4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hi all!! I go by AthenaH online. I am a 35 yo mom and nurse, working night shift in Bellevue. I live in renton. I have been overweight my whole life, andwas always just a 'big girl'. I've now become the 'fat girl' and I don't like it much. I had tried to figure out if there was a metabolic issue with my weight, had been worked up for thyroid disease and cushings, which all came back negative.
I recently got involved with hypnosis using cd's at home, and my caloric intake has gone from 1700 a day to between 900 and 1150 a day. I am also using guided meditation for exercise and well being. I have lost 19 pounds in 5 weeks. This is the first downward turn in about 2 1/2 years!! I am so excited!
My goal is 150 from my start weight of 252.
@Athenah30 - I'm seriously not trying to rain on your parade - a healthly weight is always an excellent goal. What concerns me is your caloric intake. Have you tried the wizard from this website? You can find it somewhere on your main page...
Anyway, I believe a healthy minimum for women is 1200 calories, otherwise your body will turn on starvation mode. I suggest hunting around this website to find your ideal level of calories. Every one is different, but 900 seems dangerously low.
I agree with spatch, athenah30. I know it is exciting to finally be getting some results, but 1150 and lower just is not sustainable. You fortunately do not currently have any health problems - you don't want to provoke some, do you?
Use the hypnosis cd - that's great (not while driving, right?). But please increase your calories to a minimum of 1200/day (every day). It is easy to tell yourself that you'll only do this drastic diet until you get to a certain weight, and then you'll work at maintaining it. But research supports what many of us have learned the hard way: Fast weight loss through low calorie intake leads to a ricochet - statistics say you will end up gaining MORE than your top weight now.
Take care - study what the winning losers here have learned, keep an open mind, be patient and kind to yourself. I know what it's like to be the Fat One - the desire for quick results is very tempting. And dangerous. And ultimately can lead you to one more failure, with the accompanying self-loathing.
Thank you so much for your concern. I was directed by my dr to consume 1100 calories per day. I'm doing as I was told. I work night shift, so the days that I have less than that are two days a week while my sleep schedule is switching over.
I'm 54 years old. My weight has been up and down all my life. I started CC Jan 1, 2009 at 170 lbs. My weight now is 157. I'd like to get down to 125lbs. I've been using a lot of recipes from the Biggest Loser cookbooks. I've been alternating each day between walk/jog and calistenics. I live in the Covington area. ![]()
Hi! I'm Jess and I just joined CC today. After gaining weight slowly over the past few years, I've finally realized that where I'm at today is unhealthy. Add this to the health concerns that run in my family and it's enough to make me want to get back in shape! I'm hoping that the site will add the motivation I need to combat the will power I don't always have!
Any tips on how to just-say-no to chocolate peanut butter pie? It's my weakness... ![]()
Hello! I am Shannon, and I have lived in Seattle for 22 of my almost 26 years; love it here!
I am getting married in 15 weeks and would love to look back at my wedding pictures and like the way that I look. I have always been a big girl; strong-boned and solid, withoug being terribly chubby, until recently. When I met my Fiance, we both started to get chubby, and now we are both trying to un-chub for the big day. My goal is to lose 25 lbs, by the wedding which is aggressive, but would be nice. I think 10-15 is more realistic.
I started using CC to calculate my calories for the day. in the a.m., I enter in enerything that I have to eat for the day, including dinner. That way I know how much wiggle room I have for an extra snack or a girl scout cookie that was just delivered to my office. It also helps when I get home and start dishing out dinner; because my cals. have already been counted, I know exactly how much to dish up to stay within my budget for the day.
Any suggestions for low-calorie dinners for people who don't like veggies (my Fiance)? He eats salads and some squash, but that's about it.
Oh, and MeganR; Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip granola bars by Quaker Chewy; 100 calories, sweet as a cookie!
Hello everyone!
My name is Megan and I am 29 years old. I just moved to WA from Huntington Beach, CA on Feb. ! I live in the Sequim/Port Angeles area and I absolutely love it here! I have a 2 year old and a 6 month old! After having the 2 kids (and gaining 60 pounds with each) I seem to be stuck at a weight of 165-175 and I want to get down to atleast 145. I just joined CC this week and look forward to meeting some people out here and getting/giving some good advice and encouragement. My husband and I love doing any activities that involve the kids as well so if anyone knows of some fun stuff to do please let me know!
My favorite these days is Orange Chicken salad. I think I made this one up but it is pretty low in calories and tastes awesome. I buy the frozen orange chicken from the store and bake it. Then toss the chicken in the orange sauce, put it over lettuce, and use soy sauce as the dressing. It's like lettuce wraps just not wrapped up! Let me know if you like it!
Hi,
I just joined calorie counter.
I moved to the east side from Southern Oregon 4 years ago. In Oregon, I was a part time group fitness instructor (5 classes a week) and only drove 5 miles a day. Now, I don't teach anymore, sit in the car for at least an hour a day, and I like to eat. I gained 30 pounds during my first 3 months here, I've only lost 1/2. I joined calorie counter at the recommendation of a friend just to make it a little easier to log in on the go, as opposed to using a paper journal.
About me: I'm turning 40 this year, I have two cats, live in North Kirkland, and I'm an office manger for a firm of scientists.
Hey :) I'm new new to CC.
I grew up in SE Alaska, moved to Oregon for a year after high school and found myself in Washington ever since. And I LOVE it. Even the rain... I grew up in Ketchikan so it's rain shmain to me! I've skipped around from Bellingham, Whidbey Island, and am now currently in Woodinville attending Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland for Dental Assisting (and ultimately Dental Hygiene). I got a late start on college so it's looking like I'll be in school until I'm approximately 92 and a half. I really enjoy it though.
