And now just go ahead and make that first post!
Hi guys, my name is Crystal and I am from Bend, OR. Moved here almost 2 years ago from California. Its me, my husband and two kids, 6 and 3.
I started cc on June 24 at 164 lb and I am in my 8th week at 149. I wish there were actual people to meet here in Bend as I am doing my diet all alone and its getting to a breaking point. I would like to reach my first goal of 140 then 130 if at all possible.
My main goal is to be healthy and happy. I think what I really like about my self is the fact that a part of loosing weight means trying new activities to burn calories. For example, I tried knee boarding this summer and I learned that I love it, Im good at it and I got to use muscles I didn't know I had.
So.... today I just turned 24, work full time and my exercise consists of walking during my lunch, leg lifts under my desk at work, lifting books over my head .... any thing I can think of that wont interrupt my duties here. Otherwise, when I get home I am really tired so I stick to running up and down stairs, jumping jacks and more leg lifts.
I grew up in the suburbs - Hillsboro specifically. Lived there, in the same house, all my life until I went to college (in Seattle). I returned to the Tanasbourne area for 2 years after I graduated, and am now back in Seattle. BUT! Portland is still near & dear to me ;-)
Looking forward to the group!
Hi,
I live in Portland - West Hills specifically. I love Portland. I run in Forest Park - I love it there. I am a transplant from Boston via Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Palo Alto, CA, Sacramento, CA.. I live here with my husband and 2 children (1 is mine and the other one is his..)
Hi. My name is Terri. I live in McMinnville and have lived in this area most of my life. It is a beautiful small college town. I raised my kids in a tiny town a few miles out of McMinnville and moved here after they graduated. I grew up very skinny and was always running every where I went. I am now a grandma of 12 at 54 and over the last few years I've put on 50 pounds!!! I can't believe I let them creep up on me. I am trying to control my calories, but from what I am now reading its not just calorie count, you have to eat a combination of foods that burn each other. That is way to confusing for me. I don't want to have to look up each food I want to eat. I work part-time and am trying to walk as much as I can but most the time can't get motivated. I find I only leave the house when I have made a commitment to someone or work. I just purchased a treadmill but have not gotten on it yet. You would think having to lose 50 pounds would motivate me, but I still just sit around doing nothing.
Hi Everyone!
My name is Amy, I'm 38 years old and live in Milwaukie, Oregon! I have been a member of cc for just 3 weeks now.
I have a very high stress but sedentary job, and over the last couple years have gained quite a bit of weight. I have recently hired a personal trainer who I work with 3 days a week and have already lost 10 lbs! Yay!
My main goal for this is to be happy and healthy, and right now, I'm not really either. I am getting married in Mazatlan Mexico in March 2009 and this is definitely an incentive for me!
I am VERY lucky to have such an amazing and loving fiance and family/friends that support me in this venture!
I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully able to offer support and encouragement along OUR way to a healthier life!
We can do it!
Hello Everyone! My name is Amie, I am 29 and live in Salem Oregon.
I am so glad I found a group of Oregonians! This site is absolutely wonderful. I am a busy professional that is tied to a computer all too often and I just LOVE being able to track my intake on-line.
I am in Salem, but travel the state quite regularly for work. I am in Lake O almost every weekend. I am a single mom of a darling 7 year old boy. I am 5'10 and before I had my son I was 110lbs. I was far too skinny and quite unhealthy but still thought I was fat. I put on 70lbs with him and have kept that on for 7 years. I am pretty active and enjoy high energy sports BUT I eat terribly! 90% of my job is PR and Business Development which means I am eating at wonderful restaurants and drinking spectacular wine etc. It's really hard to resist, and I know that my current pattern is why I'm stuck at this weight.
A week ago I went to a formal benefit dinner, the photographer followed me around all night. I was NOT happy about this. When I saw the pictures online I was floored. I have several other black tie events coming up and I know I will not be truly confident at this weight. I am very motivated and would love to meet other people on here that will interact and help motivate.
Looking forward to conversing with you all :)
Happy Lifestyle Changing! We can do it!!!
Amie
I am 36, live in Junction City Oregon and work in Lebanon Oregon. I have been using cc for 1 1/2 years but am just now getting into the "community" feature. I am married with a 14 year old. My starting weight was 150, now 145, goal 136. I am a SLOW loser but still trying. When I take a break from tracking my intake and burn, I gain. I'm really interested in nutrition and fitness so it has been fun to use this site. There are so many amazing and inspiring stories here, thanks for sharing a lot of good advice and information.
Hi, my name is Heather, I've been a weight roller coaster through my life but usually within a 15 - 20 pound range. I have about 6 pounds to go to meet my goal and the rollercoaster has flattened out. I joined Calorie count because I started educating myself about my food choices and calories. I think Calorie Count is a great tool and has helped me also look at protien, vitamin and mineral intake, exercise and all of the components that go into healthy weight loss and maintaining a good healthy weight. I have been successfully withing 5 to 10 pounds from my goal for the past 6 months. I joined this group because my profile matched it, and my friend who recently joined CC was telling me about groups and the support and common threads that are found among members of the groups she joined. I enjoy cooking and I really like the recipe analyzer feature!
