Hi there,

I thought I already posted here, but I must have forgot a step. Embarassed

1. History with weight loss:I've been heavy all my life, by the time I was in high school I managed to get up to 310lbs. Over the years I've lost around 100 lbs., a little at a time here and there. Now I'm 218 and would really like to be under 200 for a change.

2. History with Calorie Count: I just joined and I really like having people to talk to who know what I'm going through.
3. Reason for joining this group:  mostly for support
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm recently married and I'm still trying to figure out how to manage my time so that I can get to the gym (I'm not a morning person).  Smile

Hello Angylbear7!  Welcome to the group!

Hi My name is Ann Marie. I have lived in Philadelphia for ten years. I have two adult children and two grandchildren. I am trying to lose 30 pounds. i have started walking. I live in the Bridge and Pratt area of the city. I would love to have a walking buddy. if you are close to me let me know. Thank You

Hello Ann Marie! Welcome to the group!

Hey everyone! I'm Steph. =] I'm a 21 year old lady living in a little place called Hatboro in Montgomery County. I'm here for the same reason as everyone else, weight loss with support!

1) I've been overweight mostly my whole life. It really started around age 10 when I had moved away from my old neighborhood. It's been a curse ever since! My peak weight in highschool was about 220 pounds.... after highschool I had lost twenty pounds, and now I've got it back and I feel like there's more to come if I don't start trying to lose it now!

2) I have yet to build a history with Calorie Count. =]

3) I joined this group to mainly find the support and motivation that I'm lacking... even a diet/workout buddy (even if it's just e-buds!). I don't really have anyone to talk to about my conquest, so I figured I'd start here.

4) As far as interesting details go, not a lot going on there. I've been on my own since I was 17. I have nothing going well in my life right now on behalf of the fact that I'm as broke as anything. I work 3 nights a week at an Italian restaurant. I have 2 cats, 14 hermit crabs, and an annoying bird. I figured if I'm going to be with nothing, I might as well look good while doing it. Haha.

P.S. My biggest weakness is coffee and sweet things.

Hola Cool,

I'm Krissy, I am 19yrs old.  Being a cheerleader for most of my life helped keep me in shape for a while but even then I've always been on the border line of "healthy weight".  Nearly three years ago I was in a car accident that broke my femur literally in two.  It took forever for it to heal and from time to time I still have issues with it.  Needless to say, the accident ended my cheerleading career and kept me off of my feet for months!  Since the accident I've gained 25lbs which is a lot for anyone who hasn't ever had a kid.  So now I'm off to the navy soon and I really need to get back in shape.  When I started at CC (about two weeks ago, I was a whooping 163 (I'm 5'5).  Now I weigh in at 158 and am hoping to continue trimming.  My "magic weight-loss food" is popcorn (air-popped).  You can get a popper for like, $15 bucks and it's healthy.  There's also seasonings you can buy if you really need some flavor (careful w/ those though, the tend to be high in sodium).  My biggest weaknesses right now are time management and the fact that I work part-time from before lunch til after dinner at Dunkin Donuts/ Baskin-Robbins. Help! haha

Hi everyone,

I'm new to CC. I've done WW and SB. My weight has always yo-yo'd around +/- overweight for my height.   I was pretty successful last year with losing weight and getting fit, but then I went through some major life changes and I seem to have lost my exercise motivation again. Looking for that motivation again, and suggestions for healthy eating, and really just friendly support.  I work full-time at a university and I'm also a full-time (evening) grad student, but I'm trying to get back into exercising when I can, as I felt much stronger and happier when I was more fit.  It is hard to get motivated when it is so cold outside though!

Thanks!

Lived in philly my whole life working in KOP.

1. History with weight loss: In 2006 starting working out cardio strength training the works. Only lost 10lbs in 9 months.  I found out I have an under active thyroid which explained the low amount of weight loss.  2007 started a great but stressful job and I've put on about 20lbs.

2. History with Calorie Count:  Started it today.  I've been using it for about a month to count calories in my food journal

3. Reason for joining this group:  It would be nice to have someone to exercise  with or just have some folks to help with motivation

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm an accountant studying for the cpa exam.

Hi There!

My name is Aase (pronounced ACE-uh), and I'm a 20 year old Temple student. I've been relatively heavy my whole life, but the past few years (i.e. college life) have really taken a toll and I'm not in a good place right now. I've started working with the school's dietician and will be in a support group this semester as well. I tried Weight Watchers Online last year, but I stopped using it after a while. I just stumbled upon this page, and it's great! I already keep a handwritten food journal, but having this calorie calculation thing is awesome! I'll continue to use both, in combination with each other, since I can't get to a computer during the day sometimes.

I joined this group for quite a few reasons; for one, it's always easier to work on something when you've got support from people doing the same thing. Also, I'm relatively new to the city and only have like 2 friends, so I'm always on the prowl for more.