SO down to the nitty gritty. In high school I was 120-130 lbs. After high school it just went up from there. I weighed 160 lbs the beginning of 2008. My wedding was Aug.23.2008 so I got down to 137ish the glorious day of =D Well now I'm at 142 and 130 is my goal weight. I'm 5'7 so 142 isn't bad but I like challenge.
I'm mother nature's #1 fan. I love to hike, mountain bike, camp, you name it. I've recently have been (for once in my life) enjoying RUNNING so much... well, for the most part ;) A friend of mine from back on Whidbey Island and I have made it a goal to run (possibly walk some truthfully) the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon this summer!! WOO! I'm pumped but with 20 credits this spring and 16 this summer.... It'll be tough. If anyone has some tips besides the ones involving me to get up at 4 in the morning to job I'd be very greatful! Glad to be here :)
Hi All!
My name is Emily and I've been on CC... hmm... I think I started sometime in 2006. I grew up in Iowa and moved to Tacoma last August. I am currently a substitute teacher but hopefully next year I will be full time as a high school social studies teacher. Oh! Other exciting news - I just got married 2 weeks ago!
Now for the not so fun stuff... I'm 5'2 and my current weight is in the upper 130's. My goal is to get down to 125. I have PCOS and my doctor told me that loosing some weight could really help me with some of the horrible problems I have.
As I said earlier, I'm very new to this area and so far most of the people I've met have been from school, so I'd love to get out there and see a little bit more of what the Seattle area has to offer!
Hey there everyone! I have no history with weight loss at all, it's never really been anything that interested me until I got busy, started eating less and noticed that I was losing weight without even really trying. It was a good feeling. I'm not very busy anymore, so I find I'm having to work harder to meet my goals.
I just joined CC today, not an hour ago! I didn't even know it existed until today.
I joined this group because I'm in the Seattle area and I'm fairly uncomfortable looking to my friends for support in this area. I guess I'm too prideful.
In addition to losing weight, I'm also trying to quit caffeine and biting my nails. So far so good on all accounts. Now if only I could force myself to exercise.
Hi. My name is Jennifer. I am 33, left handed, a virgo and a nose picker. I just went on a camping trip for Mothers day and when i looked at the pics, I almost died! I didn't even recognize the fatty I saw...so its time to quit all this fatty fatty business and get healthy. Or at least be able to keep some pics of me as I deleted most of the ones taken this weekend. Lord, I hope I can do this.
I have lived in north Seattle and attended the UW for a while. I have also lived in northern Washington. Right now I live on the East side of the moon, otherwise known as Eastern Washington. Anyone else live somewhere between Cle Elum and Spokane?? Am I all alone over here in the desert? I'd love to hear from folks who live East of the Cascades. Thanks.
hey poetnw, i just drove thru your neck of the woods yesterday. was outside of Spokane for about a week.
i know there is a Wenatche (so not in the cc spell check data base!) person around here someplace (not necessarily in this group, but cc in general) just don't remember who it is right now. . .
Awesome thunder storms out there on the east side of the moon last week! Lovely!
Hi i'm Christy, i've recently came back to CC and was roaming around the groups and was glad to find this one..... i've lived in seattle for about 19 years, and love the area. lets see information about me.... well i've struggled with weight all my life, i've been up and down, the last year and a half i've been dropping steadly and working with my trainer who i recently stopped going to, so even tho i've been with cc for awhile i didn't use the site much, it was too hard to track everything in two places. but now i'm back so i can keep tracking and talk to new people. I work for a bank doing legal work which requires alot of sitting at my computer. Thank god for the gym Lol. other things i like to do is go out listen to bands and go dancing which i try to do at least twice a month.... i also love to read, write, and watch movies.... and my biggest guilty pleasure is reality tv..
well i think that's it.... so again glad i found this group and i hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
I had just joined yesterday...and I have to admit, It's very convenient. I live in Graham, WA between Tacoma and South Hill area, and it's very cool that there's a group for people that live in or outside of Seattle!
Hi everyone I'm also new here at CC. My name is Tracie. My history with weight loss is not so great. I'm 5'5 and I have high blood pressure, I'm an ex-smoker now for 61/2 years and yes once I quit I put on more weight. I've lost some in the past but not enought to really count.
I've tried weight watchers by counting points and walking at least 3 miles a day. That helped a little but not much! I have two adult children 18 & 20 never really loss the extra weight from them. I carried my first one really low and my body never really recovered, I've always had heavy thighs (basically I was an hour glass shape growing up.) Heavy on top and bottom! I've always hated the way I've looked and been hurt by coments about it.
A girl friend told me about this place and how she had already lost 10 pounds,so I thought OK let's try it and see, what do I have to lose other than weight!
About me-OK, I'm 51 years young, just re-married, (my husband has six children so between the two of us we have 8 kids, ranging in the ages from 17-32 + 7 grandchildren),I love the ocean, country music, and taking long walks. I enjoy playing cards & board games, wine tasting, photography, stamping and getting together with friends & family.
I love food what can I say, I've never been one of those lucky people that could eat all they wanted to and never gain a pound, all I have to do is look at it and it's on me! I find that men normally have it easier than woman do when it come to weight loss, but unforuntately the standards don't change. Men still judge woman by their bodies remember the old saying: You can't judge a book by it's cover!" Well the same goes for woman. You shouldn't have to be a size 3 in life to get by.
Sorry I'll get off of my soapbox now! Yeah I have issues!! As I stated before I never liked the way I look, past, present . Hopefully the future will be better!
Thanks again for listening (reading) and I welcome any suggestions & help you can offer!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
