Welcome to you all!  :)  I hear ya about the cost of WW.  I'm in WW now, and on here.

And shoot!  If you are a housewife, that IS work!

When the weather isn't so dicy, we have fairly regular get togethers.  :)  I hope y'all can join us when those rev up again.  The big one is in June this year, but we will meet up before then, I feel sure.

Hi to all...my name is Krystal & I moved to the D.C area last March, compliments of the military =]

I decided to join this group because I've been dealing with major depression for 3 years now & hope maybe there were support groups in the area that I could attend. Last July I gained 30 lbs in just two weeks & haven't been able to lose a pound of it....I'm here to get my life back & lose weight in a healthy way.

I don't really have a history with weight loss since it neverwas a problem. Mostly I think medication caused me to gain weight & lack of exercise.

I've been on Calorie Count before, I was on it when I was deployed in Iraq in 2006 for motivation since I was actively working out and wanted to make sure I got all the tips & tricks on how to exercise properly. & it helped very much. But when I returned to the states, I started to eat takeout all the time & didn't keep up my workout routines.

I joined this group because I wanted to find more people out there, like me, that can help support me & whom I can support too.

Lastly, details of myself can be found on my profile. Thanks for all being here!

Hey yall! I'm Julie from Louisiana, but I'm a student in Washington, DC. I'll be in DC at least through college and possibly after for a couple of years.

1. History with weight loss: I'm currently at 140lbs (I'm 5'6") but would like to get down to 130lbs. I'm training for my first triathlon in May! Super excited!

2. History with Calorie Count: Been a member for about a year

3. Reason for joining this group: I'm a sophomore at Georgetown University, and I love the city! I'm also interested in finding good bike paths and running paths in DC.

4. Some interesting details about yourself: I'm not too interesting...I like to be active, and I love music! I play the piano at church and I'm in two acapella groups at Georgetown.

Hey, Julie!  Welcome!  There is one site that I know of where you can map out your own run, and it gives you your mileage.  It's mapmyrun.com

I'd find a running buddy for the running paths in and around DC.  Just a suggestion.  :)

Hi Mason (and ALL the other newbies), welcome to the group!

Kristine and I are planning a meetup soon for the DC CC members!

Hi, all.  My hubby and I live in Gaithersburg, MD and just started a weight loss/fitness plan. I'm finding this website to be the easiest of anything I have tried so far (to keep track of what I am eating). That's great, too, because I am not one who likes to record things on paper.  I'm looking forward to reading posts and getting to know others.  I've lost 17 lbs in 2 months on a commercial weight loss plan, but I found that the sodium in their food was excessive for me, so I am now doing "my own thing."  I'm 53 and as I get older, it's harder and harder to get the weight off (and probably to keep it off).  Happy posting and weight loss!

Welcome, Suzy!!!  I'm glad you are getting a lot out of this site!  Logging is very helpful.  I use the journal a LOT, but set it to private on most days.  There is a daily thread in the lounge forum where people visit throughout the day and just get plain silly.

Enjoy!

How do I make sure it is set to private? I guess I thought it was somehat private, as I have to log in to get my own info.  Maybe not?  I had some tough food choices to make this Easter weekend, and I think I did OK, not great, but OK.  I went over my calorie count of 1200, but my food choices weren't so bad considering sodium and carbs, etc.  Thanks for your help! --SuzyB

The groups are public.  Your journal can be set to Friends Only (private), or you can make it even more private than that by selecting one or two or zero people and making a VIP setting for your journal.  Hope this helps.  :)

Geetings All!

I live in Southern Maryland and work for a law firm in DC.

Working to stay healthy into my golden years so looking forward to using this site to learn some weight management tools. My health is great now and want to keep it that way so I know I have to drop some pounds to prevent any future problems.

Thought it was great when I came across a group for the DC area to share with. With the weather turning warmer I'm looking forward to any activities with the group.

Look forward to meeting the group,

Brenda

Awesome, Brenda!  We are planning a meet-up in late June in DC.  It will either be the 20th or the 27th.  That is yet to be determined.  It should be great fun, though!  Welcome to the group.  :)

Great I look forward to hearing more about the June meet-up in DC!

Develop a forgiving attitude...most people are doing the best they can.

Thanks for your help!  I am finding this web site the most helpful of ANY I have been to.  I have tried so many other things.  I am currently doing Jenny Craig (not quite the full menu, though).  This website is keeping me on track.  I have lost 25 lbs so far.  About 70 more to go.

