First Day w/ Calorie Count
Jul 22 2009 16:21 Edit | Delete
My name is Noelle, and I will be 36 years old in September. I have 5 children, the oldest is 18 and the youngest is 7. In late May of this year, I took a good look at myself in the mirror and nearly broke down. The person I was looking at was so overweight. I didn't even really realize how I had come to be so large. I was unhappy and wanted to do something about it. On that day I weighed in at 232 lbs, standing at only 5'03. That was the day I started changing my eating habits. Basically my goal was to limit my calorie intake and up my exercising. For the first two months, I limited my calorie intake, and did not exercise, but as of just this week, I have been walking everyday to and from work. It's 2.5 miles each way, totalling 5 miles a day, 4 days a week. It has been just over 2 months now since I started this diet plan and my current weight as of today is 211 lbs. I have lost a total of 21 lbs to date. My goal is to get to 150 lbs, but if I get down to 170 lbs, I think I will be very happy. I have never joined a weight loss support group before, but I am looking for all the support I can get this time:)
Hi! I have had a wild ride with my weight.....Currently I am at 187 and am looking forward to losing 27 pds. Recommended weight is 136 but knowing me and my build...I would look like I was strung out at 136! I lead a pretty active lifestyle..love playing softball, soccer and staying busy. I just moved back to Wa state from Cali & was having a great time reuniting with old friends. Regrettably, I broke my wrist and have managed to gain more than a few pounds while waiting to heal not to mention sitting on my bootay daily looking for a job. Its tough to be so inactive but I am looking forward to a new day!! Starting today!!
Hello,
I am not sure I am posting correctly. I didn't see a POST button so I used the REPLY button.
I have lived in WA (Eastside of Seatle) for 8 years now but I am actually getting ready to move to SoCal so I will have to switch groups I guess! :)
I have neve really struggled with my weight and have always been able to drop what I wanted by eliminating certain foods from my diet such as sweets, soda, cheese and other high fat foods. Now that I am older it seems to be harder to drop the weight.
I currently weigh 140 at 5'5''. The only time I have weight that much is when I was pregnant. I joined CC last year sometime but never really used all the tools. I am really tired of carrying this extra 20lbs around and have decided to work a program of some sort to drop it.
I have been ill recently (Salmonella Poisoning) and am restricted to a bland diet righ tnow which unfortunately consist of LOTS of carbs :( I also cannot exert too much energy so working out intensely isn't an option. I am however taking brisks walks everday just to keep my body moving.
Earlier this year I eliminated red meat and dairy from my diet. I try to stick to a vegetarian diet and usually eat fish or tofu.
I am self employed in the area of online marketing and web/graphic design.
Beginning 3rd week with calorie counter, I am feeling good today!, Just wighed in and I am down 17 lbs! On my way to my goal of 100lbs. Counting my calories has been such a big help.
update beginning 4th week down 21lbs, yay!
Hi All-
I'm Laurie and I just discovered this forum. I was happy to see Seattle had a forum. I've been on CC for about a month, so far I am down about 18lbs. I know that is a bit fast but in my own defense I completely changed my eating habits. Now I am a steady weight loss of about 2 lbs a week.
1. History with weight loss: The short version is weight loss has been a struggle with me for most of my life. My family has a long history of obesity. Along with yo-yo fad dieting.
2. History with Calorie Count: This is my first encounter with Calorie Count. So far it has been great and look forward to learning more about CC.
3. Reason for joining this group: Well beyond the obvious not much more I can add.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I moved to Seattle 6years ago from Spokane. I've lived in Washington State my entire life and can't imagine why anyone would want to live anywhere else.
In the last 3 months I've learned quite a bit about nutrition, health, and the affects on the body. Mostly due to a special I saw with Dr. Oz on the Oprah Show and I've been a fan of Dr. Oz ever since. Which is a bit of a guilty pleasure because although I'm sure Oprah is a great talk show host I wouldn't admit to watching her show to my friends. They would tease me to no end. I'm glad Dr. Oz is getting his own show so I won't have to hide being a fan any more. :)
Day 1/ CC
I've been counting my calories and exercising for about 2 months at least. I started out @294 and am now @ 277.
I have been dealing with the issue of being overweight since 1994. In 1999 I lost 100 lbs by doing the Richard Simmons Food Counter plan and excercise videos. The total weight loss took about a little over a year and gaining it back probably took about 6 to 8 months. There were attempts at losing and weight gains before and after that time. The next time I lost almost 100 lbs (85? I cant remember exactly but I went from a 3X to a medium) I did it in 2003. I followed the FDA daily reccomended allowance using the 2000 calorie system and excercised frequently. I regained that and more over a period of a little over a year. I've been doing this long enough to have tried my share of plans and supplements. I also feel like an expert on how the general non-fat public responds to me as both fat and fit. It's infuriating if you choose to take it personally. I can't believe the amount of times that people have chosen to take me seriously or deem me worthy of respect after I've shed the pounds. I guess it's a pretty effective filtering system for **** but still, effing morons!!