I have a sedentary office job but go to the gym before work and
try to be active on the weekends. I live alone but have a BF who is
very healthy and has been a good support. I have a cat named Marcus
and am also going back to school to pursue business administration.
I'm 34 and live close-in SE. I was born in NJ, grew up in Tampa, FL and moved to PDX from NYC about 9 years ago. I love Portland!

CC has been a savior i log everything meticulously and excersize everyday. Im glad to see some oregonians good luck!
Hi, I'm in NE PDX. I've lived in Portland since 2001 and love it. Moved here from Tampa.
1. History with weight loss: Started gaining Sr year in high school, reached peak of over 200lbs at 27 ish. Worked my way down to 145 but have been creeping up over the last 5 months to 160! Yikes! Related, I think, to birth control pills which I have since stopped.
2. History with Calorie Count: 175-->145-->160
3. Reason for joining this group: Why not?
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: 2 cats, one dog, one fabulous boyfriend!
Hi! I've lived in Portland for 6 years and I love it's character! Looking for job but, don't want to move.
1. Tired and stressed in college=145 pounds. I started dieting in May 2008 and after graduation was 135. I'm 5'7".
2. Started counting calories and signed up here in Aug. Now I'm 129. You wouldn't believe how long it took to go from 130>129!
3. I want to have some local support and maybe a buddy to have long walks with or take ballet class. Not much of a runner and can't afford gym.
4. I'm a single mom, 27, just graduated from PSU, looking for a job!!!
Hi! My name's Katie and I had a baby girl 5 months ago. I gained 25lbs during the pregnancy and have 10 left from that. I am looking to lose 25, I think. I don't really care about the numbers I just want to look good to myself! I just joined a baby boot camp class so hopefully I will get into shape too! I am really good at maintaining my weight and have never had to really restrict, so this will be interesting. I am hoping to just exercise to be able to eat what I want. I stumbled across this site am glad to see some other locals. I live in Beaverton with my husband and we moved from Seaside a couple years ago. We also have a yellow lab and 2 cats.
My name is Tammie and I am from Vancouver....I don't see anyone else here from my side of the river so let me know if it is OK that I join you all.
Stats: 40/f/5'5"/183 - Goal weight is 135
I would love to find some local support and friends with similar goals. I have been with CC for awhile now, but took the summer off. No excuses, just disappeared. I am a yo yo dieter...I know it is bad for me but lifestyle changes are hard. I have tendency to revert to old habits when my weight is down. Hopefully this group will help me stay on track.
Hello,
This is my first week on this site. So far lost 7 pounds, so far so good. Believe t or not this is my first diet. I am 5'4" and now 201 pounds. I have always been between 120 and 150 and have now been overweight for about 7 years. Love to hear what has worked for everyone!
Hello!
I have been doing Calorie Count for probably about a year and a half now. My friend recommended it and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I was always a chunky kid, but in high school I decided to run cross country. Not sure why, but I got really fit! Went to college, got fat...as the story usually goes. I am originally from Iowa but have always lived in Austin, TX and Las Vegas, NV. I love Portland! I love to eat..and there are some healthy choices here.
I started out at almost 220lbs. I am not 148lbs. I am psyched! I am healthy and my BMI index is where it should be. I eat healthy and in moderate portions. I also go to the gym once in while but my newest passion is running. I just finished my first race and was super proud of myself.
Advice I can give: if I can do it you can do it. I have learned so so so much about diet and health and tips and tricks to get healthy so dont hesitate to ask me.
Hiya Portland! I have just moved to Portland, and I also just joined Calorie Count on Thursday. I have never made my weight loss goal, ever. I have lost 20 lbs here and there, but I gain some or most back. This will be my very first time calorie counting, so I am glad there is a community I can talk to. I hope to meet fellow Portlanders who share my interest and might want to go for a jog or meet for some low fat, low sodium, low sugar, super healthy meals~! I am starting school in January and am currently looking for work. I have two amazingly cute Miniature Pinschers named Molokai and Maui, and yes I am Hawaiian! My fiance and I fully enjoy any mountain that we can board down, so if anybody wants to carpool!
My Name is Lacey and I am 25. Hoping to have kids in the next 5 years and do not want to stuggle with my weight before, during, or after a pregnancy.
Hi! I'm Emily in Portland. I'm 24, a registered nurse and have lived in this beautiful city all of my life. I'm here because a couple months ago I got my fasting cholesterol checked at a wellness fair at my work and it was a little high at 213. Initially this didn't scare me because I am young and was in denial. This all changed a couple months ago when I had a patient come in after having a stent placed in her heart following a heart attack. I see patients like this all the time, but she was 24- same age as me. It really scared me and made me realize I need to start taking better care of myself.
1. History with weight loss: I am 5'5'' and two years ago I weighed 125 and was active and ate right. I was up to 140 a couple weeks ago and right now I am at 135.
2. History with Calorie Count: I've been a member for a long time but for the most part have rarely stuck with it.
3. Reason for joining this group: I need some more motivation! I work nights and my friends and family aren't the best support system as they live sedentary lifestyles themselves.
