Your comments enrich my stamina--a long journey starts with a few steps, how do you eat a 20 lb turkey...one bite at a time. If we want the habit of eating less exercising more to become a life style we have to start incorporating the changes we're making into our activities of daily living.
Two years ago April 1, 2007 I quit smoking after 45 yrs. of 'puffing away', to do it I started swimming with a swim team six months earlier knowing I couldn't advance swimming and smoke too. Today swimming is a critical part of my life as well as other core strengthening activities, Pilates, weight training. But, somehow my body bloomed and in the course of the two years I've gained 30 lbs. Despite the fact that at least 10 lbs has to be muscle, I'm horrified this could have so quickly happened. I've attempted several times to diet without success-- but now I feel I have to make this attempt work and here I am day 10 of having used this Caloriecount.about.com and feel thrilled that I have lost 2.5lbs. I'm finding ways to incorporate eating right into the rhythm of my day making food choices early in the day shopping at different stores finding good choices and buys instead of waiting to come home from swimming so hungry I stop at a restaurant or near by grocery store and make foolish choices. I'm carrying my high protein bar or shake along with my exercise gear and consuming a portion with in 30 minutes of vigorous workouts. I have to believe this is going to work slow and steady. Staving off hunger and thinking I'm starving when in fact I'm just terribly bored are my biggest problems. I've finally gotten into the habit of forcing myself to drink plain water every time I can get it down. I'm NOT hating drinking water as much as I did. Today is tough Saturday with nothing to do and no body around.
Hey guys! I've been on calorie count since the 7th, but I just found this group. I wanted to join this group because I was hoping to find people who live in my area who have a healthier lifestyle than some of my friends/family to be a more positive influence. So far, in the 10 days I've been CC'ing, I have lost 8.5 lbs! I started out at 161 and my 1st goal is to be at 145 by June 2 and then at 135 by the end of July.
Ok, so I grew up fairly chubby, then was considered "thick" in HS. I thinned out after graduating, only to become pregnant shortly after and gain some of it back. Luckily, I was able to lose the baby fat in a reasonable amount of time. I have been healthy and happy for the last 4/5 yrs, up until recently. I moved back home to Houston to be with family and in 5 months I packed on a good 15-20 lbs without even noticing. I partially blame the evil scale that is sooo inaccurate (long story). So hear I am fighting to fit back into last summers clothes. I got rid of all my bigger clothes because I swore up n down I would never need them again. And look at me now...in sweat pants.
So, I'm at a point in my life where I don't know what to do with myself. I had surgery a few weeks ago, and my job fired me for the extra time I had to miss. I was waitressing at the time. Now I'm on a job hunt, which isn't going as well aS I had hoped, but I'm trying to stay positive. I have a son who's almost 4. He keeps me very busy, as does my boyfriend. But he's naturally thin, so he doesn't get dieting because he's constantly trying to gain weight. I t's hard to lose weight with someone ALWAYS eating (really delicious foods too) and wanting fast food. That's why this site is so good for me.
I have always been thin until 4 or 5 years ago when I started taking bipolar medicine. I am trying to lose weight without losing health benefits. I thought maybe joining this group would help. I am 49 years old and have 31 and 20 year old daughters and 3 wonderful grandsons.
Hi my name is Kristina I live in the houston area, I have never been really thin I have alway been "big boned" But stayed around 160 to 175 I recently found out that a big reason I am now at 256 ifs because of a thyroid problem. I am taking medication and dieting like my doctor wants and trying to excercise as well. I started my meds a little over two weeks ago and mixed with diet and excercise I have went from 256 to 248! YaY! I have two daughters ages 6 and 5 and I want to get healthy and start making healthier choices for myself and for my family. I have been on Calorie counter for a few days now, and so far I love it! I hope to get to my goal weight of 145 by next summer. and hopefully to 170 by christmas. I have been eating 1200 calories and trying to excercise 4 days a week at least. I would really love any tips or suggestions you have.

Hi!
1. History with weight loss: I've done about everything thats out there. The longest I kept the weight off was 5 years. I now weight more than I ever have
2. History with Calorie Count: I found the site while looking for information about calorie counting. The first time I did any kind of calorie counting was the very first diet I ever tried. I never did it again because I could never understand the complete picture of proper food choices.
3. Reason for joining this group: Everything you need to know is right here. I love the site with all the stories and advice from others in my shoes.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I'm 5'3" and weight 230. I will be celebrating my 40th anniversary on June 28. I love to travel and just started a new job with the airlines (after retiring from one).
1. History with weight loss: Yo-Yo but til 5 years ago I never went over 150 lbs
2. History with Calorie Count: I used to rarely eat but I did count. Now I just get so hungry I can hardly stand it. ( Menapause?)
3. Reason for joining this group: I am fat. My stomach is so round that I have a hard time breathing, tieing my shoes it is taking me a long time just to get back in shape to exercise on a regular basis. (haha I used to bodybuild and run...lol) no one would ever believe I used to run 4-6 miles a day.... Just as far back as 2002
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Well my jobs used to be in doc ctrl in the oil & gas & chem.
