DC about a year ago, after 4 months of pretty low activity due to a bad case of mono.  Starting a desk job didn't help things, despite the 2 miles I was walking for my commute.

I decided to join this group because you all seriously seem like a bunch of fun, and the fact that there are at least a couple of ballroom dancers here.

I love to read, public policy is a passion and my career choice.  I love dancing, eating (surprise!), and singing.  I have done some community theater in the area, and plan to continue, because it's just so fun!  I hope to be able to make it to some of these meet-ups.

1.  I am actually trying to gain weight.  I've been underweight all of my life and I just want to get in my healthy weight range.  I weigh 113 right now and would like to get to 120 lbs.

2.  I actually joined calorie count before but I forgot my password and realized that my email was spelled wrong in the system for me to get a new password, so I created a new account as of Monday.

3.  I joined this group because I live in the DMV and thought it would be nice to meet people in this area.

4.  I am a structural engineer.  I am 25.  I like finance, reading, and cooking.

Engineers Rule ;D
And I'm not just saying that cause I'm an Environmental Engineer ;D

Welcome, everyone. :)

Welcome everyone!  Woooooooot!  Come join us for bowling this month!  :)

Hello to all, I'm not new to WDC, infact i'm a native and was raised since age 6, in neiboring Prince Geoges County.   I am a single mother...early 30's of 2 beautiful boys.  I decided to join CC to keep track of my food intake since handwriting every detail of a meal in a food journal is mind numbing to me...albiet i lost over 47lbs about 6 years ago implementing this very method.

CC is so far, is much more easy to use and accessible.....two big brownie points for me considering my days are spent working 8 hours in a sendentary job... and nights... keeping up with 2 very active boys.  With all this, i do manage to get 8 hours of sleep daily which is a major factor in helping me manage stress!

I also deciede on Nov .1 2008  , that it was time for me to take seriously the issues surrounding my health.  My very best friend (baby sis) was recently diagnosed with uterine cancer...she's only 28.  The very though of  forever was shaken by this shock of reality  and it has facilitated a very long disucssion with myself about what i need to take seriously in my life.  Health being #1.

Currently, i would like to lose 60lbs.  On my 5'11" frame, I'd look like Tyra Banks again :).  Anyways, i'm not in this for vanity's sake, but my health's sake.  With Diabetes, heart disease, gout, arthritis, and thyroid issues plauging my family both maternal and paternal sides, eating healthier and excersicing truly is the key to practicing preventive health.

Other intersting things about me... i love any activity that's outdoors, i dont watch TV much, i love to read, write, and volunteer and I've never owned any pets....oh, and i LOVE a great party!!

Welcome, Marcia!!!  You would love the meet-ups we have!  :)  They are a lot of fun.  :)  I just lost my sister to breast cancer in mid-August, so I do understand the push for health, and the thought of forever being shaken.  I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors!  :)

Hello All, I'm Andrea...I guess I'll start by answering the set of questions above.

1. History with weight loss: I started being weight conscious about 5-6 years ago because I notice I gained about 15-20 pounds over that course of time. I've been on WW to fad diets and back to piggin' out.  I never could get myself motivated to keep on any type of weight lost program.  So I stumbled across CC while Goggling Weight lost method's...

2. History with Calorie Count: Today is my first day on CC and I already turned my mother on to the site.  I love the format and it seem easy enough to use, effectively. So I look forward to meeting some of the people on this forum.

3. Reason for joining this group: I'm a DC native...born and raised. I love my city and always willing to support anyone in it.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm married with no children, yet.  I have a dog that I call my son...love him to death.  I like to hang out with friends and enjoy my weekends sense I work a full exhausting work week. I work in the "Common Wealth" area of VA.  30 min by metro from DC.

I don't have much history with weight-loss.  I would put some weight on during school and take some off during the summer when I was working construction or at a summer camp, but it was never very intentional and I never got really heavy.

...then I got a real job and 40 lbs later...

I just found Calorie Count since I mostly cook for myself I needed some way to identify the calories I am getting that don't come marked for me already.

We are doing Biggest Loser at work and I am going to be putting real money in.  I'm aiming for 2 lbs a week for the next 15 weeks...maybe enough to win and certainly a good start towards beach season.

I am a swing dancer (I saw some old posts) especially and a ballroom dancer in general (though rusty) so anyone who is interested let me know.  I have swing connections and I'm always glad to make some new ones.

Also, I am a student pilot...a lot of fun.

I'm thinking about trying to train for a triathlon again.  I love cycling and am okay at running but I only have about 200 yards of freestyle before drowning becomes a serious concern.

I have a cat of my  own and two semi-permanent loaners.

Anyone out there in Loudoun County?

Welcome!!

I bought a bike recently and would be very interested in a ride if you're up for organizing it. I haven't got around to riding by myself.

I live in DC proper but there must be some other members near you.

Good luck with the Biggest Loser. We're doing it at my work place too...it's motivating.

Oh, I would also be interested in the dancing. Keep me posted.

Hello All!,

I was always the fat kid growing up but in 2002 I had gastric bypass surgery and since have had two children. It's been two years since my youngest was born and I now weigh 202lbs, up from my 'resting' point of 188lbs. Needless to say, I don't want to get back up to my original weight of 310lbs so I joined CC. I've been on CC for a week now and it's bee rough! I look forward to chatting with you all and getting workout and weight loss tips!

