Welcome to the Group
1. History with weight loss:
2. History with Calorie Count:
3. Reason for joining this group:
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hi, I just joined the group. I gain and lose weight easily and go up and down a lot. Though in the last few years it has been more up. Due to some injuries and sore knees, and maybe some lack of interest, I don't excercise as much as I used to. I teach in the peninsula and have pet fish. Good luck to everyone in reaching your target weights.
hi lophat, i'm dls151. reside in san ramon. i too just started. i hadn't joined any forums yet, this is my first foray into that side of this "CC" site; i'd been trying to navigate thru the facilities that the site offers. i'm still alittle confused on one's "home page", and that calorie counter business. the site itself has been great since i became a member a couple days ago for indicating the calories , and breakdown thereof of the food i eat, but i was working on the exercise side of the site, and i'm not with it yet. i don't get it's correlation to your progress; or, does that site even monitor your progress, and add suggestions, remarks as you move along thru the nutritional & exercise phase of your weight /life style management.
i'm in this for the LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG haul; i started (actually restarted from 10 years ago) in April, weighing 357#. Last Monday (my weigh day at the gym), i came in at 315. so i'm making significant progress. i have a very detailed exercise routine, changing every 2 months so that 1, i don't get bored with the workout, and 2, i don't neglect the myriad of muscle groups that we've been blessed with, and then all too easily dismiss them in a sedentary lifestyle. But the "CC" site .............so far, doesn't seem so user friendly on this account. I have learned i can put certain routines in, especially say the eliptical & bike, which willl count my calories, but i don't have a way to accurately monitor total calorie burn from my 2 mo regime right now; which is CT (Circuit Training). I'm doing about 4 sets of 4 stations in about 30 minutes, but i can't calculate a calorie burn at the gym, so i don't know what to put in. then i have another phase at the gym where i do my crunches, some other cardio stuff, etc; none of which has a measurement tool for calories burned. so i'm still playing with that.
i am in process of creating a detailed food diary; but i plan to use this site for that as well , and if i see that the site can adjust the calorie intake vs. calorie burn , and say show a successful day/week, then i'll be jazzed about that.
my final goal weight is 180, so i have another 135 to go . i'm in this for the long long long haul!
if anyone wants to say hi, and share alittle bit, that'd be great. my next post will include some personal data about myself........but i think the above is long enough at this point.
good evening to everyone, and go in health.

Hi dls!! I work for a local credit union and I will be out in San Ramon a ton soon (we just expanded a new branch out there). Isn't this awesome?? I was hoping to meet other bay-area ccers... especially since I am like addicted to this site... it has helped me tremendously, and I hope it will do the same for you!! G'luck with the 135 goal... it's steep but you can get there! If you ever need a workout partner or help with dieting, I'm right across the bay! :) Give me a hollar! :)
Hello everyone. I posted on one of the other threads here but thought I would also post one here as well. I never had a weight problem until about 10 years ago when I noticed I was carrying a few extra pounds. Took those off fairly easily, but he last four years have been torture. I gain weight by just lookiing at food. I am now 199, my starting weight was 208, far heavier than I have ever been!.
I don't like the way I look, or the way I feel. Exercising is very difficult for me because of some shoulder (both) and neck problems, as well as back and hip (right) problems. I do what I can when I am having a good day. My husband is helping me...he does the majority of the cooking so I eliminate the tasting of the food when I cook. It is far slowe this time around but I am determined to LOOSE!
I am north of SF...and no one else seems to be close by so I feel quite alone up here...don't know a soul!
Anyway, best of luck to everyone ....here's hoping we all meet our goals!
Hi Catiecupcake,
Good luck to you!
I can tell you that no matter how slowly it goes at times, persistence and consistency do pay off.

I'm a 46 year young women that lives in Marin. Being single in a primarily "family" area, it's hard getting out and being active with others. I'm back on track (as of this morning)...LOL...but I'm committed to being healthy.