I have a beautiful family, loving husband and fabulously supportive friends. What I don't have in the group just listed is a peer in my same boat. I feel like getting advice and support from people who also know the struggles of having 100+ lbs. to lose is going to be lovely and much overdue. Being in my mid-thirties has it's own list of "issues". The karmic joke that is reaching your sexual peak 17 years after those of the opposite sex is maddening. My biological clock is pounding me over the head, and the realization that I too am mortal and need to take care of this here body if I want to stick around has settled and is here to stay. I feel like forging through with the journey of weight loss and health will help with all of my current issues. I want to be strong, healthy and sexy. I want to feel great about the fact that I chose this and worked my ass off for it, and totally deserve to be successful at it.
Looking forward to making new connections and being/finding support from others in the same or completely different boat!
I joined just a couple days ago. This is my first experience with CC. I've already lost about a pound in just three days, so I'm encouraged.
I've lived in the Seattle area for over 22 years. In 2000 my husband and I moved out of Seattle proper to the south end and now live in the Fairwood area. I have two daughters, aged 18 and 9 respectively.
My weight troubles began when I hit puberty and never developed regular cycles and started to slowly put on weight. By the time I was 18 I was 150 pounds with worsening symptoms of PCOS (at 5 ft 6). Five miscarriages later and about 50 more pounds (and six years of failed fertility treatments) they finally decided I officially had "PCOS". With proper treatment I was able to have my youngest daughter-but only after a significant weight loss (putting me at about 160).
Over the years the weight has crept back up in the absence of treatment. I've gone off and on the meds (metformin) because they are really hard to tolerate. I'd like to get my health back and my weight down again. So, I'm back on the meds (doc has me on a reduced dose to try to build tolerance) and making a serious effort to curb my intake (which makes the meds more tolerable as well). I have about 67 pounds to lose to get to the 137 it says I should weigh, but I'd be thrilled just to get to that 150 mark again.
Suggestions for how to overcome fatigue and incorporating exercise would be appreciated. I homeschool my youngest daughter and have a very full schedule of volunteer and education activities. Keeping my energy up while on the metformin and dieting is a challenge. If anyone has exprience in this area to share it would be most appreciated. :)
I joined a couple of weeks ago but Have not really used it much I am trying to be more active and am hoping to be honest about what I eat. I have always wanted to be that ideal weight for me and I have achieved at one time right before I had a baby and quit smoking so goes with out saying I gained a lot of weight and fear that I will not be able to loose it. I weigh myself today and the number was high higher than I want to admit 251 ugh is what I say but you know I admiting is the frist step and I am hoping that this weight will go down. I just recently got a job working at a toy store and i would love to just be able to play with my daughter soo bad I want my body to move like it use to some day I hope that it will
Hello everyone! Most folks call me Kathy. I'm using the screen name "abetterdayahead" because, even at 54 yrs, I still have hope. I joined CC on Oct. 31, 2009. This is my first day and my first post.
I weigh 220 lbs now, and I am 5' 8.25" (I've shrunk from almost 5' 9"). At one point in my life I was anorexic (I was 20)--I weighed 105 lbs. But until I was about 40ish, I weighed 135 lbs almost perpetually. I quit smoking in 1994 for 6 months and immediately gained 50 lbs. In the last 14 yrs I have gone from about 185lbs to 220lbs. In 2003 I weighed 210, and I lost about 50 lbs while one of my sons was in the hospital (that's when my profile picture was taken), but since then I have gained it all back and then some. I have 5 children (all grown), and 2 stepchildren (both grown), and my mother, 90, lives 2 blocks away.
My husband is a great cook. I do some of the cooking, but he is the head chef! I have been diagnosed with a type of anxiety disorder, and I often eat to find comfort and peace (besides, I love to eat, especially when my hubby cooks).
I joined cc because I need all the help and support I can get to lose weight. I want to stop being ruled by my "hunger" and learn to eat right for life--not relying some hokey diet fad that comes and goes, or a diet that relies on processed foods, denies me even small helpings of good food, or is too hard to maintain!!
I live about 90 miles north of Seattle and about 55 miles south of Vancouver, BC. I have a 10,000 sq/ft garden, and with help from my husband, I can or freeze as much of it as I have energy for (this is still a learning process). I like homemade/made from scratch foods--when I can, I make my own butter from cream from a local dairy, mayo, pasta, bread, etc. (this is also a learning process). I try to support local farmers by eating local foods and foods in season (with some exceptions). I have a cat. I'm learning to knit and ski. I own a bike that I haven't ridden in a year and a half, ice skates that I haven't used in a year, and a tread mill that I used yesterday for the first time in about a year. I just got over a fight with the swine flu that had me down for about 6 weeks.
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
Suspect lactose intolerance when abdominal cramps are a problem, especially after breakfast when milk products are consumed. Lactose... Read more