Hey Everybody!

1. History with weight loss:   I've always been what the latest saleswoman called "thick", but in my mid-twenties, I went to grad school at night and really began packing on the pounds.  Amazing how dinner at McDonald's every night at 11:00 will do that to a person.  But I told myself that once I graduated, I'd go back to my active lifestyle and the pounds would go away.  Well, I graduated almost 5 years ago and the pounds have continued to multiply.  I never did go back to the active lifestyle I had before and the end result is that I haven't seen the other side of 200 lbs. in quite some time.  I'm at about 225 now and cringe at the very thought of going shopping for clothes.
2. History with Calorie Count:  I found CC a while ago and lost about 20 lbs by simply keeping the food journal.  Then I stopped and so did the weight loss.  It quickly reversed itself.  So I'm back and fully committed to staying on for the long haul.
3. Reason for joining this group:  I'm looking for support anywhere I can find it these days.  I've lived in DC off and on all of my life and love to meet (even if only virtually) new people.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:  I absolutely and totally love my job.  I work for a non-profit, providing general financial and retireme nt planning to our association members in rural America.  If anyone has complaints about the local weather, let me tell you that I just got back from Minnesota and was informed today that I'll be visiting North Dakota in February and no doubt, there'll be a trip to Texas in August.  I never complain about local weather anymore!  I'm an only child and really close to my mom.  She battled breast cancer in 2007 and the first half of 2008, so I've focussed a lot of my energy on being there for her when needed.  No pets, but a few good friends and a bunch of happy hour partners.  And I've recently taken up sewing, but not sure how long this newest hobby of mine will last.

Walkingwiki here...

1. History with weight loss: More like history with weight gain... there's no loss about it. However that is going to change this year.

2. History with Calorie Count: Joined today for the first time

3. Reason for joining this group: Shooting for around 90lbs in the next 18 months and have only been in DC for about 2.5 years. Interested in people in the area going through the same situation.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a geek, that likes video games and reading. Which lends itself to sedentary lifestyle, so trying to find other active pursuits.

Welcome to the group!  We have get togethers from time to time, so that would be one activity.  :)  I hope you enjoy your stay on Calorie Count.  :)

1. History with weight loss:

Ive yo-yoed FOREVER.  I go into detail about my history in my first journal entry so check there for details but the short story is this: first diet at 8 ys old. always been at least 2 sizes to big.  tried every diet and diet pill out there, had more failures than wins.  currently on South Beach Diet, (im a carb addict and this plan really helps my cravings) 5'8, 185 at the start, 179.6 today (whoot!) and goal of 140-150.

2. History with Calorie Count:

I literally joined today- i found it googling about falling off the wagon on SBD and landed on someones profile!  I am glad I did, I need this type of community and support.

3. Reason for joining this group:

just to be connected with others in my area to share tips and ideas, good places to work out/exercise, restaurant tips, anything encouraging!

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:

I work in communications.  I am very involved with overseas work and have been on 6 international mission trip ranging from construction of schools to medical to ESOL you name it.  I love other cultures and meeting people who are different than me.  I also love music! I am married, no kids, no pets.  Live in the Tysons/McLean/Vienna area

Hi, I live in DC - was born here but raised in Maryland. I'm a mom of 3 (the youngest 2); I was always slim until I had my first child. I was a size 6/8 and then, I had my 10 yr old and swelled 100 pounds, then the second - 35 more. With my last, I've been 'pretty good. Largest size has been 20. I'm a tight 16 -mostly 18. I am very depressed at this weight. I managed to lose inches in the waist when I started working out last fall but work has been so busy, working late nights. I can't find the time betw. late night mtgs, homework with the kids, preparing dinner, putting kids to sleep and so on, so forth.

I just started Calorie Count because of my friend - she suggested this as an option to Weight Watchers. I used the program and liked it, that was also part of my fall weight loss but I don't have the funds to keep on that.I would like to go back to Weight watchers but will try this.

I manage a very small non-profit and am usually busy with back to back "kid stuff." My kids always ask me when I'm going to lose weight. I hate to see my self in pictures and often go to sleep thinking about the day I lose the weight and look thin.

Hi. I live in Dale City.

My history with weight loss: Well untill a few years ago I would manage it using dieting pills and etc. However, now I have a thyroid disorder and am on daily meds that has proven to become toxic if mixed with dieting pills. So, I let my self just go. Im about 40/50 lbs over weight. UGH! Sealed

Calorie counting.. I've just begun that.  So far..4 days and going ok. This site seems to be very helpful.  I do NOT like exercising in front of other people, so the wii fit was a perfect solution.

I joined this group because I live in the N. Virginia area. It's difficult to talk to my husband about my dieting and feeling fat.  So, i'm looking for others in the same type of position. Group counseling with out having to pay for it. Wink

I dont work. I'm a stay at home housewife. I'm thinking about going back to work though.  My family is great. Husband, son, dogs and turtles. I have 3 older children who have grown and moved away Cry

I have lots of interests. I love being outside in the spring and summer. I tend to hide because of the discomfort around people being over weight.  So, my current interest is fixing that. Foot in mouth