I'd love to have some sort of monthly walk in one of the parks or something, since I'm apt to be sedentary unless there are other people waiting on me to do something.

Anyway, I'm kind of crazy and random, but I love to have fun and be silly; a sense of humor gets me through! I'm hoping that I'll be getting a cat soon, since I'm finding the lack of a live, fluffy, interactive animal is grating me down. I'm a big music nerd, and kind of a nerd in general. I love to read and be online and learn as much as I possibly can. I also tend to say really inappropriate things, and I have a terribly crass sense of humor at times.

Now that I've written half a novel, I just want to put it out there that anyone who needs a friend and/or workout buddy, I'm up for both! I get really sick of being alone in the time between my boyfriend's days off, since he lives far away.

Hello all,

My name is Frank and I live in Reading, PA. I have been overweight my whole life (at least since high school). I have yo-yo'd often got down to 160 when I was 23 but have gained much since then.

I joined a wt loss challenge at work in Jan and have lost 10 lbs so far. I joined cc to have a way to keep track of food intake, wieght loss, etc. It is also good to hav a support system in place. I notice I am the only person registered here from Berks County. If there is anyone reading this from anywhere in Berks let me know it's always good to know people in my area are trying to get healthy also.

My first goal is 30 lbs loss. I know i can do It and am really going to do it. Always glad to see so many people working so hard to improve their lives.

Thanks for being there, Frank.

Hi

I am Lisa.  I have 3 teenage daughters (17,15, 13), 2 big dogs, and a husband (battling depression).  I've been battling my weight my whole life.  Was obese as a child, but lost weight in adolescence to become a "normal" person.  Since then I've gone up and down.  I reached my highest weight as an adult this past December.

Since then, I've lost 18 pounds, and need to lose about 18 more.  I work out 5 times a week on the treadmill, for 70 minutes (running 50 minutes, and walking 20).  My biggest obsticles are my emotional eating, drama, and boredom.

I've just recently fallen off the "wagon" for about 4 days after my husband entered a partial hospital program for depression.  I'm really down, and need support.  My life is no longer my own.  Who will take care of me?  HELP

Welcome Lisa!  Congrats on already loosing those 18 pounds and your great workout routine!  Sorry to hear about your husband.  We are here for you.  We also have a daily thread that you can write in that other members get involved in.

Best of everything and talk to you soon!

Hello, my name is Nancy. I am 30 years old and mother of two (2 1/2 yr old and 7 month old). I live in Chester County

Welcome! We would love get to know you, so please tell us a little bit about yourself. You can choose any format you'd like, but most of us here share some or all of the following details:

1. History with weight loss: I have always had issues with weight. When I was younger I was overweight and went on weight watchers, I became obsessed with counting calories and so much so that I became bulimic and would not eat more than 600 calories a day (except during the binge) so I lost 117 lbs. In college I saw a counselor and just stopped going one day and since then (10 years) have gone from 124 lbs to 291 lbs. I did weight watchers after my baby was born in july and lost a bit of weight but I have gained 30 lbs since October. I am now on blood pressure meds, & cholesterol meds. I really need to lose weight for my health and for myself and I do not want to be the fat mom that the kids are embarrassed by.
2. History with Calorie Count: just joined today
3. Reason for joining this group: see above
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am married, and have been for 5 1/2 years. I have to children a 2 1/2 yr old and 7 month old. I work for the state. I am trying to find hobbies to keep my mind off eating. My current weight is 291 lbs. My goal weight is 165 lbs.

Welcome to the group Nancy! This is a great group.  We offer lotts of support.  Also, we weight in on Fridays.  Keeps us honest! :)  Feel free to write in the daily thread forum as well.  We are here you for!

Hi folks ---

I'm new to the site, and to dieting.

I'm a 41 year old guy (a short, bald guy with glasses, but none of those things have ever bothered me), happily married to a great gal (who has been battling the weight fight as long as I've known her) for 13 years, and we have 3 kids, 7, 5, and 3.  We live in North Wales, out by Lansdale, in the land of station wagons and Minivans.  I work in Plymouth Meeting.

I'm at 191 now after topping out at about 207.  According to the calculator here, my goal weight is 143.  <shudder>  Before I joined I was thinking 154, which was the weight I was when I met my wife 15 years ago.

Over the years my weight has ratcheted steadily up, first as I moved out of the city to the 'burbs (used to walk *everywhere*), then when I quit smoking... and then quit smoking a second time for good <grin>, then we had kids and I got progressively more busy with my career, so time for exercise went more and more to zero, not that I've ever enjoyed exercise or sports anyway.  Before the Holidays I hit my all-time high, a little over 200lbs, and about 10 or 20 pounds before that crossed the line into the 'obese' category.  <laughing>  I noticed before the holidays that I started getting *jowls*, of all things.  That *did* bother me.  Not to mention my manboobs, but only my wife sees those very much.  <laughing>

An opportune bout of flu that took out the rest of the family put me on the dieting path, finally.  I didn't get the flu, but thought I would, so stopped eating for a couple days to try to minimize the fireworks.  :)  I lost a pound or three, and decided to try to really control my eating.