I'm 26 years old, grew up in Marin but now live in the east bay, was a major swimmer/water polo player my whole life until I just got burned out. I'm a teacher with a sedentary lifestyle. I just looked in the mirror over the holidays and was shocked by what I saw. I didn't recognize my body since I was used to always being in shape from swimming. I just joined the gym and started counting calories for the first time in my life. This website is very helpful, and reading other people's stories makes me realize I am not alone. My family are all great cooks so I grew up eating rich delicious foods, and myself love to cook. Needless to say food is my vice, especially my sweet tooth! Hopefully with a new diet and exercise I can reach my goal of 135. Any low cal sweet treat suggestions?
Hi everyone, I am female, 50 and would like to lose 40 lbs. this is my first time at this site. I would like to get some advice from someone who is over 50 and has successfully lost more than 40 lbs. thanks.
I'm a female and almost 50 (well ok I'm 46 - but I'm almost 47)...I had lost 62lbs....I think the most important thing is to let everyone you know that you are doing this!...I was so surprised at the support that I received from my family and friends. No more hiding the diet thing....I've put on about 17lbs again...Not too bad, but this is the point of return..I'm back at counting for the new year and it really keeps me on track..
Good luck to you and feel free to contact me anytime! (I just took up hula hooping) what a riot!

Hi everyone, my name is Lila. I hail from San Francisco and Berkeley originally and now live in Santa Cruz with my domestic partner and our 2 dogs. I usually visit the Bay Area a few times per week for various reasons. I go dancing often and love many kinds of venues, outdoor parties and bars and living rooms most frequently. I am a SJ Sharks and A's fan and eh, the Niners are alright.
Hope you are all looking forward to our week of rain!
Hello, I joined up a bit ago, but never introduced myself. My name is TigerBrooke, and I'm an artist, currently getting my masters at CCA. I live in the Mission district and I go for jogs around Crocker Park by Geniva and Moscow street. I also have a membership to 24 hour fitness and I frequent the one on 2nd and Folsom in the Financial district.
1. I don't usually feel the need to lose weight normally I just try to be healthy but I'm turning 30 and my BMI suddenly told me I was "OverWeight" and I decided I should look into eating "Proper Portions".
2. Just something I found wile surfing the web, and I thought hey why not?
3. I live in San Francisco and I'm an artist, it's hard to find people in the arts who are health concious.
4. I love to paint, sculpt and I work on stop motion movies. I have a cat and a dog. <3 <3 <3 TigerBrooke
-Any other ladies up for a jogging partner? I run about 10 min miles for about 4 miles.
Ha, I know what you mean, I was a runner in highschool, one day your in your early 20's looking fine and then all of the sudden you look in the mirror and your comming up on 30 and your body is right there with you. Good luck. <3 Tiger
Hello all!
I'm jenn, I recently moved to Berkeley although two years ago I lived in (gasp) the Tenderloin!
I used to work at the Starbucks across form that 24 fitness jung1equeen! And it was funny because their employees were some of our best customers!
Let's see, I gained the freshman 20 and am slowly losing it plus a little more. I have been on Calorie count for a couple of years but am new to the group thing.
I am studying Geography, making art & reading most of the time. I enjoy a good walk & a pot of tea.
I will throw in a little introduction, myself. . .
My name is Edward and my family and I just moved to Concord. We have friends here, and they are letting us stay with them (thank God, because netither of us can find work. . . ).
I grew up in Utah, and have spent the greater part of my life working with at-risk youth, primarily in residential settings, although I have taught both at the high school and post-secondary levels. My wife was in the Title and Escrow industry, and her company shut down in August, so we moved to work for a youth residential center in rural Idaho. That lasted about 5 months before we decided it was not the right place and way to raise our son (who turned 4 last November.)
Now, as to why I am on THIS site . . . In January 2007, I weighed close to 200 pounds, and my wife (Sarah) weighed [more than she does now.] ;) So, she joined Weight Watchers and I piggy backed with her as my support. In 4 months, we both lost nearly 30 pounds simply by eating smaller portions and eating healthier foods. However, here it is, 2 years later, with unemployment and economic woes in our lives and I have gained back some of the weight (and a lot of the fat) and I want to turn it around.
I joined Bally's "National Body Challenge" so I could get a free month at their gym (expires the end of Feb.), dug out all of our WW paraphernalia, and are digging in our heels. I already lost 3 pounds this last week. Hopefully, I'll remember about this group, and keep you all posted.