Just a heads-up to the newbies/lurkers:

Sat, June 20th

10:30am - Smithsonian Metro Stop.

10:45 - 12:30 - Museum of the American Indian

12:30 - 2pm - Lunch

2:30 - Museum of American History

We can always leave it open to do something else at the mall, mosey to dinner and then a bar if people are up for it...

Hi!  I live in Southern Maryland for the past 14 years; however, I'm a one year recall with the Navy and work in Crystal City.  I'm 40 years old.

My history with weight loss has been pretty good.  I'm 5'9 so I am pretty tall.  My highest weight was 208 which was after I gave birth to my daugher, who will be 15 next month.  I got down to my pre-pregnancy weight of 178 but still struggled so I ended up joining weight watchers.  I lost 40 pounds with weight watchers so it worked!  I kept it off for about 5 years but as time went on it started coming back little by little and got back up to 168.  Then I tried South Beach and I lost about 15 pounds and now I've put on about 10 of that.

Currently, I'm not overweight, I weigh 159 now.  I want to lose about 15 or so pounds.  I would be happy with 10.  I know that those 10 pounds can be a bear though which is why I was looking for something a little more structured and came across this really cool "FREE" website!

I'm in the Navy so fitness is a fact of life for me. I'm an avid running and I really do enjoy working out.  I signed up for the Marine Corp Marathon - actually it is the second time I signed up - I signed up last year but my training schedule got of whack and I did not do it.  This year I hope I can get my training done so I can I particpate and not "wimp" out! HA!

I look forward to meeting everyone!

Hi Chris, and welcome!  Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to your post.  Things have been a little crazy here lately.  We are having a meet up on June 20th.  The details are just above your post.  Would love to see you there!  :)

I'm glad you found the site and this group.  Again, welcome!  :)

I work full time, school full time and take care of my son fulltime.  Trying to make room for myself and shed these pounds.  I want to do it in threemonths.

Hello and welcome!!!  Good luck with the weight loss goal!  Just make sure you are doing it with a healthy diet.  With a healthy diet, you can lose around 2 pounds a week safely.

We are having a meet-up this Saturday, if you would like to join us, that would be great!  :)  We're meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Smithsonian Metro Stop.  It should prove to be a fun day!  :)

Hello everyone,

My name is John and I joined this group in hopes of finding some encouragement and some tips to help me along my journey. Also since this is a local group maybe finding some local places to eat that provide healthy options and maybe even some activity partners to remain active and lose some weight.

It is hard to say that I have a history with weight loss because my whole life it seems it has gone the other way :) In all honestly I have never paid much attention to my weight because I knew I was fat and I did not need a scale to tell me how fat I was. About a year ago I decided I had enough and I wanted to change my lifestyle and eating habits. I got involved in a softball team and joined a bowling league. I am not saying that those are great xercises, but they get me off my butt and being active. Last fall I joined a gym and I was going 3-4 times a week and doing very good, for the first time in a long time I could get on a scale and actually register a weight (the scale went up to 350lbs). Then life got in the way, I took a few trips and got out of the habit of exercising and just let the gym membership expire.

This spring my sister came to visit and she motivated me to get back to changing my life. She has done it through healthy eating and just being active (no real workout routine other than walking everyday). It is great having her to talk to and encourage me and share tips that she has learned along the way of making healthy choices on food. I decided the approach I needed to take was to focus primarily on changing my diet to be more aware of what I eat and how much food I take in. Secondly I try to remain active with activities that I enjoy, bowling, softball, hiking, golf (I actually walk the course), disc golf, anything else that strikes my fancy. In addition I have started walking more whenever possible, like walking to the shopping center a mile from my place instead of driving (or anything in that vicinity). walking when I am downtown instead of taking the train, etc. I have also started going to the gym at work to compensate for times when I can not get out because of the weather or any other reason. Since my sister's visit I have actually bought a scale and weigh myself regularly and since May 17th I have seen my weight drop from 335.8 lbs to 318.4 lbs!

To help me with my diet I downloaded a program to my iPhone called LoseIt, and it has been great helping me pay attention to what I eat and make better decision on what I eat. It did not take me long to realize fruits and veggies are my friends :). I found calorie count by running searches for nutritional info and quickly found this site is a great source of information and it basically is similar to the LoseIt program I use on my phone.

I guess for now I have taken enough of your time, but if you want to know anything else just ask me in here or via PM. I look forward to getting to know everyone.