I also have been a catastrophe worker on and off since 2000. My son is grown and working in central Texas. My dog went deaf and blind and no longer able to get in and out of my 5th whl so he is in a retirement home in Lufkin.
My interests used to be to go trail running. I can hardly hike 4 miles without just about dieing... I am doing it thou.
As of June 13, 2009 I am a non smoker and drinker.
1. History with weight loss: Well up until 33yrs I was in great shape, didn't need to work out , ate whatever and at 5'2" I was always 99-110lbs. Then I met my fiance, left my executive job, started working from home and taking care of my stepson who was 8 at the time. Now four years later I was at 141! About 6 months ago I started the "diet they don't want you to know about" which has worked well and I am down to 129lbs. My ideal weight is 110 and I cannot seem to get there.
2. History with Calorie Count: I signed up for the food and activity logs. The miracle diet has a strict food regimen and daily activity so it helps tremendously. Plus having others to chat about issues is great!
3. Reason for joining this group: I really feel the less weight you have to lose the harder it is... these last 19 lbs refuse to go away!
4. I work from home as an IT consultant, have a 13 year old, two cats, one lab and a saltwater fish tank.
Hi everyone! Happy to be here! :) Here's a little introduction.
I've never taken the opportunity to be physically fit; my weight has gone up and down my entire life, but even at my smallest I was still considered overweight. The heaviest I’ve ever been was 200 and after that, the lightest I’ve ever been was 142 lbs. At the age of 28, with a 5’2” medium frame, right now I am 165lbs female trying to find a way to maintain a healthy weight.
I bumped into this website when I was surfing the web trying to find some sort solution to my overstuffed closet full of clothes that I am continually growing out of. It was a post by one of the members, blaynedrops, advising people what to do with the clothes that aren’t fitting anymore. That’s when I thought about how much nicer it is when clothes don’t fit you because they are too big for you, rather than small.
I live in the Spring Branch area. I figured that things are more easily achieved in larger numbers rather than on your own.
I’m a student in UH working on getting a bachelors degree in Business Administration. I love music. I love to dance. I like a have a fun. I’m easy-going & content with good company.
Take care all!
Wishing everyone the best of luck!
1. History with weight loss: Up and down since age 12. The was 145 about 12 years ago. Started graduate school and maintaining weight was the least important thing. I am at a point where I am ready to do something about the weight I have gained.
2. History with Calorie Count: First time using this. I like the idea of counting calories.
3. Reason for joining this group: I recently moved to Houston so I am new in town. I think that support systems are important when working on a goal.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I do research on obesity and sleep, so you would think that I would know betterr....I have a beta fish named Oscar.

1. I have pretty much always gone up and down with my weight. I am 30 years old now and its getting harder to keep it off. I have lost 24 lbs so far and then I discovered Calorie Count. It has really helped keep me motivated so hopefully I can reach my goals!
2. This is my first time to use Calorie Count.
3. I am from Houston. Its good to have people from your hometown going thru the same thing.
4. I am a legal secretary. I am married and have 2 chihuahuas named Bella and Laci!!
Hi from Wharton, 46 yr. old w f looking for a local group. I'm new...again. Started a couple years ago, fell off, and now am back up. Need to lose 30-40 pounds.
Hi everyone,
I'm up in the Tomball area, so I guess Houston and surrounding area is appropriate :)
Here's a little history on me. I quit smoking 5 years ago, after having smoked for over 40 yrs. I didn't *think* I was comforting myself with food, but I must have been because eventually I got on the scale and was 188.
At that point, I started on Nutrisystem and over the course of 8 months, lost 50 pounds. I was very proud that I was able to keep the weight off without much difficulty for 3 yrs.
It's only since I've been remarried that, over the last year, 20 of those pounds have snuck back on.
I'm trying to be good, but it's not so easy when I'm not the only person in the house. My husband is supportive though, so hopefully I'll be able to get back down to a decent weight.
Being 50-something and post menopause seems to be taking its toll too.
I can't believe I only just discovered Caloriecount.about.com, since I used to run the horses.about.com site back when About.com started up, in 1997!
I'm thrilled to find these tools and support community all in one place. Other sites have calorie trackers but no community, or community and no tools, so having everything in one place is great!
1. History with weight loss: I was 6' 125-130 lbs from age 18 until 30. Even after having 4 children I didn't get above the 130 mark. In 1997 I got on the scale and found that I weighed 180lbs! Nobody, including myself, could believe it! I didn't LOOK like I weighed that much.
Until 2005 I was 6' tall. I had 3 spinal surgeries that ended up reducing my height to 5'10. I did the Adkins diet in 1998 and lost 40 lbs. I kept it off until my first spinal surgery when I put most of it back on again.