Anyway, since the new year I've been seriously watching what I eat for really the first time.  As it is I'm lucky to get 6 hours of sleep most nights (kids, work, etc.) and I have little free time (nor desire) to work out or exercise, my dieting plan is pretty much as follows:

1)  Gave up Junk food - eating fruits & veggies for snacks now!

2)  Gave up late-night snacking (a bad habit)

3)  Gave up the 3-4 Cokes I drink a day

4)  Eating some sort of breakfast with some protein in it (new for me... I never used to eat breakfast)

5)  Getting a bit more exercise... I'm always taking the stairs up to my office on the 3rd floor of our building now, and am trying to do wii fit with the kids.

At this point I've lost about 15 pounds... but I'm finding that bad food choices over the weekends are wiping out each week's gains.

So, I'm on the site to actually try to measure the impact/damage of what I'm eating, and also trying to find ways to maximize my exercise.

I'll look forward to reading other folks' posts, and hopefully making a few friends.  I'm also hoping my new eating habits will make things easier for my wife (my crappy eating habits have always been a problem for her), and perhaps I can share other people's experiences with her... while being careful to not annoy her.  :)  Or hopefully anyone else on this board.

Cheers,

Ken

Hi everyone:) My name's Liz. I'm 25 years old, I'm new to this whole scene but I thought I'd give it a go since I just stepped off the scale and realized I'm 5 lbs. heavier since the last time I stepped on it. I'm glad it wasn't 15 but I'm still bummed nonetheless. I'm no stranger to weight fluctuations, I've been up and down since I was 14... Interest in diet and exercise seem to come and go.. after I work really hard for a while and get close to reaching my goal, I get tired of it and go right back into emotional eating, eating out of boredom, drinking too much with friends, and bumming around the house. It's sort of an all or nothing/ self-destructive attitude and I'm trying to change that this time... I guess I should also add that I had been dieting and exercising for two months and was doing great with it until this month, my brother passed away. Life's crazy right now and to add a diet into it just seems so impossible. I know this is not a support group for grieving siblings, I was just curious if there were any recovering emotional eaters here who have any tips, that would be greatly appreciated...

history with weight loss- I covered that briefly above.. ups and downs. High being in the mid to high 170's, low being 135 (after 6 months of serious dieting and exercise.. that was just not healthy for me.) When I'm healthy and active after a while, my weight usually lands in the low 150's.

history with calorie count- none, no other dieting sites or blogging either.

reason for joining- support and motivation to get back into a routine. plus I'll be the maid of honor in my best friend's wedding on May 9th.. I don't have a lot of time.

some interesting details- I currently live in the suburbs with my dad and little brother but I spend most of my time in the city with my boyfriend. I've been with him for 4 months, he's a good guy. I used to do social work with Access Services... got burnt out after a year and a half but I'd love to get back into it someday. I'm currently waitressing at a nice restaurant, trying to make enough money to get my own place... Maybe I'm not that interesting but I'm a good person and I like making new friends.

Hi everyone.  My name is Will, and I am 30 yearsold.  I have never really been too overweight, but I recently reached a weight I was not overly comfortable with.  I am 5 foot 8, and currently weigh 177 pounds.  My goal weight is 165 pounds, which is what I weighed in college.  According to the site, that will hopefully happen around the end of May.  I joined Calorie Count yesterday and am really enjoying all of its features.  I have a set calorie amount of 2000 per day, and burn about 2800 calories per day.  I about hit my mark yesterday (2008 calories), and close to it again today.  I wish everyone luck in reaching their goals!  Feel free to add me as a friend on here, and we can be support buddies! Cool

Welcome everyone!  Hope to see you on the post for Weight In Fridays!

Hi my name is Dorothy, I just joined calorie count last week but I have been trying to loose weight for several weeks... years... decades! lol  This seems to be exactly what I need... accountability and support!  My most recent problems is I am down to 1200 calories a day and don't seem to be loosing anything.  I think it might be salt and lack of water so I am trying to hydrate all day today and I just started back at the gym two days ago.  I am getting frustrated and sometimes I feel it will NEVER happen for me.  I have small children... I want to be healthy for them, to be able to run and play :)  My goal is to loose 50 pounds.

Interesting things about myself... hmmmm I am married, three small children, originally from Brooklyn, NJ but LOVE LOVE LOVE Philadelphia!!  Met my husband kayaking, work part time in Phila... full time mama!

I will post my weight on Friday.  I am looking forward to meeting you!

Welcome to the group Dorothy! Hopefully going back to the gym gym help move you along. I find it much harder to lose weight by just cutting calories. See you on Friday.