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests: As mentioned before, I am a nurse and like my job for the most part. I have two furry kittens, one a Ragdoll named Shelby and a black kitten, Pauly Walnuts. My goal is to get my cholesterol below 200 and my weight back to the 125-130 range.
1. History with weight loss: More gain than lost. The best success I have had is with the atkins diet but I don't think is healthy eating so much fat plus I have a sweet tooth. I am 5'2" and 160lbs but don't feel like it.
2. History with Calorie Count:I have only been on here for a few months but only now really getting into it.
3. Reason for joining this group:I live in Vancouver and can get all the local support I can. I am married and my husband loves me the way I am but I don't but I don't hate myself and I don't feel like a hippo. But I am always surprised when I go buy clothes that my size is so big lol. I think I am tinnier than I am. But I am not healthy eating so much junk and not exercising and carrying around this extra weight so I have to stay on track. I just have to keep thinking of how much healthier and light I will feel without this extra weight.
4. Some interesting details about yourself,
such as
your job, your family, your pets and your interests:I am in banking but I am transitioning into the medical field right now I am a certified nursing assistant and plan to go further in which ever direction in the field I am pulled to. I have two cats one that is like me with more to love and her brother who is a mischief maker but just as adorable. As far as family I have no kids(only 21-22yrold) but I have siblings and a wonderful husband.
Hello Everyone,
Today is my first day with Calorie Counters. I am a 6'2" and weigh 348 lbs. I have been an athlete my whole life and have been for the most part overweight as well. I have gained and lost over 100 lbs. on three different occasions. I just love to eat.
I just had the biggest scare of my life when I thought I was having a heart attack right in front of my 10 year old daughter. It turned out to be a false alarm and I seem to be fairly healthy with the exception of being overweight. When I was being discharged from the hospital I saw my chart and the description began with Morbidly obese male... Now i have always known that i was over weight but never really thought of myself as obese. Partially due to the fact that I carry my weight well and I am naturally muscular. But after seeing the chart I knew that i had to do something and so did my family.
I am begining a biggest loser contest with a bunch of my freinds because I want to get back down to 225 lbs. It is a 6 week contest and I plan on losing between 40 and 50 lbs. during this time. I know that people say that you can't lose that much weight in that short of time in a healthy manner but I have done it in the past.
I had never seen the Biggest Lose on television until this last weekend when I got hooked on a marathon and watched an entire season in one day. I watched people lose over 100 lbs. in only 12 weeks so I know that it can be done.
I learned a long time ago that losing weight is an easy equation. Burn more calories every day than you consume and you will lose weight. the bigger the difference between consumption and burn the more weight you will lose. In the past i have always followed the rule of lose as much weight as it takes to be able to do strenuous exercises and then begin to build your muscle structure back up. I do not recommend this for everyone. I have been a professional athlete in the past and know my body very well.
Well that is my painful little (or Huge depending on how you look at it) story. I am hoping to get some new ideas and meet some great people on this site in the future. Good luck to all in there weight loss and life endeavours. Thanks
Hi, I'm Jenny. I live with my husband and 2 daughters in Vancouver (super close to the YMCA and just joined again after 10 years lol, yay!)
1. History with weight loss: I started trying to lose weight when I was almost 16. In one month I went from 180-150 pounds. Very unhealthy, I'm not sure if I knew it was at the time though. Maybe... I ate lettuce w/ tuna, chicken w/ broccoli and rarely a donut or something sweet. After that I got married and right before getting pregnant with my first I was 215 pounds. I had terrible morning sickness and ending up around 213 the day I went into labor. I was 190 pounds after. I did Weight Watchers and lost down to 170. Then did my stupid crazy eating and intense exercise and got down to 160. Last year I got up to 210 again and back down to 160. Then I got remarried, gained a bunch over the honeymoon/holidays and here I am back at 190 pounds, trying not to be depressed about it because I know I just have to LOSE it. Healthy way this time, which is hard but I'm really really trying and planning my meals and doing everything I can to stay on track this time for good.
2. History with Calorie Count:
I think I found it while searching around weightloss blogs and such online. I like to hear about others meeting their goals. I got my sis to join also. So I'm excited to have her support and I hope to support her as well.
3.Reason for joining this group:
It would be nice to talk with others in the area.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I love to swim, run and do elliptical. I got up to 2 miles running before and now I would pass out so that's a big goal for me :) 2 miles is nothing to some but to me it's huge.
I work as a nursing assistant for an agency so I go all over but mostly Providence area hospitals and I work weekends while my girls are at their dads house. I enjoy the work I do. I really like to help people and try to do little things to brighten their day.
I am married to a wonderful man who tries to make all my dreams come true. We've been together 2 years now and just got married a few months ago. He wants to lose weight also. He has a very bad back injury that limits him but he used to be very slim and in shape and is excited about joining me at YMCA as much as he is able. I have two super cute daughters, 3 & 5. They are going to benefit from my weightloss because I will be taking them to the Y pool a lot and I will have more energy without all this fat on me.
Last but not least, I have a dog. He is a Pom, black, brown and white ball of fluff. His name is Lance.
Wow, that was long lol :)