In 2008 I weighed 185, I lost 25 lbs no problem and kept it off until my final spinal surgery in November. I went to my Dr. in February 2009 and weighed 198lbs. She told me I had to lose weight as it was affecting my blood pressure. I lost 18lbs and have been hovering between 180-185. I can't seem to get past that threshold.
2. History with Calorie Count: Just joined
3. Reason for joining this group: I have never counted calories. It has always been as easy for me to lose as it is to gain, and I never thought it necessary, but I think that maybe my body has finally changed enough Pre-menopausal or whatever that what I used to do is just not working, so let's try calorie counting!
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: Born in Iowa, I have lived in 7 states, currently residing in Texas. I have four grown children, two who are married, two in the Navy. My husband is a pilot, and I am an accountant. Because of the spinal surgeries I have limited exercise abilities but I can walk for MILES! I take the stairs at work as often as I can. I love Sushi and gardening.
Hello!
I just joined CC and I hope it helps allievate some of the stress that comes with keeping track with consumption and burnage. Here it goes.
1. History with weight loss: Since about 2nd grade, I have always been kind of overweight. In 7th grade I was 5 ft 4 150 pounds. My parents never let me be in sports or activities when I was younger so I assume that I never really had a good example for an active lifestyle. The first time I lost weight I was about 16 years old. But I lost it not by excercise, but because of my severe drug problem. In 3 months I lost 23 pounds. I gained it back pretty quick when I slowed down on the dope. I am 21 years old now (by the way I have been clean for 2 1/2 years). The only other time since them I have really lost weight was about 2 years ago I lost 14 pounds, got down to 140, from hardcore diet and exercise. But gained it all back plus some when I started a fulltime job. Which obviously makes it harder to maintain extensive workout and diet. Which brings me to now, I have recently decided to redevote myself to a healthy lifestyle. I have realized that I need to workout and eat well for the rest of my life if I want to stay in shape so.... hope I can stay in the game.
2. History with Calorie Count: Just joined found out while I was googling some workout techniques.
3. Reason for joining group: I live in the Houston area
4. Interesting details about myself:
I have stated some details already above, but what else...
I work as a photographer, which can generally cause you to be somewhat active at work except for when it is slow, when it's slow ITS SLOOOW. I have no kids and have a small family. I am in school right now I am going to get my bachelors in social work. If I decide to get a masters it will be in therapy of some sort. That's a long time to be in school so we will see what happens. The only pet I have right now is a ferret. He is getting old too
!!
Anyways, thats all I have to say right now. Any advice is nice. But I do have common sense.
-Stacey
Hi ya'll...
1. History with weight loss: Well my name is Henry. I got to this site cuz i wanted to keep track of my weight, but as diference of most people, i been always struggling to gain weight, so much, that i was considered mildly underweight until a few weeks ago. Since I been a teenager i weighted around 130 and 135 lbs, not good if you are 6'01, i didnt look healty at all. Recently, due to some bad event in my life i loose more weight, where i went down from 135 to 115 due to stress. I was devastaded because, and again, unlike most people, i'm a hard gainer, meaning that I struggle to gain one single pound. Decided to gain more, weight and forcing myself to eat, i joined a gym back in September. So far i gain 9.8 pounds setting my weight at 180 lbs, for some of you that would be like "
that's too much!!!", but for me that would be my ideal weight, and i'm lifting weights meaning that all that i had gain so far, is being converted in muscle.
2. History with CC: None, i just joined looking for tips and way to track my weight, googling. :) Glad i did.
3. Reason for joining group: I live in the Houston area
4. Interesting details about myself: Recently joined the uncommon job of being a full time single (actually separated) parent of two beautiful girls. Sadly i'm unemployed, however my family and friend are helping us out (even with the gym. love my family)
Hi Yall,
My name is Big John & I'm from Kingwood, Texas.
Having been through the ups and downs for over 40 years, I'm now on a quest to lose over 100 lbs to feel better, be more healthy and happy.
I sold my company last year and retired at the end of 2008 - This seemed like a good time to take on the challenge of weight loss, but after a year of research about gastric bypass surgery, do want to lose the weight without going under the knife. My wife retires in January & we want to be ready to see the World.
For the past month I have been in a weight loss program, with a current loss of 36 lbs after 40 days. It does seem to be fairly rapid, but I am keeping up on my nutrients, vitamins, protein, carbs, fats, etc. Drink 80 oz. of water a day, fix most of my own meals from natural food. In fact, Kroger wrote to me to try to intice me to come back there with my wallet - They included coupons, even one for $10 off if I just spent $50 on anything. Guess the people at farmers' market must have ratted me out :-) The coupons for processed food were thrown out, but I do eat good stuff, like cod, salmon, chicken breast, skim milk, brocolli, asparagus, new balance margarine. Morton Lite & Mrs. Dash have taken the place of Lawry, Lemon pepper and stuff with MSG.
On my way, with a long way to go - I'm Happy, my wife is Happy (except she misses some of my previous cooking), my trainer is Happy, Mrs. Dash is Happy