Ciao.
Hey everyone! So good to see bay area folk all working together ahh the love. Well my name is Aly and I just joined here about a week ago. Alot of my friends are somewhat apprehensive about me joining this thinking that I am taking things to a little of an extreme level( I have a history or obsessing over weight, and doing unhealthy things to achive goals.) So I am trying to use this as positive as I can. I have always been struggling with weight, since I was young. I just graduated from college(hard to lose weight when going to school) and now I am temping and trying to get back into working retail when I was running around all day. I live in Alameda but origionally from San Ramon. My boyfriend and I live together and we try to eat very healthy, but it is the nights out drinking with friends, and the meals out( O I love eating out!) that seem to keep me from losing any real weight. I would like to lose about 25lbs but first of all I want to drop a pants size by this summer. I have issues with weighing myself and i have been avoiding it for a while now, I think I might need to weigh myself very soon to be serious about this.. Anyways that is me and good luck to everyone!
Hi! I'm Melissa, a 35 year old bay area native. I am happy to see other bay area folks on here. I love roller coasters and hope to lose a bit of weight so I can ride all of them again. Looking for others who enjoy going to Great America, too.
1. History with weight loss: I seem to have a history more with weight gain. I started gaining weight in my 20's and while I have taken off 5-20 lbs here and there, it's always come back.
2. History with Calorie Count: A woman in a healthy lifestyle class that I am taking through my medical provider mentioned this site and I just joined today.
3. Reason for joining this group: I find that I get frustrated and bored after a while and would like support to keep myself upbeat and motivated to keep on the healthy path.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I just graduated with my BA in English. I do Human Resrouces by vocation, but I love to read and write. I work full time and eat most of my meals at my desk. I work out with a personal trainer once a week, but getting my eating to a healthy place is a real challenge.
I am a generally happy person. When it comes to weightloss, I have a lot of frustration. Most of my family is overweight, however, I am the heaviest. It's embarassing that I can't do the things that I used to do. My health is now being affected by my weight and I cannot delay making positive changes that will last a lifetime. Caring for me has to be number one because I want to remain the life of the party for many years to come.
I am moving soon to get out of a stressful living situation and I am hoping that it helps. However, moving is such a stressor for me, I am fighting to stay relaxed and away from the drive-thru!
Hello, my name is Frith and I live in Martinez. After not weighing myself for a couple of years and pretending that my jeans and other clothes were just shrinking in the wash I finally decided to come clean to myself! I have always been a very active person, but, at 47, I seem to have become a sloth. Plus I LOVE to eat, and don't like to deprive myself. So I am going to try and exercise daily and cut down on portion control and see where that gets me. I joined this site hoping for some mutual support, but not really sure where to go from here. So far all I have done is put in my weight and joined this group. My goal is to try and lose 15 lbs in the next few months. I hope I can get some kind of buddy on here that has the same type of goal. I want to get rid of my "jiggly bits" :-)
Good luck to everyone.
Frith
Hi, I'm Deanna from Union City (grew up in Vallejo, after college I lived in Daly City and Redwood City).
1. History with weight loss: SLOW MOVING YO-YO. I was fat between 6-12 years old (130lbs at 10), but lost the weight at 13 and kept it off through my sophomore year of college. I gained weight while on a 6-month internship. By Dec 2001, I lost the weight (down to about 125lbs) and kept it off through Jan 2004. I've gained it all and then some and have been trying to lose the weight ever since.
2. History with Calorie Count: I joined in late Feb 2009 after realizing that my google searches for calorie/nutritional information led me to Calorie Count quite often. I'm religious with entering food/activity during the week (yea, while at work), but neglect the site on the weekends.
3. Reason for joining this group: I wanted to join to learn from other locals struggling to lose a few pounts. I also figured I might meet new friends or at least gain support...and may be help someone else along the way.
I've got a desk job. I actually enjoy working out at the gym (I know, I'm weird). My problem is controlling my eating habits...especially when I'm with family. My boyfriend would also like to lose a little weight, so we're working on the healthy eating part together.
